When I was in kindergarten, my mom gave me a bowl cut. A few years ago, at a long-time friend's house, I saw a cute picture of her from kindergarten, but I didn't recognize the boy she was standing with. I asked her and she could barely contain her laughter "that little boy was you!"

My mom did the same thing. But what's worse is she bought me boy jeans BC ya know they were cheaper then girl jeans. And I always would wear like tshirts with bugs bunny and taze and stuff. And my real name is literally a boys name (thanks mom and dad). All of my pictures are like, what a cute boy, nope that's me.
My horror story: I was at a hairsalon and this girl was cutting my hair, I wasn't really paying attenttion, untill I realized she was literally cutting hairs on the top of my head straight from the root. I was too shy to say anything back at her. She kept cutting, not much just little hairs in sections and her superior came to look at the situation and she was "ooo stopp, what are you doing" and the girl says she was doing like supporting hairs to make it fluffy. And her superior had to explain to her it works with short cuts and not long cuts. And I had to grow those hairs out for a year it looked crazy. I cried.

When I was a teenager, I was shy almost to the point of muteness with people I didn't know. Even being that shy, I have never, ever, _ever_ understood not stopping and correcting hairdressers when they're doing some wrong or something totally different than you told them. It baffles me.

No that was not long hair that’s short. Well for me my hair goes to my knees and it’s thick long hair. My classmates call me rapunzel (you know the Disney princess). I have never cut my hair and I’m not lying about it. I don’t want to cut my hair so my hair will never be cut I look good with long hair at least I look good. 😂

In 4th grade I went to supercuts and I wanted a Jennifer Lawrence pixie and I literally got mistaken for a little boy for so long, and then in 6th grade I cut it off again but got it done at a good hair place. I looked ok but then I tried to grow it out and so I had a mullet at some point and I wanted the back trimmed so I could grow it into a bob and the lady took out clippers and shaved off my hair in the back and i have gone through so much lol. I finally have my hair at normal length and it's taken me 6 years 😂😂

I was 12 and I wanted a trim and they cut off 6.5 inches of my hair and I didn't say anything because my mom was like "It needs to be shorter" and tears were rolling down my face and they asked if I was crying and I said that I was sweating because the damage had already been done and then I returned home and cried a ton because I looked like an egg with a little bit of hair.

Hey. Not everyone has a bad experience. I'm 15 and 6'4 and ive always had hair that reached around the bottom of my butt. Three days ago i cut it to an inch below my jaw and i will never have long hair again. It was 4 lbs of hair. I donated it and i love my hair so much now

My worst haircut was when I was 6. I went to a hairstylist and I got my hair washed and everything. Once my haircut was done I LOVED it, I CHOSE to have a bowl cut with bangs and since my hair is soooooo thick it tucked in and now that I look back on it I realized that I looked like a mushroom with bangs.
JourneyStudios this was so weird to read because that’s exactly the age when I got the SAME exact hair cut. The model in the hair magazine had a cute pixie bob and Bc my hair was sooooo thick it just poofed out like a mushroom.
A few months I thought i would look cute in side bangs, so I cut them myself and they turned out HORRIBLE I haven't told my mom yet and of course she hasn't noticed since my hair is super curly, so yeah...lets just say I haven't straightened my hair in a long time

When I was about 6-7 I got a severe skin infection and my parents had to cut all of my hair off (..tbh, it was coming off in chunks anyway...). So for the next couple of years I had this supershort hair, while my baby brother was like the most precious cherub with a head of corkscrew curls xD Imagine my face all the times some friend of our mom's started "oh darling I was pretty sure you told me your eldest child was the girl?? My worst hair experience is from 1998 when I was 17. I had dyed my hair black since I was 14. The local theater group was looking for a girl my age to play Anne in Anne of Green Gables. I really wanted to audition, so I decided to dye my hair red. I didn’t know about color lifter!! My roots dyed beautifully, but the rest of my hair stayed black. I looked like a Halloween Oreo. Needless to say, I did not audition for the part!!

When I was in kindergarten I got head lice and my mom made me get my hair cut super short so it would just be easier, my birthday party rolled around and I just looked terrifying in the pictures so yeah I hope I never get lice again

My friends gave my family lice. They were forced to cut their hair and I told my mom...never. So, we plastered some mayo in my hair for two weeks, and boom, gone. My friends' hair didn't get any better. In fact, they had mounds of lice in their hair. You could see things constantly moving. It was nasty.

Okay, so that one girl didn't have anything close to a buzz cut she had a bob. Not even that short a bob. I like long hair don't get me wrong, but why are so many women afraid of or hating on the idea of short hair. It's not like only some people can pull it off, anyone can you just have to find the best style, but I feel like short hair just looks so fresh and fun, and I hope more women feel inspired to cut there's because it really doesn't matter. I know it take a long time to grow back, but it does grow back. It's just hair, and you can pull of anything if you're confident.

