Outstanding! just had my 2004 jeep grand Cherokee 4.0 HO back on the Road after 4 years of sitting in the snow of Canada… same lift you have and Same rims…. Just had to install a new starter. It’s like it never sat…PERFECT.
Man, if you think that rocker panel rust is bad, dont come to the northeast😆 very excited to see the next videos 😎 Dude youre a national treasure for saving the WJ’s 🥹🇺🇸
I'm in northern NY, and replaced my rockers with the Spadano Enterprises ROCKer sliders. My Jeep is currently in pieces, as the 4.0 piston skirt from cyilinder 4 decided to go to the oil pan. I've got a spare 97k engine in the garage so that will be going in. Got the old one out, and pulled the head today., Due to the tipping of the piston, I found it was slightly striking the head.
I bought my '02 for....we'll just say considerably less than this one, as it had been abandoned for like 5 years. Put a lotta' time, work, and $$$ into it, and now I fuckin' love it.
Good on you man. I love that Silverstone metallic and it's amazing how good that Chrysler paint is. It lasts forever. A little buff out and it looks fantastic.
Love that you are saving WJs. Planning on swapping my 03 rims for wranglers as well. I like the look and easy to clean. I have thought about the 2 inch lift but hesitate only because I heard on another channel that lifts can cause drive shaft problems because the length is not meant to be lifted. Causes premature wear on joints?? Not sure if that's a thing. Also want to ask you. I have a mysterious popping sound that sounds like a backfire when hitting about 30 mph. Dealers claims it not backfire but line lash. Said it comes with high miles. I only have 98 k on mine. Is that even thing? I hear the same popping sound coming from what sounds like under the front passenger side of the car. Drives me crazy I can't find any info on this.
Hi Tyler, very nice video. I just brought a 2005 2.7l Jeep Grand cheroke landero its starts but does not rev up. Getting codes below. Any ideas what to look for? Nice video. I bought a really clean 99 Wj loaded a couple years ago and it came with a new set of lifters and oil change stuff. The guy had already replaced the easy side then gave up on the the side I did. I’ve been taking parts off of it for a couple other Wj I have. Looks like I’ll dig into the lifter change now starting with a comp check. THANKS and MOPAR2YA
Hi mate, Great video and great work. I have a WG 2001 Grand Cherokee missing at idle ,wanting to cut out ,but kind of keeps running and eventually stops ,but no noise coming from that head area, do you think it's still likely that a rocker has dislodged. I replaced timing chain and not after this started happening. When i drive it up the road it wants to stop every 500 or meters and starts up again .Cheers would love to hear your thoughts about it thanks.
Hey Tyler what spring compressor was that, I've been looking for a decent one and it looked like that worked well. My 2000 WJ has 220000 on it, 4.7 and it still runs strong. That jeep looks awesome after that lift and tires!!

I have a 04 4.0 freedom edition w a clean California body. Solid rockers and everything but I paid $9000 for it. I drove it this winter undercoated to the teeth w fluid film and surface shield and got a little surface rust not on the truck but on the tubular bars that are under the rockers yes it actually still had them. Now I'm working on sanding and painting them. I know I'll never match that grey but any color is better than rust. I actually have another one exactly the same also w bars but the undercarriage unfortunately is rusty as hell. It also runs and has less than 190000. That sucks. The one I drive is at 132000 and even the driver seat isn't broken and I've never seen that. I'm all about saving the WJ's but never had the v8. Does it really have enough power to sacrifice reliability? Just wondering. I would love to have a 98 zj 5.9 but my first was a wj and I love them so!!!!
5 Stars! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Two Quick Questions: 1- What did you do regarding the track bar and control arms after the lift? 2 - Have all of the alignment specs been checked and verified? Adding a 2" budget lift drastically changes all of the front end geometry, specificaly the caster angle and center line. Why? One side of the track bar bolts to the body and the other bolts to the front axle thus the center line is now off-center due to the body lift which requires an adjustable track bar to properly correct. Adjustable upper and lower control arms are also required to correct the negative caster created by the budget lift. Ask me how I know! lol... I found a 2000 WJ Laredo 4.0 2-WD with 74k a while back and have been going through the motions!
Yes you loose some caster with the lift, I always check the alignment after the lifts and sometimes the caster is still in spec (though at the low side of the spec) to correct this you could buy aftermarket adjustable arms or slot the brackets on the axle for the front lower control arms like the factory service manual calls for on JK wrangler. Also yes with the 2in the stock track bar will pull the axle slightly off center but with only the 2in lift it is pretty slight. Thanks for the view!
I just bought a 03 wj as my first project. Drove it around the block a few times and realized that the engine ticks at low speed and idle . I can’t figure out what the problem is . Any idea what might the issue be
You say you always put a 2" lift on them. Can you add a link in the description to what lift kit you use? Especially if you are able to get a small portion of it. Great video! Thnx
I wish I got a small portion lol no I just pay like normal each time. It is just the 2in metal Rough Country spacer lift for the WJ. Thanks for the view!

