- I thought it would be a fun project to take a look back on every single Metallica album. Here's part 1 of 11 covering Metallica's first album, Kill 'Em All.

It's gonna be a long month.
shout out to jojo for hanging out with me while recording the whole video
I remember playing Metallica covers with you in middle school, I also had a crazy obsession with them, I’ve only seen them live once though. Great video.
it’s insane how fast time flies
I would give METALLICA Kill 'Em All an A rank!
I'm ALL IN for a Deth retrospective, bring it on!
Kill 'em All is easily a top 3 Met album for me. It perfectly captures the wild crazy and fun side of Metallica that I feel has been missing since 1986.
Absolutely love this video. This is what video essays should be. Straight to the point, not drawn out, and entertaining.
My favourite songs from Kill 'Em All;
#3: Seek & Destroy
#2: The Four Horsemen, Whiplash
#1: Phantom Lord, No Remorse
megadeth retrospective would be awesome

@BrettPlaysGames band members alone
Dave musty is that you
@@sheldor4071 just like metallica’s entire discography! (Except for conveniently the stuff I don’t like)
@@doug176You only like 4 mediocre metallica songs then
I think Kill 'Em All would've benefited greatly if it had the same production quality as Ride The Lightning and Master Of Puppets. Megadeth's debut suffered the same way (Killing Is My Business). Which is a damn good album too! Dig the video.😁😎
KeA is my fave album of all time and the production... for me... is literally perfect in every way. RtL production is weak to me and I wish it had KeA production and energy
@@pleasuretokill Interesting. I respect that.😁😎🤘🏻🤘🏻
I sat down and listened to Kill 'Em All and I wasn't sure if I liked it
I love Anesthesia
Yes please on the Megadeth retros
there’ll probably different kinds of videos between the end of this and the megadeth retrospective. but trust that it’s coming
You should absolutely do a Megadeth Retrospec! Then maybe your tone will change. Like Megadeth. Yeahhhh! Burrrrrnage! Joking, but seriously, both are some of the greatest and most influential thrash bands of all time!! I did your channel. Keep in going.
i love the passion involved in every minute of this. keep up the great work ahmed :)
ahhhhh!!! thank u!!!!
Best thrash album of all time hands down fucking incredible love every song on it
Kill 'Em All and Rust in Peace are tied for best thrash albums of all time for me.
Rust has always gotten respect among fans and non-fans alike. But I don't think Kill 'Em all gets the respect it deserves.
Generally speaking, it seems Master of Puppets gets the lions share of notoriety with Lightning/Justice being up there too.
To me, Kill 'Em All is their fastest, most intense album. It's pure, unadulterated angst and fury from top to bottom. Some have stated that the album lacks variety, specifically in terms of tempo and songwriting.
I look at it as consistent. The album has biting riffs and vocals. There is intent there. James vocals weren't refined yet but this is my favorite vocal performance of his along with his more matured style on Justice.
Ride the Lightning was the band refining their original sound. The riffs weren't as fast as their debut which made the music more melodic. Ride was also the album I discovered the band with, back between 90-92 and has been my #1 album of theirs for 30+ years until recently when I switched to Kill 'Em all.
Master of Puppets was more refining the sound and expanding their style heard on Lightning. From my point of view it seems fans seem to like this album (generally) the most from the original 4 records. While a fantastic record (all 4 are masterpieces) its my least favorite of the original 4 albums even though 4 of the tracks on the album are some of my favorite in the bands history. (Battery, Master of Puppets, Sanitarium, Damage inc.).
...And Justice for All has a more menacing, thrashy sound similar to the debut. It was faster than both Lightning and Master, but not as fast as Kill. It's understandable that this album is a bit more intense than the previous 2 considering Cliff had just died. James vocals here are imo peak Hetfield. While I prefer his more raw vocals on the debut, he really mastered his style on this album.
The fact that there is no bass on this album makes it have a very unique sound that I have never heard since, from any band.
While I own all 4 albums and consider each one a masterpiece, Kill 'Em All will remain my absolute favorite.
While I still buy and own all of Metallica's works and generally love the band, I'm more of a Megadeth guy. You really can't go wrong with either band.
Wish more fans of both bands would see the merit in the other. It's incredible that we live in a time that not only can we hear both bands music, but both bands are STILL active at the time of this post.
Long live Megadeth and Metallica!
They moved to San Francisco because that was the only way to get Cliff to join
80's metallica = bulletproof 🤘
This is a weird concept for a video, but it is exactly what I needed to watch. Keep up the good work!
glad u enjoyed! part 5 should be up tomorrow!
