The Stonetalon Mountains house, and many other seemingly oddly placed features that you normally can't get to in vanilla, is actually some nice scenery that Blizz placed along flightpaths to have something interesting to look at while you're flying over the mountains of Azeroth. Another example is the Dun Morogh airstrip that had alot of work put into it, only meant as a cool thing to look at while you're flying to wetlands or wherever.
I looooove finding random little houses like these in the middle of nowhere. It adds so much to exploration and the world, even if at the end of the day they're meaningless. One of the things that made me fall in love with WoW back in the day was just walking around exploring and finding places like these.

my favorite one is the cottage near stormwind gates, because before flying you had to climb a really steep hill to get there, and in my 5ish years of playing i never met anyone up there, so it really felt like its hidden, i loved to just chill by the river in the mountains
The glowing shard quest is available to Alliance. Didn't most tauren get hunted to extinction by centaurs even before thrall landed on kalimdor? And even more still got wiped out by the centaur when therazane awakened? About the two tauren name Sagewind: Tauren have clans, and tauren bearing the same last name does not necessarily mean they're related. You'll notice that all warrior trainers in Thunder Bluff have the same last name, as do all the hunter trainers, and additionally both of those names can be encountered elsewhere in the world.
Remember Terky the murloc pet? He was found in the middle of nowhere in a hard to find cave in borean thundra. That must have felt very rewarding for whoever found it first, but it was also great to see the community going out to pick it up! I wish Blizzard would put something in some of these middle of nowhere places.. a toy a cosmetic or something.. just to when you stumble upon it randomly feels extra rewarding.
Wow... even though I have been sub'd to Crendor for what now, 10 years or so, I haven't watched any of his content in a very long time, and suddenly this video popped in my recommended and damn, your voice has changed A LOT my dude. I can't tell you how excited and happy I get when I open UA-cam and the first thing in my sub queue is a Crendor Pointless Top Ten. Legitimately one of the happiest, most informative, and nostalgic series on the site. I played from vanilla through Cata, and all these years later, these Top Tens make my day. Thank you Crendor! See ya!
Me and my brother were 12 and 10 years old playing vanilla and whenever we'd find a house in the middle of nowhere we'd get so excited and say it was our house. I wish I got that excited about anything anymore.
I'd love a Pointless Top 10 of caves like this. Small caves that serve little to no purpose, not actual caves, but kinda like "caves in the middle of nowhere", just like with these houses. Like the one just south of Aerie Peak in the Hinterlands. I think there's a rare that spawns in that area but that's about it. It's just... There. And I love it.
Yessss I’m glad the CoT houses made it in. It’s almost like being on one of those theme park rides where you’re on a boat or something and you roll past these intricate lit-up sets in the darkness, and even though you know nothing’s in there, you make up weird stories for them anyway.
No. 10: Yes, it was there already in Vanilla and still is in WoW Classic. When u take a hippogryph from Astranaar to Stonetalon Peak, u go in a long loop out over the ocean and flies back over land into Stonetalon over that plateau with the house. But there was no way to get to it, until flying mounts were allowed in Azeroth. This was really fun for some1 like me, who has played the game, since it was 2 months old. And Ive done endless hours of exploration, tho especially in Vanilla and TBC b4 I started serious raiding. And still u managed to show me something new! I had no idea about the addition of Grimmy, I havent been to that old dwarven farm since long b4 BfA, but now I really have to go back, just to check out Grimmy!
There's also like two tauren huts off the south coast of Ahn'Qiraj (next to the dragon cave that may or may not commemorate a dev's dead kid) that I hope were at least considered for this list. You don't get much more middle of nowhere than the far south of a continent below a raid zone below an empt and unpopular zone.
i remember being like 14 or so in original vanilla and just randomly decided to swim down the entire coast line from feralas, i really did not expect to find anything but that place was incredible
This is such a great video I haven’t seen anything about abandoned houses before on UA-cam please keep up the good content maybe post something about other abandoned or secret places like caves buildings etc.
I'm a little sad that they put Grimmy in the Arathi coastal house. I liked that it was something that only a very small number of explorers would see. I climbed over the mountains from Crossroads to Mulgore and saw some of the houses there as well. Before flight, there were many places in the game that were graphically-undeveloped. They were large flat areas, usually with one repeating texture. It was a treat to be where you weren't meant to be and see what you weren't meant to see.
#5 is actually interesting, because while I barely know anything about the Goblin questing in the revamped Azshara, I remembered the building was useful in Classic WoW. Sure enough, this is how you got the schematic for the Deepdive Helmet from Jubei. That was also Horde and Alliance, so after Cata, the Goblins had you betray them and kill their son for basically no reason.
