Dave Grohl has a good story about how he got back into music after Kurt passed. He said that he basically couldn’t escape this whole sad situation in America with Kurt passing. So he decided to get on a plane and go to Ireland, he rented a car and started driving through some very remote parts of Ireland, and while he was doing this, he saw a hitchhiker and was going to slow down to pick him up, and he saw the hitchhiker wearing a nirvana shirt, and that’s when he thought to himself “I’m never going to escape this. Foo Fighters was the best thing to come out of a tragic end to Nirvana. The Colour and the Shape is easily in my top two or three favourite albums ever. It’s incredible that he managed the find the motivation to create such great music such a short time after he was unable to even listen to music after Cobain’s death.
Why would it have been incredible to start a band? He was still young and He had to make money somehow. with all the songs leftover it was probably pretty easy decision

None of us get through life without having someone hating us for whatever reasons. Dave Grohl has managed to keep that to a very low number. And I like him better than any of the people named here as hating him.
@gusgarcia2440 as they have every band of every genre, except maybe jazz and country, since music began it's journey over the airwaves starting in 1906.
@Gus Garcia Yeah, teenagers …and his kick-ass drumming style, and the instantly recognizable hooks in most of Nirvana’s discography, and the crazy amount of session work he’s done with legendary bands (see: anything featuring him with QOTSA), and his songwriting ability (at least on Foo’s early stuff), and the fact that he doesn’t have a fucking god complex unlike half the people who move in his circles… (case in point). But no, must just be those damn teenagers.
@@Alex-pe7ywDave only wrote drums on ONE Nirvana track. One. Uno. He didn't even record Nirvana's session drums. Per Kurt himself + Nirvana's Producers (Albini & Vig) & Recording Engineers, in interviews you can watch right here on YT for yourself: anything Dave recorded was always re-recorded by either Kurt or a session drummer, until Kurt just straight up told Dave not to come to the recording studio anymore. Chad Channing wrote all the drums for Bleach & Nevermind, and recorded drums on everything up to Nevermind. And Dave was the only person who threw a fit about Channing being on stage to accept Nirvana's induction into the Rock 'N Roll Hall of Fame... So he wasn't. The camera keeps awkwardly cutting to him smiling in the audience while Dave drunkenly gives a 15+ min acceptance speech, during which he doesn't utter Kurt's name once. It was all about Dave. No one else got a chance to speak, not even Nancy Cobain, who didn't have a good poker face being forced to stand on stage, stomaching Dave's selfish theatrics. There's so much more... But I think I've said more than enough. Just read Kurt's letters about Dave to see how he ruined his relationship with Krist, or checkout a compilation of Kurt & Dave arguing during soundcheck, interviews, performances, etc. They couldn't stand each other - especially that final year.
A drunk likes Dave and thats the approval you need ? Geezus H fkn christ lol... Ok the dude loved his rock and roll but lets be clear here, he never left his teenage years and it took his life. Drunken old bastard playing a bass is what he was.
@@sergiolandz6056It took his life? Lemmy lived until he was 70 then passed from cancer and heart failure. He made himself rich and famous by doing something he absolutely loved which is the dream 100% of people would want for their life. If life was a video game, Lemmy was one of the few people to "complete" it. Oh, and drunken? Despite him being able to drink people like Ozzy under the table and consuming well over a litre of Jack Daniels a day, there isn't much footage of him being drunk. The only factual statement you made about him was that he loved Rock 'n Roll, and the rest just seems like sour grapes. Well, sour to the point of bitter grapes.
I don’t care if you are playing stadiums or in a garage, being in a band has all the complexities of being in a love relationship without the sex and having 4 or 5 partners. I have never played in a band that I didn’t leave hating all of them and I still don’t speak to any of them , even when it was my call to bail. It’s always an emotional ride
I've never met the guy, but I did just read his book and he seems like a super cool and super down-to-earth guy. It's hard for me to believe that he's hated at all lol
Down to earth people don’t require you to receive an experimental, heart inflammation causing injection just to be near them. That is the opposite of down to earth. That is elitist scum
If someone doesn't like Dave Grohl as a person is probably a fairly miserable person who hates the world. Dave Grohl is humble, hilarious, down to earth, very philanthropic, and just an all around d good guy. Same can be said for Taylor Hawkins. I really am going to miss him & thr banter he and Dave would have on stage or in interviews.
@@adamfindlay7091 Of course no one is perfect and every celebrity has their off moment days but overall, Dave Grohl appears to be a solidly, good guy. The last show I saw him at in Nashville, we were suppose to meet him but he was hurt, they had problems getting to their our stop & I'm sure he was really tired & probably in some pain. Some people got mad that he canceled the meet & greet (not a paid one, a radio one) am sure incase absolutely crushed but I understood. I've watched many documentaries on him, the FF, his early bands before hooking up with Nirvana and the one documentary I really enjoyed the most was From Cradle to Stage. That's s really good one to watch. Also, seen them 3x live and each show was better than the one before. I'm 54 now and the last time we saw them in Nashville, my sister (4 years older than me) turned to me & asked if I was ready to go cause she was so tired 😄 We rebounded & made it through but Dave & the band went full throttle for 3 1/2 hours. That's getting your monies worth. Oh, and it was the tour with the broken leg and still he rocked harder than ever before. He gives his audience what they want. I'm just so saddened by the death of Taylor that I don't know how it can ever be the same.
True. I had not thought of that. How unusual. The only thing weird at that levelI can think of is The Grateful Dead. I forget the number but it's something crazy, like six dead keyboardists. They may have all been overdoses.....I just can't remember for sure. .
its weirder that Kurt could be wasted on drugs as the media & Dave say, yet Kurt could remember all the lyrics and song arrangements at all the shows, and continue to write more, while creating artwork and poems while acting completely normal and aware in all his interviews. Ok Dave! You're the Best!
Agreed. In that movie the foo fighters made, "studio 666" grohl chops Hawkins head off by slinging a cymbal at him! ......and then dude literally dies in real life exactly one month later on tour in Columbia! That movie poked fun at "blood sacrifices"......🤔🤔
Hate is a strong word. Life is too short to care about who does or doesn't like someone most people have never met. No wonder the world is so messed up.
Kurt did write something in his notebook about getting rid of Dave. But also wrote after that how gifted he thought Dave was and how he was thankful of having him in his band. Kurt just wrote down feelings and thoughts. And then we were all exposed to them.
Yeah, this just reinforces what a badass Dave is and makes him seem that much cooler. He had a drummer who wasn't up to the job, but continued to let him try. And instead of hiring someone else, he redid the work himself. The Cult were the antithesis of the Grunge movement, so no big deal there - just not Dave's scene. Still, Dave apologizes to Ian years later - talk about a stand up guy. Channels like this are simply parasites who have nothing creative to contribute themselves.
My hatred for goth/alternative trash, brought me to her. Not my thing, but she proves that at least someone, in the alternative world, is like me (on some of her personal beliefs).
I was in a band, not famous but dysfunctional regardless. Had a lead singer Could sing in private but too shy to sing in PUBLIC. A drummer who could drum but not on a drum set. A drunk bass player who never heard of tuning his bass......those are the good stories. Another lead guitar player /singer who had outstanding warrant for his arrest, got handcuffed before a gig. Went to a battle of the bands, we were too cheap to hire roadies ,so while we went back to the car competing band stole our guitar cables. Ah, THE GOOD OL DAYS! 🎸
yea, well according to the media and people like Dave,... Kurt was a struggling druggy that could remember lyrics and song arrangements every show lmaoooo and continue to write more and more while creating collages and paintings and drawings, and poems lmaoooo ok dave ! you're the best! right there with Willy Corgan lol

