I am an experienced Mavic user, but I opted to buy Mini 2 mainly because it is so easy to carry around and, more importantly, it is quiet. So Mini series is not only for beginners but because of its lightweight design, it is useful for quick setup and fly.
I am about to buy one as a first time user of drones. I love good qualities but hate complicated set up, which one do you think would be user friendly?
Mini 3 produes less noise as compared with Mini 2. Also, Mini 3 can stay longer in the air. No wonder, why I think Mini 3 is superior to Mini 3 PRO and even Mini 4.
Good to see this comparison at last Darren. As you know, I’ve got the Mini2 and am dead happy with it. Learned to fly and manage shots/ photo/film on it. Got a bit green eyed with the mini3 pro tbh. But realistically- Mini 2 for me for now. I’ll save my money until next year I guess. But still - love your videos…
I have the mini 2 and i learned a lot flying that drone for the last 1,5 years. I can see myself upgrading in the future to the mini 3 pro, it’s very usable because of it’s weight and the fact there a little restrictions when you fly that drone. Besides that the pro has features i wished i would have on the mini 2. For now i have my focus on getting the most out of my air 2s that i bought 2 weeks ago. So much fun to fly and it was a huge upgrade for me coming from the mini 2 in terms of picture quality, and all the features it has. My mini 2 is now my back up drone that i will use for places were i can’t fly the air 2s. Good video, i did not know that the mini 3 has less features the the pro version. In my opinion these extra features and hardware make the price difference acceptable, the mini pro 3 is good value for your money i think 🤔😉.
This is extremely helpful in my search for the right first drone for me. Your explanations are perfect. Thank you for taking the time to put this together.
There are a lot of features that the mini 3 could have by future firmware upgrades as the the models are basically the same apart from the obstacle sensors. The camera could be easily upgraded to the 10 bit dlog at no extra cost. Not sure if they will do this.
Mini 3 good but spend a few more pounds and get the mini 3 pro that little drone is a beast and worth every penny but definitely agree with Darren do not buy any of the cheap drones of the Internet claiming they got all the stuff that dji have they just don't work as my colleague at work found out lol plus I will give dji credit they are second to none with there dji care refresh used mine a few times and worth every penny you won't get that service with any other drone manufacturers. Great video as usual Darren and great advice 😁👌👍 🇬🇧
I had nothing better to do lol but honestly the mini 3 is great but there is an alternative the autel nano plus 600 for the combo plus no geo lock and great camera. See something else for you to read 📚 😉 🤣
I upgraded from the 2 to the 3 with RC. Saved a few hundred bucks getting the fly more combo as compared to the pro model. With all the benefits of the 3 and the RC i am happy with my choice :)
And guess what... The battery of the mini 3 last 4 minutes longer than the mini 3 pro because of the extra sensors on the pro. So, if you bought a fly more combo pack, you can fly 12 minutes longer. The mini 3 is less noisier than the mini 2 and much cheaper than the pro. If you fly an orbit arround yourself and you start walking during the orbit, it's like active tracking as the drone tries to come in front of you. So, the mini 3 has a kind of semi active tracking
I don't really see a motive for buying RC version since I can get the same with a smartphone, which has in addition all the features of a common smartphone.
I think that Mini 3 looks like a new entry drone, but I don't think there is a reason to upgrade from Mini 2 to Mini 3, just the Pro version. Really nice video btw
My two pennies worth, the mini 2, fantastic little drone for starters, steady as a rock, automatically stores your pictures and videos straight on your phone, what’s not to like?
Been watching your reviews a bit and am now a subscriber. I've flown RC helicopters and quads for years and am buying my first "legit" aerial camera to take on vacations as well as a combined video platform with my OSMO Action cam. After this fantastic review, It's the M3P for me. The added features over the Mini 3 is what makes the difference. However, each drone you reviewed is an excellent choice! Great job, sir!
Thank you for that fine video! I have a mini 3 arriving tomorrow. Total beginner here. Very excited about getting into drones...and the photo possibilities.
