For as little as $100 a month, you can have perfectly clean solar panels. As long as you are saving $200 a month on your electric - sounds like a great deal!

20 panels will get you $245 annual. Over 25 year lifespan. You'll save about $7k... but it costs 25k for install... solar is dead. Hydro and and nuclear is the only way

@@matthewbutler8247245$ savings annually? that’s just not the truth brother in the solar business we have some houses that are saving a hundred+ per month that’s 1200 per year 1200x25 that’s 30k in savings and then at the end you own the equipment and that’s if electricity company’s were to not increase every year with inflation which they do

Why don't they just make windshield wiper type attachments for panels?

Once or twice a year cleaning seems fine and cost-effective too. Household solar systems in NZ can be anything between $10k - $15k. Seems sensible to keep them as efficient as possible. Wash them yourself if you can, but obviously a pro for those that can't.

Agree with everything said except that I can’t wrap my head around how dirty panels would in any literally way shorten the lifespan of the panels..?
I’d imagine the “efficiency” aspect of the pitch for them to be cleaned is by far the most important factor

What i meant by that is build ip of dirt encourages organic growth such as algae, lichen.
Basically my thought process behind that statement.
Thanks for the feedback. And for watching because dirt retains the moisture...

I read that the buildup of mineral deposits in areas of the panel create localized heating in that one spot, it’s almost like the greenhouse effect that overheats the solar panel, probably doesn’t cause that much damage but nevertheless reduces efficiency

      @tylerfb1 10 місяців тому

I don’t think he knows what he’s talking about.
That being said, “hot spots” degrade panels, and I’ve read literature that says that partial shading can cause hot spots. I don’t know how partial shading would cause that, but I’ve read it in more than one place.

I’ve worked in solar for over 20 years and he is spot on. The fact that there is so many reasons for the panels to go bad. Micro fractures when they installed stepping on the panel? Cleaning helps productivity. Dirty panels produce but less. I work for sun run and am in happy I give more than I get. I can take the whole system down anyone yeah that long! And put it back. The cleaning business lacks knowledge of the actual system not everything is the same. Suns of solar cleaning and maintenance:)

How often do they need cleaning?
Sounds like a lot of the eventual savings from them, after paying off the large upfront cost of them, will go towards keeping them clean?

It's good to know it actually this much work to run a solar panel. Time is money. Perhaps can shorten your lifespans if you trip and fall off the roof while cleaning it.
I'll never buy any solar panels now.

  • @johnwyman6126

Solar panels last a whole lot longer than only 25 years. Most of them are warranted for 25 years of 90% or greater power output. It's the warranty not the lifespan. Remember, they are made of glass, aluminum, and silicon (another metal), and they have no moving parts. How many other things do you own that have a 25 year warranty?
Yes, they should be cleaned once in a while, just like the outside of your windows should be. They can be cleaned the same way with a hose end that mixes a soap solution and sprays it out.
By the way, Maxeon solar panels have a 40 year warranty.

Lower your electric bill. Buy solar panels
Now pay someone to clean them.
    Do you wash windows too.
    Seal coat driveways.
Pressure clean. Your time is worth nothing to me. When you put In the time and pay all the expenses of owning a business. Then your prices will be justified.

I had a house with solar panels on roof. Had to be cleaned several times a yr for efficiency. Pollen and road film was the worst. Spent $21,000 for a complete set up. The best month of return is those summer months when sun is it's highest. I made about 78.00 worth of power during the summer months. 40 to $50 during the winter.
Also putting those panels on your roof voids your roof warranty. Do not make the stupid mistake I did. Stay away from soal panels on your roof.😢

It all depends on where you live. I do not get peek production during summer. Mine is in april/may because of the much cooler weather and still long days. I might need to clean them every other year if I feel like it.