I think grow is a very determined very very prolific master of his gift and no matter who it is there's always going to be people out there that love him and people that don't like him but he is very very hard-working and the fact that he it's a perfectionist makes Foo Fighters the great band that it is.
Honestly, you can’t get along with everyone, no matter how nice you are. A lot of this came from either legal problems dealing with Nirvana or Dave being funny and people getting bent out of shape about it. The fact it’s only like 5 or 6 people in like a 30+ year career is pretty impressive actually. Noel is the only one who was being a baby, they wanted Oasis to reunite because they were huge fans of the band, Dave has said that publicly
LA is full of fickle people that are stuck on themselves. You make a joke in a studio there & everyone there just holds their breath because everyone's scared to be the first to laugh.Takes about 2 days to break that fear of being labeled this or that. Then theres always that one guy or that one girl that goes the opposite way. Theres always the 1 person. Im sure Grohl's had a LOT of that. Thats why I think we'd either get along or be instant enemies. Anyone I worked with that had worked with Dave liked Dave. Course, if they didn't they wouldnt dare say it. Cool thing about Grohl is the work ethic he holds his band to. That is really rare.
@@thetruthchannel349That sounds horrible - like everyone is their own PR team, regardless of status. Like a whole major city comprised entirely of social media "influencers". Dave Grohl rocks hes a legend , nothing wrong with being a perfectionist when your recording something that will be out there permanantly. You cant do a recall on it. And you cant believe everything you hear from the media good or bad