This was immensely helpful. I'm genuinely grateful for the breakdown comparison of the 3 drones. You have helped me make up my mind and now I'm off to purchase a Mini 3 Pro. I intend it for work so obstacle avoidance is crucial. I had been saving up for the Avata but I can see now that the 3 pro will get me out there working and earning money for the Avata and one day, Matrice 350RTK. Thank you
Sure wish I had watched this instead of listening to a friend that said the Mini 2 was compatible with the RC controller. I was looking forward to a light fast combo of the Mini 2 and RC controller and bought a Mini 2 to go with my Air2S and RC controller. Found out the truth and sold my Mini 2 and got a Mini 3 as my backup and light carrying drone. Flew it today and you are right, it is much quieter and has longer battery life. Also, a great camera. I like my Air2s for the ActivTrack and those associated programs, but dang the Mini 3 is even close in some of those.
Wonderfully in depth video, mate. Thanks! I tossed around the idea of the Mini 3/Mini 3 Pro, but as my first drone, I ended up purchasing the Mini 2 Fly More on sale. I think it will be a great choice for a complete novice!
I'm in the same boat right now. I think I'm just going to save the $350 for the Mini 2 Fly More over the Mini 3 Fly More and then get the inevitable Mini 4 when it's out and on sale lol
Good choice! If you want some added features (ie tracking or pre programmed flights) consider getting the litchi app. Obvoisly keep in mind it does not have obstacle avoidance.
The Mini 3 Pro has the newest radio. The Mini 2 and Mini 3 have the same radio, the only difference is the camera and the lipo battery in the Mini 3. The Mini 3 Pro also has a timelapse feature which is cool if you are filming a storm.
Well can I say I love your videos so clearly explained thank you my friend ,I am a 71 year older Drone pilot and have the mini2and mini3 pro love everyone of your videos son thanks.Colin from Lancashire uk.
Good evening from Greece, does dgi have a cheap price? the mini 3 389 euros with the N1 is worth getting second I'm flying the air 2s thank you keep up the good work
It's quite a different if you upgrade or buying your first drone. I bought the mini 3 because of the price (against the pro) and because of the picture quality, battery life and noise (against the mini 2)
You mention in the video that the DJI RC is not going to support the DJI Mini 2, not even in the future? Has this been said by DJI officially? From what I can see in firmware release notes and tech spec, the DJI Mini 3 and Mini 2 both use the same transmission protocol - O2. This makes me believe that we could actually get the DJI RC to have support for the Mini 2 with a future firmware update.
I remember my first DJI drone, the DJI Spark with Track mode, i was so amazed that the drone followed me, it was not very good, but it did follow me doing my solo shots much better
Thanks for this. Presumably, if we turn off obstacle avoidance on the Pro, it would increase battery life close to the new mini 3 or not if you’ve tested it?
Really nice video again. I'm a happy owner of the Mini 3 pro since Juli. And absolutely love it. I really could use some advice on editing programs though. I am leaning towards Adobe Creative cloud, but the financial part is holding me back. Do you already have a video about that? What do you use? And is it hard to learn for somebody that just got into video editing? Thank you for the ton of useful video's. Keep it up!
Also remember the M3 doesn't have D-cine for post colour grading and the M3P does. However the quickshots feature don't have D-cine at all which is unfortunate. Maybe they'll release an update where its an option.
My 2c recommendation; is to buy Mini 1 or 2 and first learn to fly it. All mini drones take great family photos and do the basic great. After a year and if you will like it, buy the more advanced drone. The essential drone controller is great as it is connected to modern phones, which most have excellent screen resolution.
Bro. Amazing video. Thanks for speaking clearly and being so informative. I had other videos saved to watch after yours about this topic. But now I don't have a need, saving me time. Great job.
Wow, these are brilliant tutorials Darren. Everyone I know who talks about getting a drone I always say look at your videos and subscribe as you show everything in such detail. It also helps me a great deal as I forget some of the things my drone can do. I just go back to your video and see what I have missed. Thank you again Darren ❤
Excellent review as always, I have decided to up grade mini 3 pro next spring thanks to as your advice. I also just recently got the Air 2s would then like to take them both to Mallorca and Greece, what do I need in the way of licences etc. Once again great review keep up the good work
It was very well explained to clear all the confusion that was in my mind. I had bought both Mini 3 Pro and Mini 2 from Costco and was not sure which one should I keep and which one should I return and did not want to open both. Thank you for such a wonderful comparison. 🙏
Great comp video thank you. Was thinking I want the Mini 3 Pro now I know that's the one for me. If anyone's considering the choice between the Mini 3 and the Mini 3 Pro the price difference is £31 (THIRTY ONE) why wouldn't you just buy the pro?
