Have you had a quitting moment? Lost the love for the game? Is there real reasons that you should reconsider chasing the dragon that is the Jiu-jitsu Lifestyle? There are many things that may make you want to step away from the BJJ game but before you decide to quit you need to ask yourself some important questions:
    - INJURY: Why & How- Could it have been prevented?
    - LOSING: Expectations & getting wrecked every Roll?
    - NO LOVE: What is killing your enjoyment of the game?
    - NOT PROGRESSING: Are you actually stuck or is it perspective?
    - AGE & ACCUMULATION: What are you doing to deal with chronic Pain?
Before you walk away from one of the best things in your life just consider that taking a slightly different approach and perspective on what BJJ means to you and just how far you have come from where you started.

I feel like trying a new gym is a good first step if you are not enjoying training anymore, it can be as simple as the vibe at the gym is not for you anymore not the sport itself. Also I often find the most injured students are the ones that also injure other people the most, as a coach I look at peoples sparring intensity, style and personality and try to steer them in a direction of safer training based on progress not getting the tap at all costs. You also hit the nail on the head with warm ups and stretching. Some people can not touch their own toes etc and are at a higher risk for injury.

Exactly right. You don't want to be the injury machine.

You are right. I switched from gracie Barra to 10th planet and I'm having a blast. Initially I went to Gracie Barra and didn't quit because I wasn't enjoying myself but I got injured. 10th planet was closer to me as I lived in different place by the time my injury healed. Joined 10th planet and now realize that bjj is even more fun than I could ever imagine

The exhortation to subscribe had me checking. Yeah, already subscribed.
"You probably should" right out the gate made me laugh.
I could empathize with the questioner. That was me 15 months ago. I gradually lowered my expectations until they were subterranean. It's much easier to show up when you finally embrace that you can't prevail against anyone, and you'll always be a muggle, mesmerized by the magical world of BJJ.

There is definitely a time (at least for me) around the mid blue area, where jiujitsu was the hardest thing to deal with mentally and emotionally. Really felt like I was getting worse and hitting a wall for at least a month. What helped me through it was changing my mentality. When I go to the skatepark, I don't always seek to learn or strive after a trick. Sometimes I just go cuz I like going. Once I started thinking about jits like this I really started enjoying every session and stopped worrying about "winning". Shortly after that my game elevated and was promoted to purple. Sometimes you just gotta push forward and enjoy the mats.

I don’t care about if I stay on one belt until I’m finished, the pros outweigh the cons for me. I’ve lost weight, learnt disciple and life lessons from jitsu. I enjoy it whether people beat me or not. I have also accepted that it takes a long time to learn and progress.

I’m a 34 dad that started in a smaller all no gi Gracie gym in 2020 for hobby and got hurt 2 months in. Came back same thing a couple months later. Third time the second day back. All from knees and shoulders on ribs. The last time I figured bjj not for my fragile ass.
Then i decided before quitting to try other gyms. Maybe one that teaches fundamentals so I know something to do while rolling.
Tried a Gracie CTC school and love it. So many fundamentals I have no idea about after 4-5 months on the mat. From what I gather there’s two basic types of gyms, structured (ctc schools) and old school (learn the move of the day like everyone else). Find what works for you.

I'm 4 months in and definitely the worst practitioner in my class, but I'm strong and 230 so I can "survive" a little bit, it doesn't bother me at all, everyone used to suck, I always smile and say thank you. I also look forward to picking more up and not being the "new guy" any more

Great video. Starting at nearly 51 years old. Yes, I have prior martial art experience but not in the same arena. Also, as you stated in the video, I have learned skills that allowed me to compensate for injuries. But, as a beginner in BJJ, I can't do that. I'm so sore and can't do what I want necessarily. I'm leaning, it's hard, but it's fun

Bruh, I'm in the situation where people doesn't train as long as me and beat me at bjj mercilessly. Often I feel disheartened but I ask myself "Am I gonna be the next world bjj champion?, Am I gonna compete in ADCC?". Answering both honestly, I found myself not as stressed out. The pressure of training just dissapates and I could have fun training and not take myself so seriously. Of course sometimes I go hard but now it's not all the time stressed out.

I had to stop after 2 weeks of training... I have a fractured rib and a pulled lig in my knee. I didn't even know something was wrong until after class.. I have had to miss work and really can not afford to do that. I have full custody of my 12 yr old son and he has been training for 4-5 yrs. I started to have more in common with my son. I have 3 months paid in full but I am almost afraid of going back. I can't afford to get injured again.

