The boxes in the back would have had a covering and items inside for prayers. I opened one once that had shells, a note on paper, some seeds, and a tiny seahorse, was very cool.

I’m so glad you mentioned (briefly) the history of the swastik symbol. Not many people realize this was a good luck symbol long before it was unfortunately perverted by the Nazis. You definitely know your stuff and I enjoy the throwback vintage commercials at the end of your very informative videos! Two for one history!!

The arms of the Nazi swastika go to the right--the arms of the other symbol to the left.

This is an item which we saw numerous times in our business travels to Thailand. They were sold as "Antiques " in the Jatachuck market in Bangkok and also in Chaing Mai when in fact they were masterfully made to look antique. Therefore , I would use caution when bidding on these!

Just wanted to point out that the swastika on these Buddahs meaning peace usually point or rotate to the left whereas the German Nazi swastika always points down rotating to the right.

The right-facing swastika is often referred to as the gyaku manji (逆卍, lit. "reverse swastika") or migi manji (右卍, lit. "right swastika"), and can also be called kagi jūji (鉤十字, literally "hook cross").
    They are opposites

Loved the presentation and the shared Knowledge about these beautiful Buddhas. Especially the wide range of materials used in making them.
Wonder what to look for in Fake or reproductions that are newer. Do they ever copy signature? And what are newer ones made of? Thank you for your time and Helpfulness!!

I really enjoy your videos you do a lot of great research and encourage other sellers. I must say though this video seemed a little off, I don’t know if it’s a metaphor or some kind of strange thing but the idea of profiting off of selling Buddhas doesn’t seem like it’s necessarily a good thing. I tend to not sell religious things anymore, I used to buy and sell lots of old Catholic stuff from Mexico, actually most of it was made in Italy, The high-end stuff.
I understand your good intentions to encourage other sellers. It seems a little strange though right now because this is the slowest eBay sales I’ve ever been for me. Selling maybe two or three items a week, it’s barely lunch money.
I know what you mean about rare Buddhas, I helped a woman move out of her home in Palm Springs one time. Even though she just lived in a kind of fancy mobile home she had a collection of over 700 Buddhas. After she paid me for helping her for three days and driving the truck and unloading and all of that,, she said here’s a tip and gave me a solid brass Buddha about 3 feet tall.
Not something I will be selling but maybe I’ll trade it someday for a rowboat or a comfortable hammock.

The idea of shipping something worth such a large amount of money scares the bejeezus out of me. I wouldn't know what shipping service to use or anything. My mum made a $700 (CAD) sale recently and she checked off that a signature was required but they left it on the buyer's porch.. No signature. Thankfully she got it okay, but if it had been stolen? Yeesh.
Maybe I should look up the sellers of some of the pieces in this video and ask them..?

The learning curve in the market of Chinese ( and Asian) antiques is quite shallow. About 97-99% of the items available on a daily basis are fakes or reproductions meaning they are worth no more than $50-200 and often less than that, even if they appear to be really "pretty" or "old" or both. There is also enough people who have possessed some knowledge and are scouting the markets continuously, so if there is anything interesting out there, it will not sit for long waiting for a potential buyer. Most items sold online for $2-10K or more a piece are quite rare and the price reflects that, (similarly as is with the western antiques- however the antiques of the western world are not copied by the truckloads). The online objects are usually sold by people who know what they are doing and were happy to buy them from a collector, dealer or from the local auction house to see a moderate 100-200% return on a flip. Beware however buying a fake for that price...

Just so you are aware of the "swastika" symbol is as it was stolen and used as it was the true origin is in the stars. There are 4 seasons and the big dipper's tail points to the north star Polaris. So you have 4 positions in the sky, ie the symbol you see.
