- Hello, everybody. My name is Kayla. I’m not a doctor or medical professional (yet!) but I
am somebody that was once severely affected by debilitating neuromuscular disease and now I am not. This is another chapter in my recovery story.
What is a trigger event? And what triggered me into illness?

I relate so much! My body is a total mess and I’m scared it will never be better… watching your videos has given me some hope ❤
CM1 brain surgery first & revision 2nd, then CM2 3rd brain/spinal surgery, this time to prevent internal decapitation. Removal of parts of A1-2 and muscles/tendons. Subsequent serious syringomyelia. 2 months rehab, in wheelchair, no real walking for 3 years. These issues strongly affect me daily, but docs are ignorant/apathetic to effects. Can't thank you enough for sharing your journey! ❤️🙏💞
Trigger Events:
- Concrete mixer fell on my leg age 6
- Several mobbing events age 13-15
- Several pain problems in neck and shoulders age 10-23
- Break up with girlfriend when I was 23 (straw that broke the camels bag)
After the events I had extrem Derealisation, muscle pain, anxiety, panic attacks and all these stuff coming from trauma in the physical body.
I did Trauma releasing excersizes (TRE) a lot and I got through it completely because it loosens all the tissue in the body…
My trigger event was being thrown from a horse when I was jumping at age 8. From that day on I've had chronic pain. My neck issues I believe began around the time that I started using more screens in high school and when I had a lot more stress mentally because I had two disabled parents. I just started the FNP and am working with a neurodivergent coach to help me manage my care and mental health :)
Wow thank you for this video. ❤️
Love, Love, Love your videos❤️
It feels like my trigger events were heavily related to mold and viruses.
Man do I wish I could just talk to you once! I had a neck manipulation injury a year ago from unlicensed chiropractor and I've been dizzy every since for a whole year! Only doctors have diagnosed me with occipital neuralgia. Can't help me with my constant dizziness rocking on a boat and it is miserable
a swimming injury that resulted in snapping scapula/scapula dysfunction. And on that same day i injured my scapula i caught a really bad cold. after i beat the cold is when the constant tension/pressure headache appeared. that was in 2012 its been ever since
Shoulder dysfunction is so debilitating. I understand your pain ❤️
I think my conception and birth started my whole mess. I haven't been right since birth. I was an unwanted child, abandoned at birth, subsequently adopted by idiots. That's all.
Still can't figure out what my trigger was bit it got really bad on night late 2020 after drinking too many monsters I got dizzy and had bad tachycardia from that point on I was stuck in fight or flight all the time unfortunately eight months later I got a bad whiplash which made it very disabling to where I can't barely walk now
My trigger event is something I'm still trying to figure out because three different things overlapped and coincided. In December of 2019 I drove to New York to pick up a puppy right before Christmas. I felt like my eardrum ruptured on the trip I got this immediate sickness so I returned and went straight to my ear doctor. A few hours literally hours after I came back from my ear doctor I came down with the worst sickness I've ever had. I really think it was covid before covid was even on the radar but I don't know. It was basically like a really bad bronchitis. After that happened I thought I was well 3 weeks later. I went out to buy dog food and fainted in the pet store. It was just this immediate thing. One minute I was looking at dog food the next minute I was laying on the floor. So I got taken to the ER and they said everything was fine. Came home and ended up with increasing fainting spells until March. In March a different ER said I was having an abnormal heart rhythm and took me off of a pill I had been on for 7 years. No one told me the dangers of not tapering off of antidepressants. They made me quit cold turkey. So from there I got thrown into the worse withdrawals. It was the most nightmarish experience I've ever gone through. I could not even stand to have light on in my house for 3 months over the summer I lived in the dark and couldn't even stand sound. I went from 111 lb down to 87 lb. I thought I was going to die. So. There were three things. An illness. A concussion from fainting. And a rapid drug withdrawal from a prescription medication. I have not been right since. I have lost my ability to drive and work. I was working full time outside of the home before this. I have to have all of my groceries and things delivered. I went from riding a bike 12 miles a day to using a wheelchair. I've managed to gain back up to 94 lb and I'm able to walk about 2 to 3,000 steps a day now. I'm getting slightly better in some ways but certain symptoms are relentless and do not go away. Anyway that is my trigger.. and illness and a drug withdrawal. Thank you for these videos.
All of the things you shared seem to be very pertinent triggers to me. I’ve been thinking a lot about the neurological post covid effects that so many people are dealing with. Does covid activate trigger points? I plan on collecting data to determine whether this is a possibility or not. I’d love to utilize your input! I’ve personally connected with several people dealing with these issues post drug withdrawal. Withdrawal is just another form of a shock to the neurological system. That’s definitely trigger material. Thank you for sharing. I believe in your recovery ❤️
@@KaylaDuncanLMT mine came on 10 days after using Zoloft during the pandemic. I've never been on any meds prior to that. 18 months later and still experiencing pain.
I think a lot of times we have it for years and overcompensate, I think mine started with bad head posture and stress like she says, mine got really bad late 2020 and several months prior I had whiplash and covid few weeks apart
I remember getting some serious withdrawals like you describe quitting caffeine
Interesting you mention covid almost every long covid person I've spoke has identical symptoms to cci and head trauma there is indeed a link I feel
