I've hired cars recently and the electrickery is awful. Lane assist, proximity braking, everything on a screen. Back in the early 90's the 'Big 4' motorbike companies, after a decade of increasing tech in bikes, all produced ranges of cheaper, retro styled, air cooled, unfaired bikes and they were a huge success. It's starting to sound like there could be a demand for that kind of thing in cars right now.

Not far from the British Leyland plant, (and there were plenty of other car manufacturers as well), I cannot recall a single self combustion event in any of their car parks full of new cars. Luckily, I escaped in the early 80s but spent plenty of times back there and would have heard from friends in the dwindling car industry there.

    • @chrismaguire3667
      @chrismaguire3667 16 днів тому

Oh, the UK isn't "lawless", it just that the laws we are labouring under (see what I did?) are so far removed from the original intent they were passed for, that they are twisted out of shape and can, and are, applied to anything that 'offends' anyone who can, and decide to, be offended.
      Including the Police.
Also, people pick and choose what laws they follow and studiously ignore the rest. Governments are notorious at this, and they are meant to be *the exemplars of lawkeeping.*
      As if.
And now, we are facing a chimera of law - British Common Law and Sharia'h law, to keep and mollify a certain geo-political religious group who will set up the 'sharia'h compliant zones', as they have tried before, and the Good Lord help anyone living in such an area who don't adhere to their 'religion', of which Starmer will support! And the British Police will not stop, never mind the local Council (unless they are full of Other Religion councillors).
What has this got to do with exploding EVs, one might ask? Just this - this Govt wants us to buy and use them, but not properly protect those who do, who are starry-eyed because they "are saving the planet" by driving one (their choice). It may come to it where the NetZero project becomes law, where driving an ICE car becomes illegal and we become criminals for simply having one on our driveways, in garages or parked on the road outside one's house.
*Skewed laws -* WEF-inspired, money-making, social-controlling, 15-minute distancing, owning nothing (except for the Elites) and 'being happy'... You know the rest.

Almost certain bankruptcy within 24 months should prevent anyone from buying a Rivian. Rivian's 2Q24 loss was $1.5 bill. Rivian is now drowning in debt and has over one billion shares outstanding. Until Rivian addresses its impending bankruptcy issue, it's too risky to spend $100k on a Rivian

What gets me is that all these people that are fascinated with 'statistics' seem to ignore one main statistical factor, the ratio of EVs to ICE vehicles currently on the road. When this 'statistic' is added to the mix then it becomes obvious that there is a larger percentage of spontaneous immolation in EVs than ICE vehicles.

I love these statistics that people constantly quote, if you know anything about statistics you know they are the best way to push propaganda. The only car fire i've ever seen was a mercedes that someone set on fire and was put out less than an hour later, most likely an insurance job because car tires were heard screeching away from it shortly before it was discovered.
If all the bad neighbourhoods in the world had EV in them then you would see those 'statistics' rise exponentially, most EV are still prohibitively expensive and owned by posh toffs who live in good neighbourhoods.

"EVs less likely to catch fire" the last time I made a rough estimation (only cars since 2014, only fires related to drivetrain / fuel storage, relative to total cars registred etc.), EVs were about 11 times more likely to catch fire than ICE cars and that number is only gonna go up as EVs get older/cheaper and people get desperade to keep ones with failing batteries on the road.

They were providing a shuttle service around the Pebble Beach Concourse De Elegance, and I got a ride to one of the car parks and it was a very nice trip. But I would still not park it in my garage at home if I had one.

The R3 looks OK, but I'd suggest shrinking the wheels by a couple of inches. They're too large for the body and compromise the rear door access. VW did something similar with the Polo and its SUV cousin the T-Cross; the 5-door Up felt bigger in the back (and was easier to access) because the T-Cross wheel arches took so much space from the rear passenger bench.

50-60 of about 250 parked EVs, about one sixth of them! Lousy odds if you were a betting person, I would have thought!
EVs waiting for delivery would not have a full charge, prob about 20%, therefore, the explosive energy in the lithium cobalt (poisonous) batteries would be very low compared to a fully charfed vattery.
BTW, it was a Merc in Korea that had been just sitting in an underground garage and jyst self ignited that caused massive destruction of many other cars, and the building.
Ahh net zero, you just have to love it!
