advertising is broken. everyone either adblocks or ignores commercials. people are not buying shit they see in an ad. they are getting angry at the product interrupting their entertainment and if they even manage to remember it all they hate it now.

    • @Ceece20

That’s because advertising has become so saturated our brains are processing ads as literal white noise now. Small studies have shown our brains are changing to filter out advertisements. So rather than pulling back, creating better experience, and letting our brains process information like normally, these stupid sites are just increasing advertising at more and more rates.
Sure the short goals of ad revenue are met, but the companies paying to advertise are seeing less return on advertising investment. So they will pull back instead of the websites, so revenue goes down over time. It’s only the sites fault for continuing to push advertising harder and harder rather than addressing the issue of over saturation.

@@Ceece20 It annoyed me that people thought ads were free sustainability. Ads only pay for sites if they make money. And ads were allowed to get away with all sorts of scummy things because people thought of it as free money.
It makes me happy to hear they are reaping the consequences.
Also the advertising industry is pretty much built on trying to manipulate people into buying things they don't actually want. It is not something easy to pull back now.

The whole UA-cam ad-pocalypse thing just always felt like such a sham. At that time UA-cam had a veritable monopoly on user-driven video content. All they had to do was call the advertisers' bluff. You don't want to run ads on our platform? Ok, let's wait it out for a month or two, see how you do without those tens to hundreds of millions of views. They didn't have to bend over for the advertisers, and in turn they wouldn't have bent over their creators. There was some motivation there beyond money, no question.

And then they doubled down on the favoritism and uneven application of their vaunted terms of service.
Quick solution for adpocalypses, have content tags that advertisers can agree to.
There are plenty of vehicle and firearm companies who would be fine with their ads being on various content.
Then you have the rainbow glasses types who freak out over everything and they can run their puff ads on fluffy content.
That's how it's supposed to be anyway, not that it actually is that way.
But because the platform itself hates certain content, those ads will never be seen.

Twitch has been on a downward spiral for years. They come out with these new features that nobody asked for and nobody wants unilaterally without any kind of warning. And then the next week it changes again.
Things that used to be there you now have to pay for. The fact that it forces ad rolls in the middle of the screen. I mean that’s OK for a VOD because you’re not missing anything, but when you get slapped with a 30 second ad spot during the middle of a live stream that you can’t do anything about, it just irritates people.

While twitch has certainly kept repeatedly punched itself in its own balls with some really dumb policies and double standards that favor hot half nude woman over men and vtubers, I hope it survives for a while longer as I'd hate to see the small stream communities im part of loose what in some cases is their only source of income ( and many of their attempts to get a audience in places like youtube and kick just isn't happening thanks to zero discoverability there)

Adpocalipse is such a stupid concept. I understand that brands may not want their names associated with certain contents, but... If that is where the audience is, why should they care? Are thy supposed to buy ads on the NYT that has less and less readers? Legacy media that has less views than youtube podcasters? It is silly. Buy ads on everything and if someone complains, tell them ads are placed randomly. But then again, the silly companies are trying to use their ads to strongarm platforms to ban speech they don't like.

the SEVERE double standard VTubers face on all platforms is aggregious, and having our own specific platform would be THE best thing for the community as a whole.
