Well, I must be the most rookie You-Tube viewer ever! I just figured out that I can zoom in (close-up) for a better view of what Arne was doing with picking up the stitches on either side of the waste yarn! Who knew? Thank you so much, gentlemen, for a very clear and detailed video, and I am certainly going to try this technique with my next pair of socks. 😊
Thank you! This takes me back, to when I first “met” you two…..by googling “easy sock pattern”, and there you were! It was probably 5 or 6 years ago and I was so charmed by you both that I then watched every video you had posted. And I never stopped. You got me through the pandemic with my mind intact and continue to keep me entertained and inspired every week. You are treasures!
I'm the same. Finally bought the wool, but haven't found time to start. Even less time now I've come across this adorable pair of teachers. I love them..... yes Arne and Carlos ....... I mean you. Thank you :o)
I despaired of ever learning knitting continental, but both of you have completely changed my knitting life, esp. with the Norwegian purl. What a huge relief! I am ready to start knitting, and am following your terrific instructions! Thank you.
Nice and clear. I have always wondered how you attach the heel after the sock is finished. Arne, you are a terrific teacher but together, you're both GREAT. Thank you.
Regia has a nice pdf file with all numbers for different yarn thicknesses, needle suggestions, different feet sizes, few different heels, toe-up and toe-down socks instructions. Easy to find on google. I always use this guide. All you need to do is choose your own pattern to apply on those numbers ❤ and i love your Arne&Carlos Regia sock yarn. Last Christmas I made socks with it for my friends and they were amazed how beautiful the stripes are ❤
You make it so easy for everyone to know the joy of sock knitting. From the beautiful yarn to the many techniques and the helpful tutorials. Everyone should know the true pleasure of wearing hand knit wool socks. They are hugs for your feet and make you feel so good from your toes right on up to the top of your head. Thank you for this revisit to the easiest sock in the world. I really hope many who might have been reluctant in the past to give it another go.
Oh my goodness what a help this was! I first pair of socks I added a stitch at the beginning if each needle😢...not right. Second pair I got the toe right😊, but didnt still understand the scrap thread😢. NOW, To SEE the white thread go in and come out makes all the difference in the world😂 in my understanding. My first 2 pair are wearable😮 , but my next pair will be done correctly thanks to this. THANK YOU SO MUCH❤
I have yet to buy your books, but I absolutely adore your books and I love the cover(s) artistically Speaking.. You two-fellows are absolutely great artesian’s!
I just love ya'll! 😊 Johnny from The Yarnist mentioned you in one of the newsletters. Had to check ya'll out since I had not heard of you before. Sure glad I did! Been watching ever since and plan to continue watching. I have learned several things. Thank you for what ya'll do. Your a great team!!😻
I've started knitting socks this year, I started cuff down and with heel flap and gusset. I thought knitting an afterthought heel would be really challenging but you made it see not complicated at all. Definitely will give it a go!
Excellent tips for the heels! Thank you. They really are the easiest socks in the world. For all those people who think it is difficult, I say just practice doing the toe area with the increases and the heel with some left over yarn. When you are feeling comfortable, then try making a proper sock.
I have become so used to doing cuff down but I totally trust you and it is time to work a sock toe up. Do you remember which Regia collection or colorway your toe up sock is, I just love that pattern and color - but truly I have been deeply enjoying other Arne & Carlos Regia that works up so beautifully, way more than expected from how the colorway looks in the skein. What a magical surprise!
I’m not a sock knitter (I prefer mittens and sweaters), but this tutorial is still fun. I remember learning about afterthought thumbs on the cruise, so this technique looked familiar ❤
I just found you! So glad- 😌 I am a beginner and am learning so much from your channel. Can this pattern be adjusted to use with circular needles? DPN’s are challenging.
This video made me feel better about after thought heel in socks. The one I tried used the Kitchener stitch to close the heel. Not my favorite. I like this one much better. I usually do the heel as I go and use a mix of fish lips kiss and eye of partridge for the heel. It requires counting and keeping track of rows.
Knitting/Quilting has always been the most creative crafts for me,one can literally make a million things with quilting/knitting.I just got into the quilting space and I love it ,I’m giving knitting a break to focus and learn more in quilting. Hoping to learn more things on here, shares ideas and make new craft friends. Leave an emoji ❤ if you would to be a craft friend
Hey, you two are super sympathetic! I have a question: isn't a German short row heel the same but simpler? I'm from Germany and I do that all the time and it's sooo easy
i love gradient yarn for my sock yarn as i don't do matching pairs, they're all uneven but that's the way i prefer them; even striped socks never match :)) have not tried an 'afterthought' heel; have been a follower of WinwickMums blog with her sock tutorials, very easy instructions there too but she does the ordinary heel & gusset have never been able to get a toe up sock started, ends up a mess then i go back to cuff down lol is there an easier way than 'julia's figure 8 cast on? I noticed you had 2 types of toes? love listening to you both, very smooth & calming thanx for sharing
Hi Arne! Hi Carlos! I made your 2023 Christmas Sock last year and plan to do another this year! But I thought you would love to know that I was watching Rox Rocks latest podcast and she showed winning knits at the Minnesota (US) State Fair and someone had knit the 2023 xmas sock also and it had a Blue Ribbon on it! First place! I agree, it is super super cute!!
Hello, about a year or two ago you both where in your garden and started to knit scrap blankets, did you both finish them, if so I must of missed the video, or if not can you show them, I am starting one today, thank you❤
This is SO important, believe me because I learned the hard was by NOT picking up the stitches on needles first -DON'T take the scrap yarn out and then think you will easily pick up the stitches!! 😮
I have been knitting since I was a kid and never knew! I have now started the close toe knit up sock and will be attempting the afterthought heel. So much easier! I also tried to look at your yarn and the site is unavailable to me. Is it because I live in the United States? Sock yarn in stores is so limited.
I know this is a simple sock video education tool but in the future could you show variation such as reinforced heel! Either by making a stronger yard ticker ply or perhaps the actual stitch pattern itself Lens itself to a stronger , thicker heel. Just thinking out loud I actually work out my socks quite heavily by doing yardwork and physical labor and also I like the feeling of the heel Being stronger
Arne -- clip that scrap yard a couple of times while you're pulling it out so you won't have to pull the entire length through each stitch! (Birds will appreciate your shorter scraps for building their nests.)
@@bgummeson I didn't know that and I appreciate your pointing it out. I'm curious to know why and also wondering if tufts of sheep's wool (left from picking over a fleece for spinning) are problematic.
@@nancylindsay4255 I haven’t seen anything about unspun wool. I searched ‘materials to support nesting birds’ and got some results. YT doesn’t like links in comments, for some good reasons, but I have faith in you being able to find the information. 🙂
@nancylindsay4255 yarn is treated with chemicals for fire retardance, color, acrylic or other synthetic materials are added. If one is knitting with pure, untreated lambs wool, giving the tiny yarn bits to wildlife may be OK. Anything else may be dangerous. Also, some yarn strands that are too long may tangle a bird wing or legs, etc and cause a problem. Tiny snips of pure wool yarn fluff should not cause any problem. 🎉

Then you have been with us for a long time! Thank you for your support.
Just in time for me to watch a few times and follow in knitting my first socks this winter! I've been hesitating for so long!

I love knitting socks, find it so therapeutic, the Regia yarn is gorgeous, knits beautifully and the socks made with it feel so nice on😊

Excellent addition to the original video, perfectly complementary.
