@@JFMotorcycles You had settings all wrong. You MUST turn off traction control & ABS and power mode must always be A mode. Also your year was changed a lot for 2020 in many ways. These early ones needed quite a few factory changes to improve them.
Thanks for the review. I'm thinking of trading my 2007 Kawasaki 650R Ninja for the XSR 900. Is it worth spending 8-9 grand to get the 2018 XSR 900? I've had the 650R for 13 years and have thought of 80-100 different bikes to trade for, but the 650R is so versatile and hard to let go. Thank you.
Love your videos man, you really do lean those bikes over! I want to love the XSR but Yamaha made too many 'round' elements on the bike. Just my opinion of course. It certainly has a stonking engine.
Great review buddy. I got one myself and it's actually my first bike. I know, she's got some pull and I will be careful. One thing I'm unsure about you're facts about the riding modes and the mapping, but please correct me if I'm wrong. I think you still get the full 115 hp on the rear wheel even if you are in B mode, it just won't release the full power right away. I'm gonna make a video once the snow goes away. Cheers from Norway. You got my sub!
They are just throttle maps, not changing total engine output. It just changes how sensitive the throttle is. Not sure what is going on with those dyno runs on the ZF-09.

Well, with the possible lack of power it is very subjective and difficult to advise. You have to try. My opinion is that this bike feels like way more than 115 HP and in elasticity not much bikes win next to XSR on any gear. It is awesome and very fast bike. I haven't been riding the bike now for a month or two so I can't remember much about the vibrations, but I think definitely not something notable. Great review. I threw up twice. I'm really getting torn up by different reviews. But it seems pretty clear the twitchy, nervous, maybe somewhat anxious feel on the A setting is a common reviewer perception. The last review compared this with a Kawasaki z1000 and a Honda CB something. The xsr came out the lowest in terms of shocks. Apparently there's some front end dive. I don't know if that can be adjusted, and I don't hear anything about anti-dive technology anymore. It sure does look nimble. And it's not as costly as the z1000. Plus I can't really find a z1000 for sale.
Couldnt agree more.. Ive just done a 5500km tour on my lil Honda Rebel 500 and the wind didnt bother me much even on highway speed (120-140kmph), altough I have a very tiny screen on it but its more like a design element rather than a practical and effective wind protection. Then I sat on my friends V-Strom 650 and I felt that the turbulence from the touring windscreen is killing me already on B road speed...
Hi! These are SW-MOTECH Legend gear. I truly like them and very often take only one side bag for a trip. Thank you for the tyres, I will check them out! :)
If that bike had a screen a big screen nothing worse that a fast bike and trying to hold on for dear life because of wind makes it so uncomfortable I noticed your doing a bike test in a warm climate try a cold wet country like Ireland and see how much you love the bike
@Pervy Pauline Yes, but in meeting emission standards today, it seems like an impressive figure. My w650 made 48HP in 2003. It's 800cc replacement makes barely 48 now. The w650 made 53HP in 1969. Emission standards.
@Pervy Pauline I love them. Reliable, easy to work with. if you like the grace keep it stock and enjoy the reliable gentle ride. If you like it as a platform to work on, it is great too. I tore out the airbox, exhaust and jetted up the carbs and it goes much better, but goes OK in standard trim with a bit of tweaking too. The new ones don't look as pretty but have injection and ABS but they could be cool i f worked on. Carbs are easy to modify, injection, not sure about that.
Pervy Pauline actually, I’ve just seen the new green 2020 W800, and it looks nice, much better than the ones in 2018/9 imo question is, can you mod the injection? Thats why the carb models are still popular.
Considering the XSR as my second bike after a W650 as well. Yeah, they didn’t change too much after the earlier W series from the 70s. I really do love the W, it’s a beautiful comfortable bike that does everything I need it to, but I just can’t help craving that extra sporty factor.
You don't look too confortable in the corners with this bike, or at least not confident enough in either yourself or the bike... Not hating, its just how it looks on camera and we can all improve or get better if its actually the case...
This review makes me want THAT XSR900 on THAT road more than anything in my life right now. Living the dream.

XSR900 or kawasaki z900rs? I'm 😕
XSR cause I like the triple engine...
Bit of a BEAST, but a nice bit of torque. A dim a Banditaholic,, 650 Bandits are the best.
What a brill road
Year listed is imprtant
sellin my GS Adventure now to get this :)
If that bike had a screen a big screen nothing worse that a fast bike and trying to hold on for dear life because of wind makes it so uncomfortable I noticed your doing a bike test in a warm climate try a cold wet country like Ireland and see how much you love the bike
115HP out of 847cc! Nice.
Dope video
👍🏽👊🏽@6.05min odd!!! 💥
That road made my hands sweat
great road
I hope I will be able to get back there in Autumn and enjoy those roads again.
Nice video, i shared it on my Facebook fanpage @XSRitalia
3.500 miles is 3.5 miles, which is like a trip to the nearest stoplight an back.
?
You don't look too confortable in the corners with this bike, or at least not confident enough in either yourself or the bike... Not hating, its just how it looks on camera and we can all improve or get better if its actually the case...
I watched this exact video in Czech language.