Great work .Just to add they gave the mini 3 a firmware update a couple of months ago which unlocked it's ability to shoot 48 mp raw files .This was a game changer and made me decide to buy one for only £349 new [drone only ]and will make a good upgrade from my faithful mini2 se with the ability to shoot portrait for instagram
From a videographers point of view, the 10 bit video available in 4k 50p in D-Cinelike is a game-changer for video grading. Didn't see 10bit mentioned in your video.
The new Mini 3 looks good, but you can get used/second hand Mini 2 combos for cheaper price now if you are on a low budget, I got my Mini 2 with 3 batteries and 11 months care re fresh remaining, all for £300 and the drone had only done 7 hours of flight 👍👍
Good comparison Darren, all three are good Mini drones, but clearly the Mini Pro is the Best Buy for the money. You get some many more features for not that much of a price increase. Thanks for sharing.
What I still prefer about the 'standard' controller is the ability to use it with an iPad Mini rather than the phone - the larger & brighter screen, that works better with gloves on (winter climate here!) is a deal-maker for me!
I think that the mini 3 is not a great addition to the lineup. The mini 2 is great for beginners and the mini 3 pro is great for people who want the features without the weight. I feel like if you are buying the mini 3 you should just buy the mini 2 and save a bit of money
I've just lost my Mini 2 and as its now discontinued looking at the Mini 3 or Mini 3 Pro.I have a load of batteries and props etc. Will these work with both or are they version specific?
One thing you failed to mention. You can only share your videos on Tik Tok, UA-cam, or FB if you are a licensed drone pilot. FAA considers public postings on Tik Tok, You Tube, and FB as potential revenue generators which requires a Part 107 license. You can however share your videos and pictures on FB if you keep them restricted to only your friend's list.
I’m new to drones but watched a ton of videos before taking the plunge. I have a small vanlife UA-cam channel so wanted to be able to take footage to insert into my videos. With this in mind & the fact that I’m new to flying, I opted for the mini 3 pro. I went for this for 1) the obstacle avoidance. And 2) the features like active track. I also opted for the RC with the screen as I use my phone for recording the videos on my channel so didn’t want to put additional drain on the phone battery. The whole lot + the flymore kit cost me £1018! Hopefully the footage I get will be worth it though 🤞
@@DMProductions thank you. And thank you for making videos like this one that helped me make the choice & also helping me to get the most out of my purchase. Have a great day 😀
I’m confused, let’s say you do decided to get the bigger battery 🔋 if you were asked about the weight of your drone of course by someone official I’m only going to claim the smaller one and pop it in unless you have to register you extra battery or remote ID that also
Don't understand why you compared the fly more package on the 2 model to the basic package on the 3 models when comparing price. Very deceptive as I picked up the basic 2 model a year ago for around $400 which is a significant savings. You can probably get it for a lot less now.
The Mini 3 Pro does have Internal Memory, about 1.2 Gig, as stated in the User Manual under Storing Photos and Videos. If you connect your Mini 3 Pro to your PC you will see the 1.2 Gig drive along with whatever size SD card you have installed in the Mini.
Really weird mine has none. Maybe as I have a pre production unit but 1.2g is maybe enough for a couple of 4k clips… don’t forget the sd cards ! Mavics have 8gb and that get chewed up really fast
Hey, great video! Could you please test if the dji mini 3 really descends slower than dji mini 3 pro? On DJI site it is stated that dji mini 3 has 3.5 m/s desend speed, and mini 3 pro has 5 m/s, all the other speeds are the same! Would be greatly appreciated🙂
Wonderful comparison. So clear and simply put for a newbie like me. Really helps me cut through the noise and get the drone for my needs rather than paying for features I won't use
You're missing a crucial problem - DJI mini 3 doesn't have its API exposed, which means no 3rd party software can drive your drone. If you want to do any advanced stuff you're out of luck with the Mini 3 and mini 3 pro.
