My heart genuinely aches when I think about how DC3 is likely never going to happen. It's like something very precious missing from my life, like I actually grieve over it.. lol. Maybe a bit dramatic, but it's true. These games are so close to my heart, the nostalgia and memories that come back every time I play it is insane.

Dark Chronicle (Dark Cloud 2) was one of my favourite games on the ps2 back in the day. If a new, similar game came from level5 and was released on a new, more modern platform, I bet it'd be a huge success. That said, it'd be even better if graphics were elevated to a currently competitive level.
I'm almost in my 40's now, so I rarely play video games anymore, but if Level-5 game developers created Dark Cloud 3 I'd buy it just to support the Dark Cloud franchise an all the people who loved Dark Cloud as much as I did.👍💯💯💯
Rogue Galaxy was such a masterpiece man, i remembered playing it for the first time and can't stop for the first 6 hours, it's just sad that the don't the sequel for that game.
How do you think this is a masterpiece? Maybe it’s just me, but I had to spend hours running back and forth in each area JUST to be able to stay on the curve. I never had to do that for either of the Dark Cloud games. And the dungeons were randomized, so grinding wasn’t completely boring. But in this game, it’s not randomized. It’s just a slog where nothing is balanced.
@@michaellane4054 It was a masterpiece. How would anyone think that it is not. Everything you described is exactly how the dark cloud games were. Your experience is the exception of a few.
Dark cloud 2 is a game that will live in my heart FOREVER. I took the fish racing mini game to a whole other level. I found i spent a lot of time fishing, feeding, mating, and racing the fish. I play on xbox now but if dark cloud 3 would ever be released i would actually buy a playstation. The "invention" feature was a ingenious way to make items. Everything about this game was amazing.
its crazy to know that if they where to release a DC3 this year or 2024 even just how much money they would make off of it. This formula they used for DC1 and 2 would be insanely popular again. no games since have truly adopted this style since and bringing it back would be a massive hit with fans and make insane amounts of money...but sadly sony like many others are so out of sync with fans its crazy..
Never had to play DC1 but was able to play DC2. I finished it! enjoy every bits of this game can offer from soundtrack to story line basically everything! I love this game even its really old now. I was a high school student when I played this game and now a grown ass adult and still waiting for a new sequel for this game. I'm still hoping for DC3 since they manage to put DC2 on PS4. Maybe if there's a huge demand on this game after PS4 release they might decide to make DC3 but I would not hope for too much. This game is such a master piece to me even comparing to games developed today. I'm actually surprised that there are still people passionate about this series I thought it was forgotten by many.

I've never heard of Rogue Galaxy, but knowing how it was almost DC3 makes me pretty curious to try it out now! Shame that Level 5 has ceased overseas operations though...
It's definitely worth trying out. I'd rank it around a 7/10. I myself couldn't get into it as much, also don't have much nostalgia value since I didn't play it as a kid lol.
I want somebody to just make a spiritual successor to this game like it feels like you're playing a dark cloud game but it's not dark cloud the randomized dungeon building your own village and time travel.
Stories like this one, with semi-random, one-off quotes from developers and data mined file names as clues to prove there was at least a start to development of a game, always makes me think, how many titles that could turn out as amazing games have never seen the light of the day.
All for a mediocre game that never got a sequel. I bought this game because I could feel something that felt like Dark Cloud in it, but they completely bastardized whatever survived into something that wasn’t fun. It isn’t fun to run around a dungeon for hours just so you can do damage to the enemies!
The Dark Cloud games are my favorite series of games, and I’ve played through them idk how many times. Played them on ps2, ps4, and now ps5. Dark Cloud 1, and Dark Cloud 2 were honestly two of the best games ever made! In my opinion they were up there with Legend Of Zelda for the n64 and Suikoden for PS1 because of the storylines in them. That's what makes a great game, and videogames nowadays totally lack that!
I remember being excited for Rogue Galaxy when I heard about it. It thought it would be part Dark Cloud, part Skies of Aracadia, two of my favorite games! Sadly, it was neither. One of the few games I put down maybe even more than half way through because I simply wasn't enjoying it.

