Been doing this motorcycling thing for 40 years . 10 years on Harleys . If you are under 6' I would say always replace feet forward pegs with footboards . If Over 6' , I would suggest trying footboards . If you have a Dyna (now a softail family) and find out how well they take the bends , then replacing feet forward pegs with boards is highly advised. The range of foot position on boards is well explained in the video . The toe on back edge of board can help with better control in bends , a little used -if ever technique is to weight the footpeg/board , next time you are out , put toe on back of board and push down -don't put any input into the bars -you should find the bike will lean . To be honest , you hardly ever need to to do it in normal road riding but something to have in your riding toolkit.
I was a peg person and I never used floorboards since I thought these were just for the baggers. Then I put floorboards and crash bars with highway pegs on my SG and its made a surprising difference in comfort and control. It changed the character of the bike for the better and my legs thank me each ride. For the Sport Glide, I'm now sold on floorboards. Harley, please make a note of that for your next model year.
Hey Gene, that is awesome that you have had a similar experience and are loving your floorboards! It is amazing how with just a few changes this bike is capable of not only fun sport riding, but also long distance comfort! Safe riding out there ✌⚡
Floorboards. Have to comment on the Indian Springfield. I purchased a 2018 Springfield Darkhorse in Sept 2017. In 1 year of ownership I put 9000 miles on the clock. Damn fine machine. I traded it for the Street Glide Special in August 2018. Another fine machine. Between the 2 the Springfield was more comfortable. Much better suspension and balance. I tell folks that and they are curious why I went back to Harley. Hard to put into words. I suppose in the end I'm a Harley guy. The Street Glide went for the Sport Glide in Sept 2019. Sport Glide is much better for my riding style and comfort. Take care.
I just installed the same floorboards last night. I haven't been out to test them yet but am super excited to do so after watching your review. Thanks.
Just bought a sport glide few months ago , love it. I had few HD’s in my life but this sport glide is awesome. Changed few things like 6” pullback handle bars, mini backrest, SS complete exhaust system with low end torque cam, screaming eagle breather of course. Sound great and plenty of power. Love these floor boards like to have a part number.
Ted Dworak nice dude sounds like an awesome set up! I just changed handlebars and had a cam installed - amazing difference! The footboards are the Kuryakyn Hex Floorboards and I got them through Get Lowered Cycles 💪
Excellent video I just installed floor boards on my TVX 1800. I am just getting use to them, you showed me how to position my feet, can't wait to give it a try.
Thanks for this video. I'd never before considered floor boards, but this video convinced my that I should try them out. I add the Mini Hex floorboards to my Sport Glide and I love them for all the reasons you mentioned. I've got bad knees and being able to move my feet around on a long ride has made riding so much more comfortable. And while my knees don't like being kept tightly bent for long periods, making me a fan of the Sport Glide's forward controls, it's sometimes really nice to be able to get your feet underneath you.
I like pegs, personally, because it's what I'm most familiar with. That said, the first time I got to ride a bike with boards, the first words out of my mouth were "holy shit". I *definitely* get why dudes put boards on and I've gotta admit I'm pretty tempted myself.
I dont's like floorboards because they fix my feet angle into one position. Being 1.93 m tall i had the H-D extended forward control kit installed. A dream!
I am very close to pulling the trigger on this. It would be my last attempt to make my 2008 Fat Bob more comfortable. I have mid controls, and I need a few more inches to stretch my legs out. I'm confident the bike would be a lot more comfortable, and enjoyable to ride on long trips. I was worried about loss of lean angle, and stumbled across this video. Very good job! Answered my question as well. Now, all I have to do is buy my floorboards, and hope they fit with an aftermarket exhaust.
Hi Micheal. I scrape the „hero blobs” on my Sport Glide footpegs all the time as we have a lot of winding roads in Europe. I don’t have a problem with repositioning my foot when I lean. I am however looking for more comfort on longer journeys/ touring and I have considered footboards as my feet are always looking for a more comfortable position especially going into the wind. I have no experience with floorboards, but talking to my local dealer about Kuryakyn they told me that the quality had significantly fallen since the company switched production from the USA to China. They have seen a lot of issues with Kuryakyn products, so it would be interesting to see a mid term review of your floorboards and how they are wearing.
