    I'm currently playing Lies of P and it's becoming my favorite game. I've seen a lot of opinions on this game and I completely agree with you on everything, especially on the parry thing. Most critics of the parry system are basically saying "the parry is not the same as Sekiro therefore is bad". I'm not a parry god and can't parry absolutely everything but I've been getting better and better at the parry system of the game, it's not inconsistent like many say at all. When you learn how to parry a certain attack or combo you can see pretty well that you can do that pretty consistently again and again. Anyway, it also took me forever to beat the King of Puppets (3 or 4 hours) and now I'm stuck on the Green Swamp Monster for a few hours (my save has 31 hours and it feels like I'm still in the half of the game so I'll probably take as much time to beat as you did) and despite not being easy, I'm really having tons of fun. I'm not even a big fan of super hard games but Lies of P difficulty seems pretty fair to me and it always feel rewarding when I put effort enough to learn what the game is asking me for, the euphoria I felt after defeating the King of Puppets was unmatched, no FromSoftware game ever gave me that same level of dopamine. Anyway, this game is just amazing and I hope more people learn how to appreciate it over time.

    Still working my way through the game, but I'm absolutely having a blast with it. Story is ok, but the gameplay is so fun that it makes up where the story lacks. Each boss is something new to figure out.

    Typically, whenever I beat a game, I don't care to replay it right away. Stellar Blade is the opposite for me. I went right back into it after beating it. The story may not be very appealing to people on the surface but to me, it's still a masterpiece in a way. Sometimes, a complex story can take away from a game

    Besides Chronos before the Ashes this was my first melee souls-like. And besides the Walker of Illusions I did get the majority of bosses with a single digits amount of tries and even first tried the king of puppets and second try beat the nameless puppet without a lot of perfect parries needed. I never really got good at the whole perfect block/parry mechanic to begin with.

    Korea plainly looks like as if they're the new place for good games. West is too bothered by its agendas in detriment to the games they're making. Japan is too stuck in the old way of doing things. They're still doing them well but sometimes they're too afraid to mix up the formulas. Stellar Blade clearly shows that Korea is willing to learn from others and mix it up enough to make it their own. Like it was stated previously, this game is not Nier, not Soulsborne, not DMC, it's all of them and in summing them up it becomes its own thing - it's Stellar Blade.

    It would be very interesting analysis if the game itself wasnt actually a "pretty version" of cheaper games you have on steam that did not succeeded because they did not had the "backing" of Sony or the Marketing budget to "succeed". Today, that is all that matters. BG3 for example: A game that has objective problems and shortcomings. A poorly coded and written game. Its success is pure marketing investment. Bought prizes, bought media acclaim, and insane analysis that anyone with any skill in game development can see through. Alas, the prizes money can buy become "proof" it is good. Today, video games are like many other things in the Western World: If you dont succeed, you need to put more money in marketing.

    • @hardreseto
      @hardreseto Місяць тому

      I think the marketing fact has been true since the days of old. Some of my favorite games of the PS2 era were commercial flops, because well... marketing dollars weren't spent. As someone who plays a lot of niche games, I also remember things like Trails not actually succeeding in the west until Falcom switched over from XSEED to NISA for their localization efforts. That said, I think there's more to Stellar blade than it being a prettier version. For one thing, the competition in the console space is a lot higher and I think things like production value, graphics, design, sound, music, these things do matter. If two games are both fun to play, then the prettier looking game is probably going to win out. That said, I don't disagree with your point, Marketing matters, a lot.

As for SB, I had (still having) a great time with it. I stopped playing Rebirth multiple times just to mess around in Boss Rush and to finish the plat. I didn't even mind the story as I never played Nier. I also appreciated that half my playthrough wasn't cutscenes or dialogue.

I feel like nowadays some ppl get offended by these characters and say their to unrealistic but fail to understand that they’re playing a game someone’s art, imagination so boring when a person wants everything to be realistic unattractive. As much as I appreciate Eve as a counterpoint to modern character design, I still think it's a bit too much. She's clearly made to be an over the top pin up / dress up girl for guys, and I think she overplays the lost / vulnerable angle in order to appeal to guy's innate instinct to protect. Taki (or what her name was, the one in the beginning that gets killed) is a much more appealing character to me. She's still very beautiful and sexy, but has her shit together and knows how to deal with the challenges ahead. I also like her outfit much more; it's tight and accentuating, but not whatever some of the outfits Eve gets are. But hey, to each their own, and the game is important as a counterpoint no matter what. That being said I didn't play the game so I may be wrong in some way.