I feel kinda ashamed for only getting to ACTUALLY dive into this band now when I’m 20 years of age and this band has already reached its peak
I never understood people saying they out grew Metallica they’ve been my favorite band since I was 10 and I’ve discovered tons of heavier bands and different genres since then but I still get excited as fuck when they put out anything new or when they’re putting good into the world through there foundation
Birth, School, METALLICA, Death.
ive seen about 30 secs of your video and i can already tell u deserve a hell of a lot more subscribers
I spent my middle and high school years doing the exact same thing, totally obsessed with the first 4 albums and listened to almost nothing else but Metallica, playing guitar hero Metallica and learning as much as I could on guitar, wish I still had my guitars and played every day like I used to but life happens
More Dave please
Megadeth retrospective please
I love your take on this album two by the way. I think what makes Metallica different than their peers like Megadeth, Slayer, Exodus, Anthrax, etc. is that this really was just their intro to the world, but if they were like their peers, the next for albums, would’ve sounded just like this. The amount of growth and maturity that they show from this album to Ride The Lightning is just incredible. I’m not saying this is a bad album by any means. It introduces you to the band, but the songs are about themselves, almost like how rappers, rap, and it’s about the metal seen in general in a lot of ways. I don’t think they would’ve ever made it to the Heights they did if the second album was just more of this but for the first album, it really does work. But by the time you get to the second and third album what their songs are about and the musicianship seems like they really did a lot of growing up. And I totally know what you mean by forgetting about certain songs it’s not like if someone asked you what album this song was on you couldn’t name it it’s just when I think about this album, I think about cliffs space solo, seek and destroy, the four horsemen, and Whiplash.
U make great videos man. I just subscribe to your channel, Metallica has been my favorite band since the black album came out. I was 12 years old and my parents had just gotten cable and MTV was still the number one way young people got into two music back in the day. I had to settle for having all of the music videos from the Black album and One from AJFA on VHS as I recorded them off TV because I wasn’t old enough to have a job or make my own money. By helping my dad with his paper route I finally had enough money to buy my first Metallica Album and it was Ride The Lightning . So even though it was the black album that got me into the band, I would actually owned the first four albums from the 80s by the time I finally got to the Black album when I was 13 but by that time it was only that just to own it, because that album was everywhere all over the radio and MTV.
I grew up on metal and hip-hop pretty much throughout my teenage years. Probably in my late 20s I stop listening to metal as much because by that time I think my era of metal had come and gone and I just wasn’t into the newer bands so it was always Feeling like I was a bigger fan of hip-hop for the longest time but every time Metallica will drop an album. It would suck me back in. Anyways, keep up the great work man. There’s still my favorite band to this day even if I go through an eight or 10 month period. Where I don’t feel like listening to metal it doesn’t take much to get me back into a Metallica mood.
Phantom Lord forgettable? Bro you're off the perc 30
new sub here good job can't wait to here your thoughts on the other albums.
thanks for the sub! expect part 2 early next week
jk part 2 is up now!
I really disagree with your take on this album. You seem to only like the radio cuts from this. I'm genuinely disappointed in this retrospective.
Wiplash, no remorse and metal militia he talked about them like nothing 😂
@@daniellizarraga4678 And Phantom Lord too!
I know right! Metal Militia has some of the best riffs on the album and you can't simply overlook that. Also, it's probably one of the most thrasher songs in the genre during that point and context.
Except for whiplash and pulling teeth every song is a banger on this album
Also if you are new and don’t understand how we can listen to this kind of music, go listen to Heavy Metal by Judas Priest and look at the lyrics and it will make sense.
No Remorse is the shit. I love it. Seek and Destroy is a good song but I think it’s overrated.
whiplash, motorbreath and the 4 horseman
I'm curious which version of hit the lights you used, because in the intro the guitars pan from the left ear to the right, but on the versions Metallica has, it's only on the left. Great video btw
it's actually just an instrumental edit i found here on youtube
I did not expect to be so disagree with this review
I used to love this album. Then, I heard live versions of songs like Motorbreath on Live Shit, and wasn't able to listen to the far weaker studio versions again.
Now, I think of it as a rather immature ( especially in the lyrics) album that was insanely influencial, but pales in comparision to almost all of their other work and many many other Thrash albums. It lacks variety, and many of it's riffs ( mostly by Mustaine) don't do it for me. This and Harwired are their most one-dimensional, pure metal albums, which is why both of these albums are the least interesting to me. Metallica would go on to create much more diverse, stylisticly challenging art only one year later, incorporating Punk, classical music and Progressive Rock into their sound.
6/10
Jump in the Fire was sped up in the studio.
I genuinely hate Seek and Destroy.