Hey Peter, I'll let you know how they go in the long run! I can say for now that the quality out of the box for these was very high. The boards are feel heavy and solid, mounting system is secure and folding mechanism works smoothly! Let's see how they last! Safe riding on those awesome awesome European roads! ✌⚡
Cheers from Canada Michael! We're at the point up here in the northern hemisphere where we're putting our bikes away for winter. Enjoy your riding season and ride safe!
I've been thinking of getting those very floorboards thanks for the review I'll be purchasing them tomorrow thanks to you! I just picked up my leftover 2019 Sport Glide last weekend and I am loving it! I'm a fan from Rhode Island !
100% why I bought mini FB's save my boot heel, but when the mini FB folds up, it going to wright off your exhaust pipe (stationary fall) so I am now going to splash out of a full sized FB with two pivots, I recommend you do the same.
Awesome video Michael! I’ll definitely be adding floorboards to my bike. I ran them on my Super Glide & loved the options they gave for my foot position which translated into more options for my riding position which in turn cut down on fatigue & more enjoyable long rides. Thanks again!
Thanks for talking about how you felt using the various foot placements on the 'boards. I'm going from years on my old Sportster 1200 Custom with forward (pegs) controls to a much heavier Heritage with 'boards. Feels like it's going to take some getting used to 😉
Hey Michael - I don't know if I ask this question previously.....I was looking at the Kuryakyn kinetic mini boards for driver and passenger, but really like the hex that you have. Did you have to replace brake lever? Adjust brake lever? Shift lever? Footboards are so much better than pegs and make riding more comfortable and enjoyable. Thanks.
Hey mate, I had to adjust the shift lever to fit my toes under it, it’s an easy job, just loosen the lever and reposition before tightening back up. I left my brake lever, it fees different but I like the change - if you wanted a higher lever you would have to buy a longer one.
I installed the Kuryakyn #4357 floor boards and of course the # 8946 adapter. Everything you said about lean and confidence, I echo. What I did not like about the pegs was that my right foot always felt like it was under the rear brake lever so if you had to hit the brake it could add a couple of seconds. The boards are the way to go , more comfort on a long ride. Cheers and safe riding. Your spring is now our winter ☹️.
Hey Rob, great to hear that we have had similar experiences changes to floorboards and you are bang on about the foot movement for the rear brake. I prefer where it is now and feel a lot snappier in reaching to it if I need to! Sorry winter is fast approaching you, I'll be sure to get some great trip videos lined up so you can live vicariously through me! ✌⚡
Looking to install boards on my Sport Glide. Loved the boards on my Deluxe. Like the Mini Hex but what are the attaching parts or brackets I need to buy? Are the Kuryakyn part numbers available?
You need the spliced adapters from Kuryakyn, I might have added them in the video description. If not, jump on their website and you can select your model bike from the options when buying the boards and adapters.
I am opposite .First time on a harley with floorboards .I don't know if I can get used to them as when stopping I keep catching my boots on them putting my feet down to the ground .Having to bring my legs out beyond the floor boards I find is a problem for me .boards are 4.5 inches wide ( stnd ) been trying to find narrow with boards , but so far no luck
I’m 5’8” and added the HD 4” mini boards plus a Danny Gray speedcradle solo on my softail night train. That was the absolute best combo for me on that bike. I now own a 2009 cvo dyna fat Bob and still trying things out to get it just right. I’ve looked at the Kuryakyn Phantom boards before and that may be what I try next. Between reach kits, seats, and boards it’s getting pricey but when u find that perfect combo it all pays off.
I just picked up my bike from the shops. fitted forward controls... feels good... and just bought the same floorboards you recommended on ebay! can't wait. Thanks for the tips, man!
Michael, I have been looking at changing my bike and you channel has helped to make my mind up to get a Sport Glide. So now I looking at researching different possible changes that I may make when I order the bike. Videos like this are so use full giving great advice and good to learn from your experience. thank you👍
My bike & me hey! Thank you so much for the comment, really means a lot! The Sport Glide is an awesome bike, love riding everyday even after 2 years - makes me smile every time! Enjoy making it your own and most of all - enjoy the places it takes you and the roads you take to get there 🤘🦅
@@TheMotoBarista Just mounted mine. For me is the first time with floorboards and as first impression unfortunately is a no. I don't feel confident riding especially in turns, I feel the legs in a high position.. less comfy. But my big concern is the ease the boards fold. A couple of time, starting, I touched the boards with my feet and them folded. Now I'll mount them on the passenger's mount and for me I've ordered the Hex pegs to match the boards.
