    It has come to my attention that some states may have laws on milk crates as crazy at that sounds. You will want to check your local area laws in your area if you plan on messing with theses. Some areas have banned owning labeled ones, and others just say you can't buy or sell labeled ones. All the ones shown in the video are pre-1987 and I could not find any warnings on them as they are all pre-1980 it appears.

    We bought gobs of them to put rocks in when we had to clear off a 3'x30' section next to the house that the previous owners had covered in landscape fabric and heaped on rocks. When the foundation needed repair all that had to come out. What a pain! So wheelbarrows at a time we hauled them to an area where we made a 'rock wall' out of them 3 crates high and 7 crates long and still had more rock so we made another rock wall in another area, same way. Also used them to store tools and fluids in the vehicle, plus stuff around the house and in the garage. We originally got them for $0.50 each in bulk and noticed folks were selling them for $4 each, so we started to do that w/ the extras. One day a gentleman asked what colors and names we had and he specifically picked those and bought 10. We were able to buy several dozen more from someone doing a house rehab and needing to get rid of them ASAP. When I advertised those on facebook this same gentleman wanted more. I started to get curious as to WHY so did some research on eBay and immediately let him know they're no longer for sale! So now I need to do an inventory and take pics of all that are left and get them listed on eBay. Thanks for the great info about where to find them, how to date them, etc.! The size doesn't bother me because some of the first things we ever sold were fancy tire rims, a huge large format printer (free from a dumpster and sold for over $150), a very large remote control truck (also free from same place and sold for $100), luggage, and large coolers. We had to dive in with both feet and learn quickly how to pack big, heavy items.

    I still have 5-6. And yes I have my albums in 2 of them. But I have used them for 40 years. The other day I used it to sit while gardening. They are well worth having for many things.

    Learned this with Golf bags, you get more value out of the bag itself than the clubs. Helps when find money in a pocket as well.
    I describe it as a language not many can speak. You can take your time, be last and yet still find value once you know how to speak this language.

    When I was a young teen in the seventies, yes, we had albums in milk crates in the southern USA. This is a good and informative video. TFS

    All of the crates are from a specific time or era, and made for companies that no longer exists. And they're useful. I've yelled at my local ReStore for tossing a milk crate into their dumpster. Better to put them out with a $10 price tag; they fly out the door. At worst, some dude would buy the crate to carry his tools!

    With the cost of shipping, the sell through rate, and the rarity, is this really worth anyone's time? I won't be pursuing this.

    I can see where some of the comments in the chat are coming from with the crates, it doesn't look very clear in the US on selling these crates. Here in the UK, there are many crates you can buy and sell without any hassle with some decent money to be made on some of them. Love your enthusiasm in the video Thank You, Don. Charles in the UK

    Milk crates are illegal to sell.

    • @TheAuctionProfessor
      @TheAuctionProfessor 22 дні тому +16

      Sorry but that is not true. I address the marking on the crates that say that in this video. Currently used crates that are stolen are illegal, but not defunked company crates.

    • @TheJoshGalt
      @TheJoshGalt 22 дні тому +5

      @@TheAuctionProfessor The law and act are literally stamped on the crates: Pennsylvania Law Act No. 37, 1987 - "Amending Title 18 (Crimes and Offenses) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes, providing for identification, possession and unlawful use of shopping carts, laundry carts, dairy cases, egg baskets, poultry boxes, bakery trays and bakery baskets; and providing a penalty." Signed into law by Robert Casey.

      Then why can I buy them from the plastics company that makes them or Michael's, Walmart or Amazon? Only if they are stolen from a dairy are they illegal to sell.
      He said these crates, that he sells, are from companies that are no longer in business.

    • @TheJoshGalt
      @TheJoshGalt 22 дні тому +1

      @@M.CampbellThat doesn’t matter. They are purposed for dairy. If a company goes bankrupt or merges, then the property is transferred to the new company or trustee. Your Amazon crates are not made for dairy or handled by the DFA. I don’t make the laws.

    • @TheAuctionProfessor
      @TheAuctionProfessor 22 дні тому +8

      That's only for using stolen, or currently in use items without permission. I can buy, sell, and trade shopping carts, dairy cases, egg baskets, boultry boxes, bakery trays all day long as long as they were legally acquired. As your statute states "unlawful use" specifically, which is the crime and offenses violation aspect. It is not unlawful to legally buy or sell an item not in use from a defunked business. Stamping the statute into a crate changes nothing as it is always illegal to steal and use someone elses property. It was stamped into them to discourage people from taking them. At the same time the companies were also making them for personal use. It is not illegal to go down back then to K-Mart and buy a new milk crate to use. It's not the item in question that is the issue, but the unlawful use of someone else's property in general that is the violation.
