And there's no question that if there is in fact any sort of 'solution' to racial problems, this man is a part of that. For that, like him or not....you must respect him.
This is one segment of this interview I disagreed with. I think Daryl is awesome and has done some phenomenal things. However, the media would not and will not stop relating Charlottesville to a massive racial problem in this country specifically "white nationalism". Daryl has spent an inordinate amount of time amongst White racists therefore he is well aware of the very real problem that exists, but to extend that to the entirety of the country is simply not accurate. There might be thousands of white racists that exist in the U.S. which I can't stress enough is a definite problem, but they are a small swoth of individuals that are not this immediate and imminent threat they are made out to be.
That's because the purpose of him and the significantly larger and richer organizations that promote him is not to end racism. The purpose is to end white people.
He’s become the epitome of the saying “if you stare at the abyss too long, the abyss will start to stare back.” In other words, he’s spent so much time around racists, he sees that manifest in all things. This point of the interview is how you propagate a narrative convincingly.
You're way off dude. Racism is an insidious cancer on the country and if you're point is that only a small minority are racist enough to be motivated to join a hate group, I'm in agreement with you. However over 90 percent of this racist demographic do not join hate groups, they get up everyday and live normal lives just like me and you, they discriminate in law enforcement and job employment, adhere to horrible racist stereotypes, etc, on a daily basis and are very sympathetic to the White nationalist movement, though they would never admit it publicly for fear of repercussions. They're the ones who do real harm, not the clown's in costumes....
How can you possibly know how big of of a threat something is until things start unraveling? The Jewish community didn't know how far Nazism would go and they certainly could not fathom their lifelong friends turning against them. I'm not an alarmist by any means, but I also don't underestimate the power of hate and fear. Things can quickly flip with very little warning and those who deny that need to delve into history.
TBH I didn't know it was about hate . But the fact that Daryl's ancestors fought for the confederacy and he wasn't allowed to march shows it was clearly about racist ideology.
@@blayze995 He wasn't invited, that is a far cry from being "not allowed".. from my understanding it was more of an open call to whoever's wanted to go.. if they didn't show up, that is on them.. The torches and marching was the night before the actual protest, again, this is just from my understanding.. I didn't pay it much mind to be honest..
@@zinov3 Whether or not it was hateful does matter because thats the claim made by the media and the topic of this thread. The torches were part of the whole unite the right event. And there wasn't a single non white person among the hundreds participating despite there being plenty on the right.

11:00 It actually makes a lot of sense why the Southern army was integrated. If you didn't integrate them then you would have entire black units that could mutiny at once in the middle of a battle whereas if you integrate them then the white soldiers can keep an eye on the people next to them. The Union Army segregated, not so much.

Joe doesn't call him on any of it either, except that gentle disagreement when Daryl said Chappelle's sketch wasn't funny. If you're looking to call out some racism though, start with some of the people who keep praising Daryl for being 'well spoken' or 'articulate'! Every single time I watch an interesting Joe Rogan-interview I scroll down the comments to convince myself that, yes, most people haven't learned shit and are still hateful, barely literate clowns
I noticed whenever these things are discussed, they never point out the comically low attendance. I believe the last “Unite the Right” rally held where I live in Washington, DC was attended by approximately 20 “rights.”
LOPS666Orange - Dude, when only 20 people show up for a heavily publicized hate rally in the nation’s capital, that’s a pretty damn conclusive indication that these “millions” of white nationalists simply don’t exist. That said, I fully support publicly exposing/doxxing the estimated 5000-8000 current members of organized white supremacy groups (as reported by the Southern Poverty Law Center) but beyond that you’re wasting your time trying to weed out racists that will likely all die of old age in the next ten-years anyway.
Achilleskneel - You’re not wrong. I cited the SPLC specifically because they would have had the most to gain from exaggerating these numbers. I suspect 2008 hit them hard and they’ve never quite recovered from the whole “Obama” bubble. Apparently it’s hard to sell dreams of racial equality when a country that’s overwhelmingly white elects a black individual to be their President. Good thing he wasn’t re-elected, otherwise it would be difficult to justify that organization’s continued existence.

