@STATUSDETAIL , it costs under $2k for an enclosed carrier shipment of a car from CA to NY. You know you guys profited hella bank off of this. The fact that YOU brought up the $18k and are acting like a huge portion of that is going to shipping gives sleazy used car salesman vibes. Wouldn’t think the wheels would need to come off on this detail or car, with 100 miles, there is no grime or build up on the suspension components or behind the wheels. It’s literally brand new, the focus was paint correction and protection with attention to detail at a high level.

This is excellent work! How would you compare to Esoteric? They are local to me and claim to be a top 1% shop as well and seem to train a lot of great detailers.
I would think they do great work but I've never seen it up close. I'm not sure how that business is structured currently either. I'm sure they have multiple employees. So that introduces questions like how many of them do PPF. Do the ones with most experience only do the really expensive cars or do you have a vetaren doing a car with a guy who has 6 months experience? At what point do you trust the new guy to work on a car by himself? I'm my opinion that's over a year because PPF is complex. Most companies can't afford to train a guy that long then risk he just leaves to make all the money himself. Tricky business. I've seen many of the videos on there channel. I think overall they must be doing a great job and are a good source of detailing information. Todd appears to be a top notch detailer. The tricky part is who else is doing all the work. That's why this business currently is essentially completely me. So you know my last car will look like my next car. No inconsistency from employee to employee. Safe to say esoteric does high end work. As does Larry at ammo and the other big names
This is like paying 1k for the best ass wiping available 😂. No matter how good it is, paying 18k for cleaning and protection is just as insane. Stupid is stupid does.
It's completely normal unfortunately. Have worked on some of the rarest Porsches and they all have similar issues sometimes they've had issues even worse than this which will be shown in a video coming soon on a sport classic that had some of the worst paint I've ever seen on a car
When you think about it, it’s just like adding another option to the car from the dealership, or going from base model to AMG. You’re paying a nice chunk of change to keep the car super clean and extra glossy for a really long time. In that sense, kind of worth it. I’m sure it’s just 18k for this car. And if you have enough money to pay for this car, 18k really is just a drop in the bucket 🤷🏻♂️

Appreciate your comment 🙂🤝👍 im scheduled into almost Sept with jobs basically identical to this. So we know our customers and our customers know what they want 👍
Why aren’t you cutting the ppf with a printer? Cutting on paint is bound to result in a slip and cut paint. If the details cost this much you should expect that type of product
A plotter will not be as good as bulking. Many panels can only be done seamless by bulking. Plotter installs will always be worse. Plotter installs still require cutting because every panel won't line up perfect. If you don't cut often your more likely to cut paint as plotter installers don't cut as much as we do. Most important rare cars don't have plotter software. The software only helps if someone can scan the car and create the plotter format for it. So brand new rare cars must bulk cut.
I mean 18,000 subtract maybe 2k for transportaiton so 16,000/70 hours is like $230/hour? for full paint correction, ceramic wrapping the entire car etc doens't seem too too bad? and its 12% of the vehicle cost so seems like a worthwhile investment

$18,000 for a detail? Who would be crazy enough to shell out that type of cash for a deluxe cleaning? Yeah it’s meticulously done, but the finish is ruined the first time it rains after delivery. I just don’t think the value of a detail is $18,000. That’s a hell of a carwash.

Flew home. Flew in again to see work in progress on different car. Every trip was on his private jet into the private airport near me. He doesn't care about shipping cost. Or detail cost or car costs. He doesn't care about the jet fuel cost to fly here and talk to me for ten minutes. He cares about having me do the car right and perfect. I wish when i started my detailing business i would have done it when i lived in Florida or Cali instead of the midwest. We just dont have the customers with cars like these where i can charge that kind of money. I charge like 3k for a partial front and thats about the extent of what i can get lol. People around here are cheap asf. I tell a big black truck owner its 2500$ for my lifetime manufacturers warranty coating including a correction that will need quite a bit of wet sanding and they think im crazy. its fucked up because regardless i cant do anything half ass so im spending all tht time and effort for a fraction of what i should be getting.
It can definitely be hard. As I mentioned in the video people might be able to deliver something like this but charging for your time will scare away basically everyone. So you must do a lower end service to meet the needs of the market. Frustrating and complicated issues. Gotta make enough to stay in business! I'm fortunate that status is seen as the go to place for high end exotic work. So my prices scare away the customers and cars and don't want to do and attract the cars and customers I want. At this point I could move anywhere. Nearly all my business is out of state and shipped in. So location is irrelevant. I wish you the best of luck! Promote high end work as often as possible! So it's what your know for. That should attract some great cars!
Fantastic work! I am just curious about one thing. You said ppf doesn’t go by a catalytic converter yet you did ppf directly next to the exhaust tips? Why?
A catalytic converter is very different from a exhaust tip. You do need to be mindful of this too though! McLaren 720s OEM exhaust has like heat shield literally built into bumper due to heat and how the rear exit exhaust is designed. If you tune a 720 and do exhaust and or downpipes you start melting parts of that surrounding bumper and obviously PPF too. Anything shooting fire basically means your paint and PPF might not make it lol. A cat gets hotter than a exhaust tip though same thing with a downpipe. If the gtr dies open exhaust and any kind of flame tune that rear painted area is not lasting long.
@@STATUSDETAIL You responded! That’s awesome! My first thought was that gtr probably shoots some big fireballs! That is if it was actually driven. Great work!!!
After watching the whole video 18k doesnt seem expensive at all. After transportation, cost of material and hours of work , just put in consideration how much knowledge this guy has . You cant let a car so rare and valuable on a regulat detailer .
Great work. I have this cars twin and PFS did mine, while I am biased I think they are the best in the country and they generally have 20-50M worth of cars in the shop on any given day. Interesting that my car arrived in far better condition and did not require as much to bring it to perfection.
Glad to hear you had a great experience and the car arrived in good condition! As I mentioned in my video lots of customers pull out all the lights and everything to look at it to find problems but often they don't do that at all Just take a walk around it and say this looks great. Until the car comes to me and I show them everything that was wrong. Unfortunately most shops don't do The steps we do before the film goes on which means if they didn't know this either then your car had all the same problems but no one brought them to your attention. This is very common unfortunately. Many PPF shops especially ones that only focus on PPF don't even paint correct cars they don't think it's necessary. This is more of a philosophy difference especially if a shop begins as a PPF shop first vs a detailing shop that adopts into PPF.
I'm not saying its overpriced, and the job isn't best of the best. However... I feel like most of this video was trying to justify prices to random people who will never be able to afford anything like this.

When you think about it, it’s just like adding another option to the car from the dealership, or going from base model to AMG.
Do you take the clear coat down past the orange peel? Just curious if I'm seeing waves in the PPF or if that's the paint shining through.
What you see is OEM orange peel
I mean 18,000 subtract maybe 2k for transportaiton so 16,000/70 hours is like $230/hour? for full paint correction, ceramic wrapping the entire car etc doens't seem too too bad? and its 12% of the vehicle cost so seems like a worthwhile investment

Many car enthusiasts and detail enthusiasts unfortunately think you are the fool to do a $3 wash. Don't shoot the messenger. This is just the conversation anoung the detailing communities.
