I just realized Mimir did convince him that Atreus needed to know eventually. At first he said "He must never know" but by the end of the conversation he said "You will tell him nothing". I think that meant he wanted to be the one to tell Atreus
Yeah the way he paused on "YOU... will tell him nothing" and I think mimir agreed to that cause he understood it too like "ah, okay, YOU wanna tell him, not me"
I believe Kratos realized that he couldn't keep the truth from his son forever. Kratos understands that being a god carries an enormous burden, and he never wanted Atreus to follow in his footsteps. But his way of life as a mortal is what Kratos desires, not *what is necessary*.
My favorite line was right before Mimir truly finds out who Kratos is when they go to travel to Helheim before getting the heart… Mimir:I’m pretty sure you weren’t talking to me back there brother anything you like to get off your chest? Kratos:(stays silent) Mimir:Well you know where to find me….and for the record I already guessed that you were greek Athena? Dead giveaway
Indeed the game of decade …graphics, face translation, dialogue transition, connection to the previous story all in 1 definitely buy and play whenever pc version comes
Well he did single handedly slaughter almost every single god and Titan in Greece, not to mention he was already a warrior of legend before his deal with Ares
well a mortal who sold his soul to a god and then become a most powerfull monster ... would be a great lesson for other pantheons ... just in case .. they ever did the same mistake
I love how kratos is now really living up to his name. everytime i hear "ghost of sparta", I can imagine kratos actually being a ghost in norse land. edit: i know that the ghost of sparta title refers to the ashes of his previous family that he is cursed to wear, but what i meant is, in the norse POV, for example like magni and modi, they see kratos as a stranger, and after magni's death, modi tells the news on asgard and starts thinking" no way a man killed a god", so you'd never expect someone to be from greece, let alone someone who destroyed greece and olympus to be in midgard, especially when kratos tried to kill himself in the end of GOW3. even mimir was surprised when he found out after helheim.
That's different to think about. I always think of the man who killed his wife and daughter through mind control and had their ashes burned to him as a permanent reminder every time I hear "Ghost of Sparta"
Yeah that was such an unexpected way for Mimir to find out. It was such a powerful moment and gave me the chills the first time playing through the game.
I love how Mimir knows who Zeus is, and is even aware of the Ghost of Sparta, It really helps to sell that these different pantheons exist in the same world, like how different royal houses obviously know each other by name and are familiar with the goings on in the different realms. And obviously Mimir, being a migrant god himself and advisor to Odin would know.
Notice how Kratos breathes when he sees Zeus. Just before he grabs Mimir, it’s heavy and fast. When Mimir tells him “You must never go there.”, he sighs heavily and retaliates. It shows how much rage still boils inside him and how much of his old self still leaks out sometimes. The attention to detail in this game is a spectacle.
Bro calm down he was breathing normally and there was no rage in his voice especially when he was looking at zues, if anything there was regret. The part where he asks Mimir about that place isn't rage either he's probably fucking confused why tf he just saw his dad who is dead. I get tired of people overly praising games and giving them credit for shit that is either not even meant to be taken the way people think or pure coincidence lmao. Stop over examining shit
@@Apathy474 You should probably work on your ability to read body language considering about 55% of human communication is done through it. OP is right and you clearly lack the ability to read people.
You know something, I always figured they gave Mimir a british accent due to his intelligence and that kind of fits the archetype but now I realize, he talked about how he had to flee his first job as advisor to a fairy king. He likely actually really does come from the celtic pantheon or at least their mythological realm.
Probably because they were far away from that section of Hel. When they get there by boat later on, all three (Atreus included) can hear and see ALL illusions very clearly, even Baldur's visions.
I got the game the day it came out on PC and even though I watched play-throughs of it back when it first came out, I didn't remember that. This sequence, with the retrieval of the blades, the apparition of Athena and when Kratos tells Atreus they're Gods gave me chills. This game is a masterpiece, I can't stop playing it, I'm gonna 100% it and will most likely launch a new game + right after that. It’d be interesting to see how Kratos would interact with a “benevolent” pantheon, tho I’m not sure any exist, unless you consider like, Native American tribal spirits a pantheon. I wonder if Kratos will eventually take on the Egyptian gods, or if the Roman counterparts to the Greek Gods are considered their own entities in the God of War universe. Seeing Athena and Horus interact could be pretty cool.
i mean these pantheons were not intended to be “malevolent” they twisted these flawed pantheons into human and relatively evil versions of themselves. So no pantheon in the GoW universe would be “benevolent” really.
@@gibbysplendid3725 I mean, it’s very rare the Greek gods were portrayed in a good light, usually only particular demigods, like Hercules, Perseus, Calypso, etc are. And the Norse gods aside from the King and Queen are usually not particularly benevolent.
@@gibbysplendid3725 The Greek gods weren't benevolent IRL. They were cruel gods, and the people worshipping them were more bribing them for their blessings. You can see evidence of this with Poseidon and Zeus, where the people would sacrifice to the gods so that the gods wouldn't ruin their lives. The closest to a benevolent Pantheon in the ancient religions would have to be the Babylonian pantheon, with gods like Ishtar and Enlil. The gods of Babylon strove to protect them and care for them, instead of having gods use them for sport
You know what actually stick to me and I find it pretty cool? Kratos always seems so detached from the Kratos from Greece, but when appears a single most slightly chance that Zeus is alive, he instantly goes Ghost of Sparta mode "WHAT IS THAT PLACE?", our boy was ready to beat the shit out of everyone again
That lecture at the end was really good on how it explains Kratos' mentality of Gods, They were the cause of his first family's death, they've killed him on several occassions, finds out that he's the son of the man who sticks his d#$% in everything, now Kratos has to deal with the concept that his new son is part god which makes that huge gap preventing him from being close to him
Its funny cuz , Mimir new he was a Greek god , he just didn't know which one . I wonder what was his guesses, and then he finally realize its the most infamous one of them all , The godslayer , the oathbreaker , the god of war , the ghost of sparta Kratos.

Yeah the way he paused on "YOU... will tell him nothing"
and I think mimir agreed to that cause he understood it too

I believe Kratos realized that he couldn't keep the truth from his son forever. Kratos understands that being a god carries an enormous burden, and he never wanted Atreus to follow in his footsteps. But his way of life as a mortal is what Kratos desires, not *what is necessary*.
That's why he's so quiet when he does tell atreus, love me some mimir

That's the dangling from the hip of the bloody Ghost of Sparta he was talking about.

I like how mimir seems to be aware of some things even without looking at them
Notice how Kratos breathes when he sees Zeus.
Maybe the Indian one ? Since hinduismt is still large so they will be forced to make em benevolent
i mean these pantheons were not intended to be “malevolent” they twisted these flawed pantheons into human and relatively evil versions of themselves.

You can hear the pain in kratos voice when he says zeus you can tell he has some regrets.
