Brandon, the reason it doesn't make sense to you is because you don't have the special sauce, aka the Holy Spirit. If you had the Holy Spirit, this would be clear to you. This Holy Spirit has been withheld from you because of something ,something, something. Problem Solved.
@TonyLambregts When I was a Christian, I could tell you that I heard the gospel (Romans 10:13) since my childhood by my parents. (Ephesians 6:1-4) I was taught that I was a sinner and that I wasn't worthy of God. (Romans 3:23) In my ignorance, I believed God's word, (John 8:24) because of my belief, I repented of my sins, (Acts 2:38) I confessed Jesus to be the son of God, (Romans 10:9-10), I was baptized for the remission and forgiveness of my sins in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit having died to sin (Romans 6:2) and to live rest of my life faithfully in service of the Lord so that I wouldn't lose my salvation but rather keep it. (Colossians 1:2). I fully believed that the Holy Spirit dwelt in me, and so did Brandon. The Holy Spirit doesn't dwell in anybody, just like Atlas doesn't hold the Earth in place because it's a myth. The Holy Spirit doesn't exist.
Off topic, but another good response to the "free will" argument that I think deserves more attention is this: Sure, free will matters, but *whose* free will? The victim or the oppressors? When someone does, that person loses free will (arguably the most valuable freedom which is the right to life)
Apologists would have a comeback to this, even other people in general, because even if you have a bunch of disadvantages you can "control" how you react and still choose even if it's between only horrible choices, it's why so many people say we choose to go to hell like it isn't pre determined by non-belief among other things God doesn't like.
@@bluester7177 I think the problem mentioned is not meant to be the existence of free will, but about God valuing it. If God bases our punishments upon another's actions, it is impossible for our free will to impact the process.
That reminds me of a game we used to play as kids. One of them would grab the other's arm and use it to start hitting the other while all the time saying, "Why are you hitting yourself, stop hitting yourself". The more the other kid protested, I'm not hitting myself, the harder the first kid slammed the second kid's arm against them. Don't know how this silly game started, I have a vague impression that it was my parents who started it with us kids. Yeah, that was a good game to play all right.
There is nothing in this book to support a loving, slow to anger, unchanging god. Christians simply can't have it both ways, and they call us cherry pickers?! I don't think so.
@@veniqe It's difficult to answer if a perfect being would get angry. However it is much easier to understand why an all knowing all powerful being wouldn't get angry. Anger is typically an impulsive reaction to feeling wronged. But an all knowing being couldn't be wronged . They know the future of everything. No surprises in store for them. All bullets can be easily dodged. Along with that is how an all powerful being has nothing to fear. No fear + No surprises = No anger.

When I pointed out to a group of Christians that their God does indeed punish people for the sins of others, they argued me to the ground that he does not. David's baby and all the first born sons of Egypt were the examples I used to show them that not only were they wrong, but that God punished innocent babies for the sins of their parents. This PROVES that Christians do not actually read the Bible. They read certain verses that the church tells them to and believe everything that Pastors/Preachers/Priests/Rabbis tell them.
Kids aren't innocent. Ask the general who ordered his men to massacre an entire Native American village, even the children and babes in arms. When questioned he said simply, "nits grow into lice." God was acting like that general, dealing with a problem before it became a bigger problem.
I agree that christians for the most part dont read the bible. I believe I quoted Numbers 31:17 at a group of bible believers...the verse number might be wrong but it was the part in Nmbers wher Moses tells his people to yknow, kill everyone but the young vrigins and thake them for themselves as god commands and got told "thats not in the bible." They worship a book they barely grasp and only ever get verses from their preachers is what ive noticed.
The big disconnect seems to be between what the bible SAYS about Yahweh and what the bible SHOWS about Yahweh. People quote, "God is this. God is that" but when you actually look at what Yahweh has said, done, didn't know, and couldn't do, it doesn't match up.

As a child when I heard of the original sin for the first time I was astonished that I was punished for something that somebody, who I did not know, do. It did truly put me off and it did not take long to realize the Bible thing was nonsense.
I'm so angry at myself for having believed in religion. Using hell to scare us into worship is despicable. I'm so angry I can't get back the years I wasted on nonsense. At least ex Christians aren't threatened with death for unbelief.
Our world was flawed long before any of us were born, and there can be world-changing consequences for our actions even if we didn't "know better" to begin with. You don't have to like reality to acknowledge it, no matter how "off-putting" it may be.
And on that note, christian's wouldn't be able to complain about atheists "cherrypicking quotes" if there wasn't any metaphorical cherries to pick in favor of making a case against the religion, even saying we aren't "looking at the context". Meanwhile it appears the reality is that it's like a whole cherry-bush worth of horrible quotes and verses, and ironically enough oftentimes the context either does nothing to alleviate it, or even makes it worse in a number of cases.
Not to mention the comfortable living the bible provides for millions of doctorate-level scholars whose sole function is to figure out what the word of God says...and then argue about it, since even they can't agree on any of it.
I posted this video on my Facebook and my Christian friend said "Why look at the negative. God always blesses from generations and generations to come from those who live righteously." I feel bad for her
So it's cool for god to play sides. Well, that does seem to be what both OT and NT say: be on his side, you're good; be on another side, you deserve all the misery you can get. And actually, you deserve misery even if you're on god's side, because we're cursed for all eternity, because the Fall -- a story about god that humans made (cribbing bits from other literature)
It's just so irrational. So suppose you get a righteous person...so god is supposed to bless for a thousand generations after. His son is unrighteous...so now god has to punish four generations...then the grandson is righteous...now he has to bless for a thousand generations...then the great-grandson is unrighteous...whiplash.

