  • Mike was nice enough to give me a tour of his very own custom tiny home on wheels. I have done a ton of tours over the years and I must say, this one was probably my favorite.

    Ok!...I acknowledge I have “ah” problem!😂 I’m really going to try to work on that. But first, wanted to say thanks to everyone who, ah, took the time to check out this video and offered a comment or two ;) I appreciate what everyone has to say. The kind words and even the critical. Makes for good conversations. Chris and I filmed this conversation on the fly with the camera rolling as we chatted away. To those few with rude or insulting comments...I guess I’ll default to the old saying...”If you’ve got nothing nice or productive to say, just say nothing at all”. Just carry on to the next video. All that said, Overland Expo was a great time! The venue was well organized and very well attended.
    If anyone has any questions feel free to ask away or send me a message.
    Peace ✌️ and safe on the road :)

    This expedition was designed right and includes all you would need. I love the fact that the window panes don't break. I always said my off road vehicle would include good dependable security . I want to know while I am sleeping a break-in cannot occur. My parents have heavy duty manual locks on the inside of their motorhome. These days live , love , play safe !

    "it's how fast you can stop it". I APPLAUD your focus on SAFETY. I'm an experienced OTR semi truck driver with Schneider. And the thing they always teach and what is first and foremost on my mind, every single time I got in that truck was this.
    1. I'm an 80,000 missile heading down the road. SAFETY, ATTENTION, AWARENESS
    2. YOU are RESPONSIBLE for everyone and everything around you. As a married man with 3 children I envisioned a minivan full of families and my own driving next to me at all times.
    3. I NEVER was on the phone while driving, regardless of hands free or through the radio. When you're talking to someone on the phone your mind can wander.

Watching your bathroom/toilet tour...what is the usage (days) capacity of the cassette and are there odour issues? My personal brainstorm was...install a Thetford cassette system...and swap out my black tank for another fresh water...x2 my capacity.

    Nice , I like the idea of having the bed up over a dinette. One thing we have found out is it’s nice to have enough seating for four with a large enough table even if you don’t use it all the time . Solar , I would never get another unit without it . It works so good and is basically maintenance free .

    Kind of the swiss army knife of outdoor exploration vehicles. Always interesting seeing how systems have improved and advanced on RV's. Not really my cup of tea but I understand why someone would desire it. It is also interesting how people don't grasp some simple concepts behind how this truck is used and built. MPG is not really a concern for someone who can afford something like this and it is actually a lot better than a 33' gasser hauling a jeep.

    I have been designing a layout in my head for a van conversion and like you I have never understood why a drop down bed over a seating area isn't done more often. Seems to make a lot of sense to me. Maybe I need to make one.

    • @rd4660
      @rd4660 4 роки тому +1

      I have a Fuso-based rig with a permanent bed aft and a dining area forward. We find that frequently one person may be napping in the bed (or reading) while the other is sitting at the dinette. No matter how big or small a rig is, space is always at a premium, so you really have to think through your intended use before committing to one design or another. The biggest consideration is how many people will be traveling in the truck. IMO, any more than two people in a truck causes space conflicts that really detract from your experience. A drop down bed, or better described as a stow away bed, takes away your sleeping/napping option in exchange for additional seating. But why? I think you’ll find that most of the time you’ll want to sit OUTSIDE, not inside. The only exception I can think of to convertible furniture would be a small van or Sprinter sized rig where space is at a super premium. In that case, stowing a bed for more day seating or storage, may be the way to go. YMMV.

    • @johnbrewer1430
      @johnbrewer1430 3 роки тому

      You could have one built. In the US, you would need to get a pre 2007 chassis, so that the new emission standard wouldn't apply. Basically you would need a diesel that had a mechanical lift pump, injector pump and mechanical injectors. Once you get it running it's going to keep running, even if you lost the alternator. Now the glow plug relay may be fried and if you shut it off, it won't work for cold starting. Having a can of starting fluid and KNOWING how to use it, so that you don't blow your engine is also a necessity. If have electronic anything, you may loose it, including the transmission. EMP proof vehicle is mechanical everything in the engine bay and non-electronic transmission or a manual transmission. BTW there is a way to EMP harden a vehicle, but I won't go into all of that here. Too much to post.

    A very nice display of technology integrated into a 12 ton overlander. I’m not so sure I’d take it very far off road because if you get it stuck up to the axels, who will be able to pull it out? That being said, this build pushes technological applications so the *rest of us* can benefit from lower prices eventually. And the build kept a bunch of skilled craftsmen employed. I’m all for rich guys spending their money!!

    I'm curious as to the speed rating on those tires. He said he can go 80 and that seems fast for tires that size.

    I'm somewhat concerned about the just under 4000W hair dryer...That's not residential. Residential is limited to 1800W because that's all a 15A residential circuit can handle. Does she bring along a commercial sit-down hair dryer?

    The Taj Mahal on wheels. I think every sheikh wants one. You need to own an oil well to buy one of these. Thank god I don't have this gigantic thing on my driveway. Its too big, and too much for me. Plus the more you own, the more things to look after. My new motto is - own less and be happier.
    What is the purpose after all? Is it to see the world or have something so complicated, big, gas guzzling, that you spend your time maintaining it, feeding the beast, tinkering with it, fixing it, adding more electronic gear or gizmos and not seeing the world. Travel small and travel light. My motto. In this van, there is no room for adventure.
    But everyone has their way to travel. This thing is a beast with every luxury and appointment. Its very comfortable inside, but I feel very glad I have a small 22 ft Class C, very manageable size, on my driveway. Happy travels Mike! Thanks for the tour. I am happy for you, but for once, I am very happy with mine too.

    I can't seem to find the opening wall window at 18:29 anywhere on the web. Is there a manufacture for that type of window?

      That window-wall is probably made upon owner’s request. The channel “Living an Giving 4x4” has one too, slightly bigger, if memory serves me right.

    Hey, it's your site. Don't pay attention to the criticism. This thing is amazing, but the mileage will break the bank and the upfront cost isn't for the average person. I've seen versions of these on our travels and while they are cool/neat, I personally think they are far out of reach of average people. Of course, if your intent is to live in one 24/7 and sell everything you have, great. I think in the end the adventure this rig offers will be overshadowed by the drain on your bank account.
