Those Irish speakers are being willfully obtuse. The main reason we got away with having a draconian abortion ban for as long as we did without even worse consequences was because _women were able to go to England to access abortions!_ Infuriating
Exactly. The deaths of Anne Lovett in the 80s and then Savita Halappanavar were enraging to me, as someone who grew up in Ireland and knew the Galway Regional Hospital well. Irish women were second class citizens until finally the dam broke. And it was abortion rights that broke it...
The Repeal the 8th referendum - pending legislation, changed a little that. I believe Ireland is within the most restrictive in Europe but at least abortion is not completely banned any longer.
The rise in not only anti-abortion, but also anti-birth control, is concerning. I need the pill due to PMDD. Not only can I (and my hubby) not financially take care of a baby (let alone more than one), I mentally and emotionally cannot handle pregnancy and PPD. There's also the very real possibility of developing postpartum psychosis.
As a men i don't know why these men are being so forceful about women giving brith like dude your not the one giving birth and be decommissioned for a while the entitlement about it annoy it the women choice because she have go through crap men never will alsp more when it a women doing the same crap i see men do being a female uncle ruckus
Here is my comment on the previous video. The overturning of a woman’s right to choose has been a literal bloodbath in the US. I encourage people in Europe to research the instances of death and significant injury to women who had a medically needed abortion and were unable to get one. If you are carrying a child with a recognized fetal abnormality that will make it impossible for the child to live outside the womb, the medical response should be abortion. Even if the woman wants to carry the fetus to term, the risk is the fetus will die in the womb. If that happens, and it is not detected immediately, the woman has a 50% chance to lose her womb, and a 10% chance of dying of sepsis. There are women who were denied care who have had other permanent health complications after being denied care. Add to that, in the US, women are not guaranteed health care of any kind, so they can’t afford to go to a doctor until it’s too late. If they deliver a healthy baby, they have no post partum care either. All of these anti abortion organizations are also against birth control and IVF. This was confusing for me regarding IVF. If you’re so high on babies, why not bring more into the world? The truth is, they don’t want women to think they can delay child bearing. It’s a form of control, despite the fact that IVF in this country is beyond the financial resources of a vast majority of Americans.
Their crusade against IVF has its roots in white nationalism. Something these right wing types freak out about is the trend of white women having fewer kids. It's not something they hide, they talk about it a lot. They're specifically bothered that wealthy, college educated women are waiting to have children, because there are more wealthy, college educated women every year. You take away their ability to choose when and how they have kids, and you don't just control them, you make more white babies exist. Then the white people don't get outbred. Again, they're not being quiet about it, they're absolutely terrified of what will happen if white people aren't the majority in the United States. Or the UK for that matter, those people won't be quiet about white nationalism, either.
The point on IVF is well made. I hadn’t thought about as a form of control, but it makes sense. I personally know a couple who are so pro-life that they believe even the embryos that are in cryo are already people with a soul. And adopted 2 embryos that the mother carried for the full term.
Bro, the only bloodbaths that happens in the U.S. are in the planned parenthood clinics. LOL. Literally throwing away bags of guts and organs and women are like 'buh I wanna hang out wit the girlsssss.'
The interview with that dude talking about his ex baffles me because...how do you know theyre unhappy? Dude cant get over his ex and hes imagining them being miserable, thats just pathetic
Honestly it made me laugh at how tone deaf and how stupid the whole situation is. A man is commenting on how miserable his EX girlfriends are because of their abortions. None of that has anything to do with him 💀
I'm sure it was him that became insufferable after they got the abortion then naturally became unhappy because of him, for legal reasons all speculation
"Keep your Rosary off my ovaries" was one of my favoruite protest signs during the pro choice marches in Ireland coming up to our 8th amendment referendum. Ireland still has a ways to go regarding abortions and AFAB people but that was a step forward.