When a Christian tries to tell me humans create sin, not God, I point them to Psalm 51:5. Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me Then I ask, If God doesn’t create sin, how does sin get into us from conception? Do humans create new souls?
The Psalms also write about trees, that clap their hands in joy of the creation. I think the author of the passage wants to tell us something. Id be suprised if the message is: "Guilt is a concept, that does not require a free, personal actor." When I was a Christian, I was of the opinion that fathers shouldn't pay for what their sons did nor should the sons pay for what their fathers did. Everybody must bear the consequences of their own actions. To justify that, I used Jeremiah 31:29-30. Jeremiah 31:29-30 NASB2020 [29] “In those days they will no longer say, ‘The fathers have eaten sour grapes, But it is the children’s teeth that have become blunt.’ [30] But everyone will die for his own wrongdoing; each person who eats the sour grapes, his own teeth will become blunt. To me, that was a beautiful passage showing that God will not punish sons for their father's sins. Nevermind that Exodus 20:5-6 shows God telling the israelites that if they worship other gods, he will punish them, their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. As a Christian, I conveniently tried to ignore horrific pasages that contradict Jeremiah 31:29-30, or tried to fallaciously justify them. There are several instances in the Bible where children faced consequences due to the actions of their fathers. Here are a few examples: 1. **Achan's family (Joshua **7:24**-26)** - When Achan disobeyed God by taking prohibited items during the conquest of Jericho, not only he but also his family faced punishment. They were all stoned to death and then burned. This drastic action underscores the communal responsibility and collective punishment common in the Old Testament. 2. **Eli’s household (1 Samuel **2:12**, 34; **3:11**-14)** - Eli’s sons, Hophni and Phinehas, were corrupt priests who sinned greatly against God. God declared that the iniquity of Eli’s house would not be atoned for by sacrifice or offering forever. The immediate punishment was the death of his sons on the same day, and the long-term consequences included the downfall of his priestly lineage, despite the fact that Eli himself was a righteous priest. So, God punished Eli for the actions of his sons. 3. **The house of Jeroboam (1 Kings 14:9-16)** - Jeroboam, the first king of the northern kingdom of Israel, committed sins and caused Israel to sin with his idolatry. Because of this, God pronounced through a prophet that Jeroboam’s family would be completely obliterated, and indeed, his son Abijah fell ill and died as a beginning of this pronouncement. 4. **David’s child by Bathsheba (2 Samuel **12:14**-18)** - After King David sinned by committing adultery with Bathsheba and orchestrating the death of her husband Uriah, the prophet Nathan confronted David. One consequence of his sin was that the child born to Bathsheba and David would die, which occurred shortly after the baby's birth. These instances highlight the concept of familial or generational punishment that appears in parts of the Old Testament, where the actions of an individual could have repercussions for their descendants. As a father, I don't want my children to be punished for my mistakes. My children are innocent of my mistakes.