They may have been rebels back then but we call them traitors now.
You can have "confederate pride" but you really shouldn't. They were literally the most anti-american people in history and turned traitor primarily because they valued wealth over basic human rights, that doesn't really sound like a group you should be feeling pride towards.
@@TheSquareOnes yeah but by today's standards sure. Robert E Lee wasn't gonna fight in the war until the union took over his town and occupied his house. Also the union also discharged generals just because they were from the south and was assumed they would go along with their state. Statehood was a big deal back then, the U.S still had the colony mentality cause the country was only 85 years old. I didn't have family in the civil war, but I can also look at history as for what it is.
It is not. I don't know about the US, but in (Eastern) Europe word nationalism was equal to patriotism. Basically a love for your own country. With arrival of communism however, nationalism became almost same as fascism. And that could be seen in dictionaries prior to communism and post communism. Today the word is still stigmatised and misused, mostly by media and the left.
@@tmiae0 I was taught that nationalism was like patriotism except it was more extreme. Patriotism meaning that you love your country but you recognize certain flaws while nationalism is the mentality of thinking that your country did nothing wrong what so ever it's most likely just preceded differently in our separate environments
Nationalism is about the relationship between the state and its people. State serves the people = Socialism, People serve the state = Nationalism. Patriotism is how willing a nations people are willing to fight to maintain it. In an individual sense, its how willing you are to fight for your nations integrity.
I remember going to Virginia Beach that day and driving back through Charlottesville that night and stopping there to get gas. The atmosphere was so uneasy. Everyone was on edge. I’ll never forget it
The union army was segregated while the Confederate one was integrated out of necessity. By the end of the war the lack of people to draft forced the confederates to bring in slaves to fight while the industrial north had no shortage
Believe it or not the same happened with the Nazis the last several months of the war... they started pressing minority prisoners into conscription after the Allies had reached there east and west borders
The north also sent out the word if any slave were to cross over they would be free. They were still slaves, they weren't given guns so you can't really say they fought together
@Ace Frehley Indians fought for the south because many were offered a better deal. Basically "We arnt the US we didn't fuck you they did, fight for us and you'll get a better deal." Also many of the major tribes left like Cherokee are smack in the middle of the south so dont have a good choice.
“The Confederate Flag” is really the N Virginia Battle Flag. It was rejected as The Flag of the Confederacy. Nobody used that flag until the Era Of Segregation, started with a local movie theater flying it to let people know they’re not welcome. It was Later adopted by Anti-Civil Rights “Race Soldiers.” Being from Virginia, I know the history. I can still see the cannons and trenches in town squares. So, I laugh when they make the argument, “heritage not hate” - and they don’t even Know the simplest thing about the history / heritage. Like, that their Symbol is flat out wrong. Lol.

Anthony Deperino you’re wrong, there are countless people using that argument to discredit or sway away from his overall message. but obviously considering you included yourself by saying “we”, i’m sure youre biased as well.
Uncle Tezzy that’s twisting my words my friend, I fully agree with Davis here and I doubt that half of these people are saying his message is wrong but are rather disputing the title of the video. Yes there are some that are doing what your saying but it’s in no way the majority people just don’t like click bait. And those people aren’t wrong there are tons of media coverage about what happened yes they were biased in there own ways which is why Davis is clarifying the important parts that the media missed or didn’t clarify but saying that they failed to report it is hardly the truth. And you should read more carefully before accusing people there was no bias in my message I said “we” yes as in everyone which includes you unless you have some insider knowledge on what news sources Davis watches.
Well for one the title is complete and utter horse shit. The media literally reported Charlottesville as an overt Klan rally from the start. And for the record I think that the rally and the people marching in it are fucking idiots.
@@ianbenjiman "Ignored literally everything else." I may have misinterpreted that. I'm under the assumption that what you said was you only saw them report about the hate... because you ignored everything else.
I personally don't need to be told when things are good and bad. If given the actual facts I can use my brain n come to my own conclusion. Both sides of the media seem to cherry pick their facts n references. N then put labels on the stories.
I completely agree with what he said about the Charlottesville marchers with swastikas. It was such a dishonor to the Americans who fought against Nazis. So anti-American. It's odd to me that anyone would claim to be an American patriot while sporting a Swastika. It's one of the most un-American things you could possibly do.
Daryl is so eloquent and precise in words he uses to convey the truth we really need to hear, so that we have a better understanding of how evil works in white racist society.
And Trump is on record and on video condemning the charlottesville extremists on both sides, yet the media attacks him for calling out the extreme left too
What Daryl has done with his work is amazing, but he's still mistaken on a few points, like this one. He attributes to both unite the right and the tea party the same motivation which they obviously do not share. Even unite the right, which had far greater extremist numbers, was not solely an extremist movement.
I appreciate Daryl Davis' approach to people he fundamentally disagrees with. That said, he's extremely fast and loose with the facts. I'll happily grant that the Unite the Right rally was about hate. Regardless of how they did it, Daryl concedes the organizers obtained a legal permit to hold their rally. But *what about the anti-Rally protesters, which Daryl concedes outnumbered the Rally participants? Strange, the protesters had no permit, never even applied for one. So the protesters illegally assembled to attack a legal event.*
@@leroysellers5398 Daryl's speech to FIRE a year or two back was similar: his personal story is fascinating and persuasive, but his political views are often based on partial or absolutely incorrect info. This guy knows his shit. Sure, you can pick apart some details all day, but bottom line, what he has accomplished is nothing short of incredible.
Truth..it doesnt fit the leftist narrative however...
What media was this guy watching? That's ALL the media reported it as.