I would literally pay to have a Dark Cloud 3! Rogue Galaxy for me was fun for the first half of the game, but the connection with the characters and storyline was overwhelming and too serious. I feel like they lost the beautiful simplicity that Dark Cloud had. It was like it lost the magic from the previous two games. I highly recommend Dragon Quest XI. I have put over 300+ hours in on my first play through, now on my second with about 460 hours.
i remember my mom randomly buying me dark cloud 2 from some blockbuster going out of business or something and I was instantly hooked. couldn't help but buy a strategy guide for a 100% completionist run, but never finished that last optional dungeon. i still love the game, hope for a third title, and plan on returning to dc2 to complete it in its entirety.
@@ThanatosTheDH Hopefully they will some day :) I wonder what caused them to do that in the first place. They've always wanted to achieve more in the US, but yeah maybe Sony has something to do with it.
In this era of reboots, remakes, and remasters, Dark Cloud is ripe for a relaunch. If a new title were to be made, it'd most likely be made after Sony purchases level-5 outright because then they'd need every IP to make profit off the deal. Sony would also have the ability to send the development out of house to any company in North America which gets rid of the co-owmed problem. I also think if Sony were to launch a future gen hand held console to compete with Nintendo dark cloud would work as a title sense it gives them their own Zelda.
Agreed, it's recognizable to many PS2 fans and would definitely attract the current day gaming crowd with it's building and dungeon crawling. Maybe even with a rogue like element to it.
I'm surprised so many people remember this game. I'm Korean and it's a game I played as a kid, so I found this video while searching. I hope Dark Cloud 3 comes out.
Turning Dark Cloud 3 to Rogue Galaxy was one of the best decisions. I loved DC2 but the world, the story, the characters and Gamplay was superior in Rogue Galaxy. The best PS2 Title I ever played
It would be interesting to see new ideas implemented in this series if they made Dark cloud 3. The spheda game/rewards was one of the best things that came into the series and added a new level of fun. I always check to see any new updates on Dark cloud 3 and this was very informative, You did a great job.
At 4:46 you can see the iconic two moons from Dark Cloud. The larger yellow one, and the smaller blue one. I didnt get the chance to play Rogue Galaxy, but I assume the moons are unique to Dark Cloud. I know the ending of Dark Cloud 2 means the blue moon would be gone, so it probably wouldnt have been a sequel.
I don't mind if they don't make a DC3. We already got a lot of good games from Level-5 themselves. But it's sad we may not get any US releases anymore....
Hey Shaz! What do you think of Rogue Galaxy? I just started the video so not sure if you covered it. That game was initially going to be DC3 but allegedly, Sony asked for so many changes that they eventually just switched it to a new IP - but the references are there to the point I do consider it a genuine spiritual successor. Edit: oh, there it is. Lol. You know your stuff and your love for the DC games is awesome.
Yep lol, got a good bit of info on it in there :) Rogue Galaxy is a really good RPG, definitely worth trying out. Those opening scenes of Jaster looking into space really got me into it. Pretty good characters, and battle mechanics
For anyone who plays tabletop rpgs, how easy would elements of Dark Cloud carry over? I imagine it might be....interesting to figure out how Georama could work, especially if the Atlamillia is being held by one or two party members. And balancing hunger/stamina.
Thankfully them pulling out of NA is not that worrying. With modern practices and online contractors it has become FAR more common to just hire people for said games.
The game rogue galaxy/earliër development dark cloud 3, still has an extra reference to dark cloud 2/ dark chronicle! Other than the early found dc3 name files. The ghost kid in Steve is Max, from dark cloud 2 better known as Maximilian! You guys never noticed? I noticed it right away when i first played Rogue galaxy when it was released back then, and saw the ghost kid coming out when Steve contacted the doctor. His father. Also more references as being dark cloud 3 to dark cloud 1&2 are the copy "purple" atla stone on the arm of Seed that was made from the human dna data on the tablet, and actually had to be the Atla stone to use in georama to build/solve the portal to eden. And Jaster, after beïng turned into the Eden soldier/ star god, and opened the gate of eden, they talk about a legend of the star god. Able to move entire cities. Well guess what, you had to place/move buildings and create cities in georama in dc 1&2. So the star god was actually Toan in dark cloud 1 /maximilian dc2 or that wizard in dc 1? With the help of the atla stone. There you have it. Rogue galaxy ACTUALLY is dark cloud 3/ dark chronicle 2(as being a sequel to dark chronicle/dark cloud 2). Just look at it the way they changed dark cloud 2 to dark chronicle in the EU. I also forgot to mention, the flying moon ship you unlock in dark cloud 1 for flying to yellow drops? The moon? That is also used in rogue galaxy as a transport for flying to other planets.
