    My TD-H8 came with two different antennas and two batteries. However I didn't get the charging cradle. This may be exclusive to the USA? Apparently this radio can do HAM or GMRS. I'm an old school army radio operator from 15+ years ago so I'm a bit rusty. Looking forward to brushing up my radio skill set.

    Have had my 2nd gen since June works great 9.5 to 11 watts out the extended range ant is very good with swr close to 1.1 both bands. I have the set which i 2 batteries 2 ant charger adaptor and usb cable plus speaker mic. no desktop base. the only issue i had was both batteries went bad recently contacted them they sent 2 new ones out overnight their customer support is super. if issue with blutooth connecting make sure to turn it on via the BL button on the front of the radio. now we are at 3rd generation firmware upgrade it does use chirp also for those who want to pprogram from computer but be warned the cable plug in into the radio often times wont make solid connection unless you hold it pressed in some people use a rubber band wrapped around it and the radio body others just use their hand to hold it in securely. I still have my ft60r which is about 6 years old and it sits on my desk scanning our local repeaters (about 30). I use this as mina ht niow as the higher watts make it much better to hit the 4 primary repeaters we use for local events such ass marathons airshows etc

    I doubt that charger is just a capacitor dropper, a very dangerous solution, though we have learnt not to take safety for granted these days. Regarding band limits it might be better to make them user defined, some of us in the UK have an NOV for 146-147....though preferred use for that is higher speed digital.

    Can you talk on Raido way it is after unlocking h8? And if I go back to GMRS mode will it still all work? Or do I have to reprogram everything. Thank u

      Changing the mode of the radio (ham, gmrs, unlocked) will reset the stored memories so will need to be programmed. I hope this helps!

    Hey Jonathan, I’ve got the Ham version of this unit but will only use it in GMRS mode for now. Only have the GMRS license. Do I need to get the GMRS model to be legal or is the hardware the same?

    • @M0JSX
      @M0JSX  8 місяців тому +1

      Hi, thanks for the comment! I’m probably the wrong person to ask. My gut says that as the radio was purchased as the ham version, then technically not, however if you’ve done the button pushes to make it the GMRS version then I suspect you will be fine. However, if in doubt contact the FCC, they will be able to give you accurate advice! Jonathan K6JSX

      @@M0JSX Hi. Hate to interrupt, but I wanted to say I believe this radio is certified for both HAM and GMRS. So I think you're good. I might be wrong, but I believe that's correct. I'm also just licensed for GMRS and might buy this radio..

    I had to replace the supplied usb charger as the battery light would just sit there flashing red to green. plugged it into a samsung charger and it works just fine.

      Which antenna in particular? I’d like to do some more videos on antennas in general.

    Jonathan I had a response back from TIDradio today advising that I couldn’t buy the option of additional battery as that is only available within the USA. They advise the addition battery is external (I assume not fitted) and hence would contravene the air freight restriction of lithium battery’s and planes etc etc.
    None the less I have purchased a radio. And thanks for the discount.
    Just need to wait 10-18 days for shipping.
    I’ll provide update when received (I hope it’s not a scam hi)
    I wonder What the battery life is like?? Regards hi

    • @M0JSX
      @M0JSX  6 місяців тому +1

      Yes. I was told a similar story. I think it is down to Royal Mail’s policy on shipping batteries (have to be fitted to the unit). I’ve found battery life with one to be excellent! Enjoy!

      @@M0JSXAnother update from TIDradio, advising that should I need another battery I would have to purchase another complete radio. That would be expensive route to a 2nd battery. Should the battery fail in the early days of use I hope TIDradio are sympathetic and supply a new radio. Let’s wait and see how it performs first. My note to UK purchaser’s is to be aware that there may be hidden problems should you find an issue with the battery.

    I got one of these recently as well. I think I like the Retevis RA89 a little better, but its certainly not bad.
    It might be worth sending that sketchy charger to Big Clive.