I find it interesting that the gender most keen to share their opinions with you at the Pro-Life March is not the one who will ever have to face the consequences of pregnancy.
Um as a person with endometriosis… have any of these people marching ever heard of endometriosis? Or any reproductive disease that makes carrying a child difficult or impossible? Do they think reproductive diseases are fake?
No. They have not or do not care. Pro-life moments operate purely off of feelings and a powerful desire to control women. The consequences are not considered at all.
Many just want you to suffer and don't actually care if a baby is born or not. Look at how they celebrate when women die after being refused procedures following a miscarriage. If they cared so much about life they'd want the mother to be helped so that she could one day have another child if she wished, but instead they salivate at the thought of another dead one. Its always been about hurting women for them.
I just got my tubes tied 4 weeks ago and I can't wait to tell the next person who asks when I'm having kids that I can't have kids. I want to watch the light leave their eyes 🥰
I got mine tied after kid#2, and its a special type of joy to be like, "i can't have kids anymore" and just look at them when people are like, when are you having more?
I never had children due to various issues, primarily mental health related. I am a military combat veteran with Complex PTSD. I have suffered a series of traumatic events during my life, including a paranoid schizophrenic step father who crushed me. I am now over 60, so no kids for me. I resent that people ask me why I never had children. I brace myself when someone asks me if I have children. I am tempted to say something like uterine cancer caused a hysterectomy, but I don’t like to lie. Also, it’s none of your effing business why I never had children. Eff off. This is an incredibly personal issue. I love children. My siblings, between them, had eight children. Their children have now had six children. I am, universally, the favorite aunt. I have been deeply involved in their lives since they were children. Because of my traumatic childhood, I was not set up for success with romantic relationships. I never had a partner who wanted to have children with me, and most of my relationships were less than a few years. I am hyper vigilant, so I am can tell immediately when something is wrong. My partners felt they had no privacy, because it was like I could read their minds. Anyway, tale of woe, blah, blah, blah. Kind of off topic, but yeah.
@bleeb90 A good man would also support her autonomy. Unfortunately there seem to be quite a few that look at women as not deserving of such a basic right.
Or where all the extra children are supposed to go. Do they really think that most people who have an abortion dont have reasons for why they cant take care of a child?
@@Jack_Slate I mean: a significant number of them do, actually, but adoption is not a substitute for birth. Lots of people who give birth and give away their babies would keep them if they could.
@@manderly33 Yes, it's not a substitute, but it is a better option than risking a person's life to bring, potentially, another being into this world. Why not take care of those who are already here before you start bringing more in? Also, what's the point of having a kid if you're not going to or can't keep it? Isn't that what abortions are for? To prevent bringing more misery into the world for both the parent and the child? Not that orphans can't lead perfectly happy lives, but from just my country alone I can imagine the potential for suffering and hardship is high. And don't say stupid shit like "hardship builds character", kids should have fun growing up.
I always thought pregnancy would (probably) make me pro-life to some degree, but now I just feel so much worse for people forced to give birth. Programs that help mothers-to-be pay the bills and focus on their mental health would be so much more productive. No one is jumping at the chance to go through it, the people that get abortions tend to NEED them.
Pregnancy made me more pro-choice. I was open to the “just put it up for adoption” argument but the I experienced how hard it is on your body to grow and deliver a child. I now don’t care if there are one hundred loving families waiting to give this child the best life ever, forced pregnancy is torture.
Same! Pregnancy and default parenthood is difficult enough when it is joyfully welcomed and anticipated. To be forced to endure that against your will is abhorrent.
Well, since it turns out that 74% of young people in the US aged between 18 and 29 support abortion rights, the "prolife " side is going to be sorely disappointed...