@@blayze995
He wasn't invited, that is a far cry from being "not allowed".. from my understanding it was more of an open call to whoever's wanted to go.. if they didn't show up, that is on them..
The fact still remains, they are allowed to protest peacefully, and it was peaceful (and possibly hateful, but that doesn't matter), until antifa showed up and set things off..
The torches and marching was the night before the actual protest, again, this is just from my understanding.. I didn't pay it much mind to be honest..

Not an argument
Any time there is a black guest discussing racism or African history you see a startling reflection of Joe's audience in the Likes/Dislikes
There are clearly some alt-right types in the comments of this and the main video, but I think the main source of negativity is that he's simply wrong on this point. His story is fascinating but I found some of his arguments to be rather simplistic and unconvincing. Joe doesn't call him on any of it either, except that gentle disagreement when Daryl said Chappelle's sketch wasn't funny.
If you're looking to call out some racism though, start with some of the people who keep praising Daryl for being 'well spoken' or 'articulate'! I've seen three examples of that already, including from Joe himself. Microaggressions bro!

Exactly
Good thing he wasn’t re-elected, otherwise it would be difficult to justify that organization’s continued existence.
guess then white supremacist are lazy to march, poor to attend, uneducated to understand and prone to horrible crimes by shooting and bombing up schools and temples more than they want to accept...how ironic..

@CLureCo he said in the interview it was integrated.
The north also sent out the word if any slave were to cross over they would be free. They were still slaves, they weren't given guns so you can't really say they fought together
The confederacy had no black soldiers? Slaves you mean?
@Ace Frehley Indians fought for the south because many were offered a better deal. Basically "We arnt the US we didn't fuck you they did, fight for us and you'll get a better deal." Also many of the major tribes left like Cherokee are smack in the middle of the south so dont have a good choice.
“The Confederate Flag” is really the N Virginia Battle Flag. It was rejected as The Flag of the Confederacy. Nobody used that flag until the Era Of Segregation, started with a local movie theater flying it to let people know they’re not welcome. Darryl should be the only person in this world who is the only one who can speak for humans. Not nobody else should be able to represent the human race but him. He’s one of the greatest speakers I’ve ever heard. Love him
You’re an idiot. You’re being racist!
honestly, I got the wrong idea about this guy. Without looking into it I sort of assumed he was an apologist for the far right, tho I didn't understand why. I was wrong. He's all over it, the politics of right-wing hate groups, the new languages these groups adopt for a modern era and the institutions that turn a blind eye to them... he is not deluded at all about the seriousness, and the dangerousness of these groups ... he just has a very novel idea of reaching these people on a personal level and trying to enact change through these connections. Doesn't mean other approaches to fighting against racism are wrong, but now I think veryone has something to learn from listening to Darlyn Davis.
This man is amazing!
