You and I both! I had to retire early to take care of my husband. I normally sew all the time but I have been knitting and crocheting since I was 7 years old. I’m almost 60 and started making socks about 12 years ago... I still have trouble with the kitchener stitch🤦🏽♀️. New subscriber here! Thank you so much!!!
OMG right? Thanks to all the awesome people who provide free tutorials on UA-cam. Ex: My friends were getting $800 hair extensions but not me. UA-cam Learn for free! I started a craft channel of my own, but will not link here bcs that's not why I'm here. I'm so grateful for this tutorial and happy that a woman of color is giving it!
This video has been up 2 years now. I just found it and first class and I'm floored by the amount of information I didn't know and I've knit 10+ pairs of socks. Thank you dearly for your knowledge and sharing it!
I must have Subscribed a while ago! And got Chicken of making socks and I instead dived into making Hats because it seems easier to do. But I'm back now and I'm ready to try this! Thank Denise for your Tutorial on how to do this!
I really, really appreciate this class for free. As a fairly new knitter, I found it so hard to find answers to my questions, particularly concerning sock techniques; heel placements, heel types, how to not make my cuff so tight I can't get my new sock easily. Trial and error have gotten me along so far, but having things like available is just wonderful!! Thank you so very much!
My favourite way of getting socks to not be too tight to get over my heel is to cast on double the stitches required, then for the first row work into every other loop. You end up with lots of stretch and a slightly scalloped edge. If you don,t want the scallop then knit and purl two stitches together across the whole first round.
I just wanted to say, thank you for making this a free class, it is absolutely amazing and many of us re grateful even 2 years later your reaching many knitters!!! Big hugs :)
So excited to start knitting socks the "right way". I'm a self-taught knitter and still learning along the way. I love that you are doing this series!! Thank you so much!
I love your "useless informations" and your general information is enormously helpful to talk Sock knitting. This class will be so cool and you are such a nice person and as a teacher you are speaking very clear and understandable, even for me as a German. Thank you, Denise!
Hi, Love your voice and you're an excellent teacher. I have been knitting socks for years, there is always something to learn. Looking forward to following your instructions.
Omg!!! I see this is from like 2yrs ago, right now I'm only just starting my sock knitting journey!! How incredible to find these wonderful skill building videos, and bits at a time, terminology and everything to know about socks. Thank God!! ❤❤❤❤
I just want to say that I unfortunately just found you today and am starting to binge watch your sock series! You are such a good teacher, you explain extremely well and are detail oriented which I LOVE!!!!! I subscribed to your channel as well because I just can't see my knitting life evolving without you!
Thank you so much for this sock class! I love and have knit socks before, but I am looking forward to learning new techniques and tips from you. I have been away from knitting for over ten years and just within the last two weeks have gotten back into it. I have been binge-watching knitting podcasts and am so very happy to have found you just this past week. I recently went through my old stash of yarn and have a bunch of sock yarns! I sure hope sock yarn does not have a "shelf life" and that it is all still good to use. I might however treat myself to some new needles. Thanks again Denise, this is such a great opportunity. Hugs :)
What a natural teacher! I’ve just come from my Wednesday night knitting group and the discussion was about sock knitting. I am now forwarding this to everyone in the group. Thank you for doing this. Even though I am a long time knitter, there is ALWAYS something new to learn.....the tips alone are fabulous!! Thank you again!
I was determined to learn to make socks this year (2022) and I did it! Thankfully, I found your No Fear Socks tutorials. I loved how patient you were. It is obvious that you care very much about teaching others. I took my time and completed a pair of socks for my hubby which he wears proudly. I'm getting ready to knit a pair for myself now. Thank you very much!!
I made a commitment to start knitting on November 1, 2021 and I just found this video today! Wow! I've got a lot of catching up to do! I usually crochet! Can't wait to knit my first pair of socks! Girl, I resonate with your enthusiasm! Thank you so very MUCH!!
At this point, I'm watching this 2 years after she posted, I am enjoying it so much! The history of same of the yarns, i am more an intermediate knitter and I really want to knit socks and so far I'm loving these videos! Thank you so much for making them!