Andrea Nasisi hey Andrea, that’s a shame you are not enjoying the boards. When you say the boards are folding when you touch them what do you mean? They should only fold up if you scrape them on the ground when leaning into a turn - this is why they fold!
Loved the full length floor boards on my Dyna Switchback. Options-a-plenty for foot position. I became aware that I was almost always riding with my left leg outstretched, and my right in the mid-controls "90 degree knee" position. .. it suited me! Comfortable. Love your vids. Very professional...you explain yourself really well. Keep 'm coming. (PS I pick up the new SG this afternoon!)
Hey Michael, you absolutely nailed - that freedom to move the foot around is absolutely gold! Thanks for watching and glad you are enjoying the vids! Enjoy the new bike, can't wait to hear what you think ✌⚡⚡⚡
@@TheMotoBarista did a 66km loop via the highway to get the new bike home. I'm not a typist and you're certainly busy, so a few brief things.... compared to the Switchback gear shifts handling and responsiveness of both engine and chassis all far superior. It didn't wander all over the hiway. Steer it to where you want and it goes there. The frame and fork rake angle seem spot on. Suspension is superior, and controls easier to read. Riding position with current seat, bars, controls all good. Impressed and chuffed!! It was a great decision. Keep the vids coming!
@@michaelmatheson2279 hey dude, yes you got the bike, awesome! So happy you enjoyed the ride home and no doubt you'll fall more and more in love as you see what this bike is capable of! Enjoy your new ride and planning your customisation, thanks for watching and sharing too. Safe riding ✌️⚡⚡⚡
My Vulcan had floorboards and they were so uncomfortable. I swapped them out for forward controls. I’m thinking about doing the same for my Road King. 9:03
Good video and I'm pro floorboards. I have Flahin's Supply miniboards on my Sport Glide. Like you said they give you more options for moving your feet around which is good for long rides. Before I got them I wasn't sure I would like the look but now I think they look cool. I've seen some comments that theirs loosened up. I had the shop put mine on and have not had any issues.
I don't understand how it is obviously more comfortable Yes you do have more foot positions available on a floorboard than a peg, however, if you wear the right boots, you can hang your foot off of pegs(the right pegs), which is very comfortable. And you made it sound like you can't put your heel up on the peg like you did on the floorboard.....yes you can Sooooo you go riding thru the curves without using your foot controls Listening to you, I have one question, how many months have you got riding?
Hi I just bought a Sport Glide (picking it up next week)... Re: these floorboards can I please ask a question? They come in chrome and black... When they scrape how do they look ie. Would the chrome look better or worse than the black after they scrape? Is the material on the black ones black plastic all the way through so it's not obvious? Also I'm short 5'7" I wonder if they'll make it so my feet don't want to slide off the pegs as much... I did manage on the test ride but it was alien to me because I come from sports bikes and naked sports bikes... This is my first Harley! Thanks mate!
I think the black will be best, it will hide any scrapes. But you won’t scrape as much with these anyway. And yes you will have better grip with your feet on them because they allow your feet to sit slightly higher and further back.
Hi Michael, I have always preferred floorboards over pegs for the comfort level you have just explained in your video. With the Sportglide I am finding the heel dragging through corners a little annoying ( as well as grinding my bike boots sole down ). Definitely thinking down the track those Mini floorboards would be the go though now that you have shared your views that I wouldn't lose any lean angle. Cheers mate & thank you again.👍😎
Hey mate, you are exactly right about the annoyance of dragging your boot. I think you really enjoy these floorboards, not just for saving your boots from an early demise but also with the added lean angle + performance! Thanks for watching and ride safe ✌⚡
Fabio Bowles Vilela Hey Fabio, thank you for the kind words dude! Just enjoying sharing this with you, finding my own style and hopefully improving with every video! Thanks for your support! 🙏✌️⚡️
@@TheMotoBarista keep it up... you surely deserve thousands of subscribers! on the topic of the vid: I ride a 2015 Dyna low rider which came with mid controls... I'm thinking to put forward controls on it and eventually get a floorboard like yours to experiment ;) I have ridden a bunch of the new m8 engine bikes but I come back to mine and still think it's not worth the trade yet. One because the trade-in value is very low and two because I have changed everything on my bike, including suspension front and rear which completely changed the game! So I keep liking my bike more and more after every each test ride. I haven't tried a sport glide though... Anyway man... again what an amazing channel with such good quality vids and very good camera work.
