  • Lisa Gade reviews the Huawei Matebook 13, the smaller companion to the MateBook X Pro. The MateBook 13 competes with the 2018 MacBook Air, Dell XPS 13 and other very slim and light premium 13” Ultrabooks. It has an aluminum casing, a high resolution 3:2 aspect ratio IPS touch screen and it runs Windows 10 on Intel late 8th gen Whiskey Lake Core i5 and i7 CPUs. It has an M.2 NVMe SSD, backlit keyboard, fingerprint scanner and NVIDIA MX150 dedicated graphics on the Core i7 model. Pricing starts at $999.

Hi there, hoping you see this as I would value your opinion. Had finally decided to go with the Matebook 13 over the Pro x after weeks of almost delerium in trying to choose a new and much needed laptop. Now just as I am about to purchase, having found a reasonable deal, I have hit a bump. I have discovered that none of the MateBooks sold in Europe where I am based, have the Nvidia graphics card. Instead they have an Intel UHD 620 integrated chip. As my main use will be for photo editing, albeit not excessively so (v keen amateur), coupled with the fact that its working on only 8GB Ram, I'm wondering if this should be a deal breaker. I have sourced the X Pro 16GB 512 Ram for a few 100 more, so I'm wondering if this would be a better option? I would really appreciate your insight. Thank you.

8 GB coupled with an NVMe SSD to which you can "extend" some working memory files (at slower speed than RAM obviously, but nevertheless) is enough for most users. I had been using a 8 GB laptop with an i5-7200U processor for working in a lab and doing all my research. I've had dozens of Chrome tabs, multiple Excel sheets (some of them with more than 100k entries), Word, Powerpoint and Spotify open and scattered over multiple desktops and it worked just fine. Sure, there was some minor delay from time to time, especially in Chrome where pages had to reload, but seriously...my usage was way above average.

where you able to test connecting this to a 4k display and get 60hz refresh rate? I've read somewhere the USB C ports of this laptop are only 5Gbps (from whay I've learned, it needs up to 10Gbps transfer rate to be able to do 60hz on 4k). Can someone confirm is this was able to do 60hz on an external 4k display?

Hey Lisa! Again a great video and nice shirt! I’m looking to switch from a Surface 3 (not the Pro) to a traditional clamshell ultrabook, and have set eyes on three recently introduced Huawei products: the 13, 14 and the X Pro. Could you do a video on the 14 after it opens up for sale? I think that it might be “the laptop” that most students may be looking at: good enough resolution, enough ports (most of us don’t need eCPUs and others, which makes the thunder port option totally unnecessary), long battery life(main reason for why I asked for a review, seems like it’s gonna be good but that is still to be tested and I always come to your videos for reference and advice), and just enough power for running a few programs when you need to. Thank you! Love your videos. Keep it up!

I've had the Surface Laptop 2 for a month before I returned it. The display of the Matebook X Pro is so much sharper and brighter it's almost embarrassing. Furthermore you can limit the battery charge to 90% and swap the battery for a new one once it is worn, both impossible to do on the clued Surface Laptop casing.

Want to know how the 25w GPU compares with the blade.
I settled on the blade stealth over the pro x due to the latter only using the lower TDP GPU. this apaprently uses the 25w, so huawei might be back in the running.
Obviously it wont be a gaming powerhouse, but I want an ultrabook for work with all day battery life that can play some games in a pinch. So that GPU will be a big deciding factor.

@@ReptilianLepton It's odd this doesnt get discussed more. Not even just as a fact, but at least as a question that has to be addressed. I wouldnt buy huawei atm until we know for sure what is going on and I dislike the fact their products are being advertised like here without bringing up the elephant in the room.

@@maxmeier532 why it doesn't get any noise on tech channels is because it's a load of rubbish. There is 0 proof that Huawei has put anything malicious in any of their hardware just USA propaganda machine. We all know the USA has done this as a fact. Proven by Snowden, Wikileaks, NSA hacker leaking tools. Look at Apples latest bug with facetime that allows someone to listen into your phone. It wasn't a bug it was a feature the government forced Apple to put in. Apple products are the most easily hacked these days.

Does anyone here have this computer and if you do, can you tell me wether its quiet or not? I mean when you're just doing schoolwork, surfing the internet, streaming a movie etc? No hard work just everyday things? The laptop I have atm is killing me in terms of the noise it makes even when I'm doing the easiest things...

Why arent there more AMD powered laptops? They have better integrated graphics than intel so you wouldent need a graphics card. The addtional space could have been used for better cooling (tdp up chip! instead of the pesky 15w when they can give us more) plus a bigger battery.

Please review the new Asus UX433 Lisa, it looks like a good alternative to the Dell and Hauwei with a 14 inch screen in a 13.3 inch case.