Seriously! I'm so glad I found this!!! every time I had a question you answered it. I've wanted to make socks forever and a lot of the "beginner" friendly videos were not detailed enough for me. You are an incredible teacher. I know you created this FOREVER ago, I just wanted you to know it's still helping and I'm so thankful for you.
Hi Tori, thank you so much for watching. I am so glad that you found my little corner of the web also! Even though it was made forever ago, I do hope that you find the information and lessons helpful. Happy Sock Knitting!
I discovered Class 13 first and thought maybe I should follow along from the beginning to ensure I learn as much as I can. I am bound and determined to actually learn to knit socks this year (2023). I have everything I need to start but other projects (hats, sweaters, charity work) always seem more important. I guess I'm procrastinating a wee bit. I am so grateful that you are dedicated to helping others learn all the tips and tricks for sock knitting. You are very thorough teacher which is highly appreciated. Thank you so much!
Thanks SO much for doing this Denise! I've been knitting socks for a long time, but I'm excited to learn some new techniques and tips. Love your channel. ❤️💕❤️💕
My 11 year old granddaughter lives hours away from me so the only way I can support her desire to master knitting is through online classes and tutorials. How grateful I am for your generous and gentle approach to teaching the skills necessary to succeed at sock knitting.
It is so refreshing having someone with a nice clear but not harsh voice and not throwing herself around. It puts you off watching them. I loved this video and cannot wait to start knitting along with you. I love your voice and sense of humour, what a great teacher you are, thank you so much for teaching us newbies xx
I am SO excited to have stumbled upon this class! I’ve been knitting for several years but I don’t really have any enthusiasm for knitting socks-but I want to! There are so many beautiful sock patterns and yarn out there. I want to try again and hopefully learn to love it. Thank you so much!
Oh my goodness, Earth Tones Girl! I am so sorry I missed this is February (I am studying to be a Buddhist Chaplain and was taking many classes and barely knitting). But I have found you now and I am very excited! ❤️🐑❤️🐑❤️. I am a very long time knitter but have not knitted many pairs of socks. I found this video very informative and plan to buy your pattern and follow along with your videos! Thank you for doing this! For bringing so much kindness and ease into the world! Beautiful! I found you by watching The Woolly Thistle. I love the yarn, too, and think it is beautiful!!! ❤️🐑❤️🐑❤️
New subscriber here. I’ve never made socks and there’s plenty of “tutorials” and information out there for socks but not you can follow along with so this is perfect for first time sock knitters. I know some terminology of sock knitting but I don’t have the confidence to start a pair. This idea is exciting to me. X
So excited I found your tutorial class. No fear class, can't wait until the next one. I'm determined to knit socks! Thank you so much for all your help.
I just recently started knitting socks and today I found your videos. OMG. Loving your videos and classes and enthusiasm. And also thank you for your generosity in not charging for these classes. I have learned so much from you just in the few videos I have watched so far today.
One word: nostepinne!! I agree that winding yarn by hand is tactile and I consider it the beginning of the project. I like to wind mine with a beautiful nostepinne. I'm looking forward to following your classes, this one was great.
I'm not going to lie, I had no idea what that word was or even meant. So I looked it up and ordered one immediately!!!!!! Thank you SO much for sharing that with us!!! I'm so excited!!!!
Great teacher, amazing host. You don't talk down to us like some do. You're not braggy or preachy. You just share SO much great information! A new fan for sure! Amazing job!
I just found you! You're voice is lovely and soothing, and you explain things well. I'm going to listen to this again to help decide on equipment and yarn. Thanks so much!
I have tried and tried to knit socks - for some reason, I just can't do it. I've knit mittens, scarves, hats, cowls, even a sweater, but socks just haven't happened. This spring, I am determined, when I found Needles at the Ready and they recommended the course, I stopped their podcast, opened a new tab and found you. Hooray. Now, my stitch markers are non removable. Amazon can have the right ones here by tuesday. I'm off to shop. This is a year late but the magic of UA-cam is that it's new to me. Sort of a library of videos. Thank you SO much.