Had a demo of dark cloud when I was little on ps2. I always knew I'd love it but never got to play it, I can play it now on my ps4 but I just wont. I hope they make a DC3 if not I guess I'll just settle with Zelda Botw 2 to scratch that nostalgic itch.😔
Definitely worth revisiting :) Dark cloud 2 as well. I still have some of my demo disc collection. Something about playing games on old demo discs definitely makes it more special.
Late to the party but Level-5 were the RPG Gods by the end. So disappointing we probably won't see DC3 though, I am still hurting that we won't get WKC3 lol. I'd also love a Rogue Galaxy 2! (can u imagine this on todays hardware? the no load times was ahead of it's time back then). I remember been too young to be able to afford a PS2 for DC back then. Borrowed a PS2 for a few weeks and rented DC over and over and was trying to come up with all sorts of ways I could make money so I could buy a PS2 lol. Around 3 years later when I was a bit older I could finally afford one. The first thing I did was buy DC and FFX and by that point DC was very cheap :D
im thinking about if rogue galaxy had town building elements to it like if the jungle didnt have clearings and you hade to make em yourself or if his mother used her georama powers to hide herself and he had to rearange his home planet to bring her back etc
The biggest issue is that level 5 just doesn't get what its fans want. If they had ever put white knight chronicles on new gen they probably wouldn't have had to shut down their American place of business. Dark cloud 3 could have also saved their asses.
Funny that the producer said he wanted to create something that a lot of users would play, yet going away from DC3 probably ruined any hope of the title becoming a worldwide success. Ironic.
Dude you are missing out! The story is absolutely amazing. I didn't spend much time doing the stuff you do on the side because I wanted to get through the story, but man it's amazing
I am replaying DC2 with some handicaps to make it more challenging and finally going to get all the medals for monster transformation badges. That are the few things I never did
@@Shaztopia1 I've been desperately trying to mod Dark Chronicle to bring new life to the game! Ive been playing it since the game came out and I was teenager, Ive been praying to be alive to play Dark cloud 3, I so hope it happens. Game was a gem.
Sounds to me like the odds of DC3 getting made are pretty slim if it's dependent on Sony because of joint ownership. Then again, if DC2 proves really popular on PSNow, there might be a shot at a sequel or perhaps a remake/ remaster. Valkyria Chronicles was saved that way, after all, and remakes of old popular games are starting to rise.
That would be wild lol, first things first - buy it to make Dark Cloud 3! I'd take anything though. Although releasing on the Switch is the most unlikely thing, imagine the fans it would bring.
It’s a little funny how I found DC2 on the store I saw the title “dark chronicle” and told my dad “that a DC sequel!” He said “but the title is wrong” I said “are you blind or something? look the letters! It’s the same font!” When I got home to play it I was like “am I smarter than him? Or is he more stupid than me?” It’s sad how it’s been 14 years and I’m still not cleared the game since it’s in Japanese and I still have it
Ah man good thing you got it, but yeah it's definitely tougher to play in Japanese. Especially if you're not familiar. Can always get it on PS4 if you'd want to play in English :)
I remember that interview from White Knight Chronicles. I was so hyped to get a new Dark Cloud and they come out with WKC 1 and 2 😔. Both games were medicore. I was profoundly disappointed. Only indies could revive Dark Cloud (by making a spiritual succeessor). Level 5 will never do it. We'll all die before anything happens.
Ive given up on that dream a long time ago, it will never happen. Especially since they are not publishing their games outside of Japan anymore. I dont want it to be true, but its pretty much over.
Maybe not, and I can accept that. The first 2 games have so much content to them, and I can't imagine a DC3 would capture the PS2 style accurately. Either way I'd still like to see DC3 ofc, all we can do is wait.
the ending of dark cloud 2 probably gave the hint saying dark cloud 3 wont be made. dark element absorbed the 3 atlamillias to manifest. apon defeating dark element you broke the stones. the atlamillia were a big part with the ability to create, time travel, etc. i dont think DC3 will ever get made because level 5 intended to conclude the entire story with DC2.