    • @hardreseto
      @hardreseto Місяць тому

      I think one of the flaws of Eve as a character is that her personality is a bit all over the place. She's very nice at times, and does give off that "lost/vunerable" angle that you mention, and then at other times, she's doing crazy aggressive stuff and being very badass. I think Taki is a much better defined character, strangely enough. As for the attractive angle, I think people's attractiveness is beyond just looks and costumes. The vibe, the feel of a character is I think equally important. That said, give the game a shot if you like action games, its quite good I think

    It's funny, I thought of the similarities of Batman and Spider-Man a long time ago, and how they represent not just different places on the spectrum of humanity, but the philosophy of each comic giant. Batman is an idealistic human being, nearly impossible to achieve, and therefore is larger than life. The challenge is maintaining that idealistic philosophy and values. For Spider-Man, it's not just in being an ordinary human in their day-to-day life, it's the interference of being a super hero that makes that day-to-day life all the more difficult to maintain. It's interesting to compare and contrast them more than any other super hero pairing, I think, and probably one of the reasons why DC's villains, as challengers to the idealization that their heroes represent, are often more memorable than the villains of Marvel, who are a different sort of challenge and threat to day-to-day life and more mundane problems. Though of all Marvel heroes, Spider-Man perhaps has the only rogues gallery that can rival Batman's. In regards to your topic, I don't necessarily disagree, but I think the real problem is the continuous soap opera nature of not just comic books, but most American entertainment. I've been watching wrestling the past year and a half, and one thing I noticed is that a lot of story tropes will be repeated, characters will completely undo their "arc" or "development" from the prior year, and if you struggle to get invested in the story, the matches just blur together and even good performances get forgotten. I think one of the reasons the movies work so well is because they can not only be stand-alone, but they can conclude. Batman and Spider-Man have established their own "mythos", and that can be used to tell individual Batman stories with a beginning, middle, and end. The Arkham games can be Batman, the Nolan films can be Batman, The Long Halloween can be Batman, and none of them have to be the exact same tale or approaching the character from the same direction. Most importantly, aside from key elements (Batman is Bruce Wayne, his parents were murdered in front of his eyes when he was a child, so on and so forth), continuity does not need to be maintained. The thing is, you need to let time pass between each story before you tell the next (at least, within that medium). Unfortunately, both corporations AND fans struggle with letting something go for a while and experimenting with something new. Companies want to rely on recognizable IP, but they wouldn't be doing so if the fans weren't consistently gobbling it all up instead of trying the new IP. So, for my part, I look forward to the next good iteration of Batman, even if it's not for another ten years or so.

    • @hardreseto
      @hardreseto Місяць тому

      I think the issue being larger with American Writing and entertainment is probably true. Looking at things more broadly might be something I do in the future, but I personally am more engaged in and interested in these two characters, a lot of it because the similarities and almost mirror like quality between them that you mentioned.

    Here's the thing In Japanese comics each character is part of a larger continuous story and often act as a piece in the Puzzle. That offers a lot more time and a necessity to give these characters more depth explore them a bit deeper and delve into their motives or actions Spiderman and Batman or more or less diffrent iterations of the same character and the same group of Villains Not saying its wrong in any way But there are many different versions of Spider-Man encountering the green Goblin or Batman facing the joker but the story and the character's stay largely the same I think its time to give new intresting villains side characters find unique ways to push these heroes to their limits Long story short there are many versions of Bruce Wayne and Peter Parker but in most cases There's only one Goku only one Naruto who has their own self contained continuous story

    This game came out of nowhere for me, then I heard all about was Eve and her outfits. I have played it several times and I think it's fantastic. This is gaming to me: an interesting attractive character, a variety of nice skins, and a strong story that works; and of course solid combat and cool and challenging boss fights. This is a role model for gaming today and the game that saved 2024 from the rut it's in. Pretty solid analysis. I also appreciate that despite Eve's "controversial" outfits and appearance, that it's not a sexualized game and there are no forced relationship quests. Maybe someday though we will discover the true answer how to open that door on Matrix 11 and unlock that device given to you on Xion. The plot twist that the characters actually think they're human and how they discover otherwise is intriguing. The true ending leaves a wide open possibility of SB's future, as well as further exploration into what is Mother Sphere and what needs to happen next.