@@norrecvizharan1177 Apparently there are actually two human creation stories: in the first one, Yahweh *does* create Eve along with Adam, like the other animals. Later in Genesis we have the rewrite, where god creates Eve from Adam's rib. It breaks my heart for child me and those who are still being taught and raised by people who believe in these harmful teachings.
Great video. Thanks! Have you considered the nature/nurture discussion? This is how I justified the "sins of the father" when I was an evangelical Christian- The punishment of children was the natural consequence of a parent's misbehavior. These ancient people noticed that if a child grew up in a household where the father was violent, the child often grew up to be violent. Or if a parent had a disease, the child often got the disease. Because they didn't know about trauma or contagion, they assumed it was a curse from god. It translated well to larger groups too- if a tribe worshiped other gods, their children also grew up to worship those gods. When death or destruction occurred in that tribe and even the little children were harmed, it was considered punishment by god for the transgressions of those first ancestors who started worshipping the other gods. Now I realize that instead of describing the actions and characteristics of a deity, this is just a way for people to make sense of challenges they face in life which don't make sense in a pre-scientific society.
I did a "go along to get along" church service this morning as it is Mother's Day. Was there any part of the sermon about mothers? Nope. But it was all about blessings from "god" if you only obey him. And those insipid "praise" songs. I LOATHE those. All glory, honor, praise, blah blah blah. I sat there almost grinding my teeth, because all the pastor said were pretty things and pretty verses. So typical to not even bring up the ugly stuff. This is one of your best videos about "god's" nature. Keep them coming, sir.
Generational punishment is what Christianity was founded on and I don't understand how so many people can overlook that so easily. The only reason we need to be "saved" by jesus' death is because of this generational curse that's been put on us from Adam & Eve's sin. This is one of the biggest problems in Christianity and I've never heard a good apologetic response for it. Thanks for the great videos! Looking forward to Acts on Thursday!
Yes! And it's a metaphysical sin/curse (meta-magical) that can only be taken away by some other metaphysical force (ie a scapegoat) or a being such as a god. This is why Christians think that man's (civil) laws and mankind's wisdom are all ineffective against such metaphysical-magical force thing that makes flowers wither. Sure it's a cool mythical story but why take it seriously? And Theists work their theistic logic in the reverse too according to their own conveniences. If someone say get's cured of a really hard to cure cancer then they will claim that it was actually god and or holy spook that worked really hard and tirelessly behind the scenes thereby sneaking out (erasing it?) the "sin" exorcising it if you will from the sickness. Makes perfect sense and don't forget to at least give some credit to those non-magic based beings that did 100% of the work towards accomplishing such goal. The Devil did or God did it, how childish. The closest non magical thing to "sin" is entropy that was always there and will be here with humanity into the foreseeable future that is until mankind (not gods) can drastically do something about it (also including the creations of mankind such as A.I. "Gods"). So what is suffering? Both types of suffering derived from the mental and physical world will be able to be eventually solved by science and technology. Albeit it looks like more time is needed.
A Very Happy Mother’s Day to your wife, Brandon and to all mothers! I notice that many of the same people who are in hearty agreement with God being able to execute generational judgment upon people are often the same ones who push back against peoples wanting justice regarding slavery, the appropriation of lands and residential schools, the internment camps and so on “My family never owned slaves! It wasn’t me that sent indigenous children to residential schools! I had nothing to do with the internment camps!” Fine - but why is God given a pass?
To be straight honest, I became a Christian because I needed love in my challenging childhood. I believed, as most easily influenced youngsters do, that JESUS was the one who really cared for me. 50 odd years down the line, I realize what nonsense this Cristian doctrine is, and what a no show JESUS has turned out to be...yet he is supposed to be the "Living God". Brandon, your videos have helped me to overcome the urge to hold onto a belief in a God that does not exist. Yes, it would be AWESOME, if our "creator" cared for each and every one of us. Imagine if we could really communicate with a real, loving, caring creator who was prepared to step into our lives, even if just to help minimize the suffering we go through, and at best, to actually accompany us through this trying, testing journey of life so that we could feel a purpose for all this, and have a sense of thriving, within the context of a real relationship with our creator. Sadly, and disappointingly as it turned out, the relationship was with an imaginary creator....just like my grandson talks to his imaginary friends. The sooner, as you are applaudibly doing, that we expose the fantasy of the Bible and the beliefs grounded thereon, the better off will be the generations ahead.....to move forward without the life impeding burden of delusion and belief in a non existent God. Keep up the incredibly good job you are doing, Brandon. Your videos are meticulously put together and the content is clearly well researched. This is SCIENCE....not SUPERSTITION 😅
I share your experience and feelings. I turned to Christ 51 years ago because of an enormous need for love and stability in my life but in the last number of years I have come up against years of evidences that speak credibly against the God of the Bible. So I am presently feeling a tremendous divide and conflict. Brandon's work and material is a blessing to me in this struggle.
@@CatDaddyGuitar The dead god is the winter season. This is when the vegetation is dead. It's symbolic, like the two crucifixions of Jesus (the sun). Goes back to Egyptian myth. The sun is crucified in Egypt = sun's crossing over the equinoctial line while going down (I will decrease). The sun is crucified at Calvary = sun's pass over the equinoctial line while going up (he must increase). The bible writers considered the earth to be the unmoving center of the world. The Zodiac signs were thought to be going around the earth.
How about the ultimate generational curse of being born into the “wrong” family? Not being the descendant of Abraham or a Christian family automatically damns the majority of mankind to eternal damnation! As if we had any control over that!! It makes no sense at all. Thank you for pointing out all the problems with this wacky “justice”. The details and inconsistencies of these religions just reinforce how ridiculous the entire manmade mythology is.
One of the worst ones is that we know Native Americans existed in the new World in the 1st century CE. It took 15 centuries for Christianity to reach them. So millions of people lived and died not know anything about Yahweh and Jesus. Christians say that belief in a god would be enough to save them. The problem is that the NT says that believing that Jesus was god and accepting him for dying on the cross for their sins is required to get to heaven. They didn’t get that information so all these people are damned to hell because they never got the message before they died because they were born in the wrong place.
@@BluStarGalaxy And then our white Christian ancestors found them, and gave them religion by massacring them and taking their land, because, you know, Divine Right from god. Very similar to what's happening to the Palestinians because of the RW arm of government.
I deconverted from about age 9 to 12. Well, it was age 9 really. But it took me a few years to fully convince myself I wasn’t going to hell! However, it’s only in recent years that I've started to learn in detail about all the moral/ethical problems in the Bible. My deconversion was mostly about looking for scientific truth and rejecting the obvious mythology.
@@SunnyDays70s Christianity is a fool's game. You have to establish a relationship with God. I came out of the delusion because l am a truth seeker and will not settle for anything but the truth.
@@ralphricart3177 Yes, people will continue to hold onto this completely vile notion of eternal conscious torment for finite "crimes." This might be the most monstrous concept ever invented by any religion. It causes suffering to many people who believe it, especially children. Unfortunately, you’re right, the idea it’s not going away anytime soon.
@@SunnyDays70s I was very young, so I don’t know how much my experience will help. But I’m happy to share. I was raised to think atheists were essentially evil, stupid, remote, and "foreign." I started to read and learn about other atheists. I found they were actually often quite intelligent, compassionate, and oddly nearby! This helped reassure me that I wasn’t alone and that my lack of belief wasn’t an aberration. So, I think my letting go of the fear of hell was a fairly intellectual process. I guess I would liken it to stepping onto an unknown bridge and you’re not sure if it’s going to collapse underneath you. Then you test it. You inspect the girders and the foundations and you gain confidence that it’s solid, actually far more solid than where you were.
I would love a follow up video of you responding to any responses you got. One of the first things I questioned was the curse that followed Adam and Eve's sin. I remember asking my mom "why do we get punished for Eve's sin even though we never did anything ourselves?" She just stayed quiet and did the right thing. She said "I don't know". And this was way before I was even a teenager. I already knew some of this made zero sense. And no one can accurately ever really give me an answer. Thank you for another great video! Watched it while getting ready for a mother's day gathering 💖
@@sundayoliver3147 thank you! She is very honest with me and although I might not share her beliefs anymore, she never judges me. She beautiful in so many ways.
I always find it funny/ironic when religious texts say something like: "For then disbelievers will have their chests pray open and their hearts ripped out, for then the world have not seen such wickedness"... , and the very next words that follow are "... for God is all just and merciful". I guess this form of writting is more prone to islam but still it boggles my mind.
Only a malicious monster can con so many gullible people to give him worship not deserve. Fear and intimidation to force compliance is neither fair or just but appears to work for this creature who gets off on blood, war and burnt flesh.
I know this video was posted a good half year ago, but the bit at the end with John 9:1-3 gut punched me in a very personal way and I felt I needed to comment. Specifically the part about God claiming responsibility for how we are born becasue I was born mute. It wasn't something anyone anticipated during my fetal development and it wasn't something that could be "fixed," for lack of a better term, after. I was also raised in a fundamentalist Christian church run by Jerry Prevo in 90s, who, for context, was the head of Liberty University between August of 2020 and March of 2023, before being moved to a Southern Baptist church down in Florida. The issue of God taking responsibility for knowing and creating us with intention is why I feel I need to respond here. I remember when I was 16 and going through a really dark place in my life asking my youth pastor why God made me the way I was. I asked if God "knew me in the womb," wanted what was best for me," "had a purpose for each of us," and "loved us unconditionally," why he chose to create me *knowing* the physical, mental, and emotional pain my disability would cause me. I was self harming at the time, I was suicidal, isolated, depressed, felt broken, useless, and I was clinging to the faith I was raised in trying desperately to find meaning in it all. I wanted to know how God could be good when every waking moment was misserable for me because of something *he* ostensibly did to me with conscious foreknowledge of it's ramifications. Why would God want me to fight with the decision to end the life he gave me or spend it hating myself if he loved me. I was given the argument that it served "his greater purpose" and how "God never gives us more than we can handle." I was also told it would make me a strong mother, which made me feel like somehow my ability to give birth was tied to my value as a person. I think the most insulting answers were both "God can use the quietest among us to send the loudest messages" and "Finding the right man to speak for you." None of wich addressed the severe depression, anxiety, suicidal ideations, fear, or anger I wanted support and answers for. I can't say that one thing alone is what jump started my deconstruction, or whatever term is appropriate, but after that I got angry whenever people brought up the idea of this loving god and I always had the same questions. To this day it stops a lot of people in their tracks for a few seconds while they try to figure out how to do the theological gymnastics to turn my existence and the things I'm not getting into here that I have suffered through into some example of "God's Plan." If my life as it has played out has been God's plan, God is a sadist and he's evil. No. The truth is, there's just no God. No Satan. There's just chance, biology, and humanity. Sorry for the novel. That point just...really struck a sensitive spot for me.
I always thought it was unfair that god looked down on cains offering with no explanation. Or hating easua (spelling) in the womb but loved Jacob, with no explanation of why. Makes no sense to me.
9:46 My religious aunt used this line as part of her reason for being a forced birther (pro life). I was taken aback since thousands of kids die every year. Why don't they get a chance at life? The existence of childhood cancer and natural miscarriage directly contradicts this line of thinking.