My first time seeing your podcast n lucky me cause I just made my first pair of socks so finding you n this class at the right time. You talked about needles but I never heard you say what size to get. I used us2 last time also where to get the pattern. I did not see a link for that. Thanks n I'm excited!
"Yarn chicken". Now I know what it's called when I'm guessing whether I can finish my row with the yarn I have (lol). New subbie here. Looking forward to making my first pair of socks...
You are GREAT!!! I love how descriptive you are. I’ve never heard anyone explain how I feel about knitting. You are explaining soooooo many things that I never understood but always wondered about and it really really really makes me want to knit more!!!
Denise: For those of us who don't use Instagram, will you let us know when you have bags for purchase on UA-cam? Looking forward to this class!! Thanks for your time and knowledge!!
I know there are a lot of people not on IG and I totally understand that! YES!! I will make sure announcements for bags will be made here on UA-cam too!!!
You are amazing your knowledge is wonderful and I am so enjoy listening to the information . I very new to knitting and loving it and trying socks for the first time. I’m so glad I found your videos.
I am new to your podcast and so excited about this class! One of my personal goals for 2020 is to learn to knit socks! I can’t wait to get started. Thank you! 💕
OK ....... Wonderful Denise......HERE WE GO , timing is right . First, I am So very appreciative that you have gifted us with these classes , Second, I and VERY excited !!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU !!!!! marcia
I have to laugh at how terminology changes. I called yarn, like the Kroy, a skein of yarn. The Legacy Fiber Arts would be hank. The hank would have to be wound into a ball. either on a yarn winder or 'by hand'.
Yes you absolutely can!!! Just keep in mind that I’m not going to really be covering that specific method. But you should be able to follow along the general sock knitting instructions.
I’ve knit socks for many years but I am following these lessons for your gracious manner of teaching so I can support my friends who are learning. Thanks ❤️
Thank you for making this class available at no cost. It was jam-packed full of info and even your "ramblings" were very helpful. Making socks is a goal of mine. Very thankful new subscriber!
Denise, you are such a lovely lady. Your voice is so soothing. Love to hear you speak. You are such a doll for making this a free class. Thank you fir your generosity.
I knit but a beginner. I have finished hats, scarves, sweaters and little toys. However, the sockaphobia is so real. Watching the Grocery Girls they had so many high praises to you. Loving that you are sharing your skills for many that at times that cannot afford. With the past year of 2020 this is a nice portable type of creativity and while at home when needing a nice quiet time. You are amazing.
Oh I just found you and I am soooo happy!! I have just started knitting about two months ago. I usually crochet but listening to you I know I can knit socks!!! Thank you for being detailed on the different supplies out there. I was so confused on what kind of yarn to use.
Oh my goodness! I have done a LOT of knitting but have never knit socks. Recently purchased yarn to do just that. Came to UA-cam to search for lessons and this is the first to pop up. Thank you! I am so excited to get started on my first pair of socks!
What a wonderful source of information you are !...ive been knitting for over 35 years, and I am extremely addicted to knitting socks...I enjoy listening to you and your enthusiasm.!.I am the exact same way...yarn makes me incredibly happy, as good tools as well......love your videos...thank you from Canada 🇨🇦
Ok, I am getting all my material together so I can start to knit my first pair of socks. And thank you for sharing and walking us through this, I have been knitting for about 2 years and it is a love hate relationship. I am so scared of messing it up or get frustrated and throw it across the room, but, practice is the only way to be come proficient at it. So I am jumping head first and can't wait to mess up and learn from it instead of running away, this is all because of you. Thank you again.
Thank you! You took the mystery out of sock knitting for me and got me started. I have made 3 pairs now and have the confidence to try different techniques to make my socks fit my foot better. Who knew how absolutely wonderful handmade socks are! My feet don’t seem to sweat in them, my socks and feet don’t have the odour one gets from shop socks and they are so warm in the best way - and I made them! Such a great tutorial. 😁 Liz from New Zealand
OMG! I absolutely love you! You are a delight to watch. Loved the knowledge you shared. Thank you so much for this free sock class. My first attempt to knit socks was a disaster. I’m determined to be a successful sock knitter and truly believe this class and your teaching method is perfect for me.
