Malagueña | Francisco Tárrega | Classical Guitar Tutorial 1 of 2 | NBN Guitar

- 'Malagueña Fácil' is the piece represented in this tutorial. Although the right-hand fingerings are absent in the score I have taken the liberty of suggesting that the player use a 'flamenco' approach for the thumb.
This piece presents the guitarist with a wonderful opportunity to develop or use the apoyando technique with the thumb whereby the thumb comes to rest on the string below. This is a common technique used by flamenco guitarists as a way to cut through the sound of singing and dancing in a live situation. A classical guitarists is well-served by developing and using this technique when required.
Francisco Tárrega was a true hero of the guitar with a prolific compositional output rivalled by few guitarists even today. In addition to being a wonderful composer he was also a brilliant virtuoso responsible for almost single-handedly developing modern classical guitar technique and establishing a solid repertoire.

Finally ...someone how can do a tutorial ..I searched everywhere for this piece ...Amazing
I'm glad you found something to help you along. I searched to find the full original version of this. I was in a similar situation to you...searching and only finding fragments that had the opening riff and then it became like a jam session. I can assure you that this is an exact reproduction of the original written by the maestro himself. The tutorial is in 2 parts so be sure to click on the link in the description to get to the next video. I also have a link to free tabs in the description. Just click on it then enter $0 when prompted followed by your email address and they're yours!
Nice playing and great sound...👏
It is important to understand that malagueña is a palo or distinct type of flamenco music as are, say, soleares and bulerìas. It has a rhythm pattern and distinct falsetas or riffs associated with it. Both Tàrrega (a Spaniard) and Lecuona (a Cuban) memorialized their versión in a formal composition. You can watch Paco de Lucìa, Pepe Romero, or, Josè Feliciano play their own versión. So when you say the versions you have watched on UA-cam start off then seem to drift, you are absolutely correct. The guitarist starts where the urge leades him then branches out from there based on what he feels like at that momento. The next time he/she plays will probably be different.
Indeed Ed. The compas, falsetta are of vital importance in flamenco music as you correctly stated. I was a bit frustrated that I couldn't find an accurate version of Tarrega's Malaguena online. It seemed strange to me considering how widely it is played. I guess it's one of those compositions where people learn the main riff and then extemporise from there. Thanks for your awesome comment sharing your knowledge.
Absolutely fantastic lesson. Thank you.
Hey Bogumil! It's been quite some time. I hope you're well my friend.
@@nbnguitar I am fine, thank you. I hope you are fine as well. Kind regards.
Your videos are great sir. I just began my guitar journey this summer. I've spent a lot of time sifting through classical guitar videos on UA-cam. You cover really advanced stuff in a way that is simple, easy to understand, and doesn't make it seem impossible which is encouraging. Thanks for providing this service. I really appreciate it!

Olá! Já tem malaguenã 2?
Great tutorial...Just a few comments on what is a malaqueña and Tárrega's versión. 1. A malagueña is a style of flamenco music, NOT a particular song. It is played in E phyrgian and has a 3/4 base rhythm.
2.Since flamenco music was handed down from person to person without formal notation, certain motives became identified with the style. Normal players just repeated what they had heard. The really talented expanded and created their own versions.
3. The video you mentioned of Lucareli is actually a piece from Lecuona's Suite Española, orignally written for piano that has been transcribed for guitar and is probably the best known example of a malagueña.
4. Tárrega died in 1909 when Lecuona was just a boy. Tárrega simply took the malagueña style, put together falsetas -- or licks to his own liking -- and transcribed it.
5. You can search on UA-cam for versions by Paco de Lucía, Pepe Romero, José Feliciano -- the list is long and well worth the search to see how each made the style their own.
I truly wish more people could offer such insightful, educational, and well-thought out comments like this one. Ed hats off to you sir for providing not only me but everyone else that watches and reads the comments section with this invaluable information.
It's not often you see such informative posts on UA-cam. Never stop mate.

Hola Josua... Desde Uruguay nos gustaría pedirte si podrías hacer un Tutorial de Preludios americanos n. 3 "Campo" de Abel Carlevaro... abrazo a la distancia
Hola Julio! Abel Carlevaro is awesome. I don't know any of his pieces though but I'll absolutely look into his music in 2017. Feliz Navidad!
As soon as i can...i`ll back you with funds because you are worth it...you make an old man happy with your teaching sets ...very precise.
That's a very kind gesture Mr. Nalty. In the meantime....enjoy :)
Best guitar lesson I've had in 20 years - nice job Joshua
I hope it's not the only lesson you've had in 20 years hahaha
Joshua is great BUT never seems to give lesson 2!!!!!!!! I'm still awaiting Gran Vals 2!!!!!
Haha cheers Graham. I need to make a $$ or two hence the reason I don't make all of my tutorials available. Doing what I do requires a lot of resources in terms of equipment, time, and the running costs associated with a website.
Joshua
Love your tutorials. I did subscribe and got the tabs. I'm new to classical guitar and thought this piece would be less challenging to learn. I was wrong. There is part I just can't seem to get right and it is really frustrating. Haven't touched my guitar in week now. Going to get back to it and try again. Just want to say how much I enjoy your lessons.
Hi Wesley. Thank you so much for writing this comment. If you're just starting out I would say this piece is far too challenging for a newbie. It'd be better to go with some of the easier Etudes that I've posted up or lovely pieces like Spanish Romance and Lagrima. Also try the Giuliani exercises 1 to 10. Let your fingers fly!
This guy has a touch of dedication to the dots.......& ...maybe... a whole lot more.
I think.............i`ll follow.............................Him.!
Hey Locksley. I do indeed have a lot of dedication to the guitar and music in general. Thanks for your comment :)
Amazing Josh! I have searched for this one and have only ended up trying o piece it together. This has become one of my favorite channels! The tutorial's are excellent! How do I get the sheet music to Malaguena? Thanks again!

You're welcome Colin. Happy to be of service. I hope my Oral Communication and Public Speaking teachers that I had at boarding school could read some of these comments hahaha. Their teaching helped me immensely with speaking clearly and without too many 'fillers'. Thanks teachers and thanks for leaving such a nice comment Colin J.