Whether minds are permanently changed or not, educating oneself is being prepared to be honest with oneself and see current beliefs as "standing on pudding".
How many times, when we see misfortune, we say, "There but for the grace of God go I"? But what does that mean, really? That the person or persons who have suffered or are suffering misfortune don't have God's grace, and we do, because we have escaped that particular fate? And if they don't have God's grace, does that mean they deserve what has happened to them? There are many situations that I could say, "There but for the LACK of God's grace go I". There, but for the LACK of God's grace I could have a happy marriage, there but for the LACK of God's grace I would have been accepted by my peers in school and not bullied, there but for the LACK of God's grace I would know what it is like to live in a nice subdivision with a house everyone admires, there but for the LACK of God's grace I would be financially comfortable instead of facing old age alone on a limited income . . . the list could go on and on. I used to think that I was cursed as a child because I was not like my peers and they knew it and they made sure I knew it too, that I was not one of them, could never be one of them, that I had no real right to be on the same planet as them, but there was nothing they could do about that short of killing me (which they knew was not allowed) so instead they made my life miserable. Not sure what the problem was, it was never really spelled out but it was most likely some form of autism/Aspergers. And hell yes, that knowledge affected my spiritual life and my relationship with God/Jesus. There but for the LACK of God's grace I would have been born normal and my life far different. Or maybe it was because of some sin I committed? I spent years searching for answers and found none, at least not in Christianity, not in the Bible. And I definitely did not find comfort in the story of Jesus' sacrifice on the cross. On the contrary! If God allowed THAT to happen to his only begotten and beloved son, then why should I expect any better treatment from him?
It’s teachings like these that lead people to think terribly of humanity. Ultimately, I think part of the reason that so many of our systems fail to support people at large is because people believe that humans are undeserving of a system that endeavors to unambiguously provide support. Essentially, “That’s not how god did it, and who are we to say we know better or can do better than god.”
The ancients who wrote all this stuff made their god so OP that it broke the entire narrative and they have been patching, revising, and retconning ever since. God's hypocrisy, written into the character by people with their own theological agendas, ironically came to be widely known when the early modern Protestants insisted that everyone be able to interpret their own bible, allowing people to truly have their eyes opened by seeing what this Yahweh is all about.
I think this ancient line of thinking may have come from trying to find an explanation for why young babies and children die at young ages. They haven't yet have a change to sin to deserve such a suffering, so "it just MUST have been their parents who sinned".
@@ralphricart3177That's just wrong. Don't talk nonsense. Adam and Eve ate the fruit of knowledge. "Knowing good and evil, knowing like God." Since then we know how "good" "God" is. Satan in the Bibel killed maybe 20 Humans. With the permission of "God". The family of Job and the servants of his family. "God" killed millions in the flood alone. Well done "God", good work...
Yes this is the biggest issue I always had, never known if you were forgiven, can God unforgive you for whatever reason, how can you know? massive anxiety there, how can he judge us all the same when we have different brain chemistry different way of reasoning and mental disorders and a lack of understanding. it just drive you insane because its not something you can ever know! so the system just seems from my perspective F***
Imagine if you knew as much about death as Jesus knew on the cross. It wouldn't be as scary now would it? Here you are on the earth clearly and unambiguously chatting it up with god/yourself, shooting miracles left and right out of your pinky, profound parable stories (well not that profound), even raising the dead(!). Humans don't have all those conveniences and yet they are the ones hell bound with the original sin? And didn't Jesus took away all and or some sins of the world (assuming that it was a sin sacrifice)? What the hell is going on here?! For heavens sake no more machinations!!! Where is the proof that Jesus took away all the sins of the world??? Signs and Wonders? Hello? But instead we get this: ...well actually (like a door to door snake oil salesman) you must accept Jesus as your savior and then (oh lolz) your sins are forgiven. Ok fine but where is the proof? Spiritual this, spiritual that. If everything happens in the metaphysical world or realm(?) then why should the physical world care about it? As far as we know there could of been 77 more "wars" in heaven and no one down here would know about it. The simplest solution to the heaven problem (and altogether sins/gods etc) is just to ignore it, let it do it 's own thing and let earth (and this universe) do it's own thing as well. Instead of working out our salvation (whatever that is) the human being should work on their own hedonic wave the ups and downs of their own lives (I just heard god stepping out for some more popcorn).
"Showing himself would interfere with our free will!" Quite the opposite, in fact (beyond the fact that anything and everything he does in the world interferes with 'someone's' free will by definition). By deliberately withholding vital information from us, he actively prevents us from making informed decisions about how we live our lives that impact our "eternal" destination, heaven or hell (or purgatory, depending on whether or not you believe in that). By actively choosing to remain "hidden," Yaweh has condemned the vast majority of people who have ever, do, or will ever exist to an eternity of conscious torture (whether that idea makes sense at all anyway) based on nothing more than "his" whim. Tell me again how the deity described in the bible ISN'T the most heinous, abominable monster the human imagination has ever conjured.
The real, raging, and existing BATTLE to the DEATH on planet Earth is still ATHEISM and RELIGIONS versus JESUS CHRIST and his GOD and FATHER Atheists obviously don't respect and value their own lives, dignities, and existence... not bothered at all and just don't care even if their lies and false claims that GOD and Gods don't exist and the BIBLE too is just a worthless book of lies, myths, fictions, fantasies, and fairy tales bring them nothing but their own dishonor, disgrace, downfall and ETERNAL DEATHS, worthless and useless dusts on earth forever. The lives, dignities, and existence of human beings are clearly of no worth, value, and importance to Mormons, Jehovah's Witnesses, SDAs, Catholics, Baptists, Methodists, Born Again Christians, Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, and fanatics of all kinds of Religions who are obviously shameless and remorseless even if their Satanic hatred, arrogance, cruelties, lies, deceits, and false teachings and doctrines about "hellfire", "immortality of the souls", "afterlife", "Armageddon", "Trinity", "rapture", and "reincarnation" offend, hurt, insult, humiliate, and degrade the lives and dignities of all human beings including that of their own families and neighbors and cause their humiliations, degradations, sufferings, pains, griefs, sickness, and DEATHS. GOD KNOWS that lowly, ordinary, kind, and respectful persons on earth who willingly submit to the authority of his SON and obey his teachings too about the "Kingdom of God" and "Resurrection of the Dead" clearly written in the BIBLE, in Matthew 28: 18, Luke 4: 43, and John 11: 25, 26 will definitely bring themselves honor and his favor and reward of ETERNAL LIFE and existence on earth without sufferings, pains, griefs, sickness, and death as written in Revelation 21: 3, 4. GOD KNOWS that all human beings will just return to dusts after their deaths just like the animals as written in Ecclesiastes 3: 19, 20 but he knows too that his loving, kind, considerate, and respectful Worshippers who died recently and thousands of years ago like Abel, Noah, Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, Job, Naomi, Ruth, King David, Jesus Christ's Followers and disciples, and many others will not remain as worthless dusts on earth forever, Instead, in the right and proper time, he will let his Son, Jesus Christ RESURRECT them back to life so they can all happily and peacefully live and exist on earth forever as submissive and obedient subjects of the "KINGDOM of GOD" or His Kingdom and fully enjoy his and his Christ's eternal love, kindness, goodness, generosities, compassions, favors, and blessings for eternity under the loving and kind rulership, guidance, and protection of Jesus Christ as his Chosen King and Ruler of the heavens and the earth as written in Revelation 11: 15.
Brandon, your logic outsmarts the fanciful irrationality of the Bible!! Another super interesting and informative video. Thank you for helping us too see beneath the layer of deception that lines a book which speaks of a cruel, uncaring creator. We are for sure LUCKY, to be given some help in this challenging life, by this " all loving" God. Not my kind of loving father who I would want to spend eternity with !!!!
Yes, fanciful irrationality, layers of deception, cruel uncaring creator. Yes, not my kind of loving father either. This God of the Bible does not delight in cuddly babies and toddlers and vibrant playful little children, he only delights in himself and in being obeyed and feared with stuffy religious edicts and regimented observances.
I’ve been here since the beginning of your Mindshift channel, and this is one of the best videos you have done. The Bible is what caused me to completely deconvert. I specifically remembered the contradiction in Deuteronomy, and I’m glad you addressed it!
It's difficult to know if a perfect being would get angry. However it is much easier to understand why an all knowing all powerful being wouldn't experience anger.
An all-powerful being wouldn't feel anger, either. The all-powerful can only have things go as they intend. Failure is one of the few things they can't really do. There are no necessary steps before achieving a goal, only unnecessary, desired steps invented by them before getting something else they want. Give them two coins and they can roll 3 dice. etc
What would the qualifications be for anger against something morally reprehensible? It's not necessarily dependent on surprise or fear, but anyone with moral integrity will get angry when encountering morally bankrupt people/situations. Judges in trials have all the power (no fear) and encounter similar situations constantly (no surprise), but can absolutely and should still feel anger towards morally deprived actions. I think this idea can even extend beyond moral arguments into social arguments and beyond, so I don't agree with your point.
@@user-kd2nf2io7t First off, plenty of stuff Bible God gets angry over is far from someone being morally bankrupt. As the video points out being cursed for the sins of those who came before is a thing. Also the Bible describes babies as covered in sin & wicked from the womb. And as everyone knows sin makes Bible God very angry. And worshipping the wrong God which really gets God's anger trigger going is hardly an act of moral bankruptcy, regardless of what biblical propaganda insists. Do you really think everyone involved in other faiths is really just morally bankrupt? If you are Christian a "yes" isn't a surprise, but still that doesn't mean it's true. As far as a judge scenario goes, it appears you're underestimating the complexity involved in the emotional experience of the job. Surprise + fear definitely factors into their reactions of moral indignation when certain types of cases are presented in their courtroom. Moral indignation essentially represents a sophisticated emotional defense mechanism protecting collective ethical standards. Suprise is there no matter how little it's felt or shown . And comes in such forms as; sudden recognition of a significant moral violation, perceived breach of fundamental ethical principles, unexpected reveling of cruelty . This creates psychological triggers via violation of core human values from the perceived intentional harm to vulnerable individuals. Again you can't forget the argument you're making involves two incomparable positions. One of a very limited human perception vs a supposedly all knowing all powerful being. The more one controls the final outcome the less anger is even a potential to be invoked. And the Bible God has a narrative giving him full control. The judge has very limited control or knowledge in comparison.
@@FoursWithin I see your point and I may not have offered enough clarification around mine. I'm claiming that anger is far more complex than fear + surprise as you originally stated. Yes, I would agree that those can factor into anger, but aren't always necessary for anger. I think any relational being, independent of status, has the capacity to make claims. That can drive anger from a number of causes. I used moral issues since they offer a simple example. I don't think this is exclusive to Christianity however, but extends to any worldview that makes claims. Basically, what I would argue is that the only strictly necessary conditions for anger are a perceived wrong and a need for retribution. The problem then becomes justifying the punishment for the wrongdoing. This video argues the justification is not there, whereas Abrahamic religions would argue it is. From there, it gets even more complicated diving into the original languages, context, and purpose of each instance of wrongdoing and punishment. That is well beyond my original point though.
I`m with Brandon I can`t justify any of this generational punishment nonsense but I`m totally up for hearing Christians try to answer this challenge! In the end I think all Christians can say is ``His Ways are Higher than Ours`` which of course isn`t an answer.

