It was Valentines day and he asked me what i was going do with my girlfriend. I told him that i was going to be working (as anyone could have noticed) and i had no time for stupid things like Valentines day. I mentioned i had no girlfriend and i wasn't looking for one, because a significant other is expensive and I am happy being single.
      Several hours later i was walking by again and he pulled me off to the side. He said, "Dates don't have to be expensive. All you need to do is find a girl and buy her a coke."

    Not sure why, but watching this film makes me realize that the teenage years are in their way an absolute emotional torture on any person going through this daunting time in life. Doesn't matter if it's a kid in the 1950's, today, 1978, or whenever. I don't care how confident the kid seems at first glance, it is hell for most young adults. Not only are you trying to fit in or be a leader or simply just get by unscathed, but in addition your body is going through its own incredible werewolf transformation featuring growth spurts, acne, puberty, periods, odors, and more. Ad a few more interesting elements like popularity and dating and trying to succeed, and the teenage life can be a massive challenge. It's a miracle most of us get through this phase in one piece, or this side of a mental sanitarium. I wouldn't want to endure that again. 😄

      It is inherently an awkward time in life. Anything that you have isn't by your own merit, hormones/ learning stuff like you said, most everybody has awkward first loves or dates probably, lots of people full of or swayed by false confidence... I'm just glad I cruised by it being the quiet kid. & was just into band/ fishing/ video games/ playing tennis later on. High school also awkward and much of the same, but at least one can drive/ work a job/ is more clear who has actual potential in life toward or by the end of that

      Yeah, you described it very well. What exists is poor people and rich people. And it will always be that way, by the way.
      If race is in any way linked to those, it has to do more with culture than racism. Asians are kicking everyone else's ass in college. Is our culture asian supremacist? No, it isn't. They have a culture where you need to work hard. Which is a better than another culture that values other things more.
      What matters is that under the law we are all equal and free to do whatever we want. That's the important thing.

    • @076657
      @076657 5 років тому +135

      Incorrect. That's a very childish view of the world.
      There's no minority that has decided anything. There's no such thing as a patriarchy where a tiny minority decided "let's not let people use the planet however they want".
      That's not how the world works.
      Laws come to existence to solve problems between people when they decided to live together in an organized manner. If there's a law saying you can't just pee on the ground, that law is there to protect the person who also uses this ground.
      We are not hunter gatherers anymore, we are too much people to have "access to the planet's resources" as you say.

    • @076657
      @076657 5 років тому +37

      I don't know about that cage of rapists, but all the rest I agree on.
      What I don't agree is the reason why. No one decided this. Once we were a bunch living in a city, it made it much easier to collaborate if we had laws.
      It's efficient, like jobs and schedules and machines, and property laws. If you want to skip all that, all you have is brute force to tale things from nature and to defend them from being robbed from you.
      You'd be miserable.

Like all you had to do basically was say “hey you want to go to this thing with me?” And if it went well, then you would ask her again. And if it wasn’t a home run, then you could just find another girl, and everything wasn’t super weird like it is now with it being a huge deal if you asked a girl out. We live in very different times due to technology (social media, dating apps etc.) and a big government (voted in primarily by women). Women consider an increasing proportion of men as beneath them and unattractive). Due to government they don't need men directly to survive (although only men are net tax payers and keep the infrastructure running).
      Also the pill allowed women to be more promiscuous which have destroyed their capacity to pair bond in a life long marriage (which have changed due to no fault divorce, alimony etc.)

      The reality though is that less than 10% of the male population served in the military, and even then, less 1/5 of that number actually saw any combat (based on stationing). Also a little known fact is that most people who served in Korea and Vietnam were volunteers. Draft dodging like suicides during Great Depression gets a lot of attention, but they actually were relatively uncommon.

    The 40's and 50's had to have been the peak of manners and dating. Notice how they ask their parents for permission? How they were both worried about being on time and afterwards he took her home and walked her to the door? Today, if a guy wants to get with you he'll send you a Twitter DM. There's no sincerity anymore. Why can't we go back to the times when you took it slow, kissing someone was a BIG DEAL. Today sex is expected from you. That's all anyone cares about. I know this video is super faked and all, but my grandfather went to my grandmothers parents and asked them if he could date their daughter. Today, some douche you've never even talked to before will message you and tell you to send nudes. It's ridiculous.

    • @oudkee5185
      @oudkee5185 8 років тому +120

      +Lauren Stanford While I agree with the thing about asking parent's permission and being on time being things that should actually happen, you're generalizing a bit too much. The chance that a guy or girl just wants sex is a good 50/50, whether you're talking about the 1940s or today. Sex is just a lot more openly accepted and talked about now than it was 70 years ago, so more people admit to wanting it and asking for it.

    • @beau9801
      @beau9801 8 років тому +38

      ***** k calm down please. If a guy/girl being old fashioned and asking permission is what floats your boat, by all means, go ahead. I'm not capable of, nor interested in restricting anyone's romantic experience.
      However, idolizing asking for parental permission takes us back to when girls were property, owned by their fathers, and they had the final say on whether or not you could date their daughters. No girl would ever ask a guy's parents if they could date, because guys were "daters", and girls were "dated". This still happens today outside America.
      By suggesting idolizing asking for parental permission is just a lil bit sexist isn't keeping anyone from doing that if they choose, but idolizing asking for parental permission, like in this video, makes not asking seem rude or outside the norm to not ask.
      TL;DR: Why don't we all just say "Do whatever you want" instead of acting like asking for permission makes you better and more polite than those darn rude young people.