Can definitely relate. When you live in the suburbs, it’s really hard to find a barber who can do it your way rather than the way every other schmuck in town does it.

my mom begged me to get a haircut and i denied her every single time and i would cry when she tols me i had to. she tols me that i would only get 1 mm cut off so i no longer thought it was a big deal. but instead, she asked the hair dresser to cut off a few mm instead of 1mm. so the dresser cut it like about 70mm. my mom told me that she would cut 1mm just to convince me to go. That hairdresser deserved to be fired tbh. My hair was so short and ugly and it only messured like 200mm only.

For the summer of going from 7-8th grade I thought it would be a great idea to make a change in my life and cut my hair. (Spoiler: it wasn’t) I found a picture online of a women with hair down to about her collar bone and said that I wanted that hair cut. At the time, my hair was down almost to my BUTT and I hadn’t gotten such a “short” hair cut since I was three and my mom had got me a bowl cut. When we went to the stylist, I asked if I had enough hair to donate, and she told me no. When she took off the initial amount of hair, it was a little longer than what I had wanted. So she washed my hair and told me she was going to make it less blunt looking. I agreed. Bad decision. She lied. She took my hair from collar bone length up to my chin, and u fee cut me so much that more than a year later, the underneath of my hair still isn’t more than an inch long! The worst part is she knew she f-ed up and decided to curl it to try to make it look better, which worked, but unfortunately I didn’t know how to curl my hair and once I slept on it I looked like blonde Dora. I cried for a week, and when 8th grade came, I was so embarrassed that I would hide behind my taller friends and avoid people. Still growing it out, even though the stylist said “it will only take 2 weeks” smh

I went to the barber about 6 months after I shaved my head and asked him to keep most of the length on the top but cut the back and sides to a fade style, which I thought was a very normal request. He kinda laughed at me, like "little lady doesn't know what she wants. I know what she really wants!" and I walked out $40 poorer with nothing cut except for a bald rectangle at the top of my neck. It was a very similar style to my grandma but she wouldn't pay that much. I hated it so much!

One time I tried to cut my own hair (I was like 5) so I took a pair of scissors and just snipped off a patch of hair at the top. I had to wear a headscarf to church for a while hahahaha
My hair horror story: When I was in 2nd grade there was a really bad case of head lice going around my year and I unfortunately caught them so my mum was trying for hours one Saturday to get them out of my hair. Now my hair was really long and I had only ever gotten trims before so my hair was down to my bum. My mum used to work at a hair salon as her Saturday job when she was in college so when she got really frustrated when the head lice wouldn't come out she told me that she used to work in a hairdressers and she would cut my hair. I thought she knew what she was doing but she then proceeded to put my hair into a ponytail and cut my ponytail off. The only problem was was that when the ponytail was cut it was really short (up to my ears) and really uneven so my mum took me to the ONLY hairdresser that was open on a Sunday and told her to fix my hair but the girl at the hairdressers cut all of my hair into a REALLY short pixie. My hair then took 2 years so grow to the same length again and after that I never let my mum touch my hair.
I don't actually have any memories of bad haircuts I've gotten, but my hair is fairly thin and mostly straight. I've only ever gotten my hair cut at places like Great Clips, but they've all been okay. The last time I got it cut, I showed the lady the picture that I thought I wanted, and she made it better than the fuckin picture.
My brother on the other hand.... One time the person cutting his hair cut his ear, and managed to give him something close to a bowl cut. Another time, he didnt want his hair cut, but our parents told him he either needed to take care of it or get it cut. As a joke, I offered to cut it for him. Fast forward 15 minutes of him refusing to sit down or stand still, he walked away with a decent hair cut. The next time he needed a haircut, Mom offered to pay me $5 to do it. Once again, he refused to sit down or stand still, but this time he left before I was done. It hadn't even been 7 minutes. It wasn't horrible, but i was enough to convince him to let my mom shave it to fix it. Apparently, she had expected this outcome, and she was mostly just paying me to do was to make it look bad enough for him to let someone fix it. If I happened to make it decent, then it would just be a win-win.
When I was seven I had bangs and i taught that people who didn’t have bangs just cut theirs off so I went off to my kitchen to go find some scissors (my parents were asleep) but i couldn’t find any so i went into my playroom and found some zig zag scissors in my art drawer. So I went into the bathroom and cut as close to my hairline as possible, then I put the hair that I cut off on top of my blonde barbies head thinking that if my parents couldn’t see the hair they wouldn’t be able to tell that I cut it. So I was just watching some scooby do when my mam walks in and screams “CARA WHY IS THERE HAIR IN THE SINK” to which I respond with “oh the neighbors cat came in and threw up a hair ball!” Then she saw my zig zag bangs and brought me straight to the hairdressers 😂
When I was younger I kind of went to different haircut places each time for a few years, so this one time, I think I was 8, and the lady was asking me lots of questions (a good sign) but I didn’t know what layers and feathering and all this stuff meant, so I would look at my mom because she knew. The lady cutting my hair did not like that I was asking my mom, and I guess she felt like it was stupid that I didn’t know these terms or something like that, so she yelled at me “stop looking at your mom, you should know these answers!” That stressed me out a bit, I hate getting yelled at, so I told her that I didn’t know what she meant. She tried explaining it to me, is still didn’t get it, tried again, no luck. My mom tried, and I got it then. All of this just for me to tell her that I didn’t want layers, because I liked the cut I already had, and that one didn’t have layers.
Two days before prom I went in to get a trim cause I hadn't had my hair cut in a rediculous amount of time and needed it. We go in and I'm talking to the lady who's going to cut my hair and we agree on an inch and keeping the layers, really simple I've gotten it a million times. My hair was to about the bottom of my shoulder blades (this will be important to know in a minute). So I take off my glasses, she spins me around and starts talking about how she's used to cutting curly hair cause her daughters have it so this will be no big deal. I'm sitting there really confident and I close my eyes because what else am I going to do when all there is to look at is a wall. So some time passes and she says she's done, turns me to the mirror and gives me my glasses. The hair around my face was up to my chin. The hair in the back looked like it wasn't touched. So I'm already internally freaking out. So I'm very nice about it and I'm like can we shorten up the back so it's more of a smooth transition. So she starts cutting and then I realize she isn't cutting the back, she's cutting the middle and it's now shorter than the front and back. So I wait for her to say she's done because I'm just freaking out more now. So we get out of there as fast as we can and as we get to the car I start showing how freaked out I am. So my dad and I go get my sister and mom from the book store and I'm crying and my mom and sister keep telling me it's fine it's not that bad and I clearly don't believe them. So my mom has me wash and straighten it to see if that makes it any better, no surprise it's only worse. Next day (day before prom) we call to see who's working that day and it's someone else and the lady who cut my hair and I said hell no we'll go to the other store. We go to the other store, I start crying to the manager cause it's the day before prom and this lady ruined my hair. She takes a bunch of pictures to send in, fixes it for free and gives me a coupon for a free haircut. The original salon is no longer open.