As I force myself to plow through the Bible this year, I'm finding I have the same questions I did even as a kid -- and no believers willing or able to answer them. The injustice of generational curses is one of them. The fact that the Bible argues against free will is another. The point about Jesus and the blind man really galls me. You get the same thing with Lazarus: Jesus deliberately let him die so that God would be glorified in resurrecting him. That's horrible. And it's exactly the same reason God kept hardening Pharaoh's heart (i.e., overriding his free will) so he wouldn't let the Hebrews go: Inflicting plagues and killing all the firstborn to show everyone how mighty he is was more important to him than just getting his people out of there. He had to be glorified, no matter how high the cost. The God of the Bible is a self-absorbed sadistic monster.
The blind, deaf, and dumb are winter (darkness symbols). At the pass over from winter to spring, all of these problems are healed. Every one sees, hears, and talks. There is no such thing as physical death in the bible. The bible is a book of symbols and no one, I mean absolutely no one, lives longer than one solar year.
No one should force their way through the Bible. It should be taken slowly. And if you are struggling, humbly ask for Gods help. The story of Saint Lazarus is a beautiful one with so much depth. Christ was walking to his own death when he went to resurrect Lazarus. It was to show that resurrection was literally possible. To have such a strong miracle so recently done and still have the Jews call for Christ’s crucifixion. I don’t quite understand how the Pharaoh was forced to do the things he was. Not sure how your claim that his free will was being override? He was asked every time by Moses if the Jewish people could be released
@@MarcusHauf-wn9eg Read your Bible. Before Moses goes to speak with Pharaoh, God specifically tells Moses that God Himself will harden pharaohs heart. Then when asked he is willing and then God hardens his heart to make sure he got to show how big his dick was and kill a bunch of people. God wouldn’t allow it not to happen this way. Therefore there was no free will on Pharaohs part.
Today's video was enthralling, already watched it twice 🤩 I've tried using this argument before but I don't have a good way with words so I really appreciate seeing it put in this thorough way. However, I highly doubt we'll see many theists defending this in the comments. This is one of those things that even apologists avoid or just glance over. And generally they just throw a version of the "anything god does is perfect cause he is perfect" rebuttal and there's not a lot to go on with then 😅
Thanks so much Brandon as always. Been hearing most of your vids twice lately because they come out early and I let your voice soothe me back to sleep, then when I wake up I actually listen. PS - not from this video, but you said recently “Why did you make me if you don’t want me to be me” (or similar) and I was just going to tell you that I’m probably going to use that in a song. Enjoy your family today!! Pamper the moms!
Brandon you continue to crank out bangers. It’s so clean and matter of fact how it’s presented. This one is going in my playlist arsenal for sure. When I can’t articulate it I’ll pull this out and and just stand back while their brain short circuits trying to make find an excuse. I also really love how you very deftly slip in the counter argument ahead of time and dismantle that in such a simple way is astounding. I’ve said before and and I’ll sure many times again but the way you deliver this info with a compassion for the one who believes it and almost pleading for them to explain it, or at least meet you in a place that makes them really consider the questions is simply brilliant.

