  • 2017 Yamaha XSR 900 Review - It's been ages since I rode a Yamaha and I've been itching to try one of their triple powered machines for a while. So huge thanks to Sam at Brian Gray Powerbiking in High Wycombe for letting me ride the MT09 based, but retro styled, XSR 900. Stay tuned to see what I thought!

Thank you for this great review. You mentioned the Ducati Scrambler in comparision and I think due to the date of the review you meant the 800.
I own the 1100 Scrambler which I love and I think the XSR could be a precious second bike in my garage because of its japanese quality and its three cylinder motor.

5:17 You claim it needs another gear? Feels a bit busy? That shows 60mph in 6th gear at 4,000rpm. That is absolutely par for the course and the 2020 versions at least will hit 150mph at redline in 6th gear. Your review didn't even mention the clock is a hybrid TFT/LCD? Even in direct sunlight in Australia my clock is clear as a TFT. You miss everything. The mirrors are alloy rotating on stainless gimbals. A mode is the only mode, traction must always be disabled, ABS must always be disabled, the suspension is utterly perfect for the road. It IS the ultimate UJM replicated with today's technology in every way. Even the MT-09 isn't even close to one of these. @@TheMissendenFlyer

Great review, partly on your advice I bought a second hand one in the same colour as you tested. My main gripe is no LED headlight but Hoglights in my hometown Brisbane have a great drop in plug and ride light. There is a lot of info available on the dash but unfortunately there is no handlebar mounted control to access a lot of it. However, I love the tripmeter which automatically comes on when the fuel hits reserve, a very handy feature. I was initially concerned about the fuel range but I’ve managed 315 kms before filling up.

Great review and seems like a fun bike. I'm a huge WWII airplane buff and loved the picture of the XSR and Spitfire together! Those two planes, Spitfire and Hurricane, were instrumental in the defense of England during the Battle of Britain! I would love a ride in one of those!

Nice review - opened my eyes to this bike. Love the 'dash', and the paint job - reminiscent of the RD250LC / RD350LC, which I'm sure is deliberate, but nicely done as it's not copying it exactly. They also do an Abarth grey / red combo paint job, which just happens to exactly match my car (an Abarth 595 in grey / red). Don't think I'll be tempted over a new Street Triple when it's time to change, but I'll pay more attention at the MCN show. btw, you were braver on those roads than I would have been, perhaps they looked worse on camera than they were. Yeah average km's out of the tank for me seems to be in the 230-250 range.

Fast little motorcycle, I seen it in highways, and it looks cool, it is a street fighter, wonder if it would ever come in a 1200 engine.

Great video, as always. I have heard some criticisms of the FZ/MT series suspension. It would be great to have a dry day to throw it around a bit and see what you think.

+rmteflonpenguin Yes a drier day would have been nice although I'm so insensitive to suspension tweaks it would probably seem fine to me!

TMF, thank you for another splendid review. Would love to see you review the XSR700 and compare versus the 900. I'm excited as Yamaha will finally be bringing the 700 model to the U.S in 2018. Starting to think about trading in my 14 Bonnie for something with semi retro style and safety goodies such as ABS, TC etc. plus some more power than my lovely but underpowered 14 Bonnie. Cheers

Great review! Wife willing, this may be my next bike. I've been looking for a bike with the performance of a naked with styling of a more traditional standard. I've looked at Street Triples, T120, Monster, etc. I know I'm all over the place but there is a continuum of performance, style and value in my mind and this seems to check all the boxes.

Another great review. This bike reminds me of my 1981 Yam RD 250LC, its a lovely looking bike. I' m sure a quickshifter is an option you can fit to this machine, it was just a £200.00 extra on my MT10. I'm obviously a big Yamaha fan but I really do think Yamaha have built some great affordable bikes with their MT range.
Just be careful if you do test the MT10, for some strange reason the modes are the other way around; just think B means BRUTAL! and hold on tight.

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  7 років тому +1

+Banditmanuk good to hear from you again Banditmanuk, and yes a quick shifter would be brill on the XSR. Having now ridden that can't wait to have a go on an MT09 and MT10....as you say these current Yamahas are spot on with regards to fun, build quality, style and best of all pricing...looking forward to riding more soon! All the best - TMF

That engine is a belter, test rode xsr700 and mt09 late last summer and felt the Xsr900 would be perfect but dealer didn't have one. Like you say, almost too much choice in bike market these days, struggle to choose.

Nice review. Thanks.Did you mention which TC mode you were using? I leave mine in TC 1. I agree STD mode can be a little jerky but not A which is just on/off or B which feels more like a carb' motor than injector. I've had my XSR900 since May 2016 but have done 7000km or so - love it!

I think Yamaha were very brave to clear the decks of the old naked mid range bikes (they were pretty boring) and bring out the new range, the new triples are very good. Now they must be selling truck loads great forward thinking by the Yamaha boffins!!! great review must try one of these.................so many great bikes we are so lucky indeed!

Love these style bikes. Great review! Love the triple engine, though the character / design / reliability of the R Nine T 1200 wins this cafe / urban / scrambler / retro category for me . Just gotta wait for all the peeps to trade in their 2014 / early 2015 N9Ts so i can pick one up at a more sensible price.

Yes so much choice these days eh! We're spoiled......money no object I'd take an R9T (with road tyres), the Triumph T100 and an XSR900 for my retro toys. For the naked funster the new Street Triple and maybe an MT-09...but I've yet to ride either...thanks for watching and stopping by - TMF

Great review. I've had 'umteen' different bikes over the last 40 years and my XSR900 tops the lot. You say 9.5 I say 9.9 out of ten for Yamaha. Looks a little like the XS650 of yester year....nothing like an LC!!! Cheers bud

Looks like a modern twist on the old 1300xjr, it looks sweet in yellow if you've seen it? infact the first bike I ever went on the back of was my dad's 1978 rd250 in yellow..So I've got a little place in my heart for yamahas, which is why I own one I guess. mind you its nearly 20 years old but going strong. nice review👍