@@Xenozillexcontrolling what someone else does is also a violation of freedom, and a much more serious one at that since it literally costs the lifes of living humans. and further more, if someone sees something as "murder" even when science directly contradicts that, then why should people have to pretend into their delusions that a growth that's literally classified as a parasite should be treated with more respect than actual humans? if someone chooses to deny science for their own sentimental reasons, then fine, but they can not force others to do the same. further more how is that violating their freedom? it quite literally doesn't affect them in the slightest. also "american freedom" is a myth and just a lie to sell the unobtainable american dream.

The same is happening in Italy. We never had a "pro life" (anti choice) movement here. In the last few years a handful of loud American Evangelicals (there are no Italian Evangelicals) are trying to build a pro life movement but polls say Italians are in favor of abortion. I read nobody went to their march in Rome. They have more success in London and Paris. Why dont the USA leave us Europeans alone??
My theory is that, if the rest of the world progressed (say gay marriage is legal everywhere but the US, and abortions are free and legal everywhere but the US), the average person in America would be more likely to also be more liberal. "Why are we the only country like this? Why is there overwhelming evidence gay marriage/abortion/whatever doesn't harm society?" So basically they try to stop the march of progress everywhere

A similar thing happened with the cannabis legalization referendum in Aotearoa("New Zealand"). American money propped up the conservative anti campaign, which lied about what the proposed legislation would do, putting up adverts implying cannabis would be sold in dairies or near schools when the legislation indicated it would only be sold in specific licensed premises a certain distance away from schools.
The conservatives are terrified of the world changing or progressing, so they have to try and stop it everywhere. (Plus, could you imagine if every country around the world judged America for being behind the times? Then the American citizens might dight harder for change!)
Does the video mention her? I'm exited, now. Not because it's a fun story, obviously, but I've been mentioning it left and right to anyone who'll listen about how "exceptions" to abortion bans use unscientific language and do not adequetely protect peoples access to life saving treatment during pregnancy. The same story has repeated itself in Poland and USA, multiple times now. These laws are dangerous. See also how graped ukranian refugees in Poland couldn't have access to abortion either, and at least two stories of pregnant children being forced to give birth in the americas, because grape "exceptions" don't work either. These lawmakers either know this and just don't care, or don't know it and just don't care enough to learn. The laws are an exhibit of their careless ignorance. In fact, some of these laws seem to be specifically designed to make abortion as difficult as possible to access, no matter the circumstances, no matter the exceptions, no matter the cost in actual human lives. Don't forget how many anti choicers, politicians and otherwise, spread deliberate misinformation, like claiming that abortion is NEVER medically necessary (I wish I was kidding). The biggest lie is that these people care about human lives, or even about actually reducing abortion rates. They do not care. Their policies are clear in how much they do not care. More people should know Savita's story. Perhaps then they'll realise how much these anti choice people knowingly or through criminal negligence, choose to endanger pregnant people's lives.
I was raised in the Pro-Life perspective here in Canada, and only exited it in my early twenties when I already began deconstructing the Catholicism I was raised in and actually researching things directly from good sources. I believe I was at a March for Life event in Ottawa in...2015? 2016? Don't quite remember. I brought my then-girlfriend and she was triggered by the grotesque images some of the Pro-Lifers carried around. I found out that not only did outlawing abortion not really decrease abortions in any significant way but also killed people, impacted their ability to get healthcare in general during pregnancy, and only really affected poor people. With it not even being effective at the thing I was raised to want threw it out of my ideology immediately. Then when I spent more time reflecting and growing to understand the reality of the procedures, the people who deal with them, and the biological realities of the fetus and I moved not only to Pro-Choice but I would call myself Pro-Abortion. As in, I don't even just think people should consider abortion but should be absolutely no shame and take it as a good decision depending on their circumstances.
There's this sentiment which I largely see from religious but liberal minded people which goes something like, "Abortion should be safe, accessible and rare." It always rubbed me the wrong way. Why should anyone care about the frequency with which abortions occur? If someone decides they need or want an abortion, they should have one. This rare clause seems to imply that there is something undesirable about having an abortion, that there has been some kind of failure on the part of the person having one. It comes across moralizing but in a less overt manner. I dunno, I just generally agree with your sentiment, I'd call myself pro-abortion too and it's weird to me that there are people who think it should be accessible but still want to apply some sort of value judgement to it.
@@rainbowkrampus hoping by implying "rare" they mean access to comprehensive sex education and birth control, since that does lower the risk of unwanted pregnancy including teen pregnancies, something these pro-life propagandists never want to hear about
@@rainbowkrampus to play devil's advocate a little, I wouldn't say wanting a medical procedure to become rare is a bad or moralising thing necessarily. as someone very set on abortions being freely available, I would be concerned if everyone got them all the time, because it would mean that every other method of birth control is failing miserably at its job. and those other methods of birth control are a hell of a lot less stressful on the human body than a partial pregnancy. basically, abortion should be safe, accessible and rare in the same way that amputations should be safe, accessible and rare.
@@PugandOwn "because it would mean that every other method of birth control is failing miserably at its job" See, I don't think it entails that at all. What it means is that people have rejected those methods for some reason. Like, nobody actually wants to use a condom. If for no other reason than it's a moment of distraction and mechanical preparation. There are ways to mitigate the degree to which it interferes with the ritual (trying to avoid the risk of YT auto censoring here) but it will always be something people do as part of risk management first an foremost and if there was a better option, I imagine condoms would go the way of the dinosaur. Hypothetically, if plan B had no side effects and we found some sort of CRISPR, mRNA style vaccine to prevent all STIs, and both of these things were easily accessible, I still don't think you'd see 100% adoption. People have a lot of wacky ideas. And, frankly, often we're just kinda dumb. But I'm not super interested in telling people what to do with their body even if there are "best practices" for achieving certain goals. People may not intentionally be conferring any sort of judgement with that phrase but I still think that a judgement exists within it. There's an "ought" hidden in there and there really doesn't need to be one. Safe and accessible seems sufficient.
I'm glad this topic is being talked about. Its just goes to show that rights shoud never be given for granted. Poland has been struggling with serious anti-abortion movements for years and it's disheartening. I've been hearig the same stories that are now coming from the US for years. I've seen the same imagery displayed in my city and people loudly exclaiming that women that chose abortion are "murderers" (even though abortion has been illegal for years, the only exception being rape and endangerment of the mother's life- which still didn't stop some very preventable deaths). We can't ignore these movements. Let countries like Poland and US be an example of what happens when you chose misplaced faith over human life and freedom.
Thank you for making this video. Two years ago when America lost it's collective marbles and started to criminalise abortion, I got scared. I know the American lobby spend big money overseas, and I immediately became donor to a group within my country that fights to keep the right to abortion. On that note, calling them "pro-life" is generous. They don't actually care about human beings. They care about impeding women's rights. They're pro birth, damn the consequences.
Exactly. Funny there's a correlation between pro-lifers and conservative, austerity, inequality-increasing policies... Advocating for life when the life is a potential in the womb, and as soon as it's in the world, doesn't give a flying f***.