In verse 12 it says, “and because you have done worse than your fathers, for behold, every one of you follows his stubborn, evil will, refusing to listen to me.” So it’s not just because of their ancestors but they also did what their ancestors did but worse apparently.

Great video! And one of those arguments where I expect apologists to respond with the usual "His ways are higher" cop out. 08:45 not only that contradicts every single "free will" argument, but we can clearly see it's not how it works in reality.
Love to you, your wife, and family on this Mother's Day. May the Flying Spaghetti Monster caress them with his noodly appendage.
I never thought about it, but generational curses is a pretty good argument against the whole "God gave us free will." thing.
Off topic, but another good response to the "free will" argument that I think deserves more attention is this:
Sure, free will matters, but *whose* free will? The victim or the oppressors? When someone does, that person loses free will (arguably the most valuable freedom which is the right to life)
Apologists would have a comeback to this, even other people in general, because even if you have a bunch of disadvantages you can "control" how you react and still choose even if it's between only horrible choices, it's why so many people say we choose to go to hell like it isn't pre determined by non-belief among other things God doesn't like.
@@bluester7177 I think the problem mentioned is not meant to be the existence of free will, but about God valuing it.

It's difficult to answer if a perfect being would get angry. However it is much easier to understand why an all knowing all powerful being wouldn't get angry.