he just keeps repeating that kurt was a struggling druggy, but how the heck could kurt remember all the lyrics and song arrangements for the shows? how could he be so normal in interviews? how could he keep writing more & more ? something doesnt add up. dude seemed normal to me, but the media say no

Just gonna leave this here... I was a punk rock kid in the 90's, all I listened to were very obscure bands from the early 80's and 70's Punk rock. There were a few obscure bands locally that, despite having, no audience, indulged in the punk genre. Then came Nirvana. I IMMEDIATELY loved Nirvana when I heard them. I FINALLY heard some of the raw emotion from my normal punk rock music in something mainstream! THAT was alien to me. Most things I heard, in that time, sounded so canned and plastic. They fit a formula deemed good at the time and had (to me) no life in it. Music has always meant so much to me. Then Kurt died. That sucked, but hey it seems to happen frequently with musicians.... Later Grohl formed the Foo Fighters. I was sort of excited that he might continue the same "raw" quality I had heard in Nirvana. He had absolutely NO IDEA what made Nirvana what it was. He seemed to completely miss the point with the Foo Fighters. Most people went along, but it has never been the same to me. Foo Fighters seems just as plastic as everything else at the time. To me, Nirvana was great because the EMOTION was the forefront of the music. The playing DEFINITELY played backstage to just raw release. Even Kurt's voice BROKE under the weight of the notes he sang. That flawed characteristic MADE IT BETTER! Most music in that day had perfectly timed and theorized solos. They ALL seem to follow formula. My punk friends and I called that guitar masturbation. We preferred raw emotion and angst ridden rifts. Rhythm guitar was king. Nirvana's music followed that. I preface this by saying. DAVE is probably a nice dude, I think he is, to everyone else, a GREAT musician. To me, he is not ever going to be nearly as good as Nirvana. His music, to me, just missed the roots of WHY people liked it. He plays the same plastic rock of that time. No innovation, just... as good as every other mediocre thing at that time trying to emulate everything else successful before it. Blasphemy!... I know, but I just can't say things that aren't true (to me) EVEN if everyone else disagrees. Honestly, cause I don't care if anybody thinks or agrees with me.
I disagree when Taylor joined it was just a matter of time before he couldn't take it anymore soon thereafter he showed up for practice Dead sorry but Dave is a mfr
Taylor asked Dave to slow down the touring, and Dave added more shows instead. I used to like Dave alot, until I heard this after Taylor died. now, I'm not so sure....
@@MK-xl9tt well no shit, its been 30 years and no one has, dave was the drummer of nirvana not the primary songwriter, why would you expect him to be just as good as kurt
So, basically some people just don't like Dave because of his professionalism, his dislike of high-school type drama and hard drugs, and his particularity when it comes to his music (which - let's face it - is a huge part of what has made the Foo Fighters so successful...)? Well, I guess that's how it goes - though honestly it looks more like envy than anything else, to me.

Cobain seems like he was a good person, but I find that he was oddly obsessed with the image of himself and his band. He seemed to have a difficult time reconciling his massive success with his commitment to underground punk rock. He seemed hostile toward bands like Metallica and GnR almost as if he was terrified of being seen like them by association.
He was jealous of any successful band. He spoke negatively of Alice in chains and constantly ripped Pearl Jam. He could never shut up about Guns N Roses who simply invited them to tour with them.
@@MrOctober44 1) I've never seen jealousy out of other bands more successful than Nirvana. In fact, like the OP said, the complete opposite. They didn't want to be seen as mainstream. If anything, it felt like Cobain had an inner struggle with wanting acknowledgement of his accomplishments without the adoration. 2) I've never heard Cobain speaking negatively about AIC. In fact, the complete opposite. Heard him and Staley and some other members in Brazil went on a binge. As a matter of fact, if I heard anything negatively about a review of the two bands amongst each other, it was from AIC to Nirvana. Jerry gave a backhanded compliment regarding Cobain's musicianship. Not saying he's wrong, but if there was any sort of negativity, it was from the AIC camp to Nirvana. 3) Cobain apologized about his comments regarding Pearl Jam. He said it because he thought they were bandwagoners and riding the grunge wave while not agreeing with them being considered grunge. I forgot why, but he walked it back because of something involving Eddie and said he was wrong for those comments he made. There's even a video of them somewhere dancing together, and Eddie paying tribute to Kurt right after the news broke of his passing.
@@Whatever122t Check out his interview for Flipside magazine in 1992. He rips Alice in chains calling them band wagoners, corporate puppets, cock rockers among other insults. Yes, after mercilessly ripping Pearl Jam for over a year, he eventually relented and stopped taking shots at them. He constantly ripped Guns N Roses as well as other 80's rock bands.
@@MrOctober44 Ah ok, I see it. He grouped them together with Pearl Jam. To be fair though, I think it was a year later the Brazil tour happened, so like Pearl Jam, he probably laid off on them too. To be fair also, he probably shouldn't have said it so rudely and self righteously, but at least at the time (giving the history) he wasn't really wrong.

