Perfect timing for a review, just bought a Silver Pigeon 3 Sporter 32" secondhand. Can't wait to get my hands on it now, especially after this great review and just shoot it!!
I have a silver pigeon 1 field and a friend has a SP3 sporter, we swapped guns for a couple of stands at the last shoot and both of our main observations came down to the felt thump being more on my SP1 field and how much smoother his SP3 felt due to its weight. Then the usual chat about barrel lengths as mine is a 28” and his 30” and how I found his sporter a little slower. Neither of us shot better or worse with either gun other than I’ve only been shooting 10 months and he’s been shooting 30 years. Thank you for producing these videos.

I enjoyed your video on the Beretta Silver Pigeon 3; I have the Beretta 686, I use for skeet and sporting clays and would not mind stepping up to the 3, especially in 20 gauge for skeet. Keep up the good work.
I have a 28" 687 SP3 Sporter and 30" 692. It looks like somehow I like my 687 more than 692 despite 692 Steelium Plus barrels with long forcing cones and about 300 grams extra weight. Somehow 687 has just less felt recoil. Of course it is a faster gun with shorter barrels and lighter weight as 692 is a bit smoother in movement. The stock dimensions are identical, 692 has B-Fast adjustable stock which means it's drop is 38/60 when comb is lowered and I ordered my 687 with the same stock dimensions but without adjustable comb. Both guns are balanced perfectly on the hinge pin and love them both.
While my old gun was in the shop (SV10 slight crack in the tang behind the safety) I borrowed a SP3 from West Kent Shooting school, was a slight downgrade but was more than adequate for the job, anyone that tells you that you NEED more than that as a gun is plainly wrong. Shot 150 that day in practice and it was perfect. Cracking first gun for people to get, second hand is even better deal as they are built really well and you get some quality deals. Highly recommend a Beretta Silver Pigeon III to novices and pro's alike!
The 686/687 series of guns are such a mainstay for Beretta. I'd like to get one for my daughter's first shotgun. Unlike some others, replacement stocks are inexpensive enough so it could grow with her
Like the silver pigeon but prefer my browning b525 sl grey laminate I purchased from you traveled from fakenham Norfolk all the way to your shop as at the time you where the only place I could find that had it in stock and my daughters boyfriend purchased one aswell and very happy with them.

That Beretta Silver Pigeon is stunning!!! Years ago my Grandad had passed away and I was the only one in the family that had an interest in Firearms. And my Uncle was the only male and latter on I had called my uncle and asked is it possible that I could make a deal to obtain that shotgun that was a beautiful with hand engraving with gold inlayed with game birds that my Grandad had??? My uncle told me that a Grandson which has absolutely had NO interest in hunting nor firearms had convinced my Grandmother to give it to him and just after he bought a boat, I think he sold the shotgun and bought that boat!!! I was stound by that, because this Grandson (which was not a grandson by blood) The mere fact was, I was the only grandson by blood, I lived with my Grandad for many years and we both enjoyed the whole concepts and respect of firearms since I was 3 years old and me and my Grandad did everything together, fishing and hunting game birds, field testing on different calibers for everyone to include Thompson Center Fire Arms and others!!! That Grandson stool my heritage!!! Boy, If I won that " Beretta Silver Pigeon 3 " I would cherish it!!! Thank you and Liked#268 and Subscribed!!!

Thanks for the informative review, the original silver pigeon 3 is what started my life long obsession with silver pigeons so its reintroduction is a good thing in my opinion, but I must admit I agree a tradition chequered panels would have been more to my liking, like on the silver pigeon one classic versions however won't be a deal breaker for many.
I started shooting with a Silver Pigeon many years ago and over time upgraded to the 691, however the silver Pigeon still has something as I have bought the .410 which is a great gun and am looking at to add either a 28 bore or 20 bore to my collection.
SP1 & 3 are on my shortlist to try, before I make my make my final decision on my first shotgun purchase. Looking for something that's going to last rather than replace a year down the line.

got a silver pigeon 1 myself and is probably the best competition gun that wont cost an arm and a leg, definitely top for price per performance and feel too.
@@MR12GAUGE can get nicer wood on miroku too but would also have to sell a few kidneys to get one and the 38s aren't all choked unless you go for the sporter versions,

I love this gun a really want to purchase one as my 1st shotgun. What is the easiest way to tell the new model from the old? Seems like it’s the gold logo on the old model that’s the giveaway but I don’t know if that’s just that individual gun
The engraving will tell you if the gun is a new model or not. The new models feature game scenes that show a pheasant in flight and a partridge all surrounded with floral scroll. There is no gold on the new silver pigeon 3 only the trigger 😊

Tried and tested the 680 series actions, that scroll work on the SP3 looks surprisingly pleasant for the money! A 694 vs Browning Ultra XS Pro video would be good, similar price and both clay focused... 😉👍

