I started my guitar journey at 16 years old - I am now 47. My experience has been mostly with rock, blues, and metal. My love for classical music comes from my experience and a trumpet player and my experience in concert bands and youth orchestra. In recent years i have endeavored to learn classical guitar in an attempt to combine two passions. I learn finger picking from Dust in the Wind.. i learned Dee by Randy Rhodes... on to Bach Bouree in Em.. Greensleves.. and now Canon in D. I have been through many tutorials on youtube and this is by far the best. And your smile man.. such obvious joy in playing guitar.. thanks for the teaching and inspiration, Josh.
A lovely comment for me to read early into 2019 Joel. Thanks for sharing part of your musical story with me and the rest of the NBN community here on UA-cam. I love Dust in the wind and Dee - both excellent compositions. Thank you for your kind words about my enthusiasm for teaching and playing. I'm really happy to hear that you're still going strong after 30+ years of jamming across a wide variety of instruments in what sounds like an even wider array of musical situations. Awesome. Keep on keeping on!
You deserve the smile! The patience required for what you do is enviable. Have you ever considered teaching Per-Olov's version of this lovely piece? The UA-cam performance by Tyler Grotenhuis is quite inspiring even for a guitar relic like myself.
Haha thanks Harlie and thank you kindly for joining up as a premium member too!!! I do play a very similar version to Per-Olov in the Pachebel's Canon in D: Total Mastery course that I have on the website. Now that you're a premium member you can access that course as part of your membership. Regarding my patience - I think I developed that years ago when I would teach one of my cousin's how to play some of the classical pieces I could play. He could play exceptionally well but he couldn't read a bar of music or tabs. So we would sit down and jam after school and I would teach him these lovely pieces note-by-note just like I do in these tutorials.
Hi there. Thanks a lot for that comment. I was a teacher a few years ago so I guess those skills in the classroom have translated across to UA-cam haha. You're welcome too. Plenty more coming so stay tuned. Any suggestions for another piece?
came across your channel by chance n i am glad that i did. i stopped playing the guitar 10 years back but after watching ur videos i have started playing again. my fingers are a bit stiff but slowly coming back to where it was 10 yrs back. thank you so much. you are doing a great job. pls continue to post more lessons. God bless.
Hello. I'm glad that you found it too. UA-cam has created some amazing opportunities for guitarists like you and me. There's such a wealth of information out there - some good; some not so good. I hope your fingers are limbering up after 10 years away from the guitar. I'll be posting many more lessons this year so stay tuned.
Ten years is a long time But fortunately, the techniques learned always stays. Extremely happy to hear that u will be uploading more songs. thankyou so much in advance.
Thank you sooo much for the tutorial, Josh. I'm currently learning to play Study in E Minor and Canon in D . And your videos are really really helpful. Very clear instructions. I don't need the tabs by the way xD because I find learning by watching your videos easier than by looking at the tabs . Thank You. (already Liked , and Subbed)
Thank you very much for all of those beautiful tutorials! I'm some grateful and I'm so proude of those people like you! It was a period in my life i just forgot about my guitar but you and your lessons helped me to remember how beautiful it is to play on guitar. P.S. sorry for my english, I'm russian thouh, and i hope you understand my thoughts. Thank you very much for all the work you do for people like me!
I was wondering if after every very slow instructional section ...you could play the slow section in a moderato speed . And so... melody retention of each section would flow moderately and be more easily retained for those who have never heard this beautiful musical piece before. I believe this would facilitate the student short memory retention. The rest is just muscle memory by the right execution. Over all , I have to say you have a good instructional video. Cheers! Hi Daniello. Great suggestion although there's nothing I can do about it now obviously. However, I did make an excellent course for just this piece that's available on my website. Thanks for your kind words about my video :)
Hey you're welcome Daniel. You know I just released a comprehensive course to really master this piece. The version in the course is different to this one - it's better and has a few added bars. The course is great man and it isn't too expensive. There's a promo video of it on my UA-cam channel in the Canon in D playlist I've created. Anyways, have fun man and all the best.
Hi Juan. That's awesome. I did put a lot of effort into creating that transcription. I suggest that you join up to the Canon in D: Total Mastery course. More info is on my website :D
I've been looking for a simplified tutorial from someone who can explain in straight-forward terms....NO LUCK....until I found your video...EXCELLENT LESSON! Can you send me your e-mail to ask you questions about other pieces you might have or would consider doing.....Thanks, Doc
Hi Harry. I'm all about trying to explain these pieces in the most straight-forward way possible without too much self-promotion and waffling. Thanks a bunch for saying my lesson is excellent. My email can be found if you click on the 'About' tab on the channel homepage :D
you probably dont give a shit but if you're stoned like me atm you can stream pretty much all of the latest movies and series on instaflixxer. Been binge watching with my girlfriend for the last weeks :)
Hi Amely. Thanks for your kind words. You can download the tabs yourself. If you want the free tabs just click on the link in the description and follow the instructions. If you want a paid version that has the left & right-hand suggested fingerings with both tabs and standard notation click on the link in the description. It's quicker than waiting for me to send them out to you :D

Hello Mr Joshua I have subscribed to your channel, liked couple of your videos that i came to but I have been wondering if this is the whole version because i saw playing a part of the song and you're unlike the others you're more faithful to the original version and finally, I hope you reply to my comment soon.
+Hady Abdulnasser Hi. Actually this is my first iteration of Canon in D. I have another version on my channel that you may like even more that contains additional sections. Thanks for subbing and writing a comment!
Thanks Eddie. That's awesome! You can get the tabs in two ways: Click on the link in the description and enter $0 when prompted and then you can download them yourself or you can leave your email and I'll send them out to you!
Josh do you do moonlight sonata.I have the tab but knowing how to finger it😖Doesn't show the fingers on right hand and left never sure how to bar. Some books show and others don't. The money I waste on books.
I sure do! I have two tutorials for 'Moonlight Sonata' that cover the piece from beginning to the end. My paid transcription has the fingering for both hands AND where to bar :D with sheet music on the top and tabs underneath. If you combine that with the two tutorials on UA-cam you'll be playing it in no time (provided you practice of course). gum.co/joshuarogersmoonlight
Hey Realtalk-san! You are correct but this piece features drop-D tuning! I think I mention it in the video and it is also in the description. So that makes the 5th fret on the 6th (E) string a G.

Hey Sensei! You say that right after the F sharp minor you use the G on the E-String. But 5th fret on E-String is an A isnt it?
Hey Realtalk-san! You are correct but this piece features drop-D tuning! I think I mention it in the video and it is also in the description. So that makes the 5th fret on the 6th (E) string a G.
yes u are right i tunes my E string down to an D2 and it sounds good
Realtalk Excellent! Now you're winning!
Beautiful sir! Where do I find the tabs? Thanks
