I love Ultimate Spider-Man. It feels classic and interesting whilst being so new and fresh. This Peter had the responsibility of life sorted and figured but was so dissatisfied with his life he never got to have any power to go with it. That’s why I love this new origin for 6160 Peter. It’s so relatable. We’ve had those moments where we needed to “wake up” and take the leap because we think it’s the right thing to do. As for the rest of the series outside of the origin? Delightful. Uncle Ben and JJJ are such a fantastic pare paring and I loved issue 8 so much because we got to see how they are lonely, clearly needing each other but can’t show it to each other. Is it a perfect series? No, I still want more time with Mary Jane and her relationship with Uncle Ben. That’s a paring we NEVER get in comics and they are both equally just as important to Peter. I could see MJ being close to Ben growing up next door as he’s the father figure she always wanted. I think issue 12 with the preview pages seems to be giving us some more MJ and that’s great. I also want to see more of Peter’s relationship with Richard. Peter seems closer to May and k want Hickman to show that story of a parent struggling to connect with their kid, still loving them but not knowing how to show it. AI Venom teases are great but it’s Harry’s teased heel turn that I’m most excited for. Remember he is the one to give the power and responsibility line. How ironic that the person who said that line take it in a dark direction
Yeah I think you really nail the appeal of this Peter's struggle in the first issue. The whole "I should be doing something more" and "Something is wrong here" was a nice way to frame the fact that the Maker prevented Peter from ever becoming Spiderman. Issue 8 was just an all around fantastic issue I agree. I'm also really digging the fact that JJJ is a really likeable character in this series. I agree that MJ and Richard have been on the back burner a bit, but sometimes certain kids connect with certain parents, and that also seemed kind of natural to me. That said, I think the reason I waited this long to make this video is that it just takes time for the story to really expand on things. Ultimate Spiderman does progress slowly, but each issue feels like its just focusing on one major plot point primarily, and that really helps make each issue feel meaningful. Yeah, I like the fact that Venom is now most likely going to be an AI/Tech suit created by Howard Stark AND that its actually a sort of clone version of Peter. I also like, as you said, that the Harry's darkness is being slowly hinted at, and having Norman Osborn as "his" AI, is a great way to have that whole inner goblin voice thing work in this universe. Appreciate the insightful comment here! Thank you!
Spider-Man, for me, is basically my whole childhood. I wanted to be like him as I was growing up. But One More Day and the rest made me feel as if I’m stuck at one point not achieving anything, just repeating. Then Ultimate Spider-Man came, and now I’m actually closer to Peter’s age. He has a family, people he cares about, and people who care about him. As a guy getting ready to get married, these couple of issues made me feel like I’m moving in the right direction. I’m growing, and I should trust my surroundings more. Thanks for the great video, man it really made my day ❤️
First of all, congrats on the taking the plunge and getting ready to get married! Marriage is a huge life changing and impactful part of many people's lives, and its honestly what made One More Day such a gutt punch. I definitely felt the same sense of stasis and of something being horribly wrong when One More Day came out. Looking at the panels or pages even these days, feels rough. I think that's what makes Ultimate Spiderman so powerful, as its making both Spiderman and Peter relatable again, but its also giving a lot of people (including myself) a lot of hope and joy. Finally, Thank you for the nice comment and for watching the video, YOUR comment made my day! :)
Ultimate Spider-Man #1 (2024) back in January made me fall in love with comic books. I had read comics before but this felt different, it felt meaningful.
I totally felt what you felt. I was really kind of moving back to being a casual comic book reader, after years when I used to follow them pretty regularly. While I don't see myself being as intense as a I used to be with comics, I absolutely feel the fervor and excitement for the Ultimate Universe and Ultimate Spider-man in particular!
As a oldtime spider-man reader this is a breath of fresh air and much what I wanted. I do find it slightly frustrating that every character has to be changed. Especially visually. But it’s a great run so far
Ultimate spider man is looking fantastic! Many of the other heroes too. I like the fresh takes, not just for the sake of being different but it seems to be what the fans want. Much of it is what I’ve been wanting. And this is the most exciting part of the new ultimate universe for me, that we can sorta re do some of these characters who have been so poorly treated. Like with the new ultimates Antman, they actually address the way he treats wasp in other versions (however out of character those instances might have been) and he is reassured by cap that he makes his own choices, he can be better. Recently it’s been feeling like you have to make an entirely different head cannon to even be able to enjoy the comics. Especially with repeated character assassinations lol
Yeah I think there's a separate deep dive on the Ultimates comic that's needed, but I agree that there's some really interesting things happening, especially how these heroes know of and compare themselves to the 616 Universe. That said, I do wonder how THIS Peter would react to knowing about his 616 Counterpart. I mean, for all intents and purposes this Ultimate Universe Peter is pretty well off!
I love ultimate Spider-Man 2024 it’s freaking fantastic and seeing Peter Parker and Mary Jane being married and they have there daughter mayday Parker spider girl alive and kicking in the ultimate marvel universe makes me so happy.
1000% agreed. Yeah after SpiderGirl AND Renew Your Vows didn't seem to land with fans, I really am glad the the whole " Married and With Kids" angle for Peter and MJ has been done justice here. It really does bring the joy, as you said!
