She's overexposed in a way that I'm sure Leslie Feist can relate to, but a conversation like this brings you back to what makes her such an exceptional writer. And Tony is right - the lyric drives the train. She's so, so skilled in blending the conversational with the poetic.

I wish they would talk about craft more than what someone looks like, what they're wearing, who they are dating, and their obvious publicist curated origin story. Every interview is so boring. Most artists are all asked the same, stupid shallow questions when they have so much more to offer. More of this stuff. There is so much that goes into it on so many levels. Her teeny bopper fans are hearing a completely different album than me, a 54-year-old musician and production junky. She is one of the best songwriters I've ever heard. The lyrical skill, not the content.

Punisher might become a record as iconic and cherished as Joni Mitchell's Blue. It is phenomenal. It gives me the chills and nearly makes me cry. Her lyrics are fascinating although I don't ever really know what she is talking about but it hits hard and deep nevertheless. Already the first few lines of the album:
    "Someday, I'm gonna live
In your house up on the hill
And when your skinhead neighbor goes missing
I'll plant a garden in the yard"
WTF??? I have no clue but its awesome.

Its not often a band comes along and it changes how other bands decide to “change their sonic aesthetic” to “feel like” said band. Like all records I have come to think of as truly great, the first couple times I listened to Punisher, I thought 'Well, its pretty good, I guess', with a tinge of disappointment, but instead of moving on, I just *kept* listening to it, over and over and over and over, and didnt really notice until a couple weeks had passed, and I genuinely hadnt listened to another album. After about a month of that, I had to take it out of the car, and hide it in a book case, so that I wouldnt burn too much of what I was up to into it, and not be able to hear the music for all the life it was printed on. Titanic effort. This was a great conversation, Berg seems like a terrific person.

English is not my 1st language (spanish is) so most of the time my first approach to an album is through the melody and then I really look at the lyrics so I remember the first time I heard it, to say that I was "amazed" is an understatement 😍

I found it a bit frustrating when the producer was being secretive about the techniques and plugin, I love how some of the greatest producers/eng nowadays on youtube open their hearts out and are not so secretive as it seems like historically has been the case. I mean cmon this guy is not gonna loose any work if he says what plugin he used 😅 anyway for anyone who's interested in the production of garden song an engineer named Ben Davey wrote an article in his blog mix perspective going in deep into this song and re creating the effects, sharing even the presets plugins (he gets really close to it) and he does a much better job at explaining the production of this song than the actual producer