Yes, for a lot of women abortion is incredibly painful both physically and emotionally, but if they would rather that than a lifetime forever altered, that should be their choice.

According to studies, 95% of people who get abortions do not regret them. That's an incredibly high percentage. That's enough to convince me that people know what they're doing and are not making these choices thoughtlessly. I feel like saying "but some women might be traumatized" is kind of treating them like infants who can't make their own decisions, when clearly they can and do.
So an opinion survey is hard science if it supports your stance? Great to know, I will be telling everyone that trans rights are scientifically proven from now on.
If abortions are banned the government needs to build a system where men who heavily advocate as pro-life must be given custody of the most disabled and disadvantaged children born unwanted. All healthcare for the pregnant mother is paid by said custody owner. Then all of abortion and woman automy rights will immediately be restored and everyone will never say a word about this ever again. The end.

I think this is a common trend with right-wing politics across Europe. In Spain, where I am from, you can tell the United States influence to the point that some American slogans are reused (in some cases they are even used in English). A great video.
We (that is the UK) are increasingly the Petri dish for many US think tank operations, look at Brexit and Palantir/Cambridge Analytica or funding for TERF groups, I think part of the reason we see so many Americans trying to influence UK politics is that they see the UK as a place to experiment with tactics that they hope to swing back at liberal US states. It also has the advantage (for them) of normalising US political positions within an international context.
As a mother of three children I fully support all women to have bodily autonomy. Carrying children is not for everyone. I am lucky to live in the NL where I was able to get two abortions of foetusses that could not develop into healthy babies and survive outside my body. My womb is nobodies business but my own (and my partner on the choice of family planning). Sending strenght to all women struggling with getting the care they need. You deserve more than possibility dying from pregnancy.
The simple fact of the matter is this: No one can decide on the fate of a pregnancy except the woman carrying the baby, it's her body and consequently her decision, everyone else should keep their noses out. More often than not it's religious zealots (who actually think that something resembling a pile of snot after its been removed is sentient and can really feel things) that want to impose their will on others - It shouldn't be allowed in the UK, or anywhere else for that matter. What happened recently in the USA is a tragedy for the rights of women worldwide because the overturning of Roe vs Wade has given agency to pro life advocates everywhere. The sooner abortion is enshrined in law here in the UK, the better.
I'm so sorry that happened to you. No one deserves that kind of treatment at all. Pro-lifers should keep their noses in their own business. It's your body your choice. That was a decision that you had to make for yourself NOT theirs. I'm glad that you got the healthcare that you need and deserved. I hope you are doing better.
That’s probably the most sensible way to treat them tbh. The problem is that they have a lot of cash. Rich people looooooove to get us crapping on each other instead of them.
It's not silly at all. They're shitting their pants over the declining (coughwhitecough) population, the question of who will take care of the aging population, and what's going to happen if the work force thins out. One high ranking Black Rock executive was wringing her hands over that last point recently, fretting that the next generation's smaller workforce means employees will have more bargaining power and might demand (gasp) to be paid more. We need to take these people seriously because they're not going to stop trying to take our autonomy away.

I'll give you one better. A woman in the usa was actually jailed because of a late term miscarriage. The baby was 26 weeks. She went tonthe hospital for bleeding and abdominal pain 2x. She got no help and thr pain subsided so she went home. The pain started up again and she miscarried in the toilet. She went to jail for months without even being convicted of a crime! This was in the usa. And she's not alone. Many women have been jailed for miscarriage in the USA.