Hello, I just copy and pasted this to my friend who is preparing to make her first pair. You're such a delight. Thank you. Big Knitters love from France.
Thank you so much for posting this sock class. I've been using your short row heel in my socks but I have not watched the entire no fear sock knitting class. And yes I would like to see your yarn collection. It is difficult to buy yarn where I live and like to know of vendors that you and others are happy with. I have a limit of $20 per pair of sock for yarn. You are so calm and explain things so clearly and interestingly. You have the gift of teaching. I enjoy your joy and enthusiasm in your voice. Again thanks and God bless
I love sock knitting but I haven’t knit a pair in quite some time. What a natural instructor you are! Even if you were not covering one of my favorite subjects, I would enjoy your videos. Thanks. Happy knitting and many blessings to you.
Just found your channel randomly in my feed yesterday, (your Wool and Folk episode) and I am obsessed! Your personality and love for your family and your craft/art shine through in every word. I’ve watched many knitting focused channels and yours is by far my favorite.
So glad I found you! Went back to work 10 years ago as an accountant (I closed my indie dye yarn Co. ) and forgot how to knit socks! I searched a lot of videos but I just loved your technique, your soothing voice and most of all your style! What a great teacher, thank you for this.
New subscriber. Long time crafter and learned to knit at 7 years old, I am 61 now. I have wanted to learn to knit socks for awhile now. Excited to learn.
Thank you so much for your time and hard work. I appreciate your having the class for free. I will be saving them. I have grandkids that I learned how to knit for them. I love it. Thank you so much from Colorado 😁♥️🌞
Knitting socks 2 at a time is a life saver for me. It gives me 2 socks with the same tension throughout, which also means they’re generally to same size I’m just finding you 4years after you began these classes. I’ll slap the algorithm around later. Despite knitting since before the turn of the century, I’ve started approximately 30 socks. I’ve finished 2 pair. I’m forever finding different ways of making socks. This has prevented me from truly learning a single method. 😂
I’m a homesteader and learning self sufficiency skills and this is hugely helpful information. Brightest blessings to you for sharing your knowledge and your time.
Great explanation of materials. I took a sock class and I've learned more in this video than I learned in those classes. I gave up and am so excited to learn to knit along with your videos. Hoping to actually finish a pair of socks. Thank you so much.
This is awesome. I wish had access to all this information when I started knitting socks. I am an experienced sock knitter but I am hearing from so many people there is something in your class for all experience levels. Thank you so much
I just discovered your videos. I was almost ready to give up on sock knitting, but now I'm going to keep trying! Thank you for all the details you are including.
When you say "No one wants to see my whole stash of yarn" I'm over here like uhhh yes yes we do 😅😅 seeing yarn makes my heart happy.
LOL!
Mmm. I was wanting to see her yarn too. Oh I was disappointed when she said no one...,. Because I do. Please show us the yarn.
This made me laugh
I’m onboard too😂
Guess that makes me a no one! I do too!!!! 😂😂😂
My broke butt is delighted these sock knitting classes are free. Thank you so much for your generosity in sharing your skills.

Hey precious little broke butt!! I needed a laugh today, and wala, there you were.

One of my 2023 knitting goals is to make real socks. Thank you for making this class available and free to boot! (And I just subscribed!)
Just made my first pair of socks using four double pointed needles 😅. I’m so flipping proud of myself.

You're very welcome!
Denise, you are such a lovely lady. Your voice is so soothing. Love to hear you speak. You are such a doll for making this a free class. Thank you fir your generosity.
Thank you so much!
You are so welcome Bernadette!!
Not using the “good stuff” gives me courage to actually start. And the “wonderful yarn” is a gift to myself for completing the class!!!!!!!
Oh I just found you and I am soooo happy!! I have just started knitting about two months ago. I usually crochet but listening to you I know I can knit socks!!! Thank you for being detailed on the different supplies out there. I was so confused on what kind of yarn to use.