I almost lost my mini2 in the side of a cliff in South Korea before noticing what was close by 🤣🤣 It did also crash into a waterfall in Taiwan, but I was able to jump in after it and get it back, which it still works perfectly fine
@@DefineAdam As a person in South Korea, have you ever considered flying your drone into North Korea? You could get some very interesting videos and photos from North Korea daily life, but you might also get in trouble for that if the government up there ever caughts your drone.
@@User-jr7vf No, because I’m not an idiot to want to throw away that much money by losing a drone, and risking more. 😝 I only fly in places where I’ve gained a licence to, or know that it’s allowed.
I haven't seen anyone mention the how the prop speed of the mini 2 makes it a much snappier drone to fly. I just bought the mini 3 and it's sluggish in its corners and starts and stops.
I believe potato jet said that you cant turn off the hdr on mini 3 pro when shooting video in 24p, can you confirm this? I guess he was seeing some anamolies in the video with hdr on. His fix was to shoot in 48fps but I rather shoot in real time 24fps. I'm not into the slow motion stuff
Get a used mini 2 with fly more combo. You will be happy af for the money you payed (which is half the price of the mini 3) this all is assuming you have good used market like we have here in germany
I have taken the plunge and bought the Mini 3 Pro, upgrading from the DJI Phantom 3 advanced which has served me well for many years . I can't believe how technology has come in since the Phantom days. I'd be really interested to see some tutorial videos on all the cool stuff you can do with the Pro in the future.. I'd like to know what packages you used to slow down movies and your thoughts on best software for producing content ? Thanks.
Thank you for this detailed comparison. Mini 3 PRO for more advanced features, Mini 3 for beginners or for enthusiasts with high end models and would like a portable drone.
Hi Darren, great videos on the smaller drones. I'm looking to get the Mini 3 Pro in early January and would like to know which Freewell filter kit you recommend and which single filter do you use the most in general (ie ND8 or 16 etc). I'm hoping to get a few accessories for Christmas before I buy the drone itself. Many thanks. Andy
Has the mini 3 the same sensor as the mini 3 pro? Do you know if it has a crop factor as you change mode from photo to video? Thank you for the review!
Just a correction, built-in HDR affects video only, not photos, so that doesn't make Mini 3 photos better than Mini 2. HDR photos are created by photo merging in post processing. Glad I didn't upgrade from my Mini 2 fly more combo as I'm mostly interested in aerial photography, mostly daylight conditions. Also, Mini 3 still has a native 12 mp camera. For first time drone byers though, Mini 3 pro with new rc controller is the best choice 😀
Is 3 pro better for mountains videos and videos near to the water than normal 3 ? Im begginer, but i live in Norway now, so i want to shoot mountains and fjords mostly

Mini 3 Pro.

I think that the mini 3 is not a great addition to the lineup. The mini 2 is great for beginners and the mini 3 pro is great for people who want the features without the weight. I feel like if you are buying the mini 3 you should just buy the mini 2 and save a bit of money
Alas now, as expected, the Mini 2 has been discontinued so it’s either the Mini 2SE, 3, or 3pro.
I got the mini 2 from Costco 3 months ago. And just exchanged it over the weekend because the mini 3 is the same price there.
The DJi mini2 has now been discontinued sadly otherwise the best one is the DJi Mini3
Yeah now a mini 3 is worth just as much as the mini 2 was nuts
@@JWNRW59 I am going to get myself the mini 3
I've just lost my Mini 2 and as its now discontinued looking at the Mini 3 or Mini 3 Pro.I have a load of batteries and props etc. Will these work with both or are they version specific?
One thing you failed to mention. You can only share your videos on Tik Tok, UA-cam, or FB if you are a licensed drone pilot. FAA considers public postings on Tik Tok, You Tube, and FB as potential revenue generators which requires a Part 107 license. You can however share your videos and pictures on FB if you keep them restricted to only your friend's list.
Just came across your channel - I am looking to upgrade my drone and this has helped alot.
Thank you, great channel 👌🙏
Awesome thank you 😊
Thanks for the excellent comparison of the 3 Minis 💛
Thank you
I’m new to drones but watched a ton of videos before taking the plunge.
Hopefully the footage I get will be worth it though 🤞
im sure it will ! Enjoy !
