video game projects like this should count as legitimate art restoration, and be respected as much as any traditional art restoration. you can tell how much love and effort was put into this.
U wont believe i took my xbox controller and pc to my school, wasted 3hours installing mario sunshine and mod with texure hd because i have a classmate who loves it, man begged me to bring it to class so i did, man was nostalgic af and crying and hugged me❤ he was so happy and also i was :)
Just imagine how just a few people put that much effort into something like that, not because they get paid for it, but because of the love to the game. That's dedication! Much respect!
I find it interesting that the Beta was 60 fps and more realistic, no cell shading, realistic brick textures. And it had like human looking npcs not just Delphinoans.
This is so cool seeing this beta location in Mario Sunshine being fleshed out to the point of being playable!! If anyone else really likes this sort of content, I would highly recommend the video Pikmin 3 Unearthed, where some people were able to fully recreate an unfinished beta level in that game that was only shown off in the reveal. And, like with Mario Sunshine, the level was completely removed from the game files. Whereas the Sunshine team was able to use the graffiti map to recreate the entire map, the Pikmin team only had the Pikmin carrying routes to make the entire level! It was truly incredible what they were able to do in that video as well.
This is actually so cool. I've always wanted to explore the beta Delfino Plaza. (Isn't it called Dolpic Town in the beta?) This is literally a dream come true!
I always wanted you to do this video idea! The beta elements of super mario sunshine spawn a lot of mysteries just waiting to be solved, so I like that you took a look at them! Keep it up!
YES ! I've always been fascinated by this Beta Delfino Plaza ! Glad to see something very close to the official beta build now ! :D:D:D:D Still a bit of differences there and there, but still amazing work !
The whole thing about adding this lost area to the Super Mario Eclipse mod, and make it into a mission in which you travel in time was freaking awesome and a nice touch! You're indeed traveling through time by playing into this lost area: you're playing an area that was only available in that Spaceworld, 2001 trailer!
Replace all the dolphin imagery with another sea creature and perhaps this could be a plaza for one of the surrounding islands instead. Maybe say the Granchio Archipelago? That's my fan name for the crab islands southwest of Isle Delfino.
unbelievably cool. awesome work to all involved. i love seeing shit like this. betas are such an important part of the history of all of our favorite games. getting a look into the past and seeing how things evolved is fascinating. now, if only there were more actual, original betas available, but, alas, i doubt many of them were preserved in any form, most of the time. finding one is like finding a game's holy grail. and then they have to actually be made available, which collectors generally hate doing, because they perceive it as driving down the value of their collectible. such a dickish way of looking at things.
yeah I’m gonna type a lot, but swankybox was an awesome UA-camr, it’s weird seeing how this much work was put in just to be scrapped. It would have been really different seeing an enemy so large in the main hub. As a person who played Mario 64 before sunshine.
Mario sunshine is the most underrated game ever made it was WAY ahead of its time it’s graphics where incredible game play was super smooth the NPCS where like botw level the mechanics where incredible and it had the best boss fights any Mario game ever had it’s still one of my favorite games ever
Such amazing work! Would've loved to see all of the original dull color schemes to give it more of a thrill-Like I'm truly experiencing a demo that was almost forgotten.
Lol, if only the people working on these games realized back then how massive all this beta / prototype stuff would be to fans. Really makes you wonder if anyone anywhere has any real prototype versions of the game on some old forgotten hard drive in Japan.
This game came out the same year I was born, I spent a huge chunk of my childhood playing this game with one of those "Mini" GameCube controllers. I can't believe its been 20 years.....
I LOVE the idea of playing beta versions of levels, I remember watching footage for Halo 2 and always wanting to play the earth level it showed but never made it into the game. Same with several mario games, including Sunshine, and of course Valve games like HL2 beta maps, I always wanted to find the strider battle and zombie docks.
The defined Plaza of SpaceWorld looks twice as big as the one they recreated, and the little that is seen in SpaceWorld shows that there are even more houses.
Honestly the Beta Map looks way more *alive* and thought out ironically makes the Final Dalfino Plaza’s level design look and feels like a Beta map. I can’t be the only one who thinks like that?
Seriously, Sunshine has the most intriguing beta stuff than any other Mario game. If Iwata didn’t reduce development time for most games on the GameCube, who knows what many games would’ve looked like.
i know it probably never will happen specially now with the hd remake or w/e it was but man it would be breathtaking to see what isle delphino wouldve became as it grew/moved forward in time, or just a modern full on remake of the game (so small things like the heatwaves arent lost just for instance)
I've played Super Mario Eclipse and it's one of the best fan mods I've played. It wasn't easy to get though because it required you to have the "perfect copy of the game." My friend Mako had to help me get it, but when he got it working it was over. I had so much fun playing Eclipse, the custom maps and being able to play as Piantissimo was awesome. I can't wait for the full release. SwankyBox, there's this mod for Melee called Beyond Melee and I think you try it.
How I would love to see the beta version of Sunshine. I love the final game, but I want to know more about Tramplin’ Stu, the Delphino express, Nico and the rest of the human NPCs, cut levels such as Battleship Island and the cut objects.
Wow, I love this passionate work. ❤️ I'm doing a similar thing with Spyro 2 and his prototypes, making a custom version of the second hub world Autumn Plains on a social game called VRChat.
Weirdly enough I had a dream once where I was in a location that looked very similar to this version of the Plaza. Not sure where I knew the location from because I don't think I had seen any of the spaceworld footage before then.
So basicaly the Lost content of spaceworld 2001 was Always been there from the begining but the entire assets where of course deleted not all of them. Just like SfA had e3 build that can be recreated inside in the kioks. I Hope It can be done.
Excuse me but what that's insane. First they find dialogue for the beta girl and now... Would love to play Sunshine before they had to scrap and rush so much.
While finalized Isle Delfino is very likely better gameplay wise than what they had originally planned; I still think prototype Isle Delfino looks visually cooler with both the beta textures and the current textures.
This reminds of a dream I had where I was playing Super Mario Sunshine and I was battling that Mecha Bowser except I wasn't in that roller-coaster or heck even at the park. It was also walking around the area. This lost area was also where the battle took place... Which is weird to me since back then I had no idea about this.
In a future video, do you think you could check out the unreachable water and lava planets in Bowser's Galaxy Reactor in Super Mario Galaxy? One is just a featureless ball of water, and the other is a massive fall of lava with fireballs surrounding it I believe. You can see them easily from the tower in the beginning of the level.
0:07 Half Life 2 and Halo CE and 2 especially for some of us... *Looks at Digsite Alpha and Delta* At least we're getting some stuff... Okay, a lot of stuff.
video game projects like this should count as legitimate art restoration, and be respected as much as any traditional art restoration. you can tell how much love and effort was put into this.
An honor to be a part of this! Thanks for spreading the word about Sunshine modding!
It’s amazing the love this game is getting so many years after its release. Thanks for converting this stuff!

