I loved the beautiful, enormously talented Julia in 'Fresh Fields' and then 'French Fields' in the 80s..I used to watch these funny, entertaining shows with my gorgeous Mum and I have such happy memories of that time, so very long ago..Julia had the most sublime, powerful singing voice and I enjoyed her wonderful performance as Miss Marple too..Thank you for this lovely tribute to Julia and her brilliant acting career..🤩💖
I love Julia McKenzie. There's one beautifully acted scene in Cranford in which she recounts a tender memory of a friend's kindness and their steadfast bond. Re: Sweeney Todd, I was fortunate enough to see Angela Lansbury in the role in Boston. Best night of theatre I ever had.
Thank you so much for showing us the wonderful life and career of this great actress. I hope she is given another opportunity to show her talent and that she enjoys good health for many years to come. 😊
I love all the Miss Marples! I saw Julia in "Death In Holy Orders" where she played a sweet, modest retired nurse. She was beautifully attuned to the role and the other actors. It's amazing to hear that she was a singer, and played all those big bright roles. Nothing could be more different than Mrs. Lovett in Sweeny Todd and Nurse Margaret Munro in DIHO. How versatile she is!
@@cs3742 ……re-watch both ‘DIHO’, & ‘The Murder Room’, whenever I need a ‘fix’ of Martin Shaw. The final scene in the latter, I know it well, as spent an hour waiting on that platform to catch train to Edinburgh, from King’s X station…………
The Queen Elizabeth II and James Bond video was hilarious! Kudos to the Queen for being such a good sport. Julia McKenzie was brilliant in Cranford I&II. The episodes where she made bloomers to make her cow “modest” and where her cat swallows some old, expensive lace were priceless.
Thank you so much, I loved her as Miss Marple but I hadn’t known about her many other talents. And, no, I didn’t know she stood in for the queen for the olympics! Wow, how special and, yes, how odd would it have felt to meet Her Majesty dressed as Her Majesty. Thank you again, a wonderful compilation 🙏🙏👵🇦🇺
I enjoyed Julia McKenzie's Miss Marple, and watch the episodes she is in whenever they are on. Regarding Sweeney Todd, I saw the original Broadway Cast in 1979 with Angela Lansbury and Len Cariou at the Uris Theatre renamed the Gershwin Theatre. Their performances were so memorable, I went back to see it again.
When choosing the definitive Miss Marple, part of the process is not just the talent & interpretation of the actress, but also the overall production: filming, script, and direction. Except for the whimsical Margaret Rutherford productions, most of the others tend to have a more traditional take. But I love them all. And I love that you present them all to us (as well as the various takes on Poirot). But to the point of this video, I’m so glad to learn about the range of talents that Julia MacKenzie brought to the varied roles of her career. Thank you! Keep up the good work!
Lovely video. I didn't know about her involvement with the 2012 Olympic opening ceremony. I remember watching Fresh Fields as a schoolboy. It's not a great sitcom, but I loved her in it.
I’ve seen her in many roles, including Miss Marple. She is without doubt a versatile actress. It’s odd that I came across this video at this time, because I saw an article a few days ago that Richard Osman’s book, The Thursday Murder Club, is being made into a film starring Helen Mirren for the role of Elizabeth. I immediately thought McKenzie would be perfect for the role of Elizabeth’s sidekick, Joyce, in crime solving. She’s the right age, and she’s played many similar types of character. I wonder if she might be under consideration for the role?
I love all of your videos related to Miss Marple, and Julia McKenzie's portrayal of the renowned sleuth was, in a word, marvelous! (Or should I say, "Marple-ous"?) While Joan Hickson is my favorite of all the Marple actresses, Julia runs a very close second. She's positively brilliant.
Hello, I've just found your channel today :) .I saw Julia on stage at London's National Theatre in "Schweik during the Second World War" on a school trip in 1982
I had no idea Julia McKenzie was a musical theater star! What legs! I’d only seen her as Miss Marple other her dowdy tweeds. Who knew she had legs l8ke that!
I NEVER liked Julia McKenzie playing the part of Miss Marple. She was totally the wrong person & I agree with Agatha Christie that Joan Hickson was the right person for the part & I have all her videos.

Oh, great! How lucky you are, indeed!

……that was with the brilliant, & hunky Martin Shaw!
@@elizabethroberts6215 How fun that you remember DIHO too! Martin Shaw- - -yum, yum! still hunky at 79.💔

She actually was my favorite Miss Marple.
Agree. Julia McKenzie was an amazing Miss Marple but Julia had the look and the sparkle. I do love to watch interesting videos about talented women

Thank you sharing these wonderful stories about these wonderful actresses. I’m huge fan of Agatha Christie .
Glad you enjoyed it
Julia McKenzie was my absolute favorite Miss Marple, I loved them all but she and a few others were my favorites.
Thank you this was very enjoyable.👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Cool, thanks for sharing!
83 is still a young age for a brilliant and dedicated actor/actress!
I 💜💕 Miss Mckenzie's radio & tv acting! She's one of our best actresses!
Love Julia McKenzie. She has always been the very best.

I hope one day Emalda Staunton will play miss marple.

Welcome, @ceryfrost3215 And that you for sharing this memory of yours!
Thanks xx
She was a neighbor in SHIRLEY VALENTINE with the vegetarian bloodhound.
I was going to bring that up, but you beat me to it. I can still remember her claiming that the dog "loved his muesli". LOL
……first saw Julia in brilliant 1982 UK drama series, ‘Fame is the Spur’, & have enjoyed her acting ever since………

I like her very much. I've seen her in other roles
Thank you for yet another lovely story - although Julia was not one of my favourite Marple's. Great actress though

The only Miss Marple I could not accept. Good singer though.
That lampshade is throwing me off
Fresh fields was way better than french fields!!!!
I like her best in, Maggie and her🌹
