I'm an American who has been in BJJ for only a few months now and I'm completely addicted. Your channel has been giving me so much useful information and with entertaining personalities at that. Thanks for the content, bros!
I'm a 41 year old purple belt. Had my first fairly problematic knee injury. A super strong and larger white belt torqued my knee inwards while in dela riva. Strained my mcl. Still not trained three weeks later. Fortunately, it only hurts from a certain angle, but for something dynamic like BJJ, I can't trust it will be stable at the moment. I'm always wary of fiery white belts, but caught caught off guard this time.
I am 35 years old, i have been doing bjj for about 4 months and i have already ended up with 3 broken ribs. A spastic kid jumped and landed with his knee right in my rib cage. It has been a miserable recovery but i cant wait to get back to training.
25:00 calf raises are great ESPECIALLY if you're on a plane or car ride or sitting around recovering from injury. It prevents blood clots. Anyone that's had surgery is familiar with the compression stockings and the machine the squeezes your calves? That's why.
I find elbow, shoulder, knee, ankle and hip injuries easier to tolerate training through the pain as opposed to ribs injury. This one is the worst without long term abstinence
I was getting savage pain in my forearms and I thought it was just from pulling guard, holding onto the gi etc, recently discovered it was actualy from getting my arms bend back towards my body, eg :someone has side control on me, I've worked on forearms flexibility since and the pain is gone after sparring, just mentioning it in case it helps someone else.
My ankle got cranked by crossing my legs while I had a guys back. Been 2 weeks and I'm getting pretty depressed to be honest. No leg workouts and no jiu jitsu
My arm was broken by a teammate attempting an Americana. I did tap, but now I'm off the mats for at least 3 months and it's gutting. I've only been training for 6 months and felt like I was just finding my way.
I’m brand new to BJJ at 48. Was suffering from tennis elbow for several months from lifting but started anyway. One month in tennis elbow is gone. Bit of a random point I know. Hoping to stay injury free. Love the content!
Thanks guys, Loved it. Anyone here has Nerve damage? I have ulner nerve compression at the elbow which has resulted in my hand atrophying and I lost most my grip strength. Anyone out there had something similar?
I'm 2 years 9 months in, the first "injury" was right away a blck belt choke me, I have a big Adam's apple, so something popped there and I couldn't talk normal for 2 weeks also hurt like a btch, but after that chokes never hurt again lol, I hurt my ribs, that hurt a lot 2 took me 2 months to heal, and now I had a grade 1 mcl tear happened with a black belt instructor, so not always is the white belts, sometimes if you don't know how to react properly to a higher belt you will get hurt. 😅
I have a bucket handle tear of my lateral (outside) meniscus, my recovery time before being able to twist and bend at the same time is 6 months post surgery, with at minimum 4 months of therapy. It sucks to not be able to do jiu jitsu, I can't find any serious content on such a severe tear and coming back to bjj. I would love to see a sports therapist explain this stuff with you guys if it could ever happen. Thanks for the content keep it coming!
I had my medical meniscus repaired and watched every video I could find to get back as soon as possible. Honestly for me I think I babied it a bit but I would say take your time and make sure its fully healed.
Hey guys! Recently joined BPFBJJ and am honestly super confused by the workout layout. I'm trying to do the mobility program and there are 2 warm ups and cool downs? Do I do both every time? Also, the active flexibility work and the warm up both have side lying rotations... I do the exercise twice in the same workout? Should I be doing it any differently?
Hey Deven, You complete warm up 1 on day 1 and warm up 2 on day 2. The reason they are structured like that so you have more variety. We encourage all our people to use the warm ups before bjj class and the cool down post class. As for the active flexibility work it can be completed on alternate days when you are not rolling. Hope that helps. - JT
everyone talks about fingers but my TOES are always getting destroyed. my two big toe knuckles are constantly slightly swollen and mild pain and moire severe when on the mat. eventually got used to it but its fcked. I have loooong toes tho maybe thats why
Question, I’m 38 but muscular and athletic. I lift at least 3 a week and do twice a week Yoga. Still I’m trying to prevent injury what is more injury prone Gi or No Gi ? And what are the most common injuries in each ? I do 2 to 3 sessions of Bjj a week minimum.
@@ryeann2567 1 year, I’m white belt 2 stripes. I feel way more comfortable in No Gi, I think in the Gi my natural athletic abilities and strength can be mitigated by others with lesser physical attributes. My way of thinking is, if I put as much work outside the matts working on my mobility, athleticism and cardio why not use it ? Besides I think the Gi hurts my neck more for all the people pulling with all their might trying to slow me down. In No Gi I get also smashed more easily by higher belts and white belts alike, while in No Gi I see only people purple belt and above can control me and submit me but the other lower belts is way harder for them to successfully submit me unlike in Gi, I also can defeat them better in No Gi and just minor bruises I get from it. But then I wonder maybe I should train more Gi to make it harder on myself lol?? 🤷
Fiancé slipped hiking, hurt her knee a bit. 2 weeks later, tore her meniscus and ACL sitting criss cross on the bed. 2 surgeries and half a year rehab.
@Bulletproof For BJJ she bounced back, silver lining, incentivized me to get private health insurance, she went private, first surgery was less than a week after the injury. Gov hospital is a 90+ week waiting list, BJJ wise, that'd be me out and done.
Same here. I've actually been unable to train for the last 3 weeks because of my rib. I can barely move without super sharp pain in my side. I know of one other person at my school who has the same issue.
ah Jaysus lads, this is tragic, I started BJJ last October, Im 55 and my injuries have been hip and should er.. so now I have these top three to look forward too..ha ha ha ha
It’s my hands for me 🥲 My parents said I have pianist hands. Delicate with long fingers. FML, of course I choose jits instead of paying the piano 🤦🏻♂️

Same. American and I love the Aussie banter.
Same!

Really sorry to hear that. Perhaps focus on some upper body strength work.
@@bulletproofforbjjyou're right, it's a good excuse to get serious upper body work in and other unaffected areas.

Great stuff guys, thank you! Would you do a talk regarding nutritional supplements and what you take or would recommend? Joint health, for example.
I agree. Had all three in my career. Yet lucky to avoid any surgery, for now!

Really useful video. I’m going to implement multiple tips.
Can you guys post some no-gi rolling footage? Would love to see what type of no-gi game you guys play.
Footage coming soon.

Having 2 months off for bursitis in the shoulder and slipped disc causing piriformis syndrome
That is a terrible pain to experience. Do you have a physio therapist to help you with your rehab?
Any reason why neck and rib injuries didn’t make it to the top of the list? I thought these two were the most common injuries.

knees over toes guy. Works really well
I always do a few hops before practice which is a habit from basketball practice

Toes are the worst as they take so long to heal. Be patient with it.
Finally jammed my big toe in March after three years and it's still tender when bending in June.
Turf toe is the worst. Can sideline you for most grappling or scrambling.
