If you enjoyed this series and your looking for another try The One Second After series. There’s three of them. They are also superb. They revolve around an EMP attack.

@Sallie May No, the One Second After series is authored by William Forstchen. In real life, he is former military, and currently a professor of history at Montreat College, in western North Carolina, which is also where the story line of his books are set. Different from this series, but absolutely as good. I highly recommend them.

@@jimbaumann6197 took me a while to get into the America Falls after reading the One Second series. I found the writers completely different, more "boys own" in style this one... I might have wanted a bit more character development so we know and can identify with the characters, but your other comment is spot on… ‘You like to write what you like to read, keeping it fast paced and simple.’ [paraphrased, sorry for the rough quote] Not that it helps much, but now that I know the writer benefits from the revenue, I hereby promise to watch the entire advertisements from this point forward. 15:32 what he just said about bullies is absolutely spot on. I was abused in the past and he got off on me stammering over my words, so scared of saying something wrong and setting him off again. Or worse, he would spit on or hit me. I didn’t leave at first but I changed how I interpreted and dealt with his tantrums towards me. I stopped talking. I stopped crying. I stopped shaking because at that point I was broken. So nothing mattered anyway; who cares if he hits me again? (Mindset at the time). I discovered that he actually didn’t bully me nearly as much anymore. Like I took his trigger away. I realized he was literally getting off on my misery. It wasn’t because he had a temper he couldn’t control like he told me. He wanted me to feel pain. So, when I realized that and how long he had manipulated me, I was able to leave. He was never going to stop.

I'd like to say I hate bully's...I believe they have a crucial role to play in our primary schools ..what a bully actually dose without knowing it helps the timid ,the cowardly, to come out of thire protective bubble. Eventually the bullied will reach a braking point and stand up to the bully the bullied will either use violence to stop his torment ,( I believe the best way ) because at that moment forward he or she knows they can stand tall they have the courage to overcome what is usually a horrific existence in school they will start to make true friends and actually start to participate in school social life ...on the other hand if they chose to use words they will always be bullied either by coworkers thire wife , husband or children ..I know violence is not to be tolerated in any way now ... I went to primary school is the late 70's 80's we fought each other all the time to worst punishment would be swats from the principal..and usually the combatants would become life long friends . Wether people like it or not violence will always be part of this world and I feel it is better to learn to deal with situations at an early agent quickly and decisively.. it is not actually if you win or loose that fight , it is wether or not you stood up you did what you had to true courage is to do something in the face of fear . Bullies will not torment a child that they know has the potential to lash out with equal violence ... That child will end up living a life of a 1000 deaths or will that child will discover that he / she is courageous and that child will try just about anything

It is a shame that good novel writers are not used to write TV and movie scripts. Things get ignored.......such as, gasoline sitting in cars eventually goes bad, and you can't siphon and use it any more. Car batteries just sitting there eventually lose their charge. Faucets stop giving you water when there isn't any more electricity. The greatest danger is fire, since once started impossible to put out, and will spread and level an entire city. Pretty difficult to find water that is actually safe to drink once sanitation plants are no longer running. Medicines such as antibiotics have expiration dates. Pretty hard to perform dentistry and surgery. Generators run on fuels you can't get any more. These things almost entirely glossed over in TV / movies. Without fertilizer based upon oil, you can't even get soil to produce enough to survive any more. Canned food does eventually go bad inside the can.

You're actually incorrect on a few things. Gas in a car tank will keep well for 6 months to a year. A battery in the right conditions will hold a charge for years. The faucet in most homes is gravity fed. Electricity is only needed to fill the water towers, when they are empty that is when you lose water. Filtering water while not "easy", is pretty straight forward. Survival food is good for 30 years. Some areas, near hydro electric damns for instance, would be pretty easy to get back to full operation. It's all about knowing how to survive, having the right mindset, and being lucky. Our ancestors traveled west on wagons into the unknown just two hundred years ago and they didn't just survive, they flourished!

I love how this story is written. The protagonist is very likable, relatable, and overall a cool person that is very easy to cheer for. I know that if I go further with this audiobook, there will be tears. A lot of tears. Entire waterfalls of tears. Still, the entire concept seems very silly to me. If China would admit to such an attack, their entire country (and North Korea, just to be sure) would be nuked into a wasteland of glass in a day; if not by the USA in retaliation, then by Putin as a preemptive strike. And if they wouldn't admit it, Putin would nuke them anyway the moment they invaded North America after the fall, because at this point it would be clear that they have something to do with the plague. ^-^'

The contrast between generations in this book is startling. How the oldest generation deals gracefully with death, while it's still deeply rattling to the youngest ones old enough to know what death is. The protagonist's begrudging will to carry on despite a shit hand dealt by life and an even shittier hand by fate, the way he trudges on if out of spite... Very angst ridden teen, if a little 90's. But each page in and of itself entices you to read the next. Americans are learning that even the spirit of vengeance we share, is subject to popular opinion.
