Theres alot of telanted musicians out there, who dont like the direction the record label they are signed to are going. So they branch off and try their luck at going independant. This dudes a gem regardless, fuck the greedy record labels. True music triumphs in the end.
I remember this in 1988 when my brother over sea sent me a mix tape with that song in it and the first time I play that song was at the college dance I DJ at.
This song came out around the time my first child was born. I was working evenings while my wife worked primarily during the mornings and afternoons. One morning, shortly after she left for work, our little baby girl started bawling and wouldn't stop crying. I was so exhausted from a lack of sleep -- all I wanted was sleep -- that I momentarily thought of being violent to make her stop screaming... I instantly felt terrible... horrible... disgusted for having such a horrible thought... and was eventually able to soothe her back to sleep. Later that day as I drove to work, this song came on the radio and when the words, "I never meant to hurt you" came on, I started bawling little baby. This song will forever make me think of my daughter -- I love it every time I listen to it. Thank you Grayson....
All of us whose had kids can identify with that in some way. I spent several nights in a rocker I refinished with my youngest son asleep on my shoulder & me asleep also. I never had that particular thought but I can understand what thoughts could go thru your mind when you're dead on your feet.