Was fun before flying mounts, to discover some of these houses that could only be accessed with careful exploitation of the terrain like the landing strip and houses above Ironforge, and others.

@@unclvinny There kinda is. When Legion was current enchanters had to go there to learn more formulae. IIRC it belonged to a vyrul witch who had passed, and you had to click stuff around the house to revive her enchanted objects and draw her spirit back to the house so she could teach you. Pretty sure it was one of maybe two or three very-specific quests involving that house pattern, but it's the one that seemed more noticeable due to enchanters. Of course when BoA came along it all fell by the wayside...
I love lists like this! Bingham Gadgetspring is part of a quest chain. You kill him in The Terrible Tinkers of the Ruined Reaches quest. That pill is required for the quest Azsharite Experiment Number One, where you make a giant have to poo. These are horde quests, btw.
Another cool abandoned place is at the very southern tip of Kalimdor. Not sure if it's in post Cata, but there used to be a small dwelling there with canoes and a cave that I seem to recall had a dragon in it.
Ah man, i always brought people to newman's landing whenever i wanted a place to goof around, since it's not too hard to reach from stormwind. I do also remember that the goblin there would actually sell a few things, and for some reason he had gnome voice lines too
There is the house above Stormwind with the exploding sheep. They added a quest later. And the field above Mulgore with the armed killer gophers and rabbits. They don’t attack you but are in the middle of a critter war. And the fairie circle that puts on a show several times a day. I think it’s in Tirisfal. And I think there is a quest that gives you a companion pet, but it’s been ages since I did it. I used to have a website that highlighted cool stuff I found. Mostly during Mists because it was so beautiful.
I believe Sentinel Hill in Westfall is the default place that Alliance are sent if they are stuck, or the game can't determine where they are. like how it's the Crossroads in the Barrens/Northern Barrens. I remember a common issue in ICC when we were doing progression was on the Gunship encounter if you died by falling off the ship you would sometimes res in the Barrens.
If I remember you take the shard to Fallah she says oh no this is very bad take this to Hammul Runetotem rn and when you take it to him he gives you lore about the Emerald Dream and Emerald Nightmare basically saying this is a huge threat we need to deal with asap but you're gonna need to get stronger first. It was setting up an Emerald Nightmare raid in vanilla that didn't come until Legion.
I was hoping you would mention the hut at the very south of Kalimdor. You either have to depart along Tanaris or Feralas on opposite sides of the continent and go to the southern tip and there was a random Tauren style hut if i recall it correctly.
I don't know if this one exists post-Cata but there was this abandoned house on a tiny island very far off the South Eastern coast of Tanaris. The only way I found it was when I was in the ocean and was just between being underwater and surfacing you can see without the haze that reduces your sight range and I saw this little land mass super far away. I tried to get there before WotLK but there is a LOT of deep sea in the way and the fatigue loss would kill you no matter how fast you could swim. When WotLK came out I created a Death Knight and used whatever that skill was called that let you walk on water by freezing it with every footstep and then used my mount to cross the distance before the fatigue could kill me. And it was just this tiny island with a house and a gnomish or goblin satellite dish and (I think) a few trees with a hammock. I assumed since it was outside of the deep sea areas it was probably just an Easter egg that devs didn't originally think people could get to. Also, on the way there there was a named female Naga named something like "little mermaid."
There's an empty house with a working cook pot in it atop One of the giant rock spiers in the southernmost Pandaria region, had a nice RP dinner with another player in there once, not sure if it's ever used for anything.
It's little stuff like this that makes me miss WoW. Not enough to give Blizzard my money, but just enough to reminisce on flying around Post-Cata Azeroth, looking for stuff like these and the goblin spa on the ridge between Feralas and Silithus.
If I remember right, Falla was both alliance and horde. She should send you to different druids for the next step of the quest, depending on which side you were on.
kind of surprised the random house in the hills in Elwyn Forest didnt get mentioned. It even has a butt ton of sheep just grazing about. oooh, or what about the abandoned house in the far corner of Westfall that used to be a part of the quest to locate Tirion in classic.
I remember finding Newman's Landing in vanilla in the early days right after release On My Level 10 Paladin. I had ask somebody how you got to the night elf starting area because I thought it would be cool to visit and they told me that you had to get to the coast of wetlands to menethil Harbor. I apparently was a creative child because I decided that it might be faster to swim from Westfall up to Menthil harbor, and I was right. But dude Newmans landing scared the crap out of me. Also my guild flipped out because it said I had no location. Good memories.