@ I am one of the few people who actually loved spider girl mayday Parker growing up and her world mc2 was tons of fun and super awesome and amazing in my opinion.
It’s really funny how USM 2024 can have an issue or two where Peter is not shown in the Spider-Man costume or doing anything heroic (ex: Issue 4 and Issue 10) and it’ll be more engaging and better written than the current state of the main Amazing Spider-Man comic.
100% agreed. And I think THAT is one of the reasons why I think Ultimate Spider-man is so good too. It gets that its not just Spider-man, but the man behind the mask AND his supporting cast, that make for a great story. I particularly LOVED issue 10, since it didn't really focus much on Peter at all, yet it TOTALLY changed the status quo in a big way. Curious to see how things change in Issue 11 in a couple of days!
That's how I feel, as of now. I'm hoping this continues, but the first ten issues are definitely great, and its just really really nice to see Spider-Man back in the spotlight, giving fans joy again.
Which Spider-man are you talking about exactly. If its 616 Peter and MJ, then well, I can see people thinking MJ is a baddie, but that's more of a recent thing. She didn't have that personality or those traits before, and was VERY similar to the version we see in this new Ultimate Universe.
@@hardreseto about 616 do you referring to the MCU version, then yes they are Great, the Comic Version is a bit confusing! Amazing from Zeb wells was Disgusting
@@The_FallenKnight Yeah I meant the comic book version when I mention 616. MCU Version I have no issues with! Its the Zeb Wells stuff that really rubs me the wrong way!
616 MJ is best lol. If you gonna say 616 MJ is bad because of Wells, than so is Peter, Ben Reilly and other characters too. Wells and Lowe literally ruined it. Mostly Peter.
Wish Marvel should have made an check up on the writers so that the Comics wouldn’t have fumbled that much in the Past and we would have the quality we got now (with the Ultimate story) a bit earlier!
Ultimate spider-man goes hard! I keep up with asm through reviews😂that's the only way I'll read it cuz I know for damn well that I ain't paying for badly written stories
Yeah, I think Zeb Wells was my breaking point. I've stopped reading ASM actively myself. Will check in via reviews/articles or what not, but Ultimate Spider-man is just the main Spider-man as far as I'm concerned haha :)
What the fundamental point is can 616 Peter be like the new ultimate Peter and can it be done right and in a interesting way 2nd point what about miles let's say in 30 years he gets his zeb wells storyline what do we do for miles in thinking of this long-term these comic book characters are supposed to be timeless they are supposed to be here long after me you die that's the point I'm getting at how daoe this impact long term
I think in order to get good stories, we will have to perhaps let these characters and their stories change and evolve. I think stories can be timeless and outlive us humans, but only the ones that are really good will. Characters like Sherlock Holmes endure to this day, and the stories themselves have long since concluded. I can see a place where Spiderman does wrap up and actually end in one form or another, and then perhaps we get new characters and stories representing the era. To that note, I think 616 Peter CAN grow up, and evolve. In fact, writers keep trying to do it, and then have to "reset" him in order to keep his mainstream appeal. Long term, I think Marvel comics, and the comics industry as a whole, needs to embrace change and try new things. If Ultimate Spider-man AND stuff like Absolute Batman are any indication, that's what a good chunk of fans want too. :)
@hardreseto the way I could solve the problem one have one of his powers to where Peter ages slower so that way he has more time and yet he's still mortal 2 Have him be the spiderman with the family and let miles be the young Spider-Man there are so many spider people with story's that haven't been told
@@starsgamer500 That's actually a really solid idea, and one that I think would DEFINITELY make for an interesting story. Seeing a Peter who ages slower than his loved ones, and yet has the wisdom of age, would make for a really nice contrast to Miles. I'm kinda surprised I never thought of it before, but hopefully some comic book writer takes that idea and does a really solid Spider-Man story with that!
Sorry but Peter’s struggle is what makes him one of the greatest super hero. If Peter is happy and successful that would not relate to lots of young crowd and normal struggling working class. Even his struggle to lash out after bonding with symbiote also relates to good person with dark thoughts. Seeing him successful and a parent is kinda gets boring easily and being involved with too many loved ones also. I stopped reading comics after 90s clone saga btw
I think we actually kinda agree in spirit, even if we don't see eye to eye on the details. See, for me, It is ALSO all about Peter's struggles, but the problem is that Spider-man and Peter have been struggling with the same few issues, for YEARS at this point. Being Single, getting a job, being able to make rent e.t.c. And those are problems that I feel like people need to solve eventually, or things go in a bad or dark place (Maybe not all three, but at least one of those). I always think Peter will struggle, and the great thing about Ultimate Spider-man is that it gives Peter new struggles. He's older and trying to become a super hero, he has to balance his family AND this new direction in life, He's gotta work and be a hero e.t.c. And he's not SUPER rich (I never liked the whole Peter is the new Tony Stark angle that Dan Slott took in his run). So, I'd say, definitely give Ultimate Spider-Man a shot, it might just get you interested in Spider-Man Comics again, especially since you dropped off at what I'd term a "weird" time in Spider-Man comics.
@@hardresetoyea why not, I guess from your point of view, I will give this comic series a shot since it’s awkwardly very different and I do like the whole new adult look Peter 👍