@@DMProductions thank you. And thank you for making videos like this one that helped me make the choice & also helping me to get the most out of my purchase. Have a great day 😀
I’m confused, let’s say you do decided to get the bigger battery 🔋 if you were asked about the weight of your drone of course by someone official I’m only going to claim the smaller one and pop it in unless you have to register you extra battery or remote ID that also
Great video, on the dji website it states the mini 3 has a 48mp camera? Or am I missing something? Looking at upgrading from my mini 2
Looked on Argos website & it is 12mp, shame DJI can't get it right on their own products?
Great video but I am sticking with my Mini 2 now.
Great video and break down comparison between the three drones 👍
Thank you 😊
Am i understand right: dji spark had active track...
Dji mini 2 + 3 no more?
Wonderful comparison. So clear and simply put for a newbie like me. Really helps me cut through the noise and get the drone for my needs rather than paying for features I won't use
You're missing a crucial problem - DJI mini 3 doesn't have its API exposed, which means no 3rd party software can drive your drone. If you want to do any advanced stuff you're out of luck with the Mini 3 and mini 3 pro.
Question: When turning on for a flight does it matter whether you turn on the drone or the controller first (I have the Mini 3 Pro if it matters)?
Careful with those quikshots! My mini2 is currently in a tree in Croatia
Very simple but easy to understand video. Well done Darren
Thanks 👍
Get a used mini 2 with fly more combo. You will be happy af for the money you payed (which is half the price of the mini 3) this all is assuming you have good used market like we have here in germany
How do you get round the registration ? If i buy second hand will it already be registered
Thanks.
Love your DJI vids bud! Keep up the good work?
Thank you for this detailed comparison. Mini 3 PRO for more advanced features, Mini 3 for beginners or for enthusiasts with high end models and would like a portable drone.
Hi mate i have the mini 2 currently and wondering is the raw quality on photos alot better on the mini 3 pro?
I got a DJI mini 2 with 3 batteries, refurbished from DJI on eBay, for $370, def worth it
Hi Darren, great videos on the smaller drones.
Andy
Fantastic, that's answered my previous question and tons more, thank you 👍👍
FANTASTIC video thank you very much!! 👍👍
Thank you too!
Has the mini 3 the same sensor as the mini 3 pro? Do you know if it has a crop factor as you change mode from photo to video? Thank you for the review!
A simple question it's worth buying this controller against the classic one 7:07?
The info it's very nice thank you so much for sharing
Yes the rc is much better
Just a correction, built-in HDR affects video only, not photos, so that doesn't make Mini 3 photos better than Mini 2. HDR photos are created by photo merging in post processing. Glad I didn't upgrade from my Mini 2 fly more combo as I'm mostly interested in aerial photography, mostly daylight conditions. Also, Mini 3 still has a native 12 mp camera. For first time drone byers though, Mini 3 pro with new rc controller is the best choice 😀
Thanks for the video, good work Sir
Mini 2 Se or mini 3 ? But i Wanna buy the fly More combo mini2 Se its 489€ or Should i get With that Money the mini 3
Go for the mini 3 it’s much better
Very helpful. Thank you. You have a new subscriber!
Thanks for the sub!
I Luv how you guys say Batteries (Bat Trees)
Do you need a rid controller on the dji mini 3 pro if you're not flying commercially?
Hi Darren where can I get the extended battery for Mini 3 from
Anywhere outside of Europe
hey Darren, can you use the rc controller wiht the dji flight sim software? cheers Steve
Is it possible to link Mini 3 with the old DJI smart controller, since it's usung Ocusyc 2.0
I have the mini 2. Got the 3pro and the range was just awful I actually returned it.
Are you talking about flying in the UK?
Is 3 pro better for mountains videos and videos near to the water than normal 3 ? Im begginer, but i live in Norway now, so i want to shoot mountains and fjords mostly
Great video Darren, I love all three! Lol 😂 more money to spend!! Thanks for all the info 👍
Amazing video. Everything I needed to know and much. Liked and subscribed. Good job!. 👍
Thank you 😊
Do you ever use any fimi drones? If you do, how do they compare
Pro advice for you here. Ready, set, DON’T 😊
I was considering the mini 2 but I think I'll save a few more dollars and get the 3 pro
