    Widow’s Wine replaced PHD on all Chronicles maps it appeared on; so not just Ascension, but Moon and Shang-ri La as well (and in the Wunderfizz of Origins).

      It’s in all the chronicles wunderfizz machines

    • @sonicthehedge
      @sonicthehedge Місяць тому +8

      @@Binglechange yes, but it also replaced all the places PHD originally appeared.
      BO2 is known for trolling the fanbase not adding PHD on any map but rather an easter egg outside the map. Origins is where it made it's return so in the BO3 version, its replaced again with Widow's Wine so technically it did replace it.
      Also Wunderfizz is different in any map not Origins, it only gives perks not in the map unlike Origins in which it can give all perks that are on and not on the map. Also it has a special interaction on Nacht and Solo Quick Revive.
      Since there is no Quick Revive Vending, you can get basically infinite solo quick revives.

    • @Micmeat
      @Micmeat Місяць тому +1

      Can't you get extra solo revives on any Map. I had it just happen on gk. Just thought it was rare.

    • @sonicthehedge
      @sonicthehedge Місяць тому

      @@Micmeat I think from Origins onwards it can happen very rarely but thats because the Wunderfizz works exactly like the Mystery Box but for perks giving random perks that are and aren't in the map.
      However in all the other ZC maps, There is only one Wunderfizz in the entire map and it only gives a random perk not in the map for example Ascension's Wunderfizz only gives either Double Tap or Deadshot, once you get those two perks you can no longer use the Wunderfizz (Pretty helpful on Ascension due to the Monkeys stealing your perks and they can't attack the Wunderfizz). There is no Wunderfizz on Moon nor Shangri La because all perk's vending machines are in the map. For some reason, Electric Cherry on ZC is only obtainable in Origins like BO2.
      Back to Nacht, since that is the only map to not have any perks aside from Mule Kick which was a BO1 addition. I guess the devs forgot to limit the times Quick Revive can appear on Solo plays. I've been able to get like 6 Quick Revives before getting bored or too late, ending the game on the 50s or 60s

    I heavily disagree that Widow's Wine is better than Winter's Wail, it's a direct upgrade in nearly every way. There's a lot of info about Winter's that you didn't bring up that makes it much stronger.
    1. At the end of a round, ALL charges for Winter's Wail replenish automatically, unlike Widow's, which can only generate 2 new grenades at the beginning of the round. Max Ammos also apply to Winter's like it does Widow's.
    2. Winter's actually does zero damage. This sounds like a con, but it's actually a good thing, as you don't need to worry about throwing out your safety net to keep the zombie safe. You can passively get new charges endlessly, so when you're on an EE step you can use as many as you can charge, unlike Widow's which has a finite supply in a round without spawning a Max via Gobblegum.
    3. Winter's doesn't activate as soon as you get touched, but rather when you're half health. This, again, seems like a bad thing at face value, but it again means you won't accidentally waste charges when you weren't in any danger at all.
    4. The MODIFIER. The extra ice storm you get that lingers around you pretty much guarantees escape out of bad situations like 9 times out of 10. It's one of the best Modifiers in the entire game. Even when I want to die after a high round attempt, I just sit there and they STILL can't kill me, it's insane.
    I would actually argue that Winter's has a higher uptime than Widow's for these reasons. You get all 3-4 at the beginning of every round AND with every Max Ammo, they won't activate at useless moments, won't kill the zombie when you wanted to keep it, They charge over time passively instead of being tied to how many grenades you have, and it has a Modifier that gives you even more safety. The only reasons I can think of to prefer Widow's is if you like actually throwing the Widow's grenades directly at the zombies, or if you like the extra melee damage.
    There are so many times where I'm in the middle of a high round on BO3 and I have absolutely zero Widow's grenades left because of how often they will just proc whenever you get tapped, and have to play around me not having my safety net. Meanwhile Winter's is a "buy it and forget it", I basically always have charges at all times because of the higher frequency and less overall activations.

Adding it into newer games would make them extremely easy because any damage you take is mitigated and a literal fucking Semtex grenade is blown. 4:25 I’ll make a counterargument and point out that (even if I hate BO4) Winter’s Wail is actually *better* than Widow’s Wine. At base, it activates after you’re hit below full health, meaning you won’t have annoying moments where a stray zombie hits you and wastes a charge. In addition, the recharge rate (particularly post patch) is particularly helpful in longer rounds since it means you’ll likely have more than 4 charges used throughout a singular round, whereas Widows pitters out in high rounds since you get no regen without starting a new round, getting a Max Ammo or getting a Widows powerup (which can be risky to do).
    The modifier takes it even further and better, though: you get a whole four charges just like Widow’s, and your blasts last longer as an AoE rather than an instant charge, meaning zombies that get even close to hitting you again will be much less threatening. Combine this with Quick Revive’s health regen boost and you almost guarantee that you won’t unnecessarily waste 2 charges in one emergency situation, whilst Widows can still lose you two grenades if you get tapped by a second zombie that missed the first blast.
    6:10 Conversely, as much as I love Cold War, Frost Blast isn’t as good as Winter’s Wail, though arguably(?) better than Widow’s Wine. On paper, it should be stronger; it still has the AoE of Winter’s Wail, doesn’t mandate a perk slot, AND lets you instakill any basics hit by it. But in practice its manual activation’s both a blessing and curse in that you remove any “accidental” activations but also forces you to be the one to activate it in panic situations, which can get you killed if you hesitate. That, combined with the fact it had to compete with really good field upgrades like Ring of Fire, Healing Aura, and Tesla Storm makes it so much less used than its ancestors…