Fabio Bowles Vilela ahhh dude, your bike sounds great! I love the Dyna low riders, so much fun. Awesome you swapped out suspension too, I bet it is great to ride. I just test rode the 2020 Low Rider S, video soon, but can’t believe how fast it was and handled amazing. Mids were cool, but I felt a bit cramped at 6ft tall with long legs. Once you go floorboards, you’ll never go back 😅 thanks again mate, ride safe ✌️⚡️
I am planning on trading my Sporster in for a softail. I have been deliberating between a lowrider S verses a Sport glide. Most notably, I want the sidebargs of the sport glide but I don't want the forward foot controls. So my search led me to your review. Thank you. Foot pegs on a Sport glide might be the answer to my dilemma. But I still like the decreased t rake of the lowrider S and dual front disk brakes? Thanks again, looking forward to checking out more of your videos.
Pinchas Levine hey mate, you can add the sport Glide bags to the low rider S - but it is expensive. Worth looking into. It is cheaper to change the sport glide forward controls to mid controls. I am making a full comparison video of the two bikes soon.
Hey mate, part number is 5909 or 5908 depending if you want black or chrome finish. The link in the video description takes you to the product on Kuryakyn's website ✌️⚡
Aldo Lopez I am 6ft. You will be fine with floorboards- actually you will probably be better with them! They give you more space to place your feet - closer or further away.
Thanks for a great review! I’m 6.1 and ride a Triumph Speedmaster 2007, nearly the same model as the America. I feel a bit cramped and legs are locked in same position. Would floorboards give me better opportunity to move my feet for different positions? And one last question, you mentioned the name and model of your floorboards, can you write me they name and model in your answer? Once again thanks! 😊
Hey mang. Ive had my bike like 3 weeks, and im busting ass trying to get my tickets..... but ive been thinking about going to boards and fwd control......
Greetings from your Adelaide subscriber. I have been told by a reliable source that the floorboards on the Fat Boy bolt straight on to the Sport Glide so there's another option for people to look at.
Hey mate, yes I have heard a similar thing, though I think you need a mounting bracket -- worth checking into! But those boards would also look great on the Sport Glide! ⚡⚡⚡

Hey Michael, you absolutely nailed - that freedom to move the foot around is absolutely gold! Thanks for watching and glad you are enjoying the vids! Enjoy the new bike, can't wait to hear what you think ✌⚡⚡⚡
Awesome. My favorite Harley. You'll love it.
Good info. Which spline adaptor did you need for your fitment and does it pivot on the adaptor or just on the floorboard?
My Vulcan had floorboards and they were so uncomfortable. I swapped them out for forward controls. I’m thinking about doing the same for my Road King. 9:03
I ride FLHRXS, so team footboards here. At least for the rider. And I wouldn’t change the team if I could.
Mark Gman good to hear you are enjoying yours too! I was sceptical at first but really happy with the change!
I don't understand how it is obviously more comfortable
Yes you do have more foot positions available on a floorboard than a peg, however, if you wear the right boots, you can hang your foot off of pegs(the right pegs), which is very comfortable. And you made it sound like you can't put your heel up on the peg like you did on the floorboard.....yes you can
Sooooo you go riding thru the curves without using your foot controls
Listening to you, I have one question, how many months have you got riding?
Great video! By any chance do you have a Part number for the adapters you used? Searching online only causes more confusion haha
Hi Michael,
I have always preferred floorboards over pegs for the comfort level you have just explained in your video.
Good information, nice wheels!
Man, your channel is amazing! It just got suggested to me... I will go through all your vids for sure... Well done ,mate
Cheers from Melbourne
Fabio Bowles Vilela Hey Fabio, thank you for the kind words dude! Just enjoying sharing this with you, finding my own style and hopefully improving with every video! Thanks for your support! 🙏✌️⚡️
@@TheMotoBarista keep it up... you surely deserve thousands of subscribers! on the topic of the vid: I ride a 2015 Dyna low rider which came with mid controls... I'm thinking to put forward controls on it and eventually get a floorboard like yours to experiment ;)
I have ridden a bunch of the new m8 engine bikes but I come back to mine and still think it's not worth the trade yet.