When I pointed out to a group of Christians that their God does indeed punish people for the sins of others, they argued me to the ground that he does not. The simple fact that a thriving Christian apologetics industry exists tells us more about their God than we ever need to know.
If the Bible were the answer to all questions and the handbook for living it's claimed to be, Christians wouldn't need apologetics.

When I was a Christian, I was of the opinion that fathers shouldn't pay for what their sons did nor should the sons pay for what their fathers did. Everybody must bear the consequences of their own actions. To justify that, I used Jeremiah 31:29-30.
Jeremiah 31:29-30 NASB2020
[29] “In those days they will no longer say, ‘The fathers have eaten sour grapes, But it is the children’s teeth that have become blunt.’ [30] But everyone will die for his own wrongdoing; each person who eats the sour grapes, his own teeth will become blunt.
Here are a few examples:
"The more you look into it, the less sense it makes" I'm glad that the internet existed at the same time I began looking into Christianity. Otherwise....yea lol

It's almost as if either he was lazy, didn't quite have the power, or he just outright didn't think females were worth the effort. A total sloth at best, or already misogynistic right out the gate (the third option being the most likely considering that's how bronze-age humans thought-processes were like at the time of the bible's creation).
@@norrecvizharan1177 Apparently there are actually two human creation stories: in the first one, Yahweh *does* create Eve along with Adam, like the other animals. Later in Genesis we have the rewrite, where god creates Eve from Adam's rib. Just another little way to enforce the rule of patriarchy, the assurance that females are inferior, lack judgment, and deserve to be owned and bossed around by men. I don't think that has gotten us a very beautiful world, but I would say that the human writers of the bible made sure they had a god after their image.
Even when I was a totally brainwashed Christian, I had a problem with the idea of "punishing the children for the sins of the fathers". That idea is so illogical, so unfair, and so unjust, that not even the deep fog of Christian brainwashing could fully suppress my doubt about it.
I was seven when I realized the contradiction between what I was told to do and what I saw god doing. I spent the next 30 years trying to make it make sense, trying to walk the line of loving and forgiving and seeing god not be loving and forgiving, killing children and women and doing horrifying things because "he could". Saying I thought about it before leaving xtianity is an understatement. Growing up in a brained washed family and environment turns off your ability to logic and I'm so happy that I fought against it and reclaimed my logic, my values and the realization that I am better than this god.

There's typically a bunch of squirming and mental gymnastics involved in any attempt they make.

There is No word of the non existent god, it’s just Jews stealing idea’s from other older religions and muddling it up to create what was the latest attempt to subdue the populace for the benefit of their ruling Roman masters.
There’s nothing special or good about Christianity, you could have gleaned the same information the same way the Jews did by simply checking out the older religions and directly plagiarising some Greek writings.
@@trythelight8319 - Try questions that don't have anything to do with the Bible. I like to try questions relating to modern culture, such as do you believe that white people today owe black people reparations for the things our ancestors did to their ancestors? Or do you think that modern Americans owe a debt to Native Americans for the Trail of Tears or the Wounded Knee massacre or similar event?
With most Christian's political leanings, I get a quick no. I then ask why and they will almost always reply with some form of 'I'm not responsible for the actions of previous generations' argument. Once they make such a pronouncement it makes it exceedingly hard to justify all the generational sin and group punishment scriptures in the Bible.
Also, remember it's not so much about winning or losing but more about trying to help them see the logical fallacies that religion is filled with. In a sense, its about cranking up their level of cognitive dissonance and making them confront the hypocrisy.

Dave Allen: First Day At School🎭
I don't know if this is taught often in calvinism or if it was just something my dad/pastor believed, but the story of Jesus healing the blind man since birth was not only a justification for being anti-abortion but also "proved" total depravity.
In their eyes, life begins at conception, and all humans are sinners. This meant I was taught that a baby could sin in utero....... imagine sincerely believing that. That the child you chose to bring into the world was able to be so sinful as to be deserving of hell before they were even BORN.

I notice that many of the same people who are in hearty agreement with God being able to execute generational judgment upon people are often the same ones who push back against peoples wanting justice regarding slavery, the appropriation of lands and residential schools, the internment camps and so on
“My family never owned slaves! It wasn’t me that sent indigenous children to residential schools! I had nothing to do with the internment camps!”
Fine - but why is God given a pass?

It is also unfair and evil for people to force other people into the type of existence that they might hate existing in.
Good point!