These are 17in Jeep wrangler JK wheels with 255/75R17 tires but they are pretty large for the 2in lift and do rub, I think the 245/70R17 or 255/70R17 fit a lot better with the 2in lift.

If the Jeep is only going to be driven on the road you can even reuse the stock shocks as their length still works fine on the street, if the Jeep is going to be used off-road then correct 2in lift shocks would need to be used. Thanks for the view!
@@TylerPotter.. Wow, yeah, I've seen a lot of listings for those wheels and tires, for really cheap. I think I'm gonna get a set, but put a more practical tire size on'em. Those wheels look so good on WJs.
So, they’re horrible and not worth anything, no one should buy them… mine mine mine they’re all mine. 😂 Well I’m a complete noob to the seen at 54yrs of age but have researched the crap out of them. People (the masses) are just now (last few years) realizing what an absolutely awesome little 4x these are. Solid axle = better travel in the suspension, 4.0L absolutely bullet proof, the 4.7 8 is still a solid choice and from what i can gather… these were literally the best kept secret. If you’re half way mechanically inclined (me) you can do at least 80% of whatever needs to be done to them. They were cheap to get into… that is quickly changing.😢 Thanks to UA-cam and showing bone stock WJs kicking the sh!t out of anything in it’s class and a little higher… It’s no wonder. Anything newer with an exception with a couple years sprinkled in are garbage (don’t yell at me, just what I’ve read) hence why they’ve got a bad rap and stayed under the radar so long. Now, I just wanted to brag here a little. I just picked up an in pristine 2001 4,0L. Guy wanted $10,800… I did not pay that but that’s literally the way these are heading. So knock off a couple thousand and you’re in the ball park of what I paid. When I say pristine… Busted Drivers side actuator - $50, Shocks - at least one leaking oil, don’t care because I’m just going to put a 2” lift on anyway, drivers seat is a little soft on the left side - shove a bunch of foam from underneath should (Hoping) firm it up and the front hood is a little oxidized. Now get this… you’ve heard of the little old lady saying… this is the little old man version. No rips, no tears, no Stains, I mean not even a little hole that I can find. Literally looks like it just came off the showroom floor. As far as I can tell Bushings still look good (just getting old) very very little surface rust underneath. Like I could take a green scotch guard pad and just wipe it away. No linkage clicks, squeaks, Yata yata. Saving the best for last… Drum roll… 70,000 miles………………… I’ll just let that sink in for a minute. 😂😂😂. I literally don’t know if I want to play in it or put it in a f&^%%ng museum. 😂 anyway thanks for reading and old guys post. 😁 Oh… yeah I’m going to play in it… but in adult way. 😜😁 I’ll be selling it in 20years on my death bed for 100Grand.
Hello good sir I was sent over from Facebook I’m having trouble with my van and I’m not sure if it’s the tranny or something else. How do I go about talking to you
Omfg just looked at a brown one today 2400$ dents all down the passenger side and aluminum FOIL tape on front driver fender and rear fender to cover rust.. like you said over mind the potential engine issues but tf ppl man I swear! On the other foot You post something with one issue and they tire kick down to trying to trade a four wheeler lmfao
When you release the WJ back into the wild, will it be able to fend for itself by hunting and eating "Kias and Hyundais" and maybe an occasional Honda??? 🤣
same here 400 in georgia 99 super clean 4x4 4.0 wouldnt idle was just vaccum leak but after driving for a couple days the transmission started having isues.

Easy to work on and clearance
whats the best motor trans and year grand cherokee
Most will probably say the inline 6 4.0 since it is a lot more tolerant of abuse vs. the 4.7 V8 that needs to be taken care of more closely.
I'm about to buy a 4.7 limited wj, why does everyone hate it?
I don't hate them the 4.7 is just a little more fragile engine the 4.0 that can be abused over and over with no issue. Thanks for the view!
Wouldn't it be easier to just buy 4.0s then there's no engine work needed lol
But the 4.0s aren't broken and aren't cheap for me to buy broken lol Thanks for the view!
@@TylerPotter true its rare to find broken 4.0s lol i have looked haha
Keep fighting the good fight and save all the WJs!!
I'm trying my best! Last weekend I brought home number 9!!!!

Omfg just looked at a brown one today 2400$ dents all down the passenger side and aluminum FOIL tape on front driver fender and rear fender to cover rust.. like you said over mind the potential engine issues but tf ppl man I swear!
On the other foot
You post something with one issue and they tire kick down to trying to trade a four wheeler lmfao
"I've never seen one with rocker panels this bad" come to Michigan and look at my WJ
When you release the WJ back into the wild, will it be able to fend for itself by hunting and eating "Kias and Hyundais" and maybe an occasional Honda??? 🤣
I bought my wj for 400$ 😅and it runs and drives even before than.
same here 400 in georgia 99 super clean 4x4 4.0 wouldnt idle was just vaccum leak but after driving for a couple days the transmission started having isues.
Valve seats! Is the reason for those rockers to come off. Heads need to come off. Valve seats and valves if needed. And you will be ok.