Rogue Galaxy gives me conniptions. I'm still salty the mascot frog thing took my starter weapon to just demonstrate weapon fusion. I couldn't even buy a replacement. F you frog, I wanted to see its max stats before I start tinkering... 2/10 game >:o
I hope if they do make a game, it's more like a spiritual successor to avoid the IP stuff with Sony. Maybe that won't turn out great like the other spiritual successors of late, but it's wishful thinking that if they ever tried that it would be good.
If getting DC3 is Sony's call the best way it make it happen would be to get a lot of purchases and/or likes for DC 1 and 2 on the psn store. Really the only way to make another seem profitable
its like level 5 just hates their fans. every single interview the question comes up "whens dark cloud 3?" and for twenty years the answer has been "oh well were working on white kngith right now" or "were working on dragonquest 500 right now" its like... the one game their entire fan base keeps demanding and they just refuse to make it. WHY WOULD WE WANT YOUR MONEY
Nah I wouldn't say they hate their fans. It's just something very difficult to pull off. Their employees have to convince upper management and Sony to do it. Dark Cloud is an older game and doesn't have the popularity that their most recent works do. It's a big financial matter.

This is a fantastic video!
Excellent info, thanks for doing this research and compacting here for an easy to understand and absorb vid man.
U bet, this was a fun one to make!
Honestly I had never heard of this game until recently but It sounds really cool!
The Dark Cloud series is definitely worth checking out :) Same with Rogue Galaxy.
Thank you, I appreciate it :) maybe I will do another Dark Cloud 3 video about these kind of ideas.
After fully Completing DC/DC2
Ready for DC3
At 4:46 you can see the iconic two moons from Dark Cloud. The larger yellow one, and the smaller blue one. I didnt get the chance to play Rogue Galaxy, but I assume the moons are unique to Dark Cloud. I know the ending of Dark Cloud 2 means the blue moon would be gone, so it probably wouldnt have been a sequel.
I really want a Dark Cloud 3 like the first Dark Cloud. The second release is too much cartoon-ish IMHO.
This!!
Ya Dark Cloud 1s charm and style is very appreciated
I don't mind if they don't make a DC3. We already got a lot of good games from Level-5 themselves. But it's sad we may not get any US releases anymore....
Thanks for doing the research!
You bet :) a lot of my info is also from Hiddencastle and other interviews I linked in the vid description.
The ending left me broken. 20 years later I have a yearning for DC3. :(
I miss this game. My favourite game of all time is DC2. I will support DC3 anytime if it ever comes.
The first thing I did was buy DC and FFX and by that point DC was very cheap :D
im thinking about if rogue galaxy had town building elements to it
like if the jungle didnt have clearings and you hade to make em yourself or if his mother used her georama powers to hide herself and he had to rearange his home planet to bring her back etc
Ah it would've been such a nice addition! I still enjoy the game for what it is though
The biggest issue is that level 5 just doesn't get what its fans want. If they had ever put white knight chronicles on new gen they probably wouldn't have had to shut down their American place of business. Dark cloud 3 could have also saved their asses.
They only make Yo-kai Watch and Inazuma Eleven now, they're a dead company in the West
increible video una lastima que dark cloud no le den lo que se merece gracias por la traduccion
Funny that the producer said he wanted to create something that a lot of users would play, yet going away from DC3 probably ruined any hope of the title becoming a worldwide success. Ironic.
That's how it goes sometimes. Although Kentaro put in tons of effort and sacrifices, he doesn't have control over it all.
I have never played Rogue Galaxy when I was young. When I have nothing to play I'll try It for sure! 😉
It's pretty good, I really like the themes of the planets. Good combat, soundtrack, RPG elements all around.
That are the few things I never did
Same, gotta love that trophy support. That was a dream come true when they released it like that.
So not only will we not get a Dark Cloud 3, but we won't see remakes/remasters of the first two either. Damn...
It's still possible :) they could hire a localization team if anything new comes out.
I know in dark cloud 2 monica and max’s story was concluded but I wouldn’t mind another adventure with the duo
I think they'd have to start fresh with DC3, but I'd definitely have no complaints seeing them again.
Loved theses games !!
Please give me more hehe!
Great video friend =3
Thank you :) there will be a follow up and a few more Dark Cloud vids from me in the future!
@@Shaztopia1 I've been desperately trying to mod Dark Chronicle to bring new life to the game!
