    The Killing of a Sacred Dear was filmed at a neighbor’s house. Their kids hung out with Nicole Kidman’s kids while they were filming. That scene where Colin Farrell threw all the silverware out of a drawer ruined their kitchen floor, but they decided not to fix it so they would always have a story to tell about it.

      That’s so cool!! Any idea or insight into how your neighbors house was selected for filming a movie inside of it? I’m genuinely curious as to how stuff like that gets decided or how it’s even proposed to the homeowners unless they are also in the entertainment industry!

    • @davestr7031
      @davestr7031 2 місяці тому +5

      @ from what I recall most major cities have local companies that will do location scouting based on the outlined requirements. There was a small outdoor scene that was scouted right next to their house and when the director saw those pics he said he liked the house in the background, could he get more pics. It turned out they didn’t like the outside of the house after all, but decided their kitchen and one bedroom were perfect for the movie.

    • @courtneycallen
      @courtneycallen 2 місяці тому +3

      @ thanks for explaining and sharing! What a neat experience for your neighbors; I know not everyone would jump at the chance to have movie scenes filmed in their house/property and some of the logistics might be complicated or less than ideal, but I would still love to be able to have that experience/be adjacent to it just because of how unique and I assume rare it is too have that kind of opportunity presented to someone who is not involved in the entertainment industry at all. Again, thanks for sharing these details; it never would have crossed my mind that they were filming inside a private residence if you had not chimed in. I love learning stuff like this so thank you!

    Great list Darren !!!! I have been a HUGE fan of Citizen X since it first came out on HBO in 1999. Back then when you got cable for the first time, you usually got HBO free for a month, so I recorded Citizen X onto VHS tape and kept it for years afterwards. Eventually I gave it my son, who also loved the movie, and he kept it until the tape finally broke sometime in 2015. The cats was excellent and veteran character actor Jeffrey DeMunn gave an Oscar-quality performance as serial killer Andrei Chekatilov. It was career role for him. Stephen Rea, Donald Sutherland, Max Von Sydow and Joss Ackland all gave excellent performances.

    "Ninja Assassin", just because a movie is rated as mediocre or worse by film critics, it doesn't mean that you won't enjoy watching it. Many times, we have moments wherein we watch a movie NOT FOR ITS SUBSTANCE OR THEME *but simply to be entertained and to momentarily escape from our mundane life.*

    The killing of the sacred deer inspired by the ancient greek story where Agamemnon had to sscrifice his daughter iphigenia after killing artemis' sacred deer to get the wind to blow so the fleet could sail to troy. Hence the overly art-house mode

    The Hitcher was fantastic. Own it on DVD and watch it time to time.
    C Thomas Howell was still an up and coming star. Rutger Hauer has some of his best work. His facial expressions are the icing on the cake. A little outlandish but C T Howell is almost as stressed as Ash from Evil Dead throughout.
    Man Bites Dog was great.

    Killing of a sacred deer was actually amazing in my opinion. At first, the odd cadence of monotone and seemingly robotic style was distracting. I later read that Yorgos intentionally used this. I first watched Saltburn on my daughter's recommendation as I thought it would be too weird for me, but I was surprised to have enjoyed that as well. So of course, in my quest to watch movies in the same vein, I read about "Killing". Yorgos also made Poor Things which I purchased for streaming and have yet to watch. Really looking forward to it.

    Review of Ninja Assassin
    Ninja Assassin (2009) is an electrifying martial arts action film that delivers adrenaline-pumping fight scenes, intense choreography, and a gripping tale of vengeance. Directed by James McTeigue (V for Vendetta) and produced by the Wachowskis, this movie takes the ninja genre to new heights with its stunning visual effects, brutal combat sequences, and a compelling central performance by South Korean superstar Rain.
    Plot Overview
    The story revolves around Raizo (Rain), a highly skilled ninja trained from childhood by the Ozunu Clan. After breaking free from the oppressive and deadly clan, Raizo sets out to dismantle their organization while protecting a Europol agent, Mika (Naomie Harris), who is uncovering their hidden operations. The film blends elements of traditional martial arts storytelling with modern espionage, creating a fresh and exhilarating take on the ninja mythos.
    The Cast
    • Rain (Raizo): Rain’s performance is a standout. Known primarily as a pop icon before this film, Rain trained extensively to embody the physicality and intensity required for the role. His portrayal of Raizo is equal parts stoic and vulnerable, making him a relatable yet formidable protagonist. His fight scenes, choreographed by martial arts legend Chad Stahelski, are mesmerizing and brutal.
    • Naomie Harris (Mika): Harris brings depth and urgency to her role as the Europol agent caught in a dangerous conspiracy. Her chemistry with Rain provides emotional grounding in a film dominated by action.
    • Sho Kosugi (Lord Ozunu): Sho Kosugi, a veteran of classic ninja films, lends gravitas to the movie as the menacing leader of the Ozunu Clan. His presence connects the modern action with the golden age of ninja cinema.
    • Rick Yune (Takeshi): Rick Yune is memorable as one of Raizo’s adversaries, embodying the cold and ruthless demeanor of a clan enforcer.
    Why It’s Awesome
    Ninja Assassin excels in its action sequences, which are intense, bloody, and meticulously choreographed. The use of CGI-enhanced weapons, particularly the iconic kusarigama (chain and sickle), adds a unique visual flair to the fights. The film doesn’t shy away from violence, making every battle high-stakes and visceral. The cinematography and shadow-heavy aesthetic evoke the stealth and mystique of traditional ninja lore while injecting it with a modern edge.
    Criticism
    Some critics noted that the plot is relatively straightforward and serves primarily as a vehicle for the action. However, for fans of martial arts and action films, this simplicity is more of a feature than a flaw, as it allows the focus to remain on the stunning combat sequences.
    Final Thoughts
    Ninja Assassin is a thrilling ride for anyone who loves martial arts films or high-octane action. Rain’s commitment to the role, combined with James McTeigue’s direction and the Wachowskis’ production expertise, makes this film a standout in the genre. It’s a must-watch for fans of relentless, stylish action and ninja lore.

    Hate to admit but I liked Machete, it was just crazy fun also, Attack the Block was actually quite good, I was pleasantly surprised, original, fresh, funny but gorey as well. Hitcher is classic and for the time it was graphic