That is dedication right there! I have always wanted to see people try and recreate Sunshine's beta elements.
I'm so happy that mods like this can be made for Sunshine! Forever my favourite Mario game. ❤
I hope people can recreate the textures and npcs
So glad the mario vids are back! There used to be much more mario content on the channel and I miss it.

That's why following a hastily scrawled graffiti map and entering a magical land will always be one of my Pixel Portals.
They really discover and do new and amazing things about past games regularly😌
this probably isn’t the channel for it, but what you said about betas hits me. my favourite memories come from the Elder Scrolls Online stress test.
This is absolutely incredible :D
R.I.P Tramplin' Stu.
Sunshine has always Been the 3D Mario game that not a lot of people remember much of. But that’s not to say it wasn’t a pretty iconic game!
The defined Plaza of SpaceWorld looks twice as big as the one they recreated, and the little that is seen in SpaceWorld shows that there are even more houses.
Awesome vid, what a great project!
just wait until the original prototype gets leaked
What if the prototype gets released and reveals even more difference? 😁
This is fantastic! Now i can see it myself
"Lost content"-type videos are my favorite things from you
This channel is dangerously addictive. My productivity levels dropping.
Now someone needs to bring back the betas for games like Mario Galaxy, Pikmin 3, Mario 3D World, Splatoon, and Mario Odyssey.

I'm so excited for Super Mario Eclipse, I've been tracking its progress for quite a while. Probably my most anticipated game behind Skate 4 and Palia.
Neat video! Thanks for uploading!
I wonder if any of the beta assets are in that big leak that happened a while back?
Sadly there have been no assets found so far. I'm never giving up hope that an early build will be unearthed one day.

its great to see Sunshine modding start to take off, i love SM64 hacks as much as the next guy but Sunshines Levels are so much more lively.
I like (extremely hate) how game devs lie to the public in e3s and release a different game when finished and everyone is fine with it
It’s not a lie. The game just changed during development. There’s nothing shady about it.
