@@xavierdtdSaying [Mon Tog] for "Montague". If you yourself are unfamiliar, look up anyone, and I do mean anyone, talking about Romeo and Juliet. P.S. These quirks are why we will forever love Crendor.
Just a heads up for anyone wondering, Montague is pronounced mawn-tay-gyoo. From Romeo and Juliet. Are you a Capulet, or a Montague? (Rival families in the play).
He's pronouncing it the way it's pronounced in the original French. The irony of this discussion, is that the messed up pronunciation is the English one. 🙂
The rule for the "-gue" ending in English, is that it's pronounced as a hard "g". Pronouncing it "mon-tog" is going with the rule and not knowing that "Montague" is one of the exceptions.
Honestly wish they did more stuff like Fitzsimmons. Imagine if you went to some random town, thinking it was a regular old quest hub. You're doing quests, thinking nothing was weird. Maybe at some point, you have to fight off some "rogue Paladins and Priests" that have been attacking the town for some reason. You go in the inn to turn in the last quest (maybe returning something to the cellar that those "rogue" Paladins had stolen), and as soon as you turn it in, the audio goes completely silent. You leave the cellar and the inn is suddenly run down. The town looks like it's been abandoned for years, and there isn't a single person to be found. The music completely cuts out whenever you return to this town. But if you die and run here after finishing the quest, everything looks like it used to, the music and the people are back and act like nothing had changed.
Fitzsimmons is the real one. I like that his quest implies that, as a spirit, he wandered far from where he died to find an adventurer that could finally put his crew to rest. Super cool!
I'd like to add an honourable mention of a ghost whom I knew would not be on your list but is unique to the game. The ghostsaber from Darkshore. I always made a point of taming it for whatever hunter I played, it is the only hunter pet in the game that is a ghost. May not know about it if you haven't played a hunter. Always my favourite pet.
I didnt know about #1 that was so cool! I love that they add quests like that to the game that have amazing stories to them that most of the time i just skip through
The cool part is he wasn't a ghost in Vanilla. The entire questline was normal then. Thus it seems like he died before Cataclysm and his ghost is still giving his quest
I started playing WoW end of Burning Crusade, and I hit 70 while doing the escort quest getting Betsy the ghost cow to safety. Before the leveling experience changed, I used to always make sure I hit level 70 by doing that quest. It was a funky little habit I developed and remain nostalgic about. Love you Betsy!
Missed opportunity to include the infamous invisible ghosts from Duskwood that killed many a players that didn't even saw what were going on back in the day.
I haven’t played wow since the beginning of cata and I came back for the start of classic vanilla, but I still enjoy your top 10. I love when I recognize zones from the first 3 expansions and I’m like “i remember that!”. Keep it up man. This will never get old

