Beautiful song Rob! Thanks for entertaining us now and 30 years ago! Northern Exposure finally made it on a streaming channel; and I’ve been binge watching it constantly! Wish the reboot would have happened! Is there still a chance?

Great song, Rob. I really enjoyed your song; certainly a side of you I haven't seen before.
I too love playing guitar and singing, though I've yet to be brave enough to post somethng online. I've noticed that often creative people like you have other talents than the those they're most well-known for. The great Tony Bennett with the best voice of his generation and painted, for example.Johnny Carson was the king of late night but also played the drums and ocasionally sang on the Tonight Show,. Jack Lemmon was a great film actor and also a fine pianist. Many others I'm sure.
Thanks so much for your nearly 6 years of great effort at bringing all of Joel Fleischman's many sides and relationships and situations to life on screen along with that wonderful collecion of creators, cast and crew. I remember in the nineties I really identifed with Joel's predicament, a lifelong New Yorker compelled by law and under pretty blatantly false pretenses to be stuck in a small town in Alaska. Not the big city hospital in Anchorage your character naively imagined early on. Joel is truly on of the most memorable and enjoyable characters I'v ever seen. The show truly was cinematic in its use of nature scenes and backdrops and a small town in Alaska as everpresent characters.
Early on in the arc of the series it was the settings, the independent yet dependent and idiosyncratic nature of the show's characters and stories tha grabbed me. Especially how Joel's and Janine's characters played off of each other that drew me in. But I think the so called "secret sauce" of that show that made it memorable and last was the recognizable and relatable humanity, fragility, self delusion and imperfections present in all of the main characters. And all of us.
When I watch reruns now, I'm struck by how many of the main cast seem in real life to be somewhat like their characters in demeanor and character. Except for Maurice they weren't larger-than-life characters like superheros and villains, just everyday Americans and two Canadians stumbling daily through life trying to resolve conflicts while trying to hold onto as much diginity as possible. Often in not-as-yet-seen situations, like flinging a piano or Joel and the Rabbi inside the whale. Fans of the show like me recognized themselves in those characters and interactions and situations. That's what made Northen Exposure charming and so original for me, every Monday at 10:00 PM.
As a Canadian from beautiful BC, I also loved the fact that not only was Joel a fish out of wate, but also naturally a homesick and lovesick fish out of water: held against his will by the State of Alasks and by threats from Barry Corbin's character. Yet whenever Fleischman saw a patient, even Maurice, he subdued his stress and frustration and behaved like a disciplined and empathetic professional who nearly always was successful at providing high quality healthcarefor a town that needed that. And endlessly solved the townfolks' problems, while his own troubles festered above, at or below the surface.
All of that is why people loved the show and still do. And why it continues to find an audience. Northen Exposure was, is and will continue to be a TV masterpiece of the 1990s. One that's still catching eyeballs and ears and hearts in syndication in 2024.

    I wouldn't understand, Sister Row Fleischman.🐻
You play that thing like a row boat up and down where "A River Runs Though It"
Leave the Brooklyn Dodgers' Coneys in the can outside.