I really want to change the enemy spawns or stats or both, It would be super fun to play with harder or more/different enemies!
Ill look forward to your videos! your content is very high quality!
I hope you have a wonderful day =3
@@x057wind Thank you for your interest :) I hope you have a wonderful day as well. If you're interested, there is a Dark Cloud Discord server. There is someone creating a Dark Cloud 2 randomizer mod and a difficulty mod.

@@Shaztopia1 Thank you so much! I joined it and I'll take a look around =3
I just searched this today. O: What are the odds?
Maybe it can happen like slime rancher 2 but what fan is that brave?
The games will always be special to me.
Both 1 and 2 are some of my top all time favorite games, could never forget them!
How can i search darkcloud community?
Not sure what exactly you mean, but we're still very active on reddit: www.reddit.com/r/DarkCloud/
and Discord! discord.com/invite/AVyfstpPgR
Theres a game that's a bit similar to DC ,that might come out its called.
Little devil inside
Just searched for that, and I like the looks of it :o Will be waiting for that!
I wish level would buy the rights, remaster their games, and release them on the Switch. Cha-ching!
That would be wild lol, first things first - buy it to make Dark Cloud 3! I'd take anything though. Although releasing on the Switch is the most unlikely thing, imagine the fans it would bring.
@@Shaztopia1 putting anything on the switch would make it explode!
It’s a little funny how I found DC2 on the store
I saw the title “dark chronicle” and told my dad “that a DC sequel!” He said “but the title is wrong”
I said “are you blind or something? look the letters! It’s the same font!” When I got home to play it I was like “am I smarter than him? Or is he more stupid than me?”
It’s sad how it’s been 14 years and I’m still not cleared the game since it’s in Japanese and I still have it
Ah man good thing you got it, but yeah it's definitely tougher to play in Japanese. Especially if you're not familiar. Can always get it on PS4 if you'd want to play in English :)
Just go the platnium for this game over the weekend. Started it 7/8/2021 was a great journey. Been debating if DC2 is worth it.
I think they should go back a bit to the dark cloud 1 formula, with more roguelike elements like the thirst system and whatnot.
the ending of dark cloud 2 probably gave the hint saying dark cloud 3 wont be made. dark element absorbed the 3 atlamillias to manifest. apon defeating dark element you broke the stones. the atlamillia were a big part with the ability to create, time travel, etc. i dont think DC3 will ever get made because level 5 intended to conclude the entire story with DC2.
Rogue Galaxy gives me conniptions. I'm still salty the mascot frog thing took my starter weapon to just demonstrate weapon fusion. I couldn't even buy a replacement. F you frog, I wanted to see its max stats before I start tinkering... 2/10 game >:o
Just got rogue galaxy in the mail yesterday
I hope if they do make a game, it's more like a spiritual successor to avoid the IP stuff with Sony. Maybe that won't turn out great like the other spiritual successors of late, but it's wishful thinking that if they ever tried that it would be good.
I want an unreal engine remake of the first one with all the content we know is missing! Plus some gameplay enhancments
Excuses. They could just release a Dark Cloud 3, but call it something else like FromSoftware did with Dark Souls after Demon's Souls.
If getting DC3 is Sony's call the best way it make it happen would be to get a lot of purchases and/or likes for DC 1 and 2 on the psn store. Really the only way to make another seem profitable
Dude imagine a modern action RPG open world Dark Cloud 3.
Make a Dark Cloud 1+2 and Rogue Galaxy HD remake for pc plz!
its like level 5 just hates their fans. every single interview the question comes up "whens dark cloud 3?" and for twenty years the answer has been "oh well were working on white kngith right now" or "were working on dragonquest 500 right now" its like... the one game their entire fan base keeps demanding and they just refuse to make it.
If it comes to be, I don't think I'll have ever bought a game as fast as that one.
I myself would definitely buy multiple copies o-o
18:57 Pssh. Look at this amateur actually pushing the arrows.
Have you played Inazuma Eleven
Sadly I have not, never really got into it.
I suggest fans better ask sony to make dark cloud 3
Definitely! Send some letters to Sony, and Level-5 too!
Where is our game! Making me want to invest in a group of dreamers to create it.
Maybe it's a fantasy that existed only in a boy's heart 🥺
Its called Rogue Galaxy
Why won’t Sony agree to it ?