Great thoughts on this! I did BJJ for four years through high school and then had to quit when I found out I was going to be a father. It took 12 years, but I found my way back to the mats. Everyone's journey is different, and you can always return. And it was surprisingly easy to get back into thanks to muscle memory, like riding a bike (except for the cardio part). I hope this viewer finds the path that's right for them.

I found changing gyms really helped.
Fould a gym around the corner from me in Leichardt syndey and it just works for my style and personality.
I was training at gracie barra, got my blue belt but i didnt really enjoy it. Changed to another gracie barra in sydney. Wasnt enjoying that
Turns out it was just how gracie barra runs things that i didnt enjoy.

Been training for 10 years. On and off. Lifetime blue belt lol. I have quit many times and always come back. Atm I really had to ask myself is this bjj thing stupid. I have a business and I’m a father. My business is very physical and I have to be injury free or no income is made. Every time I go jitz some sort of dumb injury happens and makes the next few days miserable. I also weight train 2-3 days a week. So at this stage of my life yes training jitz is not a good idea. Do I miss it? Meh sort of. Also the pressure of getting my purple is not there anymore. Which I find a big relief. If I want that HARD thing that challenges me. I lift heavier weight 👍🏼

Been doing grappling since the early days of Frank Shamrock. Had my ups/dpowns, best/worst shit moments, did quit to compete in boxing, back at BJJ, then quit for another full contact sport, back at BJJ over. Now, 50, my body cannot sustain the impact of stand up striking combat sports. And the compliment and honors I hear about my game in grappling is well worth more than any bjj colored belt.
Last week, I got the second best compliment to help me stay for the long haul. In 2021, one instructor said: I am among the most technical grappling students he has. This year, the instructor told me: I am a tough motherfucker to submit.
He couldn't submit me with his best chokes.
Been blue belt since 2005, but lot of nogi since 2006, and my bjj defensive skill are probably at purple if I get what my instructor told me. I now need
a purple/brown/black belt skill set level offense.
Guys will hate me, but that's the instructor told me last week: no more Mr. nice guy on the mat, need to use the real heavy shoulder of justice and treat every student like they no sissies.
My secret: my entire grappling game is about rolling while preventing injuries cause my whole body is injured here and there. I am now wearing those great knee pad (Anacondawear.com), work like wonders cause I don't feel any pain during and after BJJ classes.
So far, there is no quitting in me, wish me good look, at 50, 99% of the students I hang with are 20ish and 30ish.

You shouldn’t quit because you’re frustrated.
I’m a purple belt who’s been training for 10+ years. I’m 28 now. I’ve always been top dog. Here are the reasons I quit.
*time- I have a daughter now and a life lol. I’m growing a business. Growing in other areas of life. Jiu jitsu takes up a lot of time. Don’t be a black belt on the mats and a white belt at life.
Injuries- injuries are not worth it. Neck, back, knees…. There are better ways of keeping in shape that will keep you from needing expensive surgeries that will take a toll on you financially, mentally and physically.
    Infections- ring worm, staph infections
Cult environment- grown men celebrating a piece of tape…. I’ve been there. It’s a false sense of accomplishment. A piece of tape or a different color belt shouldn’t determine your value as a person.
Practical use of jiu jitsu- in a world full of knives and guns. Jiu jitsu should only be kept on the mats. In the modern world you should use your intellect to keep yourself from provocative situations and if you need to defend yourself and have no way out: use a 9mm. Try rear naked choking a crack head who’s biting chunks off your arms….
Hope this helps you make your decision.

I am 49 and a year in so I destroy every one. Lol. I kinda got that way when I didn’t want to continue. I would get smashed by everyone in the gym. I was the only white belt at the time. Really disappointing. Then one day . New people started to show up. When I started rolling with them, I realized that I had actually learned a lot. It’s sucks being at the bottom of the totem pole. But , you learn a lot from the upper belts with out even relishing it.

I have no idea who these guys are, sounds like theyre from austrailia or new zealand, but they seem cool as fuck. I'm a 41 yr old 2 stripe white belt, I'm too old and I suck, but if i wait until im 50 I know i'll regret it, I've learned you don't have to roll 100 all the time and its ok to tap early and often

What is with these backhanded extreme counterpoints, trying to secretly make people quit? What if you don't just get beat by the "ex college wrestlers", what if you lose to some generic young adults. Is it ok to quit then? Or what if you're not 40 but 55. What if you don't want to beat every single person, but you lose to a lot of people and guys who train less than you.