So my mom always like to have my hair short an I don’t I hate it on me. So one year she lets me grow my hair out and it was time for me to get a trim. I go to the salon and I say “hey I’m here to get a trim. Don’t cut more than an inch of.” And the lady goes I got you! So she goes and chopped so much hair off and gave me bangs!! I wasn’t mad abt the bangs cuz they were cut but I had extremely short hair and I cried 😂

Once when I was in fifth grade I wanted a bob. So I went into the salon and someone calls me over to sit in one of the chairs. She washes my hair and start cutting it and everything was going fine. She finished cutting my hair an it looked great but I wasn’t really able to see it in the mirror because she quickly rushed me to where my dad was. He payed and it isn’t until after I get home and I’m really able to look at it that I notice one side of my hair is an inch shorter thank the other side. For some reason I didn’t tell my dad so we never went back in to fix it so I eventually just grew my hair out until it wasn’t noticeable.
I got gum in my hair and I got a haircut. I had a dora the explorer haircut forever! I'm glad that my hair grew now.
I feel like none of their haircuts look *that* bad, but if it's not what you want then it'll always seem worse than it does to other people. So glad I just buzz my hair myself now ✌️

When I was in the 5th grade my stepmother tried a quick way of getting layers on me - you lay down with your head hanging over the edge of a bed or table, put your hair in a loose ponytail, pull the hairtie to the end and then lift the ponytail up - then cut straight across. Well my stepmother didn't do it right and gave me a mullet.
Tl;dr my stepmother gave me a fucking mullet.

I was in kindergarten and I didn't know you had to sit perfectly straight to get an okay hair cut so I moved around a lot and fidgeted around and I ended up with horrible ugly lopsided bangs and a bob. It looked horrible even in my kindergartener mind.😭

I got silly putty stuck in my hair when I was 6 so my mother decided to cut it out. Many tears later I was told I can NEVER EVER have silly putty ever again. Now at 20 years old I still haven’t worked up the courage to buy some.

When I was in elementary, I had a bad case of lice that lasted for about a year. The medication wasn't working (the lice became mutants and literally Chuck Norrised their way through the treatments) so my mom was like, "guess we gotta cut it now." So she and her friend went ham on my hair, I could see them busting out a ruler, measuring the length of my hair, parting it every which way, casting worried glances to each other, snipping ...
The end result left me with something that looked like our cats hacked up. On the bright side, I've had bangs since!