I always think of the ghosts outside Scholomance who were servants of the Barov family, killed by the Butcher and used to feed his master, Kirtonos the Herald.
Wow Fitsimmons was awesome to learn about, seeing that story inspires me to read more of the quest dialogue. With how many ghosts there are I’d love to see another one of these
So ghost Azuregos was banging a Spirit Healer in the afterlife, that probably made him the happiest non alive character in the game, until we ruined his gig
The ghost of Blackrock Depth should also be remembered for being the one that completes the Black Key quest that let you skip a vast majority of Blackrock Depths and gave you an easy path to Molten Core.
Crendor, that term is also used in the starting area for the DK. There is a book on a ledge in the floating base, and when you initally look at it, it says that you need more cowbell. As you progress through the zone and gain more xp, the notations change until it basically calls you the most blood thirsty DK there ever was or is.
Another thing I like about the Briny Barnacle is I think it has like it's own music or maybe ambience? It's got it's own vibe to it and probably a lot of ppl don't know about it especially if they didn't play WoD...
I was soo happy to see First Mate Fitzsimmons as your number 1. He's my favorite NPC and every time I play through Menethil, I always feel the need to do Fitzsimmons' questline. Three guesses why and the first two don't count. 😁
Slight correction on the Egan quest. That quest, unfortunately, hasn’t existed on retail since Crapaclysm. I loved doing it when I leveled my priest in TBC (my priest still has the blaster in the bank), and made sure to do it when I leveled on Classic. I had hoped Blizzard would bring it back after Harold Ramis’ death, but to no avail. We did, however, get the Ghostbusters in Return to Karazhan, so there’s that.
The Montagues, Mortimer and Randolph at least, are likely references to the rich characters with those names in 'Trading Places' Ophelia is prolly named after the Jamie Lee Curtis character in that movie, and William would be Eddie Murphy's character 'Billy Valentine.'
5:00 There's actually another explanation for this, and that's that resurrection is actually insanely rare lorewise. Very few characters are capable of actually resurrecting someone, hell, monks' resurrection quite literally implies you're just managing to resuscitate them from near-death. Only a ahdful of lore characters are shown to have the capability of resurrecting people, Inquisitor Whitemane having been one of them. The obvious question remains, "What about spirit healers?" Shadowlands explained their role as being watchers of souls who determine whether or not a person is ready to pass on, but even before this, it was implied their actual role was different than in game. The players' ability to resurrect is mostly a gameplay decision, though there's some hints indicating a bit more lore going on under the surface. The Demon Hunter starting zone, for example, has Illidan express curiosity that the player DH has a demon soul similar to his, allowing them to return from the dead.
Good job Crendor you're really setting the MOOd this fall with another classic video. Reminds me of the top 10 cauldrons that one was my fav. I imagine they have a lot of big soup in those big pots. I wish you many luckydoo's in your future.
The reason why majority of NPC's can't resurrect like the player character is because canonically we didn't actually die to that murloc or standing in the fire, it's just for the game mechanic. However, the lore "reason" given for our characters when we do ACTUALLY die (twice, so far) is we have "immortal souls" as stated by Illidan, who himself has one as well. Most NPC's when they die are immediately taken to the Shadowlands and most ghosts we encounter are actually just imprints of their soul. An exception to this is spirits who die in extremely traumatic ways or just simply refuse to go to the Shadowlands... Somehow. It's kind of messy. There's only been a couple of times an NPC has actually been resurrected; a few being Varian, Sylvanas, Medivh, Kel'Thuzad, Lei Shen and Inquisitor Whitemane (who also has the power to resurrect).
Really liking those lists! But I think you forgot about the ghosts in the UC courtyard that kill unknowing hardcore players that use some form of AoE there. Their reputation in hardcore deserves them a spot on the list. ;-)
So the reason most people who are ghosts don't or can't get resurrected is because you generally need 2 things 1 you need to have very or relatively powerful soul and a powerful either druid, shaman, morally good necromancer, paladin or priest
Yeah, resurrection in the lore is incredibly rare. As a game mechanic it's simple. But lorewise it's very rare and difficult. Anduin is one of a very small number big mortals that has performed a full resurrection. Our characters are able to easily mostly because we have something tethering us to the mortal plane, so it's not our time to move on into the Shadowlands. Even bringing a soul back through Necromancy is quite difficult in the lore.
It isnt pronounced "Mon-tog" for Montague.... It is pronounced "Mon-ta-gyou" as in the "House of Montague, Romeo's family and then Juliet belonged to the Capulet House. Fix this or else you suffer a plague on both your houses....

Not even counting Shadowlands... the entire expansion of the dead... In Shattrath there is a ghost right next to Haris Pilton... I think I spelled that right. Anyway it's a pun celebrity joke thing with those two.
(3:57) In Romeo and Juliet, their families are a part of two group called the Guelphs and the Ghibellines. They were political and religious parties that argued whether, or not the Holy Roman Emperor, or the Pope were in command. $H!t got so bad with them, that fights between them range from public brawls & gang wars to county feuds & full blown wars between kingdoms.

Honorable mention goes to Captain Grayson of the Westfall Lighthouse. And his torch, which blesses all classic roleplayers.