Once you go floorboards, you’ll never go back 😅 thanks again mate, ride safe ✌️⚡️
now it is looking better and safer to ride, good job bro.
Cheers mate ✌️⚡
Would those type of floorboards fit on a 2020 soft tail standard?
Sure will 👌
Did you have to change the mounts or just remove the pegs?
Yes, you have to buy the splined adapters from Kuryakyn to fit the floorboards.
did you have to buy any other hardware from Harley to mount them to?
Great info brother! Enjoy your coffee......Ride hard or stay home😎
Sport Glide Jim cheers dude, you too ✌️⚡️
Actually, how DID you fit them on? i cant find a bracket for the large floorboards..?
Can I use these floorboards on my breakout harley 2020
I've got floorboards. They're Indian stock and they're a bit too big. I might downsize to smaller ones.
I was also curious about the air cleaner conversion you have on there...can you tell me what that is?
Gene Ciccone it is the S&S Stealth Air Cleaner with Carbon Fiber Teardrop cover. Amazing. ⚡️⚡️
What is the measurement of the floorboards?
for boards are the best will not enjoy without them.
But I still like the decreased t
rake of the lowrider S and dual front disk brakes? Thanks again, looking forward to checking out more of your videos.
Pinchas Levine hey mate, you can add the sport Glide bags to the low rider S - but it is expensive. Worth looking into. It is cheaper to change the sport glide forward controls to mid controls. I am making a full comparison video of the two bikes soon.
Got floor boards of the fat boy love them.
Do you feel more stretched out on pegs or floorboards?
Pegs is more stretched. Floorboards you have a lot more movement though so you can have lots of different positions.
Hi Micheal, in the description its the Mini Hex floorboard but in your dialogue you talk about the Hex Floorboard. Do you have a part number?.
Hey mate, part number is 5909 or 5908 depending if you want black or chrome finish. The link in the video description takes you to the product on Kuryakyn's website ✌️⚡
X10 on the ability to move your feet and legs (and hips) for comfort. A little freedom of movement goes a looong way.
Bonsoir,
How tall are you? I’m 5ft 8 and am not sure I would be able to use floor boards with my hight.
Hi love the videos.. just wondered how tall you are ?
6 ft 👍
How about gear change
Hey mang. Ive had my bike like 3 weeks, and im busting ass trying to get my tickets..... but ive been thinking about going to boards and fwd control......
I have floorboards on my fatboy and HATE them. They scrape and I think I'm going to crash. Can you please speak to this?
Stock Fatboy boards are supposed to bolt right up.
Great video!
Cheers mate! Thanks for subscribing and ride safe ✌️⚡
bro, I don't speak English well. what is your tall?
Hi,
Can you please tell me the floorboard dimensions? I can’t seem to find it online..
Here is a link mate: www.kuryakyn.com/products/5256/hex-folding-boards
Greetings from your Adelaide subscriber. I have been told by a reliable source that the floorboards on the Fat Boy bolt straight on to the Sport Glide so there's another option for people to look at.
Hey mate, yes I have heard a similar thing, though I think you need a mounting bracket -- worth checking into! But those boards would also look great on the Sport Glide! ⚡⚡⚡
@@TheMotoBarista Have you seen the Harley-Davidson Softail Sport Glide Owners page on Facebook? The amount of changes to the bike these people have done are quite enlightening.
@@aussierob1947 Yes, such a great Facebook group! I try and chat in their as much as possible - so many interesting builds and ideas being shared there 👌

What was the cost of them
Michael Sweeney approx $200usd plus the adapters.
Thank you for your time and the videos .I'm thinking of getting them for my sport glide.
Michael Sweeney I am definitely happy with mine, one of my favourite parts I have added! Enjoy!
@@TheMotoBarista 👍
For tall riders this is terrible as u demonstrated the pegs looked a lot more comfortable. I havent bought a harley for just this reason. They all bring my knees into the handlebar swing zone. Or feel like sitting on a low toilet. I'm only 185.5cm tall.
South Ga United States
that's a good looking motorcycle...
it's floorboards or nothing..
Thought hipsters were extinct and owned cafe racers?
Hipster? Hipsters ride on weekends. I ride everyday rain or shine. I then use my holidays to ride more, live off the bike and camp. Plus, no beard. I'm just a guy that loves to ride motorcycles with every spare moment. Safe riding dude ✌️⚡
