I love these Duels because they show Toan's agility and Swordfighting skills off way more than the actual gameplay does, they also show him to be a quick learner, for example, he learns after that first duel against the Master Jacket that Jump Slashes are a stupid swordfighting technique that doesn't actually work, so he never does it again. If it weren't for these scenes I'd have a hard time believing Toan is worthy of the Atlamillia, or that he's destined to defeat the Dark Genie
Literally just typed a similar comment on one of these videos. For me the duals show off his skills and give him more character. I remember seeing the first dual as a kid and it was amazing to see that Toan could hang like that🔥
The robot fighting the Dark Genie was meant to be the final duel of the game if I recall correctly, a nice climactic battle to start off the last chapter of the game.
I went back to playing some games from long way back and generally speaking, they have some kind of air about them that many games nowadays don't... a soul perhaps.
For me it was the Anime Style and Soundtrack Aesthetic. It has that 90s air even though this came out in 2001. But im glad i was able to expirence this gem as a innocent boi
In Dark Heaven Castle we could have had two more floors, one as a duel with the female cursed witch dancer and another perhaps against another monster or something, even just tge one would have been neat
I was able to do that part perfectly every time, though I'm on an emulator with a PS4 controller. Are you trying on an actual PS2, with a legit PS2 Controller? That might be trickier, I'd keep trying with the d-pad hitting the top and left buttons with your thumb.
These duel sequences were embedded in my mind since 7 years old. So great and undescribable feeling now seeing it HD remastered and all. The Goro duel was ALWAYS a unfair at times sequence 🤣😂🤣 Like a "try THIS!" unexpected moment
Playing this at 8 years old was one of my favorite child hood memories. My dad put me on to this masterpiece of a game and I played it for months. They just don't make them like this anymore.
Heres a little tip in dueling the Ledgendary Snake that I unfortunately learned the hard way. If you don't equip Toan (or whatever you named him) with the Serpent Slicer Sword before the cutscene starts, than you are going to lose this duel/fight no matter how well you do as apparently ONLY the Serpent Slicer Sword can kill this snake. Any other swords no matter how strong they are will not work on that snake.😒 (Also as this video show's, you can't evolve the Serpent Slicer Sword untill AFTER you kill the snake).
I remember getting eaten by the snake…let me just say it disturbed me. The sounds and reading what happened to him caught me way off guard lol. Love this game!!

It’s kind of cool to see Toan grow into such a badass over the course of the adventure. These duels really cement that.
The goro scene really showed off Toan’s superiority. The way he dodged those swings were impeccable, I can see why he was chosen 😮💯
If they ever do a remake they need to do a ton more of these things hell a minigame where toan is dancing with everyone in his village.
A remake would be a wish come true lol, or DC3. I would hope for more duels if they ever did, but DC3 is more likely than remakes imo.
@@Shaztopia1 DC3 is possible. Level-5 wants to make a Dark Cloud 3 but Sony holds the rights i believe.

A duel with one or multiple of the dancers would've been great, there's a few missed opportunities for sure.
5:38 How did you managed to do that diagonal? I tried 6 times already with both the directional cross and the left joystick and no luck UwU

@@Shaztopia1 Thank you ^_^ I finally got it by pressing both Up & Left Arrow instead of the Joystick :P

That one took quite a few tries lol, the rest were much easier. Loved the duels in this game, such a great addition.

The Goro one was a pain in the ass because of the deadzone on the dualshock 2. You have to be very accurate with it.
It was rough on DualShock 4 as well! Took tons of tries, but got thru it.
Nice one! It brings memories 🥲
Great video man
You've got to be careful with those skeletons with shields. Makes me think they should wear pants if they can carry a shield

Probably should've kept that a secret

Is it just me or is the first duel the most interesting one? 😅
Probably the most memorable besides the Legendary Snake. First duel of the game and such a good one.
Playin it on aethersx i was able to see the cut frame when Master jacket slashes toan 💀

Is it just me or did Seda just taunt Toan at 3:22?
Criminally underused battle mechanics. Ever.