I had one of the early SP3 Game guns bought in late 03. Shot with it for twelve years, and it was the only gun i have ever sold for more than i bought it for new! It had a exceptional well figured stock but looking back it did not fit me perfectly, the comb was too low and the LOP was a little short. I guess i would have been better with the SP3 sporter.
I have a US Market Silver Pigeon III Sporting in a 2 barrel 28/410 set with a EELL wood upgrade. Receiver was made just prior to the changeover to the 4 axis laser so it's a bit plain compared to the later model. Stock fit is quite notable, DO NOT pay attention to the dimensions provided by Beretta because they indicate a lower comb than what comes on the gun. This is a Beretta with a Browning Fit. It is an exact match for the fit on my 1992 Browning Sporting Clays Lightning. As that Browning is the gun that provided me with my first 23, then 24, then 25 in Skeet the fit of my Silver Pigeon III is perfection for me. BTW, both 20 and 12 Gauge 686's wear stocks with adjustable combs. Because a 686 Sporting stock is a bit too low in the comb for me. Note what works for me is 35/49
I own a 1981 beretta 687s, can I shoot steel cartridges? If not how can I upgrade so that I can? Apart from buying a newer gun! Great videos, keep em coming!
With the gun being a 1981 model (I thought that the 687 did not come out until about 1983/4) it is going to be fixed choke. If it is choked 1/4 and 1/2 then I recommend having the top barrel eased to 3/8 and then having it steel shot proofed. All no problem with a Beretta. I hope this helps, kind regards, Matt

I have always been a browning fan but wanted a beretta after trying several as all the guys I shoot with have them, I bought a 686e which I've modified to suit me ie mid bead and adjustable trigger and I now shoot it all the time, I really like the look of the sp3 and would definitely have a look at one when the time comes for an upgrade, I'm now looking for new chokes if I ordered them from you would you post them to me.

Shoot an SP1 that was bought s/h having done next to no work. Can't fault it. Would like better wood and maybe an adjustable stock though. Looking at a Yildiz pro sporter at similar money. Any chance of a head to head review?

While the Vittoria is designed for ladies, would it work well for a youth to learn on? Or what Beretta would you recommend for a youngster to pick up as their first gun?

Agreed, they set the benchmark for performance/quality to price, i have an mk10 grade 3 comp sporter that cost 200 pounds less than a base 686.... says it all
Bought a new SP3, I have an old SP5 and so I wanted a steel proofed gun, and it’s been utter rubbish. Finish is peeling and flaking off the wood (the new gloss finish), the ejectors were out of time and the wood to metal fit is laughable. Also the new engraving looks good but feels rough and unfinished. Safe to say I’ll be getting rid of it.

My first gun - can’t go wrong still get it out for days on the pigeons!

I have an older 686 Special, been looking for an upgrade after watching this review I will need to look at the silver Pigeon!

Owned an SP in the past. The 30 inch one I had balanced lovely. Great gun to learn to shoot gun down.

Better than a miroku? You can get an mk38 for less than a base 686 and the 38 is an olympic gun

As that Browning is the gun that provided me with my first 23, then 24, then 25 in Skeet the fit of my Silver Pigeon III is perfection for me. BTW, both 20 and 12 Gauge 686's wear stocks with adjustable combs. Because a 686 Sporting stock is a bit too low in the comb for me. Note what works for me is 35/49

I own a 1981 beretta 687s, can I shoot steel cartridges? If not how can I upgrade so that I can? Apart from buying a newer gun!

With the gun being a 1981 model (I thought that the 687 did not come out until about 1983/4) it is going to be fixed choke. If it is choked 1/4 and 1/2 then I recommend having the top barrel eased to 3/8 and then having it steel shot proofed. All no problem with a Beretta. I hope this helps, kind regards, Matt

I have always been a browning fan but wanted a beretta after trying several as all the guys I shoot with have them, I bought a 686e which I've modified to suit me ie mid bead and adjustable trigger and I now shoot it all the time, I really like the look of the sp3 and would definitely have a look at one when the time comes for an upgrade, I'm now looking for new chokes if I ordered them from you would you post them to me.

Shoot an SP1 that was bought s/h having done next to no work. Can't fault it. Would like better wood and maybe an adjustable stock though. Looking at a Yildiz pro sporter at similar money. Any chance of a head to head review?

While the Vittoria is designed for ladies, would it work well for a youth to learn on? Or what Beretta would you recommend for a youngster to pick up as their first gun?
It would absolutely work for juniors particularly because of the shorter grip.In fact I have even supplied these to men who are of smaller stature and they work well. Kind regards, Matt

Bought a new SP3, I have an old SP5 and so I wanted a steel proofed gun, and it’s been utter rubbish. Finish is peeling and flaking off the wood (the new gloss finish), the ejectors were out of time and the wood to metal fit is laughable. Also the new engraving looks good but feels rough and unfinished. Safe to say I’ll be getting rid of it.