I read, back then, that Axl Rose wanted Nirvana to play at his birthday party, and Nirvana turned it down. As far as the MTV awards, if I remember correctly, in the next copy of Spin or Rolling Stone, there was a cover article with Kurt Cobain. If I remember correctly, Kurt said that he was upset about the conflict, and that he could understand and identify with Axl.
Yes that’s true for some reason or another that quote from Kurt didn’t find it’s way onto the articles and he said he liked apitite for destruction again that was lost just to sell a few thousand magazines

Also, the fact that, good or bad, he pics a fan out of the crowd to come on stage and rock with him. Bigtime respect for helping fans fulfill dreams.
I just think Dave is the softest rock star ever , foo fighters sound like some high school indie band that somehow ppl think they were the 2nd coming of rock . Most bands in the mainstream have been soft since foos came along.
Could be that he has to pay his god in order to continue being successful. Neil Young speaks of his obligation to the boss, the big man who is not of this world.

Foo Fighters are shit. Pop rock and nothing artistic or special.
@@alfredooliva5175 and that 1xt foo fighters album was not anything like nirvana. like not that good, but good because was closest thing to new nirvana we had at the time,
Jamming with Kurt and basically went through a school of Cobain… made it way easier to write songs
Foo Fighter's music is terrible and generic
This is a clickbait video.
I was thinking this was going to be a “cancel Dave Grohl” type of video, but really all it is is he made some mistakes when he was younger and has since matured…seems like a typical live & learn kind of thing 🤷🏻♀️
What's the last "Cancel [insert name here]" video you've seen?
Click bait.
None of us get through life without having someone hating us for whatever reasons. Dave Grohl has managed to keep that to a very low number. And I like him better than any of the people named here as hating him.
Helps too that his autograph rule is he only does it to support charity.
That number spiked to an all time high, when he barred the FILTHY UNVAXXED from seeing his shows.. Guy's a bought out idiot.. On the take.
Lemmy Kilmister loved Dave Grohl and thats the only proof I need of Dave being a great guy.

Oh, and drunken? Despite him being able to drink people like Ozzy under the table and consuming well over a litre of Jack Daniels a day, there isn't much footage of him being drunk.

Kurt wanted Dave fired & towards the end Kurt wanted out of the industry all together. So many lies.
ill agree with the second part, but you cant just say kurt wanted dave fired, its not like you knew the guy
Kurt did write something in his notebook about getting rid of Dave. But also wrote after that how gifted he thought Dave was and how he was thankful of having him in his band. Kurt just wrote down feelings and thoughts. And then we were all exposed to them.
not according to you tube commenters...
That's why they killed him
Yeah, this just reinforces what a badass Dave is and makes him seem that much cooler.
Grohl sucks and if it wasn’t for Cobain, this garage musician wouldn’t have had a career
The drumming on the sdre albums is sick tho

That is really rare.

funny how a lot of your “Why Rockers Hate X” videos, i never hear of anybody hating them until seeing your videos. dave would be no different.
I'm sick of seeing him everywhere with people who have 10x the talent he does
Just gonna leave this here...

Cobain seems like he was a good person, but I find that he was oddly obsessed with the image of himself and his band. @@MrOctober44 1) I've never seen jealousy out of other bands more successful than Nirvana. In fact, like the OP said, the complete opposite. They didn't want to be seen as mainstream.
