    This is a great video, my old Focus 2.0 Zetec is not an ST170 and for some reason has a fuel feed line and a return line too. They are bastards to disconnect with the 3 prongs until I worked out you can use a 12/13mm open ended spanner to squeeze the side tabs and the fuel pipes will slip out nicely maybe even without a screwdriver to press the top tab. Don't lose the O-rings that will come out too.
    I had to go into the tank from under the back seat by cutting an access panel, because my car is on a main road and there is no way I can work underneath it there.
    Every single car my family has ever owned had access to the fuel pump from under the back seats. WTF reason did Ford come up with this dropping the tank stuff instead?

      Your fuel floater (or sensor) may be bad. That was that arm thing with the plastic floater on the end and the green wires.

    Hi Spark Plug Steve, showing the ‘Ignition On / Pump Prime’ section of this video. I’m assuming that a fuel pump priming has nothing to do with it actually work in full operation i.e. the priming sounds no indication of an effective pump and thus still needs a new one fitted.

    • @Sparkplugsteve
      @Sparkplugsteve  5 років тому

      It could still prime and run but be at low pressure.

      Thanks Steve for the reply. I have message you through Instagram too. It’s just that my car is cranking but not starting. I supposed it was the fuel pump after no fault in the sparking or fuel fuse. It’s just that the fuel pump is priming after following your video dismantle. But I wonder if it’s working beyond priming and thus needs replacement? Or is it a case that if it primes it actually works even if it was to be at a low percent % and my hunt for the fault goes on?

    I dont know if this is a really old video but I've got problems with the fuel pump system on mine.
    The cars running fine.
    But some one has at some point change the pump and just cut an abortion hole under the seat.
    I thought there was a terrible fuel smell in the car.
    On looking at it the previous owner has forced the fuel quick connect pipe in without lubrication and the orings are fucked..
    I noticed your video you said stay away from removing this fuel pipe because the orings are a bitch.
    I cant find the orings for love nor money.
    I have even asked a ford mechanic but they gave me a OEM parts number for there 90 quid pipe cos they dont sell just the rings. but its wrong pipe they have told me to get.
    I hear you say there a night mate to replace?
    There even harder if I cant get them..😢😢
    Help pls

    Awesome video. Where is the fuse for the fuel pump on your car? It says location 12 in the auxiliary fuse box for the Focus in general, but that location is empty on my ST170. :/

    Alright butt, I've just watched another epic tutorial of yours on the fuel pump change, I'm liking the idea of the washers on the seals, I've got to change mine soon, do you know what size washers you used for it please steve, :)

    i did this, and the pump works and pumps outside of the tank, but once inside, its switches on, but doens pump ? no fuel coming out , any advice?

    • @Sparkplugsteve
      @Sparkplugsteve  5 років тому +1

      When it's outside of the tank are you using the standard wiring or hot wiring off 12v?

    I dont suppose you can remember what sized washers you used? ive done the pump in mine (before seeing this vid) and its still searching for fuel (after chasing problems that didnt seem to exist elsewhere as you found) so going to try the little washer trick youve done but need to get some first.....

    Hi Steve, thanks for this video, it really help me not make a big deal of the job. I followed your instructions step by step last night. You gave me the confidence to try and it was a success. Could you answer this question. - how the hell do you disconnect the fuel supply hose from the pump housing?
    I have read the Haynes book. Not very good and the illustration, pointless. I have looked on UA-cam and I still have found a video doing it. You said it’s a pig to do, so could you explain? Better yet, do a video?
    Top channel thanks.

      With the plastic fuel clip, you just pinch the ends with one hand, and with the other hand take a mini screwdriver and slowly work it out.

    • @Drew-Dastardly
      @Drew-Dastardly Рік тому

      For the benefit of others attempting this it is a pig of a job on your own as your need 3 hands in a tight space, however it's easy using a small open ended spanner to squeeze the side tabs in, leave it there and then you can use a screwdriver on the top tab while pulling the fuel pipe with your other hand. Slips out dead easy.
      It's a while since I did it but the spanner is something like 6-8mm IIRC.

    Hello Steve, my ST170 started stuttering and sputtering and had a massive headache, on live data the FPR sensor was showing around 80-90kPa. I replaced it with 2nd hand to test it's not from it as it was easier job, still showed the same and then was sure it was something with the fuel pump. I found replacement but when we got it out we found out one of the two rubber orange seals was almost snapped. We replaced it and also did the mod with the washers as you showed. Fitted everything back and now the car is running as before. The FPR sensor is returning around 270kPa which is ~2.7bar. If i rev the car still is around that. So the question shouldn't it be more actually, at least 3bar? In the video you mention the pump running 60psi which is ~4bar so i'm a bit concerned what must be the correct value both at idle and when revving it.

    • @Sparkplugsteve
      @Sparkplugsteve  4 роки тому

      They run upto 60 psi flat out under load not free revving.

    • @opexo
      @opexo 4 роки тому

      @@Sparkplugsteve so 2.7bar is ok while idling and must test at 0-140 flat out with logging live data if it will hit around 4bar /60psi/ ?

    Just unplug you mass air flow and it'll run fine till you can replace it you can kiss your fuel economy goodbye though Im only able to go 160 miles on a tank rn
