Andre van Duin is a living legend here in the Netherlands. but I like him the most when he shows who he truly is. Dutch commemoration of death on may 4th 2021 is one of those moments, when he speeches about freedom.

This is also hilerious of the other dude called Ron Brandsteder, he is famous of a national broadcasting show called the Honeymoonshow, that was a somesort Honeymoonquiz where couples battled for their Honeymoontrip, mostly very expensive. So we Dutchies know him and the audience too as the host that does weddings.
I know the bride in the audience 'Marieke'. What a surprise to see her! She is a collegue of mine. I send her the youtube link. She loved your reaction :) Maybe nice to know, they are still happy together 💖

Those two have been friends for years. in the 90s they where captain of opposite teams in a show calles Who am I in which they where an object or a person and they had too guess who or what they were by asking questions etc. Nice TV game but actually it was the bantering between those two that made it such a joy to watch. And before that Ron was a quizmaster of the biggest shows. He had a show in which 3 newlyweds competed for a honeymoon. Andre came by occasionally to disrupt the whole thing (obviously staged, but it was fun to watch).

You do not want te be with him then, that is not true, but I was so tired at the end of the evening. Because he could not stop with making jokes of everyone. We had a show here in the USA that ran for years very similar. It was called ‘The Newlywed Game’. Same idea, 3 couples trying to answer the questions like their partners.

The first on the stage is Ron Brandsteder who has presented a bridal show on TV (Ron's Honeymoon Quiz) for a long time in which they had to perform activities and puzzles to earn prizes... or loose dramatically by falling into water, being slimed on, etc.

13:56 We promised before marriage "we wouldn't dredge up dead horses" => "Flogging a dead horse", In Dutch it actually mentions cows, which translates to "dredging up dead cows" meaning not the bring up old stories. He refers to his wife as a cow, a bigger animals ;-). Precise translations are hard and loose the funny details.
Dutch for pulpit (katheder) sounds very similar to catheter in dutch, thats why me made the pee joke

In the NL weddings are not like in the US. In general getting married is not really popular like in many other countries, but when getting married people don't take it as serious, I mean the celebration and decision to share a life they do take serious but it is more lighthearted and about having fun more then anything else.

Hi, question: do you get all the jokes? The translation isn’t always spot-on.
For example: 13:57, André says “not to bring up old stories” when his wife fell into the water.
There is a saying in the Netherlands: “geen oude koeien uit de sloot halen”, which litterally means “don’t pull old cows out of the ditch”.
A somewhat better translation in this case would be “don’t dig up old skeletons”. 😉