You. Are. TERRIFIC❤️ I'm so excited to start!
Oh my goodness! I have done a LOT of knitting but have never knit socks. Recently purchased yarn to do just that. Came to UA-cam to search for lessons and this is the first to pop up. Thank you! I am so excited to get started on my first pair of socks!
Same here :) Good Luck!

Me too!😃
Phenomenal teacher! I'm going to follow this to help me finish socks "in progress". Thank you for sharing your time.
Thank you very much Mary!!
You are so welcome!
I am so excited that I found you...just by this introduction I find that you already explain things very well and I sure appreciate you.
Thanks very much. Your instructions are excellent. I really want to get excited about sock knitting.
Thank you, Denise! This tutorial series and your calming voice were very helpful and informative during the pandemic. Take care!
You are so welcome Renee!
Liz from New Zealand
You are so welcome Lizzie!!! Thank you so much for your message and for watching!!!
OMG! I absolutely love you! You are a delight to watch. Loved the knowledge you shared. Thank you so much for this free sock class. My first attempt to knit socks was a disaster. I’m determined to be a successful sock knitter and truly believe this class and your teaching method is perfect for me.
I love your comment, "the quality of your tools." You are such a great instructor.
Hello, I just copy and pasted this to my friend who is preparing to make her first pair. You're such a delight. Thank you. Big Knitters love from France.
I appreciate your integrity - Let your yes be yes and no be no. Thank you
Thank you Stephanie!!!
What a wonderful teacher with clear communication skills
Thank you so much Jude.
Thank you so much! I've made One pair many years ago. This will be a nice refresher. Sincerely, Nina Jawnyj
I am so very excited! I’m a very new knitter but a very seasoned crocheter! I’m squealing with you!
Fantastic , need to pass this along to other new knitters , something like this has been over due , something that starts from basics
Love, Love Love your class! Your knowledge of yarn and knitting is amazing. Thank you & God Bless looking forward to the next class. 💖
Awww, Thank you so much Candy!!!
This is such a good job and very informative. Thank you for taking the time to set this up and giving back in this way.
You are so welcome!
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. Keep safe and be lucky 💞💞💞
I love sock knitting but I haven’t knit a pair in quite some time. What a natural instructor you are! Even if you were not covering one of my favorite subjects, I would enjoy your videos. Thanks. Happy knitting and many blessings to you.
Thank you so much!
Just found your channel randomly in my feed yesterday, (your Wool and Folk episode) and I am obsessed! Your personality and love for your family and your craft/art shine through in every word. I’ve watched many knitting focused channels and yours is by far my favorite.
Aww. thank you so much Sandie!!!
Those Susan Bates handi tools are absolute lifesavers!! I buy half a dozen at a time and give them to my stitchy friends!
So glad I found you! Went back to work 10 years ago as an accountant (I closed my indie dye yarn Co. ) and forgot how to knit socks! I searched a lot of videos but I just loved your technique, your soothing voice and most of all your style! What a great teacher, thank you for this.
You are so welcome!
I absolutely love winding my yarn......it makes me even more excited to begin creating.
New subscriber. Long time crafter and learned to knit at 7 years old, I am 61 now. I have wanted to learn to knit socks for awhile now. Excited to learn.
Welcome to my channel!! I'm so happy you're here!!!
Thank you for your generosity.
I’m a homesteader and learning self sufficiency skills and this is hugely helpful information. Brightest blessings to you for sharing your knowledge and your time.
Hi Nikki,
Thank you so much for your wonderful message. And thank you so much for watching! I love sock knitting and I want others to love it too!
@@EarthtonesgirlPodcast socks were the first thing on my knitting to do list 💙
I'm not new to knitting socks but I still find this so informative! Thank you, I loved watching this ❤🙏
You are so welcome Simona!!
Great explanation of materials. I took a sock class and I've learned more in this video than I learned in those classes. I gave up and am so excited to learn to knit along with your videos.
Hoping to actually finish a pair of socks. Thank you so much.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much for watching Kathy!!! I hope the details help you with your sock knitting!!!