A note about newman's landing from the perspective of a game developer, as that kind of thing can happen in a lot of different types of games. in a lot of different game engines, when players and objects get REALLY far away from the world's "origin point" (0,0,0 in all coordinates) the engine may have trouble accurately calculating certain things, especially as they relate to position. this tends to cause weird things to happen. minecraft is another good example of this.
when i started playing i think during black temple opening BC, i had a NE druid and really wanted to go to stormwind, back then there was no direct path between darn and sw. instead of doing the sane thing of taking the boat to menethil harbor, walking to IF and taking the tram, i would get off at menethil and walk the around passed newman's landing, for me, that place was the "mid point" of the journey.
Surprised you didn’t mention the abandoned Night Elf tower on the shores north of stratholme in classic. Cant get there any more because of invisible walls and other changes in TBC

I think the stonetalon mtn abandoned hut is simply for scenery along the alliance flightpath. Love this series.
Pretty sure the skelly outside the Tauren hut is a thunder lizard not a kodo
I love your videos :D
Ah man, i always brought people to newman's landing whenever i wanted a place to goof around, since it's not too hard to reach from stormwind. I do also remember that the goblin there would actually sell a few things, and for some reason he had gnome voice lines too
keep them coming! ♥️
The Stonetallon Mountain hut is where I RP my Orc hunter lives. Has a pigfarm and grows grain for beer. Lol
I love pointless WOW videos, sometimes far more interesting than someone who puts an hour in to one video about something we already knew!
This is my favorite one, i hope there will be a part two and not mention the "occupied" house in nagrand outlands.
I love the one with the troll "babysitter", i was looking through comments to find someone who mentions nagrand aha
Found that #3 tauren hut not that long ago, really felt like I've just found a hidden gem.
It was setting up an Emerald Nightmare raid in vanilla that didn't come until Legion.
aka "potential RP spots"
I was hoping you would mention the hut at the very south of Kalimdor. You either have to depart along Tanaris or Feralas on opposite sides of the continent and go to the southern tip and there was a random Tauren style hut if i recall it correctly.
I used to love this Tauren farm on the very southern coast of kalimdor (south of AQ on the water). I wonder if it’s still there?
10/10 Best video to watch while eating breakfast
House #4 has lots of big cobwebs, skeletal piles on the floor "has a very cozy aesthetic to it" 😂😂
There's an empty house with a working cook pot in it atop One of the giant rock spiers in the southernmost Pandaria region, had a nice RP dinner with another player in there once, not sure if it's ever used for anything.
The first one in STM is there for scenery for the Darkshore - Desolace flight path
#5 in 'nilla those two used to sell goods, one was the 'Deep-Dive Helmet', love that thing
Love ya crendor!!
Why do I love watching these? 🤔
"In the mountains" 😆 fond memories lol
I remember flying by the troll hut when taking the FP to Stonetalon from like Darkshore or something
I always appreciated the lonely orphanage in northern Nagrand
Another awesome video! Here are some ideas for "Pointless Top 10" series: Mines, Docks, Ships, Places with relaxing or scary view. 🙂
"And then they added Grimmy!"
*Every RPer cries at that*
I was surprised you missed the orphanage in Nagrand. It's up not far from the Throne Of The Elements.
when i started playing i think during black temple opening BC, i had a NE druid and really wanted to go to stormwind, back then there was no direct path between darn and sw. instead of doing the sane thing of taking the boat to menethil harbor, walking to IF and taking the tram, i would get off at menethil and walk the around passed newman's landing, for me, that place was the "mid point" of the journey.
glad i'm not the only one who has to say it like "in the mountains" -from Mulan
It's implied the Hayward brothers /did/ make it to Stormwind - There's a little gilnean boat underneath where the park was.
There is a Zandalari house on the border to Nazmir's tar pits, and it has a gnome head decorating the wall XD you gotta check this out
Oh mate the Tauren house is iconic if you’ve have ever taken the flight path from Thunder Bluff to Ogrimmar
That extra dramatic "in the mountains", please tell me it was a reference to Thorim
Surprised you didn’t mention the abandoned Night Elf tower on the shores north of stratholme in classic. Cant get there any more because of invisible walls and other changes in TBC
Super laxative was part of an alliance quest line there before making it a horde zone.
During the Reclamation of Gilneas the Haywards return actually. Trent and Tim are dead, but the other three are fine and back in their old home.
