- I decided to make a "one-take" drum cover of the song 'The Grudge' from the album Lateralus, by Tool. It's a not a perfect drum cover, but except from a few mistakes, it turned out pretty good!
Tool is one of my favorite bands and Danny Carey has influenced my drumming in so many ways. His drumming is complex and his use of polyrhythms is so fascinating.

That was totally bad ass AF!!! This song singlehandedly helped to break a major psychological barrier within me as I had held on to a lot of grudges from ones who did me wrong or screwed me over from the past (even going back to high school). Holding onto grudges over time leads to resentment, anger and depression and eats you up inside. When I first heard this song, knowing of the title "The Grudge", the lyrics, music, and amazing Shaman-like voice of Maynard just blew my mind!!! But it also made me very emotional and literally penetrated deep into my psyche, especially near the end with the scream, the "Let it go, let it go" and the intense climax of the coda. I was in total tears, yet exhausted at the end, as the song "exorcised the demons" and all the shit I had held onto for many years, and cleansed them away! It was like musical psychotherapy and after hearing that song, I was relieved (yet still exhausted lol) to let go of all that bad mojo! Deep story I know, but that's how much Tool music has meant to me. A lot of their songs are dark by nature (especially with the Drop D tuning) but overall, there are underlying messages of hope and inspiration within. Thanks again for your talent and drumming those very complex and brilliant parts. Danny Carey is beyond amazing!

Serious question. How long does it take for you to learn a song from Carey?
It all depends, buddy! He's a complex drummer, but all songs are different and it depends on how much you practice and how good you already are (as in how fast you recognize patterns, stickings etc.)
