    I went back and rewatched your video of the tear down on the Baofeng UV-17; UV-17R; UV-21Pro; Radiodity GC5 and I noticed the speaker and front buttons from your previous video were all connected with a ribbon cable, BUT this Tidradio used a 2 conductor wire soldered directly to the main board for connecting the speaker ??? What a pain for reassembly !
    I would much rather buy a brand that used ribbon cable for its connections even if the price was significantly higher. Thanks for doing the teardown. It’s nice to be able to see the differences of the various brands on the inside

    • @KC4NWK
      @KC4NWK  4 місяці тому

      Thanks for the comment. Yes it is interesting to see how they vary. Some have nice plug-in connectors and some are soldered to the board.

      I much prefer wires over ribbon cables. Easy to repair and tend to be more robust. Typically adds no extra pain during re assembly. Shouldn't be disassembling unless you have the adequate tools anyways.

      These cheap radio manufacturers count pennies with recurring costs. (BOM & labor). Repairability doesn’t even enter into the equation. Everything is about driving the cost down and getting the reliability to perform past the warranty period.

    As far as I could find, the TA3782 is a McKinney steel half mortis hinge with bearings - "Half Mort/Hvy Wt/Brg/5K 1 TA3782 Steel". Though I will hinge a bet that is it a proprietary FPGA of sorts.

    I'm not 100% but the controller seems to be a variant of the AT32F421C8T7 or similar, maybe even just rebadged. Investigation in ongoing.

      Thank you, keep us posted!!! I'm about ready to post a video on the TD-H3 insides... and it has the same CPU. I know people were wondering about custom firmware for these radios like the Quansheng UV-K5(6)! The TD-H3 has the same radio chip as the Quansheng, but with a mystery microprocessor, the hacking becomes a little more difficult. Thank you for watching and commenting! 73s

      @@KC4NWK Upon further digging I think I'm totally wrong. I couldn't get anything to make sense given the firmware image for the H3 when assuming it was an ARM Cortex core. The core that seems to produce the best and more consistent disassembly is the Intel 8051 MCU architecture.

    • @TrimeshSZ
      @TrimeshSZ 24 дні тому

      @@nicsure That STM32 is an Arm Cortex M4 part - I honestly can't see them using an MCU like that as a controller in a low cost device like this, especially since all it has to do is run the keypad and display and send a few commands over I2C. Using some 805x derivative seems a lot more plausible. Finding out which one could be a challenge though - there are a huge number of 805x core MCUs on the Chinese market with a wide range of different features and capabilities, and most of them don't even have an English datasheet available.

    It would have been nice to find a well documented microprocessor: possibly then, the firmware could have been modified (just like with the UV K5). 😢

    • @KC4NWK
      @KC4NWK  4 місяці тому

    How would they go about reducing spurious emissions? Are there better components that would be used? Or better insulating materials? I am curious what they changed to meet the standards

    • @KC4NWK
      @KC4NWK  14 днів тому

      That's a great question. It is possible to use better components, or even changing certain values of components in the filtering circuits. I haven't looked side by side at the boards, but there is also possibilities of board revisions to include more filtering.

    Out of all the radios I have, the TD-H8 has the worst fm broadcast receiver. Broadcast channels I receive on all other radios are nothing but noise on the TD-h8. Unfortunate because I like everything else about the radio, but the poor 65-108mhz reception kills it for me. Seeing the beken chip that is to blame was interesting.

      This just goes to show how different people will value different things. When I hear that the rx is deaf there, I think that is a good thing because it should reduce intermod from those strong signals.
