I like the bright color display, unlike many HTs it is usable outside in bright light.

Hey, Jim. I'm in Tucson, a retired pilot and enjoy your channel. Based on reviews of the 2nd gen H8, I bought one (I'm a newbie Technician class). I discovered a signal (from the Mt. Lemmon repeater) received on the H8, bleeds over on all 200 channels-UHF & VHF, including the NOAA channels. Bleed-over is so strong, it overpowered the NOAA recordings. Replaced it with another new H8 and experienced the same thing! I really liked this radio, but this was a "deal-killer." Do you have any words of wisdom for me and my unfortunate experience with the 2nd gen. H8?

@@BillBreen I'd contact Tidradio and see what they say. I've heard of them asking for serial numbers to see if a batch showed similar issues and sending one from a different run. They seem to care about user experience. Can't hurt. Thanks for sharing .

Hello thank you for the information, is it possible to use two handset as a mobile phone and should we get licensed to use it in Australia? Thank you.

The answer to your questions would be quite lengthy. I suspect you'd need an amateur radio license in Austrailia and in getting one, you'd likely answer the first question. Cheers!

How can I tell that it is a 2Gen radio if I want to buy one?

An evil friend wants to know if there is anything preventing this radio from doing GMRS stuff (in an emergency, of course). (edit) I finished watching and saw the reference to this question.... thanks.

The ham firmware is locked into the US amateur frequencies. Take a look at my other H8 videos where I describe power on key strokes that will allow transfer between ham and GMRS. Just not at the same time.

I love this radio. It's my new EDC now. Have one in the truck and up in the bedroom. I unlocked mine to work on GRMS so I can drop in on the weekly NETs in my area.

If you look up the fcc ID info, this radio was only approved for transmission on GMRS. They just don’t care. There is also an unlock feature on this radio where it then becomes jailbroken and can tx on all of its rx frequencies.

Just curious, did you take a video down, for the life of me I’ve watched all the videos on this radio and can’t find the one where you went into detail about how you can go back and forth between modes, I even see where Tidradio only has the 10 watt Ham radio on site. Just hoping no legality issue has made them drop versions, I’ll take a gamble and get the 10 watt version, but was honestly thinking about getting both, but doesn’t look like you can now

I got the older firmware from a Black Friday deal and contacted their support. They told me they didn’t do anything to the hardware, and for me to just update the firmware.
    I don’t recommend this radio.