It was one of the most awkward interactions of my entire life - I couldn't find the spot and I bumped into a friend who helped me find where the protest was after I said "are you going to the abortion thing?" and he replied "yeah". We came across the crowd and it was at that point that he walked over to the opposite side and joined the pro life society. We hadn't realised we were on opposite sides of the issue.
Early in May 2018, about a month before the abortion referendum in Ireland, Facebook blocked all ads regarding the campaign that were paid for by non-Irish organisations regardless of whether they were endorsing a Yes or No vote. The following day, Google followed suit and blocked all advertising around the campaign. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the no-voters were far angrier about this than the yes ones. It all but confirmed the level of astroturfed support they were getting.

You can hate abortion and choose to never get one, but that shouldn’t mean it’s illegal. Access to abortion saves lives. Period. Thank you for making this video. Sorry about the Americans
As a British person who went to an all girls Catholic school we were very aware of this movement we had some of these "charities" come and do an assembly were they gave us all tiny baby feet brooches and told us that that was the size of a baby's feet at 20 weeks and then when one girl asked what if we are raped and her response was "it's not the babies fault. Are you really going to punish the baby for the fathers indiscretions". This was ten years ago and I still remember itthe video they showed was of a baby asking why it's mummy doesn't want it and is killing it. It was a horrific video. Many girls left that assembly in floods of tears it was also written into our Religious Education curriculum as well.

Those Irish speakers are being willfully obtuse. The main reason we got away with having a draconian abortion ban for as long as we did without even worse consequences was because _women were able to go to England to access abortions!_
Infuriating
Exactly. The deaths of Anne Lovett in the 80s and then Savita Halappanavar were enraging to me, as someone who grew up in Ireland and knew the Galway Regional Hospital well. Irish women were second class citizens until finally the dam broke. And it was abortion rights that broke it...
literally this was The Known Thing when i was growing up
The Repeal the 8th referendum - pending legislation, changed a little that.

It’s a form of control, despite the fact that IVF in this country is beyond the financial resources of a vast majority of Americans.
ohh I never thought about the ivf bit as a form of control as well ...good analysis
They're not stopping abortion either. They'll just push it underground, killing mothers in both childbirth and unsafe abortions.

No. They have not or do not care. Pro-life moments operate purely off of feelings and a powerful desire to control women. The consequences are not considered at all.
Unfortunately a lot of them haven’t thought very deeply about any of this.

A good man will support you in this.

People forced to give birth? Were the women forced to have s3x with out protection? I think not 95% of the time.

Rip Savita Halappanavar🕊

That’s really great. Thank you for being willing to have your mind changed.
There's this sentiment which I largely see from religious but liberal minded people which goes something like, "Abortion should be safe, accessible and rare."
It always rubbed me the wrong way.

@@PugandOwn "because it would mean that every other method of birth control is failing miserably at its job"
See, I don't think it entails that at all.
I can't believe it. I even made a comment about how this video probably going to be taken down soon😅 but I'm glad it's back, love to watch it again
Guess what? Now I’m going to watch it even harder
I call them forced birthers, especially now that they're even forcing it on young victims of SA and incest.
Exactly. Funny there's a correlation between pro-lifers and conservative, austerity, inequality-increasing policies... Advocating for life when the life is a potential in the womb, and as soon as it's in the world, doesn't give a flying f***.
they’re also often against birth control, so they truly just care about *forced* birth

I didn’t sleep last night due to the spirited back and forth in the comments on the previous video. Now it’s all gone. 😭
Rest in peace, Savita Halappanavar.
I had to get an abortion at 14 because I was r^^ed, people outside the clinic threw water at me and I’m traumatised still
I'm so sorry that happened to you. No one deserves that kind of treatment at all. Pro-lifers should keep their noses in their own business. It's your body your choice. That was a decision that you had to make for yourself NOT theirs. I'm glad that you got the healthcare that you need and deserved. I hope you are doing better.
thats so upsetting :( you deserved better at such a traumatic time i really hope youre doing better now
I'm sorry but I can't take pro-lifers seriously. They're so silly
Of course they are silly. They pretend to care about life but devalue life to do it. Its insane.
That’s probably the most sensible way to treat them tbh.
The problem is that they have a lot of cash. Rich people looooooove to get us crapping on each other instead of them.
The forced birthers? I take them seriously because they _always_ vote. They destroyed our Supreme Court, which affects much more than abortion, too.
Yet they are a serious threat.