    Like many in the comments I’m going to also say winters wail was just a better version of widows win.
    There’s already a few comments that explain why but I’ll summarise.
    After it’s buffs it’s now got 3 charges (4 if it’s the modified version) with a 60 second recharge rate. That recharge rate in actual practise is more than fine. You shouldn’t be getting hit so often and as a result you should never find yourself in a situation where you don’t have at least one charge especially on the more spacious training spots.
    The player has more control over its activation because instead of consuming a charge when hit you need to have less than full hp for it to activate. This means one off hits won’t waste a charge for no reason like wine does. Again it’s just far better.
    It’s aoe effect is powerful fully freezing zombies around you making them incapable of doing anything. It’s also got a larger aoe effect all together fully capable of slowing down entire hoards.
    Finally when it’s the modified version you slow anything approaching you once a charge has been activated. This modifier is one of the best in the game because it’s just so damn strong. A genuine life saver.
    Ohh and don’t forget you get all charges back at the start of the round, it refills with max ammo and between that and it’s passive recharge timer you’ll have it available far more than you did wine. Plus with how powerful and plentiful equipment is in bo4 it’s a good thing you didn’t have to replace the equipment for spider grenades
    Winters wail is still unfairly judged based on its launch state. It’s been buffed so much there’s genuinely little reason to believe wine is better. Unless you liked throwing grenades or just liked the spider theme of the perk the only real reason left to believe it’s better than wail is pure nostalgia or bias.
    I love both perks but wail is genuinely just better.
    Ps: speed cola has been in bo4 since launch. It’s on every modifier, activates once you have all 4 perks so in practise it’s kinda like getting a 5th perk for free.

    What? Winters wail was the best perk in bo4. You got 4 charges that came back quickly and just one charge would freeze every zombie even slightly close to you for like 5 seconds straight. Not to mention the explosion would only trigger when you were below max life which is INSANE. With widows wine the grenades were usually wasted from a stray zombie hit, but nearly every explosion was life saving with winters wail. Saying it wasn’t good in bo4 after the buffs is just wrong. Normally, when someone makes a dead wrong analysis of the perk system in BO4, I move on with my day. But it borders on malpractice to make the assertions you do about Winter's Wail. You use the patch notes and descriptions of the launch condition of the game, which was responsive to player feedback such that it took less than one week for the perk to take its current form. Yet you describe it as though it was an outright assault on the idea of Widow's Wine to make the changes, and worse, that the eventual state the perk found itself in was only the result of negative feedback, as though the developers only changed it out of shame, and it leaves the impression that the perk is still "as bad as it was at launch," which you know isn't true. Never mind that your evaluation of it is flawed. Widow's replacing the grenade slot in BO3 worked fine for that game, where equipment was a joke and grenades were only ever thrown in pure ammo desperation or to make a crawler. In all the games after BO3, equipment became something you actually desired, something you would use as a part of your regular arsenal to tackle the undead, and thus removing the equipment slot in BO4, which already combined lethal and tactical into one, would make less than no sense. It refills upon a max ammo, which you completely failed to mention, and in your haste to compare the two, you wind up forgetting one of the core mechanics of Widow's Wine: lethality. Those grenades would do damage over time to any zombies ensnared, and because this had the proclivity to end people's rounds when they were trying to focus on Easter egg steps, dominant strategy would be to simply throw them away and forgo their defensive utility entirely. Winter's Wail solves this by removing its damage, increasing the time a zombie is stationary, delaying the trigger so that any hit which is incidental to your train wouldn't constantly drain your charges, and allowing you to keep your now much more valuable equipment to hand. This is such a terrible assessment of both the initial perk and its immediate successor that I felt compelled to leave this essay for anyone in the comments who wants to actually learn how these games work in detail, not the loose rememberings of someone who hasn't touched the games he wants to critique in ages.

    Firstly, there are no such things as "crutch perks" as the perk locations and usage is always by design and isn't like a MP loadout in a PvP setting. Secondly, Widows Wine certainly isn't a "crutch perk" because it's still not worth having over the main four perks, and even when you do grab it, it's a utility like any other perk would be, rather than a deliberate direct upgrade like the main four.

      Crutch perks comes from the PvP component of these games as back then, the perks rarely were patched or balanced in the games can often be nigh-unplayable without them, which is significantly worse in a PvP environment.
      In Zombies, Jugg, Revive, Speed and Double Tap are not intended to be optional, you are always guided to them via the map's design and signaling, where the weaker accessory perks are always put in more obvious places or in the Wonderfizz in BO3.
