It's actually Fort Cambell, KY, right across the border from Clarksville, TN. The only reason I know that is that my family stayed in the Holiday Inn in Clarksville when visiting my brother in basic training.

I fell in love with Jeff Daniels on The Newsroom. Before that, I had no idea how immensely talented he was, and in my opinion, he's not in enough stuff. This is a wonderful person who just happens to act and make music like the star he is. If he had nothing but The Newsroom, he'd be in my top five all-time favorites ... but he's done so much more. I wish I lived close enough to catch one of his shows, but I do own his CDs and love them.

@@Tanmag11 Absolutely. That's when I started to explore his music and bought his CDs. He lives in Michigan and supports the town theater by performing there. He also played a song in season 2 with John Gallagher and they both killed it. I heard they played guitar on set regularly.

The Beatles had just changed the creative landscape with their "Revolver" album; and in that avalanche of creativity this remarkably touching song was released upon the world. Note the urgency of the lyrics? As the protagonist urges his love to meet him one last time before he leaves for battle in SE Asia.

Nice job Jeff basically said something to effect of - " here is one that you will recognize- eventually" before they started playing the song. Funny thing is depending how old the audience was- if they were younger (at all-lol) they probably did not recognize the song. Me, on the other hand Im an old dude who watched the Monkees show when I was a kid. I also became acquaintances with Louis Shelton, who played the opening guitar riff on the Monkees record. Louis was a guitarist that was also a member of the wrecking crew.

My introduction to Jeff Daniels was a quiet afternoon for which I rented two movies: Dumb and Dumber and Gettysburg. I shut off D&D about a third of the way through, I couldn't take anymore of it. Then I fired p Gettysburg. As the credits rolled at the end I was amazed to see the same man appeared as as star in both Jeff Daniels. I've been a fan ever since. But not a big enough one to finish watching D&D.

You youngsters don't really feel this song as soldiers from my generation felt it. I look on some of the young fellows today and think back when I was 20 and leading 18-19 year old young men into battle. I don't know how well the majority of kids would do today, a lot of then seen like they are still finding their way in life! We knew what awaited us and grew up pretty quickly. At least those of us that went into uniform did. Those who dodged the draft, I don't think ever really grew up. I talked to a guy my age who actually said, " I guess I should have gone to Vietnam back then!". I said ,yea, you should have.

I love Jeff and thought it was cool when he did "Thats how I got to Memphis" on News Room, but let's not kid ourselves. He's an actor. As a guitar player and gigging musician, we let celebs slide. We pretend that Johnny Depp is some super guitar player and Jeff is an outstanding musician because of the acting career. They are average at best.