My Christian brothers response to this was . “This is just bullshit, I don’t believe it”
Nothing to say but that
Haha his cognitive dissonance must be going beserk😅
Ignoring the issue is the easiest way to deal with it.
Another amazing video Brandon!! Your videos have been helping me so much in my deconversion process. Thank you so much.
Happy to help!
Great points. I can't believe I was a christian. I believed blindly
Good job buddy. I KNOW you are right about this.
Many thanks!
Nevwr caught a video this early. Yay. Love the videos man. Have helped in my own deconversion.
Thank you so much!
The real, raging, and existing BATTLE to the DEATH on planet Earth
is still
ATHEISM and RELIGIONS versus JESUS CHRIST and his GOD and FATHER
Atheists
obviously don't respect and value their own lives, dignities, and existence...
not bothered at all and just don't care even if their lies and false claims that GOD and Gods don't exist
and the BIBLE too is just a worthless book of lies, myths, fictions, fantasies, and fairy tales
bring them nothing but their own dishonor, disgrace, downfall and ETERNAL DEATHS, worthless and useless dusts on earth forever.
The lives, dignities, and existence of human beings are clearly of no worth, value, and importance
to Mormons, Jehovah's Witnesses, SDAs, Catholics, Baptists, Methodists, Born Again Christians, Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, and fanatics of all kinds of Religions
who
are obviously shameless and remorseless even if their Satanic hatred, arrogance, cruelties, lies, deceits, and false teachings and doctrines about "hellfire", "immortality of the souls", "afterlife", "Armageddon", "Trinity", "rapture", and "reincarnation"
offend, hurt, insult, humiliate, and degrade the lives and dignities of all human beings including that of their own families and neighbors
and cause their humiliations, degradations, sufferings, pains, griefs, sickness, and DEATHS.
GOD KNOWS
that lowly, ordinary, kind, and respectful persons on earth who willingly submit to the authority of his SON
and obey his teachings too about the "Kingdom of God" and "Resurrection of the Dead"
clearly written in the BIBLE, in Matthew 28: 18, Luke 4: 43, and John 11: 25, 26
will
definitely bring themselves honor and his favor and reward of ETERNAL LIFE and existence on earth without sufferings, pains, griefs, sickness, and death as written in Revelation 21: 3, 4.
GOD KNOWS
that all human beings will just return to dusts after their deaths just like the animals
as written in Ecclesiastes 3: 19, 20
but he knows too that his loving, kind, considerate, and respectful Worshippers who died recently and thousands of years ago like Abel, Noah, Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, Job, Naomi, Ruth, King David, Jesus Christ's Followers and disciples, and many others will not remain as worthless dusts on earth forever,
Instead,
in the right and proper time,
he will let his Son, Jesus Christ RESURRECT them back to life so they can all happily and peacefully live and exist on earth forever as submissive and obedient subjects of the "KINGDOM of GOD" or His Kingdom
and fully enjoy his and his Christ's eternal love, kindness, goodness, generosities, compassions, favors, and blessings for eternity
under the loving and kind rulership, guidance, and protection of Jesus Christ as his Chosen King and Ruler of the heavens and the earth as written in Revelation 11: 15.
Thankyou Brandon for studying a preparing on these topics . You are doing a great service for many of us.😊
Glad to help!
Brandon only paints himself into a corner.
Well said.

More baseless assertions.
Tbf - we understand you can’t back up your claims so not surprising you haven’t even tried, not once 😂
Glad you enjoyed it!
Your prodigious intellectual talents are spellbinding, Mr. B. The work you put into this channel IS making the world better. Thank you so much.
Too kind! Thank you very much
I’ve been here since the beginning of your Mindshift channel, and this is one of the best videos you have done. The Bible is what caused me to completely deconvert. I specifically remembered the contradiction in Deuteronomy, and I’m glad you addressed it!
Thanks so much for that!
So true! Thank you for spelling this out so clearly!
It's difficult to know if a perfect being would get angry. However it is much easier to understand why an all knowing all powerful being wouldn't experience anger.
An all-powerful being wouldn't feel anger, either. The all-powerful can only have things go as they intend. Failure is one of the few things they can't really do. There are no necessary steps before achieving a goal, only unnecessary, desired steps invented by them before getting something else they want.
Give them two coins and they can roll 3 dice. etc
@@archapmangcmg
Yes, I agree they couldn't feel it.
I would include feeling it as part of the experience of anger.
@@user-kd2nf2io7t
First off, plenty of stuff Bible God gets angry over is far from someone being morally bankrupt.
As the video points out being cursed for the sins of those who came before is a thing.
Also the Bible describes babies as covered in sin & wicked from the womb. And as everyone knows sin makes Bible God
very angry.
As far as a judge scenario goes,
it appears you're underestimating the complexity involved in the emotional experience of the job.
Surprise + fear definitely factors into their reactions of moral indignation when certain types of cases are presented in their courtroom.
Moral indignation essentially represents a sophisticated emotional defense mechanism protecting collective ethical standards.
Suprise is there no matter how little it's felt or shown .
And comes in such forms as;
sudden recognition of a
significant moral violation,
perceived breach of
fundamental ethical principles,
unexpected reveling of cruelty .
Nobody does this better than you. Thank you for existing.
I`m with Brandon I can`t justify any of this generational punishment nonsense but I`m totally up for hearing Christians try to answer this challenge! In the end I think all Christians can say is ``His Ways are Higher than Ours`` which of course isn`t an answer.

Thank you!
Hi, morning! I've usally wondered about this but didn't have the space to even question it. Appreciate your videos and space for this openess!
Glad it was helpful!
Dave Allen: First Day At School🎭 “If I could stop a person from raping a child, I would. That’s the difference between me and your God.” Tracie Harris
@@MarcusHauf-wn9eg
Read your Bible.
Great video!
Thank you!
I love your videos!
Thanks so much!
Send me the song! And thank you!
Well said. Brandon is a genius, honest and accurate.
That n you for this level of thoughtful feedback!
7:35 "It's actually a prevention program, because people who are born into wicked societies, they will grow up to do wicked things"
So why didn't God stop all this with Cain? All he needed to do is make him childless, but he not only gave him protection but gave him a whole society to be a father of...
I never thought of this you’re right!
You know damn well no one's going to successfully justify all of that atrociousness...but I'd sure like to hear people try.

No problem, Brandon. Love what u do!
Great video! Thanks 👌
My pleasure!
I’m not a Christian but I just wanted to correct you on Jeremiah 16. In verse 12 it says, “and because you have done worse than your fathers, for behold, every one of you follows his stubborn, evil will, refusing to listen to me.” So it’s not just because of their ancestors but they also did what their ancestors did but worse apparently.
I saw that by reading beyond the verses Brandon had read.
I work at a church on Sundays, a position I hold because I was looking for a part time job and nothing more, and I enjoy listening to these videos after the sermon and I am on my way home. It’s a beautiful contrast and puts, I think, a much starker perspective on the, what I feel is, absurdity of this book and the God character presented in it.

Great video! And one of those arguments where I expect apologists to respond with the usual "His ways are higher" cop out.
08:45 not only that contradicts every single "free will" argument, but we can clearly see it's not how it works in reality. Countless people have committed atrocities over the millennia, so no: god does not eliminate children before they can grow up to do harm.

The excuse I’ve heard is God probably had the baby in a deep sleep and did not torture him. Him sleeping and not waking up would be reason enough to cause David to worry. That they refuse to believe God would torture an innocent baby…
